The best filmed battle i have ever seen. The feeling of opression, chaos, fear, madness that this chapter delivers is something unseen. Those close shots that put you inside the batle were sick. One of the best chapters in GOT. Kudos to the director.
This battle scene was simply amazing. Honestly, I can't remember if I've ever seen anything like this where I actually have a sense of direction and scale instead of it just being a blur. I dont know you guys, but I felt like being on the battlefield...I felt the anguish of Jon... I felt the suffocation of being in the middle of all those bodies... by far the best episode filmed in GOT, and honestly the best middle age like battle I see in tv or movie.... awesome.
No I really don't think that they're harmed :D It's a long way and it takes many many years to make them fearless like that and learn them those stunts.. time and patience are the most important things when you're working with horses, no matter if it's dressage, jumping, eventing or doing stunts/training them for being a film horse :)
I think the hardest thing is stripping horses of their absurd fear of everything new. I know myself, I grew up with horses. all it takes is a towel on the fence that had never been there before or a car in the middle of a forest where it never was even though they walk around cars on the daily basis, for horses to start freaking out and trying to get as far away from the new object that is not supposed to be there as possible :D horses are funny creatures :D
I know I'm not the only one who has said that I can't believe this is a tv show. The CGI in this last episode is better than most movies. This better win every award out there.
this entire battle scene was actually deeply disturbing. and that is exactly why this show is so amazing. they could have gone with the lord of the rings fantacy battle where everything is clean and grand but what thus battle managed was to create a sence of relism that depics war in a very relistic light. war is hell and seeing bodies piled up and this sence of clostrifobia is what real hisoric battles report and its spectacula to see
Alyssia Spaan they are recreating them as historically as possible, when you have History channel backing the show, the best be sure to make it right, it would be a shame not to, lol
u didnt see a shiled war until now... Besides, History channel makes sure their battle scenes are true to their era. and then there were the british and french
Jon Snow was a magnificent beast in this episode, haha! I loved how they showed him fighting tooth and nail alongside his men while Ramsay just watched from afar like a coward.
Not like a coward. He is nothing but a coward - remember how he fought when Theon's sister tried to save her brother? The leader has to manage the battle - not to run around with a sword. What happens when there is no leader left? Especially if this leader is the only noble from his bloodline (not in this case). Once he's killed, all battles are for nothing. That how it happened in Middle Ages. Soldiers just go home - no reason to fight. Ramsay was way, way smarter as a military leader. Just karma wasn't great.
+MrSlavaoat I agree. How are you supposed to direct your men when you yourself are fighting? Jon made a huge mistake by charging, and would have gotten his entire army killed if it wasn't for the intervention of the Vale.
The moment he charged I was like: "nooooo, you idiot" Yeah, fighting tooth and nail among your men is not the task of a commander. Caesar, Napoleon, Hannibal they weren't good because they fought next to their men, in fact, they didn't. They were good because of command. Although in desperate times they were needed on the front lines for morale or to prevent routing.
YellingCompetitions On occasion, not because it was heroic, but because it served a specific purpose, whether for morale or something else. Some Roman consuls fought alongside their men because it was fun or something, the moment they died, because they put themselves in mortal danger, the head of the snake was cut off and the army crumbled due to lack of leadership. Generally it was far better to be in a safe position and command than fighting at the front line and dying.
Nah Hardhome is still the best episode so far in the series. From a production stand-point I think it was brilliant, but the story of it was a little flat for me. I liked it better then Blackwater though, that's for sure
+Lukas Meggs "story flat" it's a battle between two armies. how much story can there be? you want complex politics and relationships? you don't force a storyline where it doesn't make sense. this arc in the north was only about battles and armies and killing. a simple "story" makes most sense. Hardhome also didn't have much of a story. Jon negotiates with wildling elders. some of the wildlings accept, some not. too late, undead party is here. massacre. nothing complex, but a godly episode because it delivered on what it was meant to: action and death.
chuhrros It was the way the soldiers of the Vale showing up at the end of the battle that just fell flat for me. It was so telegraphed that it sucked out some of the tension for me.
Years of being emotionally invested in the characters also help a lot, TV can be way better than movies in this aspect but now when you add to it this level of production value it just becomes something above anything else.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the video title is wrong. "The Battle of Winterfell". This is "The battle of the bastards". The battle of Winterfell is where the Boltons defeated Stannis.
Actually, no dog would ever do such a thing. They didn't eat each other, but sure - why not attacking and eating the undisputed alpha beast (who is Ramsey)... Whoever wrote this episode, knows nothing about dogs and wolves...
I've never seen such a terrifying and realistic battle not in a film and not in a series either. This episode just flashed me and showed me how brilliant GoT can be.
except little script, they are going the Revenant way, and hour and half of grunting...who knew that was the key for Leo, they hate his voice or something
I think every person who is watching this show NEEDS to watch these "behind the scenes" clips because it really shows how much effort and work there is behind it all. People are so quick to whine about a character not getting the perfect death or a scene being taken out, but it's completely understandable when you realize the lengths these people go to portray an event like this one.
The image that stands out the most to me is the giant screaming on his knees in the courtyard of Winterfell as the Wildlings rush in. Did you ever in a million years think you'd see that when you watched the pilot of Game of Thrones? :)
That scene doesn't really make it's impact before you realize that Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun is the last giant of Westeros. A mighty race that ended returning Winterfell to the Starks.
