- Game of Thrones director and House of the Dragon co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik breaks down the Battle of the Bastards. #IronAnniversary
Still haven’t seen anything quite like this scene.
10/10
Quite*
It was good👍
It was phenomenal
Still winds of winter is the best
Rohirrim charge from LotR????
One of the best directed episode on television
Miguel is the best! He directed the best episodes including Winds of Winter and The Bells.
This could be all time best!
@@jihunjung4878 yeah maybe
In world cinema too
@@Thepirireis let’s be fair here, he did what he could with the horrible writing lol
The part where Jon Snow draws his sword against the charging horses is probably one of the most visually striking scenes I’ve ever seen. IMO this is the best series ever produced in the history of television.
And I've never been so scared watching a show before lol. My mother and I were on the edge of our seats watching that.
@@Charlotte8591 yeah season 8, everyone had plot armour
and also scene that showed us how stupid john is
I agree! I love it!
@@Aaron-is8yt This was season 6 though.
The stark banner being rehung again in winterfell still makes me smile. Such a great moment and payoff.
I remember how anxious I was while waching this episode and how awesome Ramsay's death was.
Me too. It was awesome! I was a little sad that they didn't keep him alive and torture him for a long time but hey I was still satisfied with his death
Fans would've been quite happy to watch Ramsey get beat up for 10 hours at that point. Great job portraying the character by Iwan Rheon.
One of the best episodes in whole series
If not THE best episode
Agreed
With episod 10 season 1
The worst battle i saw in game of thrones.
are we really gonna ignore the most stupid death of Rickon?
It’s amazing how this episode is such a tip-of-the-hill moment in tv history
Barely
Ramsey should have gone without armor
@@samuelhaldane7413 what do you mean by that?
@@samuelhaldane7413 Nah. It's really good.
@@JC-wn7ih not really a tip-of-the hill moment, season 7 was still insane and one of the best seasons, it was only the last season that was awful
The fact that they spent 10hrs with Jon beating Ramsay makes me smile. They should release that footage!
That guy worse literally my most hated he did it so well😂
Bro chill Ramsay is just a character 😭😭😭😂💀💀
I miss this show so much. Battle of the Bastards was so epic, I remember like it was yesterday.
It will come back around 2022/2023
@@dart_ Nice profile picture 👍
@@dart_ with House Of The Dragon
We couldn't get it on our cable channels so we got it bit by bit on dvd, watched it again and again, so glad we did it this way. Brilliant series, so epic, such talent too. 😊
Best episode of the show imo. Masterpiece in directing, screenplay, acting, camera work, production value, music...
ur delusinal
@@MrBusko54 care to elaborate?
@KouchKow you clearly haven't seen much fiction then
@@MrBusko54 projection
Agreed with everything except the screenplay. Screenplay was pretty awful. Plot armour for days, magically spawning pile of bodies, Sansa randomly deciding to not tell Jon about her army for the lulz or something. Great spectacle but narratively a mess.
Best episode ever of game of thrones. I really feel this battle too much.
He is actually such a good actor
Such a shame the script was so horrible
@@Pirantsable i personally thought season 6 was ok, it wasn’t the worst but it wasn’t the best either
@@SG-je2qg Yeah it was an ok season, the shit ones were 5, 7 and 8
@@tricko8000 7-8 Were most horrible. I am not against Bran the broken ending but everything in last 2 season was so rushed that nothing made sense completely. Specially Dany's death when compared to her dreams, in her dreams she even goes behind the wall where she meet khal drogo & her son, and yet when she sees the wall it doesn't reminds her of that dream or whatever she saw in house of undying. I thought after they teased Drogon taking her to volantis where red priestess are, she will go behind wall after getting resurrected and stay with jon. That seemed only reason why she passed the wall in her dream.
@@sujitB619 I see, but personally I think seasons 6 and 7 were good. Especially season 6. It gave us three of the best episodes in the show's history: The door, Battle of the Bastards and The Winds of winter are all extremely good. Season 7 also had some really good scenes, for example Jon and Dany's meeting. The season finale also worked very well.
