For a single-episode character meant to show the death toll of a major battle without sacrificing any regulars, Karsi was actually pretty effective, in large part because nobody (except for perceptive book readers) had any idea the Hardhome scene would go the direction it did. For all intents and purposes when the main conflict of the scene was "Jon Snow and Tormund have to win over suspicious wildlings", Karsi seemed like a new regular being introduced up until the moment you realize this is a massacre scene and she's just said goodbye to her kids. At that point you can pretty much tell she's a goner, but it still has weight to it because of the way the scene had set her up beforehand.
+First Last there's gonna be 4 large fight scenes in season 7...lannisters vs tyrells...lannisters vs dothraki n unsullied...euron vs yara n theon...and episode 6 is gonna be white walkers vs Jon snow
There will be definitely fight scenes in season 7, quote me on that. And there are many more awesome directors out there, but this one definitely was very, very convincing.
It's always embarrassing to hear Norwegian people speak English without a script. Our accent is so awkward. Take Birgitte as a contrast. Her English is a lot more fluid, even though Danish and Norwegian are similar in many ways. Harsh, clipped sounds, not at all melodic like Swedish.
Walter Somers it is very much necessary in TWD because that's basically what the show is all about. Here, the wights and white walkers occupy barely 20% of the screen time.
There need to be more productions like GoT, not even mentioning the amazing acting, world building, and writing, the appreciation for the VFX guys and the extras in just amazing. Hearing Kit Harrington explain how their extras were out there in the same conditions for even longer than they were and were just as important as him and his fellow main cast was just incredibly gratifying to extras and bit part actors everywhere!
You can tell how everyone speaking in this video worked so hard to make this not suck. The same sensibility must just be gone on some bad Hollywood movies.
Michael Puente He means this storyline is as he's the main character in this part of the narrative. It doesn't necessarily mean the whole of Game of Thrones is Jon's story in the end.
Watching these behind the scenes of GoT makes it pretty clear why no other show can compare. The vision and production required for the end product on screen is just insane.
the coolest thing about this show are the actors...they're almost all of them perfectly cast, if you know the books you know how on point the casting is...and they obviously like doing the roles and they very much understand their characters too.
panfriedd they tried that but it didn't work for some reason, can't remember exactly why. Just know they did try, it wasn't just conveniently forgotten about
In one of the behind the scenes from an earlier season someone says that Viserys and Dany couldn't see through their contact lenses so the purple eyes were scrapped.
I agree though I think Ramsay Bolton wasn't well cast at all in the looks department. In the books he's supposed to be ugly and vile looking with long greasy hair but well, you can't call his appearance ugly in the show when he's played by Iwan Rheon, at least he got his gross personality on point
And because of this kind of episodes, Game of Thrones has been the greatest serie ever, doesn't matter the end, the important part is the journey that we have been into. Valar Morghulis.
Not to forget all the connection they build up just to let him be killed by Arya. Arya should have gotten Cersei or somebody else... There was absolut no connection between Arya and the Night King.
Of all time!? The show hasn't even ended yet. Wait for the show to end, then you can talk all you want. Season 7 and 8 are going to be lit with the battles.
I didnt watch GOT from the beginning of season 1 till the end so i didnt really get all the hate season 8 got. That is, until i started watching major scenes and episodes like this and i started comparing the intricacies and complexities behind them, i now understand the shame.
I remember at the end of this episode saying out loud "What the fuck do you do against THAT!?" I remember feeling so vicerally that Westeros had just no chance fighting off the Night King and his army.
"We wanted to shoot it from Jon's point of view, because its Jon's story in the end" ... YEAH except for the fact that Jon got fuckin boned in the finale and put down like a sick horse
As someone who has NOT read the books, I had no idea that THIS AMAZING scene was created for the show. D&D + the rest of the team did great! This was terrifying the first time I saw it.
Truly brilliant. GOT will forever be a treasure, all those creative minds . I'm happy their hard work and dedication is definitely paying off. This is historic for sure.
The girl who plays the Wildling, "Karsi," Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, is actually a very beautiful Danish actress, singer, and dancer, ruclips.net/video/2TN-L4wGGHQ/видео.html (she was in, "Pitch Perfect 2," and, "Automata," etc.) and although she only appeared in this one episode, after her scene opening her eyes when the Night King raised the dead, her role has since become an iconic moment in the television history of Game of Thrones. I hope she appears, (lol killing Winterfell children,) in season 8.
As a Location sound Mixer I still find it kind of funny that the sound departement isn't even mentioned with one word. Still you see those boom poles in most of the making of shots.
One supervisor (or was it the director?) mentioned the importance of sound to the episode and the horror, but you're right, a nod to Sound with even one interview would've been great.
Man and as hard as it was , as a regular audience person, found it to be one of the most shaking moments of the show, like it was easy to imagine being there and going through that, such f. Up feeling like one’s worst nightmares, absolutely unsettling, INTENSE
@@ATXrollerblader The Hobbit used a shit ton of particle effects. Not as much as Lord of the Rings, but that's because the damn movie studio was forcing Peter to make these movies faster. If Peter had been given the time he wanted to make them, they would have been on par with the original trilogy.
That’s one thing I’m very happy with about the GOT fans.....we all have our opinion of how the script went but NOT ONE OF US can complain about the visual effects of this movie. Those people are the real winners of these episodes. Unbelievable! When the actors even say ‘it looks real’, that’s a huge compliment to those departments. Great job!
This is my favourite scene in all of GoT ❤ It shows the real threat...the real war...the great war...and that only this war matters because the army of the dead is un-stopable and will be the doom of all mankind!
Hardhomme episode is the absolute best thing that ever happened in the show that never happened in the books. Honestly, it might be one of the best ever regardless book or show. I say that without book 6 or 7 having been published yet, but I believe it will still stand by itself after TWOW and ADOS.