+Tom Ochova ramsay said the faster you get to your brother...faster means a straight line.distance vs displacement.but yeah, with a hundred arrows being shot at you,"fuck the brother" should have been the thought. kids do mistakes
Much more authentic than most movie battles. I liked how this battle portrayed a disciplined, trained, and well led army destroying an armed mob. The shield wall was like a Greek phalanx. Only the arrival of friendly cavalry at the last moment saved the day for Jon Snow so I wonder why Ramsey, (don't get me wrong, he was evil, brutish and sadistic but a competent battle commander) didn't have scouts afield to reconnoiter.
Serpentine tactic was not yet invented at that time period. LOL ikr add that wun wun idiot ho suddenly stopped using weapons after the battle at the wall.
Well, I think Jon feels he shouldn't be alive, he should've stayed dead. He defends himself for the sake of winning, but I don't think he has any sense of self preservation anymore.
it's already happening. a lot big Hollywood films can't make this. they're stick doing pg 13 to get lowest common denominators and make profits. Thrones is known for R rated violence with fantastic storylines. Far more than can be done in a single film
this is the golden age of television. Cinematic expertise comes from things like Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones now, instead of the diluted movie industry
But honestly, who the fuck will cry for the film industry? They made their beds, and they made them poorly. Only thing that saddens me, is that people still pay for the dreck and drivel that is superhero movies. It's completely absurd that all of Hollywood has been overtaken by a single genre of films, dictated by two or three different companies, and that people for almost 10 years have swallowed that bullshit raw.
While I agree Hollywood consists of more superhero stuff than may be necessary--I personally LOVE it. However, I would really love to see a lot more good drama come out of Hollywood. Thankfully, TV is taking care of it for the most part, though.
***** When you consider the fact these superhero "movies" are in fact large budget TV series projected in theaters, it makes all the more obvious that stand alone 2-hour films are a dying art. It's neither good or bad. It just is.
After the disappointing and pointless conclusion of Arya's story in Braavos and Blackfish's anti-climatic offscreen death, this episode was much needed. Very satisfying on both sides of the pond. Seeing the dragons in action burning boats and the masters being finally dealt with and presumably the Sons of the Harpy was awesome. The Battle of Winterfell made the previously battles other than Hardhome seem like nearly bloodless affairs. This was a raw brutal battle of savage strokes and merciless beatings. When Ramsey's army surrounded Jon's it made me think of the end of Boudica when her army was pinned in by their baggage train and the disciplined Romans just slaughtered them in the press. This episode and the one with Hodor have been my favorite this season while 8 is best forgotten.
The Calvary charge and battle was the best battle scene I've ever seen in film. Horses slamming into eachother men flying around, chaos everywhere. If there was something to live up to this is it.
Well said. I think this season has been very good overall, but episodes 6-8 really meandered and as you said, the Arya conclusion was terrible. But episodes 1-5 and now episode 9 were excellent IMO
Seeing D&D is almost like seeing an ex you had a horrible breakup with. That weird feeling of thinking, "I used to love the shit out of this person and now the very sight of them makes me want to rip their skin off."
7:47 Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, A sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor! Anyone?
That was the second thing I thought of, the first was the Silmarillion, when the Gondolin's army arrives, although with a different ending, here the good guys won.
In TV, yes is the best, but it doesn't come close to the Minas Tirith/Pelennor Fields battle... yet overal I think it's second on the list or at the very least 3rd.
He saw what happened to Shaggydog and noped the fuck out of there. In all seriousness though, who knows. Maybe budget constraints? He's been pretty sparse the whole season, with the exception of course of the first two episodes.
Probably back at camp. Why would Ghost be in the fight? A dire wolf would get killed instantly by all of those arrows. A battle of that size is no place for Ghost.
Well Jon did use a Mormont shield against Ramsay's arrows in the end. That means that at least one of those 62 men made it all the way through the battle and into Winterfell. I guess their reputation holds true.
When Sansa sent a raven to Petyr Baelish asking for reinforcement, did you know he wrote back? This is what he wrote: "Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east." True story I swear. 😆
This episode completely makes up from last week's about 10 times over. Having that fear that they were going to lose the battle then Knights Of The Vale come and destroy bitch ass Ramsey with one attack. Now the real battle is on its way but they're preparing. RIP Rickon Stark and Wun Wun.
I dont get why you talk about Fear? There was nothing about fear, quite literally only indifference about Jon, for all I care they could have run him over, would have saved thousands of his allies.
Same here, loved the psychopathic little bastard. I mean sure he was a horrible person but he made every scene he was in and all of his segments were a joy to watch. Great character portrayed by an amazing actor.
I love Jon and Sansa’s unspoken interaction when he gives her Ramsey Bolton’s kill. A sort of apology for not thinking she could be a leader in battle and also a sort of fulfillment for everything Ramsey did to her
4:25 this was the best thing I have ever seen! So fucking cool. This whole start of the fight where they filmed Jon Snow for so long without cuts. Best directing and choreography in a war scene I have ever seen, period! Better then all movies as well. Just simply perfect!
I was weirdly thinking he was gonna do something really brutal -- like put the shield in his mouth and stamp on it, breaking his head in two...or something...
That episode was amazingly shocking. If that makes any sense. Great work, Game of Thrones. This series will live on for eternity. The battle felt so real, had to think about what people in real life must feel standing in such a battlefield. During the World Wars or now in Syria, for example. Really brought tears to my eyes. But I still feel sad for the horses.
i know what you're saying, but the WWs and Syria are different types of war. what was shown is what warfare was like in the dark to middle ages, including the crusades.
