I can't believe the performance of these carbs! I think once I run mine a bit I leaned the screws a quarter turn. Response and power is amazing! I'm running the 650 CFM on my 68 Ford Thunderbird with 429 Thunderjet
Thanks for showing all the pros and cons of your combos. That for documenting all these different setups so we can be more informed about what we are getting into. Can't wait to see how it operates with the caspermatic transmission. I plan on using a pair of 500 CFM AVS2 Edelbrock carbs on my Edelbrock TR5 tunnel ram on my 318. I plan on trying progressive linkage and using the rear carb as the main. This places the primarys close to the center of the plenum. I want to install temp probes in each exhaust port and O2 sensors in both collectors. I should be able to dial it in quite well and see what is happening so as not to lean it out too much on a cylinder. If I have to I will run straight linkage but prefer progressive.
Besides the linkage side studs being longer, and having the nuts up higher. What if you used bolts to hold them down? Bolt head wouldn’t stick up like a nut and stud… maybe you could get the the mixture screws better then..? 🤔
I'd like to see a set of Holley NASCAR carbs ran for comparison...have two 390 CFM NASCAR Holley carbs from a top cup team on a tunnel ram'd stroked 347. The work that goes into them is unbelievable... all the machining down to hand blending on the rolled radiuses. The knife edging on the butterflies is cool to look at. I have the data sheets and the smaller NASCAR 390 carburetor flows close to 750 CFM
Looking forward to seeing how well these work, I plan to run them in the same configuration on a LS engine. Thank you for making content with tunnel rams and these carbs
I could tell an immediate power difference. I can not brag on those enough. As I told you when I spoke with you. Mine drove better than it’s ever drove and had a incredible response
Hi Andy I think 80 percent of the people that I see try to play pro stock when it comes to choosing a carburetor, my friends camaro had two 650 holley double pump with the choke plates on them with his tuning this car ran in the 7s at 170 mph in the quarter mile with a standard bore 454 , this should show people that you don't need oversized carburetors and also I can't believe how many cars I raced and beat back in the day with a holley 2 barrel that I used forever, thanks for sharing with us 👍
Those look very promising for the tunnel ram. Im going to hold off on buying carbs until you get these all tuned. But still they look to be very streetable and responsive right out of the box. Very Nice. Tunnel Ram Mafia
❤ 100 percent awesome I am not a racer but I do love to Goof Off on some back roads I've never had much luck with Holley carburetors they've always seemed to be so finicky I always like to set it and forget it I get from the ASV series I really wanted to see one of these in action thank you Andy for making this video⛽️🇺🇸
Since all the carbs you've tried are 750's, I don't see a lot of power difference between them. I have a pair of 750 holley track warriors on a t-ram BBC and i'm considering trying a pair of 1050 dominators. I expect to gain some power but possibly lose driveability but since its a race car thats not a big deal. Good on you for doing this testing and i'm glad those edelbrock carbs worked out good.
Can't say I'm surprised, I can honestly say I haven't been disappointed with any Edelbrock products, that includes 11yrs of commercial engine building, everything from stock reman. to NASCAR, with high-end street race/drag race in between. I thought the A/F ratio was a little on the fat side, as an out of box carb SHOULD be. Like Andy said, a big overlap cam makes hitting the A/F a little 'different'. The long overlap puts unburned fuel in the pipes, and the low man. vacuum will try to hang a standard power-valve open at idle. Basically shows how good the Edelbrocks are - the drivability is still good on a tunnel rammed big cammed engine, for as hard as it is to hit something good right out of the box.
What size carbs are they? You didn’t say. I have a warmed over 468 , Howard’s hyd roller cam 226/232 at 50 thou, 570/580 lift. Mildly ported Merlin oval port heads. I have an Edlebrock street tunnel ram. I’d love your opinion. Run the 650 VRS, but unfortunately they come with downleg boosters, or the 750s with the annular boosters??? Love your vids
Hey Andy my buddy is putting a 8-71 supercharger on a SBC and I have heard that the crank should have a big block snout on it or it will snap the crank off right behind the timing chain. now some say if you leave it low boost it will no hurt it and if you use more boost the crank snout will break. I have seen crank snouts snap off and want to know if you have any info about it.
You should try 2 shear plates under those carburetors I have it under My 1050 dominator it really picks The velocity and really help that Tunnel ram all across the board.
Was there any good reason for the mounting stud to be directly in front of A/F screw ... like, main body design was good for 100 horse so it had to be... If not thats freakn REDICULOUS..!!!! That would greatly affect my decision in a purchase. Thanks for the vid..? how is it going with the new seat install.?
Well I have no idea.. but these carbs will fit both a 4150 and 4500 manifold. I'm using the 4500 flange and it could be fine if using the 4150 flange I will have to dig further Andy

Hello Andy, yours and Mr. Visards videos are always so informative please keep up the great work. Off the subject for the moment, I own a few small block Chryslers some of which are magnums 5.2 & 5.9 . What is the constant for the " 128 formula" for small block Chryslers in the 8.5- 9.2 compression range? I am looking to get as much daily driver torque & mileage as possible. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. PS: one is a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 w/auto tra😅ns 318 & 3.55 gears. Another is a 1990 150 2wd auto unknown rear gear. Both are fuel injected. Man, Casper seems to really like those VRS carbs. I'm thinking more and more I need need to get away from this Demon and get me one. Like you, I've lost count of the hours I've got in that dang thing and it's still not even close to right. Don't get me wrong, the Mighty Demon is a great carb, but I'm really beginning to wonder if it and my engine will ever play nice together on the street. 🏁
Throttle response seems better now, but it was good before. I think I asked about data logging once before. Would be cool to see how the A/F looks under load on the track. Will you leave the rear end gears as is with the Caspermatic? I imagine first gear ratio will change? And you're a better man than me... I would never take Casper on a slightly damp road!👍
Annular boosters make such a big difference in terms of drive-ability. The efficient atomization translates to much better torque production down low. Aewsome video as usual Andy. Cheers. 🍻
Hey if you pay the bill to make it happen! Once I get the CASPER-MATIC in it and can actually get it to Launch the ET will show up. What do you think it should run? Andy
What's the running weight? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember there was a notion of running a OD transmmssion? And what type of trans is the "Casper Matic"? So to answer part of your question, but not knowing the weight (my iron head long bed weighs 3970) with a race C-4 it should atleast be in the low 1.4 60 foot, I'd be looking for 1.3 60s with 700 HP. So I'm thinking a 10.20s should be good in under 2000 DA.
@@VORTECPRO 4280lbs with the C4 it has went 6.80's even if it were a perfect setup I could only see it running 6.50-.60's Having the right Converter and Transbrake will help Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage I did see that, but the truck came on about 350 feet out. If you get the drive line right a 6.50 should easily happen. I would never run a trans brake in a truck myself. All the work that went into that engine shouldn't be sold short. Somehow my 79 C-10 long bed has almost ( 7 ) 45 pound weight plates less weight than Casper with a C-4 and aluminum heads?
You're probably atomizing your fuel a lot better with them small boosters at lower RPMs you will not make the power on the high side like you will with the dominators😊
Glad to see that you are ok. I got worried about you when DV said something about a medical emergency. But I didn't know who. But it's none of my business.
Typical fat "out of the box" calibration to try to cover most engine combinations. Fat always makes the engine seem more responsive and smoother. The challenge is to get them to run lean and clean and still be responsive. A good 2 circuit dommy will do that too. And yes, for an engine like that two carbs should always perform better than one due to less pumping loss and better intake runner distribution
