This Concert at the 1982 Montreal Jazz Festival displays Cleo Laine's mastery of Blues as well as Jazz. The synergy between Cleo and John Dankworth is amazing. Their love and respect for each other is obvious here as expressed through this incredible Music. A master Singer in unison with a master Musician and Arranger, along with incredible backup Musicians, including their Son Alec Dankworth on what looks like a Bass Guitar. Turkish Delight is unbelievably incredible. Cleo's Scatting ability is unparalleled. Thank you for posting this Video.

These were musicians as good as any in the world. And always appeared the least 'starry' - they didn't need to show off or have any gimmicks because they were such top quality at what they did.

I attended every Sydney concert during the 1970's. The concerts were totally brilliant ... great songs ... superb backing ... the husband's incredible playing and the absolutely incredible voice and personality of the incredible Cleo.

This is so great...a real concert. I remember her when I was young, didn't care for her then. Now as a mature women...and loving my jazz music Ms. Laine is on fire. The ranges in her voice..are off the chart. Thank you for posting a wonderful concert. God bless her...in her 90's now.

One of the best examples of Cleo & John in concert - wish it had been commercially released on DVD as picture quality would be better! Never the less we should be grateful to those who are able to put these gems up on You Tube

Thanks for your comment Mark. I taped this from cable about 20 years ago and thought I'd lost it till I was going through some unlabelled material recently. So glad I recovered it and that the fans can enjoy it. I'd love whoever owns this concert to release it un-cut as I'm sure there must be at leaset another hour's worth which could be included in an officially release DVD. Regards.

@@largsfairlie You are right, every time that I had seen Cleo and John it was always close to a two-hour show with an intermission. She does her traditional exit but I love the night she went British and sang It's a Pity to Say Goodnight.

The start of their North American exposure around 1982. They are on fire in this! Such heat between them here. I've seen them many time in a concert setting, and while it was very exciting for me, it was more controlled. At this event, you can really tell how much fun THEY are having. She's so extra at this event--in the best possible way.

True. But actually, they came to the states at least ten years earlier. I saw them at Lincoln Center in 1973 and then at Carnegie Hall in 1974.

I love how on "Born on a Friday" she starts out, "I was born on a Friday, mmmm hmmmm". She doesn't do that every time. And, it's fun to see her do it here.