Karsi was a really cool character considering how little time we had with her.
Yea, she seemed like a very smart and sensible wilding.
whowantsabighug I would have liked to have more time with her, but now I hope that we never see her again! :P

This director also did "Battle of the Bastards" in season 6. He's awesome, wish we could have more of him.
He should direct everything, ever.
He will not be doing any episodes in season 7. Such a shame :(
The directors of large fight scenes have no episodes in S7, this could even mean there will be no large fight scene in season 7

Tormund without a deep voice... STOP IT!
I know right? Hearing his normal voice/accent completely threw me off. Its so weird.
TheDrexxus Typical Scandinavian accent
as he would say, it's crase-y!

Jarl Lillebø it's all good!
here you see the difference between all series and game of thrones, the amount of work they put into the smallest details is amazing
peter-paul kutschlojenga lol I don't see how this is a small detail
Small details like making the night king's horns translucent
peter-paul kutschlojenga yes, especially when I heard how they categorized the wights for make up purposes. That really blew my mind!!
Nida Mapari they do that in the walking dead aswell
Walter Somers it is very much necessary in TWD because that's basically what the show is all about. Here, the wights and white walkers occupy barely 20% of the screen time.

Westworld is pretty good too in "that type" of productions :)
Yea and only to ruin and rush the ending....
RIP Karsi =/ I really wish that she was more than a one-off character. She had a presence, onscreen.
Hardhome is my favorite battle (massacre) scene. The writing, action, and CGi were just perfection!
Pokadot101 for me Blackwater will always take that honour and the battle for the wall was awesome
this scene was some of the best horror Ive ever watched. Everything this show does it seems to do really well.
Agreee. Including the porn.
fupopanda yes shae has some amazingly realistic scenes on pornhub
Blissfully old comment....
Didn't age really well, did it?
Hardhome is my favorite GoT battle scene in the series. I was absolutely TERRIFIED from start to finish.
Every penny was a good investment on that episode. It was the first glimpse of how powerful the nightking really is and they got it totally right.
"It's Jons story at the end"
Michael Puente He means this storyline is as he's the main character in this part of the narrative. It doesn't necessarily mean the whole of Game of Thrones is Jon's story in the end.
he means this ep "Hardhome" is Jons story obviously.
well the books are called a song of ice and fire and if anybody combine this two elements is Jon Snow
BUT JON IS TEH SON OF LYANA AND ARTHUR DAYNE WHERE IS THE FIRE IN THAT?
He is of Lyanna Stark (ice) and Rheagar Targaryen(fire), Not Arthur Dayne.
The producers have done fabulous work, i can't begin to imagine how tricky it is to produce these episodes.
This director is irreplaceable. I love all of the episodes he directed!
Watching these behind the scenes of GoT makes it pretty clear why no other show can compare. The vision and production required for the end product on screen is just insane.
and it failed so badly 😪
Yes, the writing had problem, but everything else is above other shows.
That's why the critisism that D and D receive is completely insane and unfair