Besides Hardhome, (which, let's be honest...that was a massacre) this is by far my favorite battle sequence in all of GoT. Season 6 was just phenomenal overall.
Totally agree, I don't understand why people dislike season 6.
@@julieyri7265 one of the best seasons in tv history IMO. The last episode was perfect. Battle of the bastards incredible
@@jamesclacher4874 You are right. Season 6 gave us The door, Battle of the Bastard and Winds of Winter. Those three episodes are really game of thrones at their best. What's the point of people not liking this season?
nah I liked season 6 definitely
@@julieyri7265 Winds of Winter was the series finale in my mind. We can just imagine that Dany defeated Cersei and made Westeros great again.
This episode and Winds of Winter are easily the top two in GoT in my opinion. The three episodes I still remember all of the feelings from are these two plus the Red Wedding. We may just never see the likes of this again. I wish they had finished the series on a much stronger note though; easily could have gone another three seasons.
No replacement found for this episode! This is the epic battle of all!
When John snow finally got up and looked around, tormound was getting whooped, giant was half dead and sir davos looked hopeless, I was what the fuck, they are all dead
My favorite battle of Game of Thrones
This episode alone pulls me back every few months. I have to rewatch it all the way through, from rickon running, to Bolton being nommed by the pups. Goosebumps every single time.
Nothing I've seen on film compared to this scene. It was so intense just watching it, my heart was beating out of my chest, I had to pause the episode it to catch my breath. This entire episode was perfection.
Same, every time I’m watch my heart races for Jon and I can’t breath lol 💗😭you feel it in your heart so much bc you’re there with him
@@devenfeldstein9796 Exactly!! Especially when he's being trampled and the shields are closing in on all of them....terrifying!!
@@SparklingSilverCurls omg that’s the part that makes me cry lol I can’t even imagine what that’s like for Jon. But bc we are with Jon you actually can!Amazing and heartbreaking. The fact that Kit actually did that and let all those men pile on top of him, he’s amazing
Hands down one of the legendary battle in film history. Even if you watch it over and over again, it will still give you goosebumps.
Helms Deep is better for sure
Even any movie scene also can't beat this epic battle scene ever!!!
GOT is better than any movie🎥 🔥🔥🔥
@@QueenDaenerysTargaryen yes your grace...
I just wrote a similar comment. Probably one the best battle scenes in television history.
Best battle ever. Better than in any TV series and movie.
Legendary television! One of the greatest episodes on the greatest show ever created!
Yessss agreed 💗 amazing acting too!!!
This will be forever one of the greatest scenes in any tv show. Absolutely stunningly done!
Jon is the heart of GoT, he is the best character in the world to me 💗 You are with Jon the whole time going through everything that he is when he was in one of the most vulnerable places he’s ever been. I always cry when he almost gets crushed and suffocated by his own men, one of the most heartbreaking, emotional sequences, and Jon finds the strength and hope himself to keep going, to fight his way up. Kit said that was one of the most important scenes of the season to him and in that moment Jon was actually reborn. The hope Jon always finds no matter what he’s been through makes me cry. Thank you Kit for your dedication to Jon and giving him your heart and to Miguel for your partnership with Kit in making Jon’s story feel so real and like we are right there with him, takes my breath away. Best acting I’ve ever seen 💗💗 one of the best episodes ever! In love
Shame he did nothing in s8...
@@martinsmith8185 go away from from my comment and delete it. He did so much. Saved the world twice. He did the biggest thing in this show. Literally the climax of the show is the scene with him and Dany. It all came down to Jon and his choice. Your comment is ridiculous 😊
@@devenfeldstein9796 fucking dnd makes season finale really jokes..
@@devenfeldstein9796 I like when he ran around winterfell and shouted at a dragon. Truely the prince who was promised. His lineage was very important....