SVanTha You're right, wars are different from the ones in middle age. But to think about the fact that there were hundreds of those wars in middle age. And still wars today with thousandsof people die ... it's awesome to watch those fights in TV. In real lie not so much fun.
-SVanTha Not strictly true mate, WW1 had bayonette charges, melee combat in the trenches and heck even horse frontal charges by really idealistic and idiotic commanders early on. ;) And this scene where Jon and his army gets surrounded is very much based on Antiquity. A mix between classical Greek Hoplites, Macedonian Phalangites and Roman Legionaries.
SVanTha "Different types of war". And no, in the medieval ages no one used big scutum shields as depicted in that battle, the closest thing would be pavise shields used and planted by Italian crossbow men as cover. And you were talking about the "type of war", you're contradicting yourself making it about equipment now. Or are you just interesting in discussing metallurgy of antiquity vs middle ages? Don't give out false information mate.
The episode was predictable but pretty amazing! vale coming in JUST IN TIME, but still too late, hurts me deeply xD P.S. Can't wait for some Queen on Queen action :3
more than predictable it was forshadow many times in fact the chapter was great because in spite of it it made us(at least for me) feel the tension and fear for jon & co lives
You would be glad to know that Sansa was written out of the line of succession by Robb (the last King in the North) who also named Jon his heir. Jon Stark for the win.
Sansa needed to make it seem like the Stark forces were outnumbered. If Ramsey had seen that they had the Vale army then he would have holed up in Winterfell for a siege that the Starks weren't prepared for.
Had not considered that angle yet, would make her a brilliant strategist In a way. On the other hand, she could have told Jon, and decided to keep the forces back anyway. Would have had similar results, but they could have charged earlier.
she was closer to him then to jon. but your right she already knew he was dead and resovled that as soon as she got the letter. and she already went through the greving process the first time when she thaught theon killed him
She had come to terms with him being dead already. She knew his fate ever since she knew Bolton had him. Always easier to handle a death when you know it's coming ahead of time. Cancer vs car crash kinda thing.
My Prediction. The Both Side Stark and Bolton and other houses that support lose many mens. Littlefinger and the Knights of vale are massive(just look at them) Littlefinger plans is gonna betray the north and be the warden of north again. his master plan ,my prediction.
This is true he has played both sides, knight of the vale has been reserved for a long time and have around 18000 troops so they are pretty powerful and could possibly take on kings landing.
Nah he would never go into a war with them. We have seen in the show he actually has affection for Sansa. If he was to do anything, it would be something more sinister and cunning like marrying Sansa to become the warden of the north.
Even though the episode was quite predictable, the execution and cinematography was fantastic.Props to the director, who by the way also directed Hardhome.
she almosted quoted Cersei when she's talking to Jon. Cersei has almost the same conversation with her dad Tywin. "Did it ever occur to you that I am the one that deserves your confidence and your trust? Not your sons, not Jaime or Tyrion, but me? Years and years of lectures on family and legacy…Did it ever occur to you that your daughter might be the only one listening to them, living by them?"
I love how Iwan (Ramsey) says "it was nice to get to do a final scene with Sophie. Especially after last season..." Just the way his voice trails off and he stares into space and probably thinks "oh yeah, I did some bad shit" .
Rickon was never going to survive even if Jon knew of the approaching reinforcements. He still would have ran into the trap at seeing Rickon's death so close to his hands.
Sansa's direworlf died a long time a go, way back in season 1. And Jon wouldn't get his one eat Ramsey alive. It was poetic that Ramsey's hounds killed it.
I may not agree with how they did the last 2 seasons, bit rushed, but you cant deny the amount of work and effort the SFX team has put into this show is amazing all throughout the 8 seasons.
Fuck theon, he deserved being tortured and castrated. He betrayed the starks, burned 2 childs, and tried to fuck his sister. Total asshole. Not as big as Ramsey but still.
If you're watching this video some day, you have to know that this is the best fight ever in all time, idea & filming & VGX just amazing. This fight won an Emmy Award.
We've scene a few relatively brutal battles in GoT before, but this one really showed the horrors that can occur - the pile of bodies, the gratuitous violence, this battle was utterly perfect.
Okay this director Miguel Sapochnik needs to direct every episode of Game of thrones from now on, this episode was fucking epic from start to finish props to the whole team who worked on this episode. It will definitely win the emmy for Best direction!
As much as we hate Ramsey, could we all just give him an applause for his brilliant character of negativity! Bravo..!!
that battle plan was legit if the freaking vale hadn't showed up.
he was awesome. just wish they kept him alive till next episode and introduce him to ghost
meh, Joffery was better
the battle plan also involved in killing as many karstarks and Umbers before the Bolton Picket Line with arrows lol
He didnt fucking care about his allies lol
He was such a "Joker", it was unreal, hopefully he does get that role one day
That plan was damn good. Only stupidity was shooting at your own soldiers. That could've been avoided.
No honorable battle. No one on one. No brave men of songs. No heroics.
Just pure chaos and what a real melee would be like. Loved it.
Exactly, this what separates something like LOTR from GOT, both are great, but very different
Well maybe, but this battle scene is extremely similar to the Helms Deep battle Scene in LOTR just less gory.
absolutely just showing us how brutal and dirty it is on the ground, its fucking amazing they really outdid themselves this time.
