Just one example...One guy said he had over $4000 wrapped up in fuel injection and scrapped it all after being stranded by it several times and constantly trying to work out problems. He went back to carb and never looked back.

Your not being negative brother. You are speaking from your heart. This is what you feel. There have been a few companies over the years that I have felt the same way about. Thank you for speaking from your heart.
Speaking of holleys. Quick question, would a big back fire pretty much ruin the carb unless it’s rebuilt? Cause today i started my truck up and ran it to few places and everything was cool, then on my way home I noticed a misfire and then the closer i got home, the more it misfired and after i got home i messed with my timing a little bit but no matter what I did it continued to misfire but now only in gear. So I go inside and hangout and worry about it later. Go to start it again and it shoots a huge flame and now it won’t even start now. So I’m assuming something on the carb is messed up. Cause spark plugs wires and distributor and cap and rotor are all brand new. My carb is only a few months old too. I adjusted float levels and that’s good. Only thing I’m thinking is maybe I messed up the power valve?
So if a carburetor back fires thru the carburetor it can kill a power valve depending on the age of the carburetor. Newer ones have a by pass to prevent this. What your describing sounds more like the coil is going bad, possibly a slight timing issue but sounds more like the coil is getting weak and dying