@@martinsmith8185 stop being obnoxious, and discrediting all that Jon did. You’re a hater. I’m not gonna here any word. Jon did the most in this show. He United everyone to fight tirelessly against the dead, armored them, risked his life to get dany to join, took on both viscerion and the Night King in the sky and had rheagal tore his brothers neck out, burned millions of whites on top of a dragon. He did plenty. And he had more to do with killing dany which was what this entire show was always meant too come down to him, bc he is the prince that was promised to me, he brought peace by what he did and killed dany just like the mythical figure killed his lover to bring peace. Stop it now I can see you’re just a hater. His lineage mattered a great deal, it caused so many things that happened and shaped a huge deal of the story.
That continuous camera shot........ MMMMM so good
One of th best Battles on screen.. Respect for the Hardwork
The best war scene I’ve ever seen period
Truly amazing
I'm so glad to know that Miguel is gonna be working on House Of The Dragon too
Battle of the Bastards was hands down the greatest episode of television ever made.
Masterpiece of a battle.
Hands down, this is the best I've ever seen in tv. The buildup, the acting, the filming is just completely insane.
This is gonna go to history as best battle that was ever filmed
That titel already belongs to Helms Deep
This scene is incredible👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Definitely one of my favorite episodes in the entire show and my fave battle. I was blown away watching this episode for the first time.
this is just amazing.... all of the crews and the casts,,, really really was one of the unforgettable TV Series of all Times....
Real masterpiece
My favorite episode 💯
This episode is the best in game of thrones 🔥🔥
There’s so many plot wholes 😂
Hardhome also..
Miguel Sapochnik is showrunner of House of the Dragon 🔥
Yeah Baby!!!
As awesome as the following battles were, they never managed to top this one. Everything came together perfectly here.
Wonderful creativity that made this show so special.
So much practice and training they did for ever single shot😍❤
This was a beyond brilliant battle scene!
The best battle I've seen. Good work!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
one of the best episodes. so epic and so massive in the production that it gives so much thrill that you feel you are in the battle.
one of the best episode in TV history
love this episode. best war szene i ever see. love the long part without cut.
Probably the best battle scene in television history.💯 The 🎥 work and angles was extraordinary.
epic scene of cinematic and drama world
Hollywood's American film industry operates on a whole other level when it comes to movie production. Its exceptional CGI, top-notch acting, and unwavering commitment to crafting cinematic masterpieces are unparalleled.
I agree overall. GoT is peak of media, and reaches the peak of cinematography in several episodes, like BotB.
but the show benefitted from hiring British actors. There were Americans like Dinklage, but isn't British acting school generally thought to be better?
Although the writing faltered greatly by the last three seasons, you can't deny how great the battle scenes were, especially this one.
The writing for season 6 was not bad.
Eh, I’d argue season 6 is good I term is writing, season 7 is where the major problems starting
Still gives me the chills. It was painful to watch then, it is painful to watch now. Epic.
It was great to see it then, painful to rewatch it now after S8.
@@sankharaYT GoT fans go 5 seconds without talking about S8 challenge
@@user-xi8yh8qi9j Impossible. :D

Cinematic brilliance !! From technical aspects to acting everything was perfect and Ramsay death was cherry on the top !!
Just finished this episode and season 6! Can’t wait for 7&8
Greatest show ever 🙌 ❤ 👏
I watched the series all the way through for the first time around Christmas 2020. This episode was so amazing that i watched it a second time before continuing on to the next episode.
One of the greatest battles of all time.
Teacher: Do you know history?
Me: yes
Teacher: tell me biggest war you know
Me: Battle of Bastards😌🔥
Miguel Sapochnik is such a phenomenal director. Winds of Winter especially had some of the most beautiful cinematography I’ve ever seen. The fact that this was all done with a TV show budget is even more impressive. Battle of the Bastards may not have the best writing but in terms of pure filmmaking, only lord of the rings tops it
Who'd have thought I could have gone from loving GoT to forcing myself to watch it within 2 episodes... BotB is some of the best TV i've ever seen, pure chills throughout. Although I'm still sad about Ramsay dying tbf :p
You must have really not been watching if you thought there would be a fairytale ending
@@orphanedhanyou excuse for shit writing, I had no problem with most of what happened, the way it happened was lazy. Plus the dialog that made GoT so good was pure cringe
This episode was utter perfection.