+Andrew McCaughey I disagree, Helms Deep was brutal but this was beyond that, this showed the true horrors of close quarter combat, bodies piling up, men being trampled, buried alive, crying out in pain, no honor, no heroics,no remorse, just men killing other men.
Julian Webb I agree that this is more realistic but the events of the fight are similar to the Helms Deep fight,
I don't think I've ever seen a battle scene on the level of detail as this one. This has to be somekind of milestone for film in general.
Up there with Saving Private Ryan's D-Day beach landing
Yea SPR wins in my opinion. D-Day actually happened.
It's not a better scene because it's based on an actual war, I'll remind you most of GOT is based on the war of the roses.
SNOW SOS Well in my opinion its better because it actually happened. MY OPINION.
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN??
they considered the safety of the horses in making sure that they did not get injured. These people have my respect.
Kathy Day what were you expecting? the crew sacrificing horses for a damn tv show lol
cher You mean the horses that have been brutally murdered throughout the seasons weren’t actually harmed? INSANE
It's pretty much a "law" that you cant harm animals while making a movie or TV show.
@★ Froggie Animation ★ But HBO is an American company. The American Humane Association will oversee the use of animals. And also it's not logical to harm animals in film making. If you are a big company and you get exposed you're fucked. If you are a small company and you abuse animals your company will get shutdown before it even starts.
a thought I always have when watching movies and shows like this.
Props to everybody who worked on this battle scene.
Downvote this guy :|
Wun wun made me sadder than Rickon
i was a extra on the bolton side it was a glory moment for me and my group to be in our second (my first) episode.
So amazing
Did you get any good screentime?
Hands down to all the people behind GoT. Thank you for all your wonderful work.
I wish it could go on for 10 more seasons
That was hands down the least proper use of the expression "hands down" I've ever read. Bravo
Another 24 eps a season or something like that!!! I agree going to be tough moving forward only 7 and 6 episodes :(
it show that they put a lot of effort and resources into this and they did extremely well
Hands down to you, i totally agree.
It's sad that this has better CGI than most blockbuster movies. The work put into GoT is fucking amazing and beautiful.

What up, Phil?
Agreed
This episode is still better than any movie i have ever seen this year so far.
totally
True
Not as good as the TLOTR's battles tho. IMO.
That doesn't say much about the ep., since not a lot of good movies came out this year so far anyways.
Better than all except Helm's deep imo. Most LOTR battles are fucking silly.
Miguel Sapochnik, you need to direct every episode of Game of Thrones from now on, because this was a f..... masterpiece of an episode!
i think we all agree but he blows the budget of about three episodes in one of his haha
New Zealand Johan Yes, but they can afford it goddamit!;-)
+New Zealand Johan It worth it!
that guy is a genious building up battle scenes
hardhome and then this. hope the next episode is also as good !!
he is directing the finale i believe :)
This episode deserved its Emmys

He had a good career prior to GoT (he's an Olivier award winner) and he'll have one after
He plays Simon Bellamy in misfits amazingly well (a socially awkward anti-hero). Highly recommend it.
Hope he plays The Wason in the future. It would be amazing.
just listen to his soundtrack it's so disturbing but fits his role perfectly
THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS IS THAT THE STARK SIGIL WILL BE BACK ON WINTERFELL IN THE OPENING CREDITS NEXT EPISODE
Melissandre's prophecy came true, in that she was standing atop Winterfell's battlements. Hence, her smug hint at a smile.
+echodigger what was her prophecy? I forget when this was
+ATamedBuffalo when she was with Stannis she said many times that she saw the Bolton's flags burning and herself walking in Winterfell (visions).
+one_piece_ownz
Too bad her visions didn't specifically see the Stark banners rising.

Vikings has better battles , yes , but are you stupid when you talk about tactics ?? Most of the first 2 season battles are shield wall ...
u didnt see a shiled war until now...
Besides, History channel makes sure their battle scenes are true to their era. and then there were the british and french
2 years... 2 FUCKING SEASONS I waited to see the Stark sigil on Winterfell and I hope to see it till the end of the show...
Technically they didn't own Winterfell in season 3....It was a ruin then the Boltons restored it.
Which the Boltons destroyed in the first place. It wasn't the ragtag crew of the Greyjoys with Theon that burned down Winterfell.
no Ramsy used Theon as cover, he massacred most of the people of Winterfell aswell ( old nan and such
2 years how? last time we've seen the stark sigil in winterfell was in season 2 (2012).
The moment he charged I was like: "nooooo, you idiot"
Yeah, fighting tooth and nail among your men is not the task of a commander. Caesar, Napoleon, Hannibal they weren't good because they fought next to their men, in fact, they didn't. They were good because of command.
Although in desperate times they were needed on the front lines for morale or to prevent routing.
+Alexander Salt all 3 of those men fought in the front alongside their soldiers
YellingCompetitions On occasion, not because it was heroic, but because it served a specific purpose, whether for morale or something else.
Some Roman consuls fought alongside their men because it was fun or something, the moment they died, because they put themselves in mortal danger, the head of the snake was cut off and the army crumbled due to lack of leadership.
Generally it was far better to be in a safe position and command than fighting at the front line and dying.
7:42 "that moment where kit..." Kit Harrington is Jon Snow now
Most epic episode yet. My favorite next to 'Hardhome'. The best is yet to come.
