Gee wow this is electrifying stuff, talented lot you all were n still lives on I've spent a Sunday early evening n washing up after dinner listening to all this! Thank u very much Johnny n Cleo!! ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Saw them late in 2003 in Seattle at Jazz Alley. They were wonderful. We were in tux and sequins respectively as we’d been at the reopening of Seattle Opera’s house with Parsifal. We love opera but found that one so dull that - knowing Cleo Laine was in town - we on impulse left at intermission and headed to see if we could get in to Jazz Alley. Since we were dressed to the nines, we got a good seat and had a great time. Late in their careers but still a fine show.
Dankworth was also a gifted film composer as well. His superb score for THE SERVANT was highlighted by Cleo Laine's heartfelt rendition of the main theme "All Gone". Some of his other outstanding movie scores included: RETURN FROM THE ASHES, THE MAGUS, THE IDOL, SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING, DARLING, MORGAN, FATHOM, MODESTY BLAISE, SANDS OF THE KALAHARI and SALT AND PEPPER.
So so grateful I saw them perform live in 2011 . Been a huge fan of Cleo and John . Since her recording with Ray Charles , the double lp , Porgy and Bess . Still the very best in my ear !!,
Gratitude. My first LP from Cleo Laine and John Dankworth swas Shakespeare andf All That Jazz. I went on to get What The Dickens and others. I'm wondering if these clips will have the opening to Beyond The Fringe which done by Dankworth and his band....
What wonderful musicians John and Cleo are! I went to one of their courses - improvisation for classically-trained musicians - in the early 1990s and it was wonderful. I went to see them perform twice in the theatre and they were terrific from beginning to end.
Went to see them at Wavendon - An amazing weekend spent at The Stables! - Although I was only 17 yoa at the time, I can still remember it like it was yesterday even though it was 49 years ago.
Cleo - the best female singer
