Some great ideas here, Mary…TYFS! The last time I put a card front on upside down, I just stamped my little “Oops” stamp on the back of the card, finished the inside, and sent it out. People actually get a kick out of it!!! 💕🌸💕
An even easier way to straighten your Magic (aka cutting) mat and clean it at the same time is to immerse it in boiling water and leave it to soak Mary. This is made easier for us here in the UK because we have electric kettles. However immersed in boiling water your mat effortlessly straightens out in seconds and the paper debris starts floating off it. Judicious use of a washing up brush helps clear the paper debris away even faster! Love the cards you made - soooooo pretty! 💖x
@@mpbailey18 Because you can "un-warp" them as opposed to the acrylic plates (or at least not as much) Also they last longer as far as cuts going into from the dies.
@@mpbailey18 and @marypolancodesigns Many thanks for answering that question for me Mary - appreciated! ❤😘x Magic mats are also much less expensive than acrylic plates and being self healing (which is why they are called "magic") they suffer far less cutting and score mark damage.
Love these hacks!!!! Mary I use an iron to straighten out my magic mat. I put it between two towels. Also, I bought a toner sheet, I cut my dies from it & then I foil them with my laminator.
Loved this video - I really like Lou's work too. But you always make me giggle out loud. Always love how REAL of a person you are too. So much FUN watching and learning from you. Thanks again for all you do darlin. Great hacks.
To keep my magic mat from warping, I roll it halfway through my cutting machine, in between the base plate and top plate, and leave it there in between uses. The little bit of warping I get from using it each time gets straightened out this way. I have had a MUCH easier time with my plates since I started doing this. I still turn the magic mat around, and turn it over while in use, to try to wear it out as evenly as possible.
When I've put my panel on upside down. I've just ripped the upside front at the fold then distressed the edges and glued to another card. Making sure I glued it down the right way. Thank you for the great hacks! I'm eager to try them!
Mary, I watched the one from Lou about die cutting and was perfect!! I have glued my panel the wrong way several times and I also cut it and glue it to another one!! Love hack videos!!
Lynn Le Bel Love the hacks Mary!! Great tips. I like the sticky paper on vellum and then using the glitter. Glitter gives cards an extra WOW factor!! Thank you!!
Great hacks Mary. Couple hacks I use-which of course I learned from another RUclipsr (just don't know which one). Put your Magic Mat (and your clear plates too) in a baking pan and over with very hot water. I place a pot filled with water to weigh down the mat and plates. The will be very flat AND and the little bits of paper float away, well may take a little scraping. For intricate dies, place a piece of a plastic grocery bag between the die and the paper. None of the pieces will stick in the die. Just remember to remove the plastic off you paper die cut-sometimes you can barely tell it's there, especially with white cardstock.
To flatten my magic mat, I use a damp towel and press on it with an iron. Afterwards, I use the towel to wipe away the little pieces of paper that were pressed into the mat. ❤
Have flipped dies for years. That and a precsion base plate and self healing mats as needed have solved any issues I had. Can run panel that is glittered thru die cut machine as well to press in well.
Thanks much for all those tips. For the intricate die cutting you might want to try the Sizzix Chrome Precision Base Plate. Perhaps also try using the release sheet from the double-sided tape on top of the glitter to make the burnishing easier to accomplish without having the touch all that glitter.
Thank you Mary and Lou. I love following your channels. I actually used one of your hacks today. I had a tricky die that would not cut properly. Dug out my Magic Mat, turned the die upside down and now it cuts like butter. What a relief. Thank you from your Aussie follower, Myrna

I was so happy to see this collab! You're two of my favorite creators. I used Lou's hack for intricate dies just the other day. It's amazing how much better it worked! For the Magic Mat, I heat it up, like you did, but then I put it under a heavy book for a little while, which helps it flatten even more. Loved seeing your takes on Lou's hacks and all of your extra helpful tips. Tyfs!
That’s a great Intricate die trick. I used a Precision Base Plate, Fabric Softner Sheet, cardstock and the die face down onto my fabric sheet and Precision Base Plate. It cut out and my mat was bent but Yay😅😂😊I got it!
I love that faux foiling hack from Lou. I used it on my Christmas cards last year. I had hot foiled a large ornament on the card front but I wanted some tiny icons in different colors in various colors also on the front. Instead of risking over foiling, I used her hack and it worked out perfectly. Love all your cards today. Off to check out Lou's version.
I found that if I use Versa Mark glue pad for stamping, put foil over top of it and run it through my die cut machine. The foil sticks just like it would if you use a foiling machine. No extra tools needed.
With the ‘fake foiling’ technique, have you tried laying a piece of grease proof paper over the top to prevent the marks from the cutting plate showing? I don’t know of that would help, but it might. I love the idea and I’ll give it a try. Thanks Mary. I love Lou Collins too.