R.I.P : Wun Wun 😢
Nah Hardhome is still the best episode so far in the series. From a production stand-point I think it was brilliant, but the story of it was a little flat for me. I liked it better then Blackwater though, that's for sure
+Phil M nooooon im france i dont have see the épisode !!
+Lukas Meggs "story flat"
it's a battle between two armies. how much story can there be? you want complex politics and relationships? you don't force a storyline where it doesn't make sense. this arc in the north was only about battles and armies and killing. a simple "story" makes most sense.
This episode was better than any movie i've seen this year, and i've seen most of the movie that came out this year..
Lol sure
just because you haven't, doesn't mean others didn't, wich i did
+One Piece Fanatics what movie?
Years of being emotionally invested in the characters also help a lot, TV can be way better than movies in this aspect but now when you add to it this level of production value it just becomes something above anything else.
hardcore henry and conjouring 2, easily
The white horse at 3:07 was like "This is my moment SUPER STAR!".
They love to show off. :D
Hahahahahaha I've seen it too. He's too happy or something.
That horse was hyped lol
Lmao 😂
yeah i love that scene and it realy was a funny eyecatcher xD
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the video title is wrong. "The Battle of Winterfell". This is "The battle of the bastards". The battle of Winterfell is where the Boltons defeated Stannis.
Correction. No one cares.
mathewparrett - Only lazy people don’t.
It’s most likely due to RUclips’s monetisation rules. Having ‘Bastards’ in the title would probably get it demonetised.
I was thinking about the same.. But I think battle of winterfell is stil to come on season 8.
Battle of Winterfell is s8 yeah
I have never seen a more epic spectacle on TV ever.
I am glad to see what the future holds.
Ramsay getting eaten by his own dogs is the best.
Irony in a nutshell
Roose Bolton: The longer you have a reputation as a mad dog you will be taken out back and slaughtered like a mad dog.
It was f***king cool
Actually, no dog would ever do such a thing. They didn't eat each other, but sure - why not attacking and eating the undisputed alpha beast (who is Ramsey)... Whoever wrote this episode, knows nothing about dogs and wolves...
I guess the only thing better would be flaying him alive and cutting off his dick while Sansa sits in the background eating a sausage.
That bite to his face was just golden.
This is by far the most epic battle scene in the history of film making. I watched it over.. and over, and over again! EPICNESS OVERLOAD!
♥️💪
And every time it gives me chills
Battle of Helms deep>>>
Same scene movie name the king
@@jefferyepstein6109 ngl this is much better
I've never seen such a terrifying and realistic battle not in a film and not in a series either. This episode just flashed me and showed me how brilliant GoT can be.
"realistic"
THIS EPISODE BETTER WIN THAT FUCKING EMMY, MY GOD THAT WAS AMAZING
YES!
They deserve it!! For. The Emmy!!
fuck emmy shit, should get an oscar, best movie i seen all year.
+Grimnir Reaper This wasn't a movie.
except little script, they are going the Revenant way, and hour and half of grunting...who knew that was the key for Leo, they hate his voice or something
I definitely didn't.
It was so good. I felt so bad for him too. So many emotions
Haha very true! I love how the series is constantly escalating the stakes and scale like that :)
That scene doesn't really make it's impact before you realize that Wun Weg Wun Dar Wun is the last giant of Westeros. A mighty race that ended returning Winterfell to the Starks.
+Stefan Mihajlović I'm pretty sure there are more giants beyond the wall
This battle is better than any i've seen in a movie. I was genuinely astonished.
I think this battle is my new favorite scene from GOT! :D
mine too
+Aries no it wasnt.
+Aries hardhome
no way
i think dorn was the best
I will forever remember the day i was so privileged to witness the greatest battle sequence in the history of film, tv or what ever else! ..Bravo
There are a lot of films with really good major battle scenes.
Not to call always LOTR, but also Akira Kurosawa films would be a good start.
+Pierluigi Di Pietro lets say it defentely was the biggest and best series battle scene. imo absolutly nothing can reach the epicness of a Lotr battle
Braveheart! The Patriot! Give me a freakin' break, are you 12?
Nope, the emotion, the tension, the camera work. Just majestic.
I was great, but there have been plenty of other well crafted battles on an much larger scale.
The Lord Of Light protected Jon from those arrows.
Rickon though... who the fuck runs from arrows in a straight fucking line???
Right.... zig zag. Everyone knows that. Or at least throw in some barrel rolls!
It's like he's never seen Apocalypto
+Tom Ochova ramsay said the faster you get to your brother...faster means a straight line.distance vs displacement.but yeah, with a hundred arrows being shot at you,"fuck the brother" should have been the thought. kids do mistakes
underrated lol
Much more authentic than most movie battles. I liked how this battle portrayed a disciplined, trained, and well led army destroying an armed mob. The shield wall was like a Greek phalanx. Only the arrival of friendly cavalry at the last moment saved the day for Jon Snow so I wonder why Ramsey, (don't get me wrong, he was evil, brutish and sadistic but a competent battle commander) didn't have scouts afield to reconnoiter.
Mike Brown
Because he killed his own cavalry to form the wall of corpses and wounded, suffocating men, which he used to trap Jon’s forces.
Who else was screaming at Rickon to run in zig zags?? 😂
if he wasn't thinking *straight*, why didn't he zig-zag XD
Lol so true I was screaming that in my head
Serpentine tactic was not yet invented at that time period. LOL ikr add that wun wun idiot ho suddenly stopped using weapons after the battle at the wall.
it was indeed perfect because before the last one you weren't even looking!