This episode was the best piece of television I have ever seen and probably ever will. Hats off to everyone involved in this masterpiece.
Game Of Thrones REMAINS THE GOLD STANDARD of Fantasy Television in my eyes (despite the fact it ended on a rubbish note) because of the quality of the cinematography, the set design, the costume design, the direction, the music, the cast and their performances, the battles, the tension and the drama. I have re-viewed the series a couple times since it ended, but I treat Season 7 as the finale and let my imagination do the rest.
a battle to remember
Sansa's grin at the end was gold
That one shot of Jon unsheathing his sword is iconic.
One of my favorite episodes!
Was lucky enough to see The Battle of the Bastards on a cinema screen. Truly awesome!
Jealous! I want to see it in a theater
Goosebumps! Best scene ever
So happy Miguel is part of House of the Dragon. The battles are going to be freakin epic!
Hands down my favorite episode
The best thing i have seen on TV.
I miss this show, but i binge watch the whole series at least 3 times a yr!
Me too! I’m rewatching right now! Last night I watched 6x3 and 6x4 which also have amazing Jon scenes ❤️😭😍
I’m doing it right now, im on season 2 episode 2
Why can't i get through this series
GOT FOREVER🥺❣️
The scene where John pulls out his sword in front of the charging horses is honestly one of the coolest scenes ever
This is one of the best episode I've watched till now!
Has anyone cried during sansa and little finger arrived with his force? Feels like my hope got restored
And I loved her little smile when leaving Ramsey getting eaten.
That last 30 minutes was brilliance. From jon and ramsey having that talk and ramsey realizing he couldnt do anything to press jon’s buttons to tormond almost dying and then fighting back, to the vale coming to the rescue and finally seeing winterfell come back to the starks. This was top quality television. 👍👍
For me Jon is the hope in GoT 💗 when he came back, the hope is back
for many of the characters too, they look to Jon for it
The battle Of Bastards Season 6 Episode 9. This is the most visualrealistic battle i have ever seen. Everything is perfectly shot. The way John pulled a sword against bolton army that is the scene which i never forgot in my entire life. Kudos to the team of GOT.
Definitely not realistic but visually stunning.
The writing for this battle wasn’t good, but the way it was shot… it's the peak of cinematography.
Writing good or bad, the battle is visually and from a practical POV absolutely impressive. It's actually insane how good and amazing it is.
Greatest series I’ve ever seen.
Major kudos Mr. Sapochnik. You are a directing genius.
Watching it all over again and not wanting it to end
I don't know why this episode fall to 9.9
It definitely deserves 10/10 on IMDb
Cause the battle of Meereen at the start was a waste and dull plus it made no sense why Sansa wouldn’t tell Jon about the vale forces
He was the best character of the series..
Yes agreed 💗
One of my favourite episodes❤
I find it really funny how after season 8 most people have just given up and rolls their eyes when seeing the notification.
Yep, this is the first one of these I've actually watched lol. Season 8 killed any excitement I'd have about an Iron Anniversary.
If you’re not interested then why comment?
I find it really funny how everyone commenting about how they’ve given up on the show are always the first ones to click and comment on a new GameofThrones video. Sometimes, the actions speak louder than words... Anyway, sorry to disturb the circlejerk.
Then go away. But yet you’re here, proving that even the most hateful and ridiculous of comments prove the hypocrisy. that this is the best show of all time and you’re all still interested🥰
Wow. Just because I don’t like season 8 doesn’t mean I don’t like GoT, jeez get off your high horses.
Yes that is why it looks spectacular to watch
Without hesitation this is the best 60mins of TV ever produced. It is the Mount Everest to climb for future filmmakers.
LOL yeah, the actual Himalayans are way more impressive than GoT S8.
ramsay's death is so satisfying to watch, i still remember how good this episode is
One of the epic battle till date of motion picture.
Last two episodes of Season 6 INCREDIBLE!!!!!!
Best episode of the series. Goosebumps all the way
