TIP I buy the chunky embossing powder to save money, I put it through an electric spice grinder to make it finer and it makes about 4-5 bottles for WAY less than you'd pay to buy 4-5 bottles.
just make sure you dont use the grinder for food after use with the embossing powder, I bought one for like 20.00 just for this purpose.@@marypolancodesigns
@@marypolancodesigns I seriously love all of your videos! So I have a question that maybe you could help me with… Often times when I see people make flowers out of DIECUTS, they have something that looks like sand sprinkled on the flowers. I’ve tried this with craft sand, but it doesn’t produce the same effect. Any idea how card makers get their flowers to look realistic enough that they have specs of sand on them?
That foam edger that has the hair on it that you just used to clean your stamp, is perfect for gessoing canvases especially if you're doing several of them at a time.
I remember when Suze Weinberg first brought out UTEE (Ultra thick embossing enamel). Other techniques with those chunky EPs include making a raised aperture with multiple layers of cardstock glued onto background and melting the EP in center like enameled jewelry or stained glass. Also using an inked stamp to make an impression on the warm melted EP (like a wax seal) or embedding glitter or small ephemera in the EP. Will have to pull out my stash and play again!
One way that I like to do the bokeh effect is ink my background & with my circle template I made on my Scan and Cut, is to add the circles (Bokeh) with very light colours as in white, very pale greys, yellow, pinks, blues etc. A tip is when adding the Bokeh start with a very light blend, as you can add a little more if you want it darker. As always it's a case of playing with it and finding how dark or light & what colours you want your Bokeh effect to be. I've done it with circles, stars & hearts. P. S: Whenever I make templates or stencils with my Scan N Cut, I just run a sheet of laminating film through the laminator without any paper in it. It's never failed me & saves a lot of money!.
Happy morning coffee! I would do detail on the little village (never do anything easy for me) 🤣🙃. Usually, when I have done Brokeh I use circle stencils & circle cut outs. Use just the white pigment with blending brushes "faintly" around edges on an already ink-blended background. Comes out looking like bubbles when highlights are put on with a white paint pen. That's just me though :) Thanks for the great hacks!!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful techniques and also for giving other tips along the way. Always a pleasure to watch. Slim line card: keep it simple! 😊
Love the hop with so many creative people. I have some extra thick embossing powder, I guess I better take a look and get to use it. Thanx for all the fun ideas.
Can you do a video about how you choose what to do and process. Penny black did one about crafty decision fatigue when overwhelmed and lost about what to do. I would like many makers design process planning and when not feeling creati😢x
I'm gosh Mary, awesome video! I don't have chunky embossing powder but I do have that HA stamp! BTW, the 58 craft hacks were phenomenal!!!! Couldn't believe these tips...thank you so much!
Thank you for refreshing our memories, Mary! I have the same large bottle of thick embossing powder and I haven’t used it in ages, I’m going to take it out.
Great cards! Loved the silhouette scene. Definitely need to get my heavy embossing powder out. Best tip of putting packing tape on stamps. I can never get them back on straight or I misplace them. Thanks for sharing
Hey Mary, love those glasses on you! (Yeah, we are getting THAT age 🙄) But they actually make you look like a young girl (good thing you are already back at uni!) Kind regards, from Germany, Nicola
Love them all! I haven’t done a bokeh in a long time, so it’s time! All wonderful ideas and tips and tricks. Wish I could print the spreadsheet, but I do not have Microsoft Word apps on my Mac. Mac has their own apps that come free on Mac devices, and they work great, except that I am unable to print your tips. I guess I might have to actually pick up a pen and take notes! Back to college days! TFS!
You can use a pencil eraser to stamp even smaller circles for your bokeh effect. I’m going to use the tape trick-it drives me crazy when I can’t find the carrier sheet in my mess. On a related note I put a sticker on the cover sheet of the sticky mat I keep in my Misti so I can find it.
I love to make a cracked finish by using the thick embossing powder and then bending the image a little. You can somewhat control the cracks by the number and amount of bend used. Don’t like it ? Reheat and it’s back to glossy smooth.
I use a cd case with a paint edger pad adhered in both sides. When I stamp I spritz one with water to clean the stamps and then go over the dryside with the stamp to dry it ....works great. Not my idea. A tip I picked up on youtube ages ago.
Mary, I forget if you're the one I told about taping the stamp backer sheet to the front one, but I've been doing that for a long time. I have begun to add a piece of packing tape running the other direction over each end of the hinge piece, as I've found that the first piece that runs parallel to the top of the stamp sheet can split if I get a bit, erm, aggressive in pulling the backer sheet away from my stamps. Kind of like opening a box that's been taped - the tape will split parallel to its long edge, but not tear going across the short way. Does that even make any sense? :) Also, if the stamp set is small enough - 4x6" or smaller - I can just put 2 small pieces of tape with the uncut edge perpendicular to the top of the sheet, 1 on each side, & it covers just fine without having to run another piece long-ways. Seriously, I feel like I'm making no sense at all, but it's hard to put into words what I know exactly how to do. LOL There are a few companies - I know Lawn Fawn is one - that do pre-tape their stamp backers to the front sheet. Bless them for saving us time & hassle! At any rate, thank you for showing these techniques. I don't think I ever thought about the silhouette one. It's funny that you showed the one with the ultra-thick embossing powder, though. I actually had a challenge at Splitcoaststampers.com for their Dare to Get Dirty event this last summer, making faux glass tiles with patterned paper, frames made with layers of cardstock to hold the powder over the paper (no embossing ink used), & the ultra thick powder. The samples I made to illustrate the technique (minus one that I messed up) actually came out really well, if I do say so myself! I actually heated mine from underneath to keep the granules from blowing away before they melted enough to stick. I didn't make that technique up, though. I think I'd seen Natasha Foote do it first, though I'm not sure if she's the first one ever to do it. Anyway, it was fun! Well, I've babbled on long enough. Hope y'all are doing well & enjoying the Fall weather. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)
Thanks for the reminders. Is the chuncky embossing powder the same as UTE? Also, I have never seen the Bokeh Effect ever done the way you did it, very interesting.
Hop along with us for a total of 15 forgotten techniques we share!!

Try opening the link and saving the doc first (download it). Not sure if that's helpful.

could you please let me know where you purchased your round corner punch which i have seen you use in your demonstrations. thank you
Hi there! I think this is the one you are referncing. amzn.to/3MpIjIm
On a slimline card, I would use the blue and purple to color only parts of the village below, like the door, a roof, but not color the whole thing...
Fantastic idea! Thank you!

It probably was you who told me! YAY! Thank you thank you. That was the most popular hack. YEEEEE
What type of heat tool are you using 😊
This kind amzn.to/498sbES
Hi. Mary! What is the silicone tong link? I didn't see it in the supply list. Thank you!
I got it from the dollar tree I'm sorry I don't have a link
I love to use chunky to enamel a whole flower or stamp as you did w globe but each one has cracked. How can I prevent the cracking?
I'm not actually sure. Could you do thinner layers and build it up that way? I'd have to experiment.
❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the reminders. Is the chuncky embossing powder the same as UTE? Also, I have never seen the Bokeh Effect ever done the way you did it, very interesting.
Hi - yes it's the same.
Yes, it is the same and thank yoU!
Does the embossing ink dauber have an odour or just same as embossing pad?
No odor at all that I noticed
Thanks
I woud color in the houses
Beautiful I most likely will
I might just colour the odd roof, and the trees. Or all of the roofs. Just a thought.
Love it that's a great idea
Thanks!
You bet!