Rickon, do the Apocalypto thing - come on kid.. Damn it..
Jon "THE SAVAGE" Snow.
Well, I think Jon feels he shouldn't be alive, he should've stayed dead. He defends himself for the sake of winning, but I don't think he has any sense of self preservation anymore.
Well, it is a Brave New World out there ahah
Jon "RNG God" Snow
he is a man of honor like his father..
True. And he's a much better fighter than Ned, for sure.
Without Wun Wun they never would have wun
That pun was a good wun.
You've Wun the Internet for today
+Darth Valeryon Wun must leave the comments section then.
now they can't wun gg
Don't forget uncle benjun
If a TV show (OK HBO, you're not TV, we get it) can pull off this, then movies are dead. This is the future.
it's already happening. a lot big Hollywood films can't make this. they're stick doing pg 13 to get lowest common denominators and make profits.
Michael Weston the actual historical battle of watling street
hey man at least she can fight in the dark now, did that needed to take 2 years of our life? not really.
Well said. I think this season has been very good overall, but episodes 6-8 really meandered and as you said, the Arya conclusion was terrible. But episodes 1-5 and now episode 9 were excellent IMO
hitdoctor24 what was the point of arya going through all that just to end up breathing the many faced God
at 7.40 Kit said "at that moment when KIT comes up and goes for breath..." personal metaphor i guess.
I thought I had misheard!
+Jonathan O'Neill i had to replay. the teletext did type "he" but there was a distinct 'kh' sound. Freudian slip i'd surmise.
i think he wanted to say he, but he's brain froze :)
That was jon snow talking about kit
Then who was phone?
I so sad that Giant Liam Neeson died.
The Umber guy also looks like Liam Neeson as Zeus in Clash of the Titans
Best comment
Now I can't unsee it.
I'm
also that. lol
Seeing D&D is almost like seeing an ex you had a horrible breakup with. That weird feeling of thinking, "I used to love the shit out of this person and now the very sight of them makes me want to rip their skin off."
7:47
Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden
Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!
Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
A sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!
Anyone?
I felt more along the lines of "Death, death, death! Death take us all!" But maybe that was Jon after Rickon's death. Fuck. That got to me.
That was the second thing I thought of, the first was the Silmarillion, when the Gondolin's army arrives, although with a different ending, here the good guys won.
DEAAAAAAAAAAAATHHHHH
DEATH!!!!!!!!!
+John Rorschach someone really needs to say, "Day shall come again!" at some point in the show, what with all the talk of the Long Night....
How BRILLIANT can a show get??? GAME OF THRONES is just the BEST SERIES EVER!!!!
Check out The Wire and Battlestar Gallactica =]
got nothing on game of thrones when it's all said in done it'll be the best show in history
AMEN!
A strong contender. Definitely the best Medieval fantasy show ever IMO.
It's great. Best ever? No. Wire, Breaking Bad, Sopranos are the holy tv trinity.
Guessing Rickon has never played Rust. Why u no zig zag?!
i was thinking exactly the same.
Or he could of just looked back to see when Ramsey let's go of the arrow then just leap right
Right? He was too young to learn anything from Ned or his brothers.
+Noelia Jaime it's common sense/instinct to jump down when confronted with a moving object.....
Mohamed Umar But not everyone uses common sense as you may have noticed on the internet for example lol.
3:10 the white horse on the right is feeling like a boss.
One of the best battle scenes I think I've ever seen in film or tv or anywhere.
Lord of the rings, the return of the king still has, the best battle in a movie.
In TV, yes is the best, but it doesn't come close to the Minas Tirith/Pelennor Fields battle... yet overal I think it's second on the list or at the very least 3rd.
+Jon Targaryen that's right ;)
+Jon Targaryen is that a medieval movie?
Return of the King movie
One big question i had watching, wheres Ghost? Still awesome though
He saw what happened to Shaggydog and noped the fuck out of there.
In all seriousness though, who knows. Maybe budget constraints? He's been pretty sparse the whole season, with the exception of course of the first two episodes.
I believe Jon left him at Castle Black to make sure people think twice about usurping Edd.
They spent all the budget on the dragons and battle scene so didn't have enough for Ghost
Probably back at camp. Why would Ghost be in the fight? A dire wolf would get killed instantly by all of those arrows. A battle of that size is no place for Ghost.
or connection with Summer
Oh, I think we all can admit we will miss Ramsey.
Not anymore. Until last season I would've missed him. This season he was just so boringly ultra-evil.
Nah dude ur gonna take over now
+Sid Kapoor Maybe you're right😉
you will miss Ramsey ? let me guess you live in LA ? fake people.. now go change ur status to #PrayForRamsey
I will miss him he was my favorite character
My one and only issue with this awesome battle is not giving wun wun a weapon. I mean couldn't they have found him a tree trunk or something..
Steven Harrison big facts
Exactly..thats what I was thinking when boltons were butchering them.
I get why they didnt, hed be unstoppable but I totally agree.
@@Victoria-ff9lv exactly. He could kill dozens and dozens in a minute. No shield is gonna protect you from that.
Motiejus L 🤣🤣🤣 it would be funny AF tho, in a morbid way
It seems Jon finally did the impossible, he defeated the legendary Ser Twenty of House Goodmen, an incredible feat.
