- From the BBC archives and first broadcast in 2010. A very personal view of the richly talented Dankworth family. The programme is introduced by Cleo Laine in fond remembrance of her husband John or Johnny Dankworth who sadly passed away earlier that year.
Sir John Phillip William Dankworth, CBE 1927 - 2010, also known as Johnny Dankworth. An English jazz composer, saxophonist, clarinettist and writer of film scores. With his wife, jazz singer Dame Cleo Laine, he was a music educator and also her music director.

I was so fortunate to see John & Cleo perform at the Hollywood Bowl, an incredible evening I will never forget.
Cleo - the best female singer
Saw Cleo and John perform in Cleveland in 1979. I’ve been a fan ever since!

What wonderful musicians John and Cleo are! I went to one of their courses - improvisation for classically-trained musicians - in the early 1990s and it was wonderful. I went to see them perform twice in the theatre and they were terrific from beginning to end.
They are so wonderful 🥰
Loved that Winter Wail. Gorgeous playing!
So so grateful I saw them perform live in 2011 . Been a huge fan of Cleo and John . Since her recording with Ray Charles , the double lp , Porgy and Bess . Still the very best in my ear !!,
