Great video, exactly what I look for. Thank you for taking time to make this video and being so thorough. before, and after an upgrade, this is pure gold.
Yes, exactly what I was about to say. The annular booster alone is worth a lot. Then the air bleeds might be closer to making a better fuel curve to what that little motor liked.
I agree with what you say, sounds like what I said. That’s probably why this one sat in a box for a while. Just wasn’t excited to try it. But man what a great carburetor it turned out to be
There is a video on RUclips where the owner of a slant six moper put an Edelbrock VRS carb on the aftermarket intake and the engine did have a non stock performance leaning camshaft. The carb worked perfectly. IMHO, it is the annular boosters that make the difference. Edelbrock did tons of homework on this and got it right. I have know for a while that if you need a 650 and you put an annular booster 750 on the engine, it will work just fine. I think Edelbrock has taken it to the next level while Holley is concentrating on EFI.
Bobby, were really struggling with changing teams. I get it, That thing out performed my Holley/Proform 830 prepped carb, with one jet change. gained 10hp, 15tq. We told you!! 😂 That VRS is some type of magic 🪄. That carb is what happens when you let hotrod engineers put every trick in the book in a production carb.
Hey you converted me. I didn’t mind a Edelbrock on a street car but I would have never given one a chance on a performance engine. I’m definitely in love with this one. ! I am convinced it will improve anything across the board
More of an apples to apples comparision would be against a Holley Ultra XP, both carbs would have simular features at that point, $1,000 carburator vs $1,000 carburator. With that being said there's no doubt this Edelbrock VRS is a very nice carburator and is giving Holley a run for it's money.
I like the honest evaluation presented here. I’m Holley too, but like the early Quick Fuels I have better than Holley. They are typical same design w/ more features but the quality on Q/F is better than Holley. Appearance is Edelbrock is a quality piece. Possibly better than Q/F.
Works perfectly here but I’m in SC and even our coldest days ain’t that cold. I’m sure if you’re in Alaska it may be a different story. I did a cold start short a few days later and it busted right off
@@HotRodGuyGarage Just got this from the engineering team at Edelbrock. " The VRS is sealed on the airhorn so it could be used in a blow through application. The floats are already capable of handling it. The issue is the metering blocks. The channel sizes (that flow the fuel for the main metering circuit) are good for a naturally aspirated engine. For a blow though or E85, the channel sizes need to be opened up for more fuel. As soon as the larger channel metering blocks are available, we’ll offer them as an upgrade."
I'm a die hard EFI guy, I HATE carburetors, but I am really looking at this carb for a tunnel ram set-up, I might have to pull the trigger on it, the venturi design may give it an edge over EFI. I hope you do get it tuned for your Cougar and report back on the new times.

@frizzellracing Thanks again for your testing and information. I didn't know that they came out with a new carb. you're putting the VRS on very mild street engines. sure they may pick up a bit because they are under-carbureted. on an already tweaked combination with a pro built Holley carb, you won't see that gain. at best you'll be able to change bleeds, emulsions easier to try to match a pro built carb. because the VRS is already d/t with threaded brass in all locations. my question is this, do you have enough jets to rejet those 58 holes in the VRS, and more critically, do you have the time, patience, facility, knowledge ? where would you start in the example below to find the HP they lost with the VRS ? ruclips.net/video/Jb09TdY1GKo/видео.html
The cougar that I put it on isn’t a mild engine. That car is pretty strong. And I did say if you had a professional built high end carburetor you may not see that gain, BUT the average guy isn’t gonna have that. This was just a real world bolt in comparison. Plus it’s in the world to do a similar video on a full race engine at the track in a back to back test
This video is exactly the kind of real world experiences people wanted to see with these carbs