Well Jon did use a Mormont shield against Ramsay's arrows in the end. That means that at least one of those 62 men made it all the way through the battle and into Winterfell. I guess their reputation holds true.
Uhm... and what about Lyanna Mormont? D:
There's no way she was part of the battle. She's fine.
She just chilled with the wolf and Melisandre.
No 20 good men could ever pierce through the plot armour.
This entire battle felt like something out of a good game of Mount & Blade.
I thought the same, cool game :D
M&B is love
M&B is life
Can we all agree the Vale Knights are 100% OP Swadians?
Hrolfgard yee you should check out "A clash of kings" mod for warband, the Vale knights are fucking OP
***** Last time I played it the different factions didn't have unique units. I'll give it a whirl.
When Sansa sent a raven to Petyr Baelish asking for reinforcement, did you know he wrote back? This is what he wrote:
"Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east."
True story I swear. 😆
When I saw the Vale's banners I expected to see Gandalf so bad.
fake, i didn't see a staff doing a magic blinding tactic.
New raven, who dis?
what happened to the riders of rohan? fake!!!
lol I actually quoted that to my nephew when we saw the charge!
Still one of the greatest things to ever be put on television. This whole episode had me on the edge of my seat and I was like 😱
This episode completely makes up from last week's about 10 times over. Having that fear that they were going to lose the battle then Knights Of The Vale come and destroy bitch ass Ramsey with one attack. Now the real battle is on its way but they're preparing. RIP Rickon Stark and Wun Wun.
glad the knights of vale came in to help
From #holdthedoor to #openthedoor
And Ramsay, don't forget him. R.I.P. Ramsay :'(
Ripped into Pieces*
I dont get why you talk about Fear? There was nothing about fear, quite literally only indifference about Jon, for all I care they could have run him over, would have saved thousands of his allies.
yes.I am so happy Tormund survived because i had read somewhere that he would die along with Wun Wun.
Ramsey being eaten by the dogs were the most satisfying thing I've ever experienced... Please tell me I'm not the only one😅
Ramsay was my favourite character of S6... Seems like I'm the only one feelsbadman
Same here, loved the psychopathic little bastard. I mean sure he was a horrible person but he made every scene he was in and all of his segments were a joy to watch. Great character portrayed by an amazing actor.
+DeadshotYT - I thought nothing could top Joffrey's death but this one more than did.
You are NOT the only one - I was on the edge of the sofa, cheering!
+Toddler Ed - No, winter is coming, Ramsay would just be a distraction when the real war comes.
I love Jon and Sansa’s unspoken interaction when he gives her Ramsey Bolton’s kill. A sort of apology for not thinking she could be a leader in battle and also a sort of fulfillment for everything Ramsey did to her
The Battle of the Bastards was simply a masterpiece.
4:25 this was the best thing I have ever seen! So fucking cool. This whole start of the fight where they filmed Jon Snow for so long without cuts. Best directing and choreography in a war scene I have ever seen, period! Better then all movies as well. Just simply perfect!
When Jon Snow was buried in the dead bodies, I literally forgot to breathe😂
I never thought Jon took it to far in that beating scene, anyone else?
yeah, I was kind of hoping he would breaks his arms and legs
I was weirdly thinking he was gonna do something really brutal -- like put the shield in his mouth and stamp on it, breaking his head in two...or something...
exactly, it just satisfying tbh. realizing things ramsay has done.
@@r_naldi tbh I wish sansa or someone flayed him lol
He didn’t take it far enough
-SVanTha Not strictly true mate, WW1 had bayonette charges, melee combat in the trenches and heck even horse frontal charges by really idealistic and idiotic commanders early on. ;)
And this scene where Jon and his army gets surrounded is very much based on Antiquity. A mix between classical Greek Hoplites, Macedonian Phalangites and Roman Legionaries.
Benjamin Shultz they carried big shields in WWI did they? and the arms/armor in the show harkens to the medieval period, not the classical.
The episode was predictable but pretty amazing! vale coming in JUST IN TIME, but still too late, hurts me deeply xD
P.S. Can't wait for some Queen on Queen action :3
more than predictable it was forshadow many times in fact the chapter was great because in spite of it it made us(at least for me) feel the tension and fear for jon & co lives
because they actually showed us Sansa's letter
Well to be fair there was only no fear for Jon. Co was definitely in danger.
It wasn't too late. It was as Sansa planned and wanted it imo.
Hey Sansa, next time tell Jon that you made a deal with Littlefinger. You would have saved thousands of lives.
Ah shit.. why did you have to point that out. :P That's true.
JustJoe I buy this explanation.
Had not considered that angle yet, would make her a brilliant strategist In a way. On the other hand, she could have told Jon, and decided to keep the forces back anyway. Would have had similar results, but they could have charged earlier.
Honestly if u notice, sansa didnt give two fucks about rickon dying!
Because she knew the truth and she wasn't close to him anyway. She understood what had to be done!
she was closer to him then to jon. but your right she already knew he was dead and resovled that as soon as she got the letter. and she already went through the greving process the first time when she thaught theon killed him
Little brothers.......they're just a pain...
She knew before that he was going to die. She had come to terms with it to a certain point.
She had come to terms with him being dead already. She knew his fate ever since she knew Bolton had him. Always easier to handle a death when you know it's coming ahead of time. Cancer vs car crash kinda thing.
Nothing will ever beat the battle of the bastards episodes.
RIP Wun Wun, Giant of my heart
Just look at Petyr's face, could he be anymore smug?
And who even sits on a horse like that. Only Littlefinger.
I was thinking along these lines, and along the rescue it would be to kill Jon in a collateral move/damage so that he cant protect Sansa from LF
Nah he would never go into a war with them. We have seen in the show he actually has affection for Sansa. If he was to do anything, it would be something more sinister and cunning like marrying Sansa to become the warden of the north.
Sorry, was I supposed to feel unsettled by Jon's wrath? I was so satisfied...
Battle of bastards ,it’s so epic
Haven’t seen a war portrayal so real
Jon snow is my fav character
Even though the episode was quite predictable, the execution and cinematography was fantastic.Props to the director, who by the way also directed Hardhome.
We all hate Ramsay, but lets applaud for the Iwan Rheon who played him and did a great job creating this abomination!
Tormund > Suarez
HAHAH wow.

Lmao this is gold!
haha
This is literally my favourite episode❤️ the amount of work that went into this is absolutely incredible, I truly appreciate it.
Bravo. This was easily the best episode of the show, and one of the best episodes of television of all time.
Lots of people see Catelyn Stark in Sansa's final words to Ramsey. I see Cersei.
oh boy
I see little of Joffrey too, she's becoming like them
+KidZoneChannel how is that?
You meant to say much worse, right? She knowingly let Rickon die even though she could bargain for him with Vale army.
she almosted quoted Cersei when she's talking to Jon. Cersei has almost the same conversation with her dad Tywin. "Did it ever occur to you that I am the one that deserves your confidence and your trust? Not your sons, not Jaime or Tyrion, but me? Years and years of lectures on family and legacy…Did it ever occur to you that your
daughter might be the only one listening to them, living by them?"
I love how Iwan (Ramsey) says "it was nice to get to do a final scene with Sophie. Especially after last season..."
Just the way his voice trails off and he stares into space and probably thinks "oh yeah, I did some bad shit" .
"They're loyal beast." --- Ramsay Bolton
"They were. Now they're starving." --- Sansa Stark
couldnt sansa have just told jon, 'look ive got an army of about 6k heavy cavalry coming in later today, just hold up a lil' :P
Ramsey would of prob would of ran to winterfell and held a seige instead.
I don't think she completely knew herself if littlefinger and the Arryns would have arrived at all. Plus, she's never really fought a battle before
yah ofc but if that happen that wouldnt be a battle of winterfell rofl, ure watching a tv show not a real war
Rickon was never going to survive even if Jon knew of the approaching reinforcements. He still would have ran into the trap at seeing Rickon's death so close to his hands.
+kricket250 and then where would Sansa be without Ramsay dead?
Give that stunt coordinator an Oscar
I wanted a direwolf to kill ramsey
"my dogs wont kill me"
"No, but mine will"
and in comes a direwolf eating Ramsey
Sansa's direworlf died a long time a go, way back in season 1. And Jon wouldn't get his one eat Ramsey alive. It was poetic that Ramsey's hounds killed it.
Mama Cow true
killed by his own demons as Ser Davso would say
That's the worst idea ever
GymB Gamer it really isn't
Best. Battle. Ever.
The word Epic was created to define this episode
The battle in the final hobbit movie is slightly better imo
I just recently binged watched the show and was looking forward to these after seeing it on RUclips along time ago
Session 8 ep 3 the long night.
Have you ever heard of LOTR. Lol
20 years ago and still way better ^^
Iwan Rheon is an amazing actor, Simon(Misfits) and Ramsay was an incredibles characters.
I may not agree with how they did the last 2 seasons, bit rushed, but you cant deny the amount of work and effort the SFX team has put into this show is amazing all throughout the 8 seasons.
"It's a horrible moment when you see your hero go a bit too far"
Oh boy...
Wasn't far enough.
anyone in tv production who hasn’t seen this series must make it their priority. this type of attention to detail at this scale is masterful
I love how this episode with 82.642 votes and counting still has a perfect 10/10 on IMDB
Joffrey is dead and now Ramsay. Who am I supposed to hate now
Walder Frey isn't dead yet.
The White Walkers?
High Sparrow?
the writers
Euron will be the next one probably.
I wish theon could see the ending
he deserve it more than anyone! lol
+Shailesh Das y'all forget he burnt two young children and masked them as Starks. Then again his sick got cut off.
Fuck theon, he deserved being tortured and castrated. He betrayed the starks, burned 2 childs, and tried to fuck his sister. Total asshole. Not as big as Ramsey but still.
He didn't try to fuck his sister. He was as flabbergasted as us, when he found out. It was Yara who was deducing his character
If you're watching this video some day, you have to know that this is the best fight ever in all time, idea & filming & VGX just amazing.
This fight won an Emmy Award.
"that moment when Kit" Third person Mr. Harrington?
***** 😂
so he;s a faceless man!
What time?
+Hannah Hayes 7:40
+Kitchen Sink I ended up rewatching it all just to see it, hahaha😂
We've scene a few relatively brutal battles in GoT before, but this one really showed the horrors that can occur - the pile of bodies, the gratuitous violence, this battle was utterly perfect.
Okay this director Miguel Sapochnik needs to direct every episode of Game of thrones from now on, this episode was fucking epic from start to finish props to the whole team who worked on this episode. It will definitely win the emmy for Best direction!
In 43 years of being on this planet, I don't think I've ever watched a finer 50 minutes+ of tv. Truly the best battle scene I've ever seen.
