2017 Infiniti Q60 Red Sport - The Next Step in Autonomous Driving?

  • Under that sleek sheetmetal and potent twin-turbo V6 houses one of the most advanced driver assistance tech on the market. Although Tesla's autopilot may get all the attention, Infiniti's predictive forward collision alert has the ability to scan the road ahead of the car in front of you to keep you and your passengers out of trouble. Combined with the second-generation of the company's highly controversial "direct adaptive steering" and the latest Q60 previews the next generation of autonomous driving, whether you like it or not.

    5:45 The great thing about the Tech Package is that it monitors two-cars ahead so if the guy in front of you is not watching and the car in front of him slams on the brakes, the nanny systems will detect that and stop alert you by flashing and setting off a notification on the screen. Very cool. I've had that kick in a couple of times and it's great.

    I'm a happy owner of a 2017 Q60 3.0t Sport Graphite Shadow with Tech. I
    couldn't care less if others dislike the car. I bought this car because
    it's sleek and I was having a blast while test driving it. This car is
    fun to drive and got more stare. I work in Irvine, CA and got
    compliments from people who have BMWs, Merc AMG 63 and Audi S5 at

    I own the '17 Q60 Red Sport. You literally hit 100% of my complaints and loves of this car. From the cheap paddle shifters, to the slow-to-respond 7 speed auto-trans, to the too-skinny tires, to the infotainment system, to the aged map graphics to the awesome motor, gorgeous site-lines, etc. You nailed it all. Good, honest review. Only thing I would say is that a non-lagged launch is possible from a stop by depressing the brake and the gas, blipping the RPMs to about 3,000 and letting go of the brake. This results in some wheel spin as the turbo is fully engaged, but if you feather the gas a bit, you can minimize wheel spin and knock a half second off your 0-60 time easily.

    3:30 I disagree on the transmission at 10/10ths. When pushed moderately hard to hard, the car shifts great. Up and down shifts are not an issue when driving the car hard. It's around town in every day driving that I wish it was a dual clutch or the newer ZF 8 speed auto. If you drive normal or soft the transmission matches that which in one respect doesn't matter but I do love the crispness of a better transmission even when driving normally. Otherwise, again, WOT or in fun times, it's fine.

    In the last 2 years I have become an Infiniti fan, especially the G35 Coupe and it's recent Q60 3.0T replacement (which I test drove less than a year ago). Though I prefer Coupes the styling on the new Q50 Sedan is also very attractive.... Rear Wheel drive, great performance, and from what I can tell so far great reliability gives these cars great bang for the buck. I absolutely love my G35s.

    I didn't really get much of a review about the autonomous drive. It would be nice to have someone to assist you in terms of having car in front driving then coming to complete stop so we can see how it works. Then show us highway drive on how the lane keep assist works. That's how infiniti separate itself from the competion by offering DAS steering and autonomous drive features because all cars can take you from point A to point B. The vehicle seems to be an anti accident machine so that's why it's priced close to it's german rivals. If i have to buy this car, it would be for 3 reasons: 1. Anti accident car. 2. Less driver fatigue on long trips. 3. Looks and the power. To engineer a car with all these features, infiniti should go beyond the drive and partner with insurance companies to lower insurance rates on their q60 with their tech package since it have all those active safety tech.

      Correct. My 328xi lease just ended. Crossed shopped all the European competitors and was about to lease a new 330xi. At the last minute decided to test drive a Q50 RS and loved it. A fully loaded RS lease with all the tech that wasn't available in my old BMW was cheaper. The RS is a blast to drive, especially w the run flat tires swapped out. I'm so happy w the Q50. Never thought I would ever own an Infiniti

    It sounds like buying it used and putting more soundproofing in it, and maybe getting a better display and materials to replace those plastics (carbon fiber?) would really make this a great car. Personally, having owned a Maxima and driven it on terrible Canadian roads, I could do without the steering feel (or having to adjust 10 times a second).

    As always, great review. I've held off for the last ten or so videos, but I really need to get this out there; Sofyan, when you do your walk-around it's like the OIS on your camera is turned off. It feels kinda, doe-dee-doe, doe-dee-doe around the car. I've looked back at some older vids and they walk-around is much smoother. Maybe you could put your camera on a gimbal, it wouldn't feel like you were filming on the open sea. But, as I said before, still putting out great car reviews. 👍🏼

    DAS issues and complaints to me are a first world problem. I had electric steering in my 2014 S4 and loved it. The "road feel" everyone misses is great and I am old enough to have driven my fair share of cars that communicated the road, but in every day daily drivers, that feedback can get old once you've spent time with a smooth and seamless electric steering system. The benefits IMO far outweigh the drawbacks.
    In terms of the infotainment system, I agree that it might look a bit dated compared to the over-tech looking stuff coming out, but it does a great job and let's face it, the car is relatively inexpensive compared to many others boasting the latest tech. I had a wonderful 3D Google Earth mapping system in my Audi and rarely used it. Let's face it, Waze and it's 2005 graphics just work, work way way faster and announce police and other social media items. So while they could make the graphics nicer and add car-play/Android play, users will then just be interfacing with 2005 looking maps from their phones. six and one half as they say.

    I think most people, like my self love the car outside of the Steer by Wire feature and loose back end. The Crappy tires are what gives it that brake free feeling, and the Steer by Wire can be deactivated possibly for a better authentic feel. I'm in the market now for a q50, but I want the 3.7 version AWD S model and I will boost it myself. I love the way the car looks. That's what infinity sold me on. It's definitely enough to get me to stop buying Acuras.

    I usually like this reviewer, but he seems a bit biased in my opinion, he give rave reviews for german cars (Audi, BMW) and less than good reviews for other manufacturers (Toyota..etc), he seems to be like that other reviewer at TFL cars. He likes "firm" rides of Audi or BMW and thinks that's how a "sports car" should be but a firm ride in an Infiniti or other car is "too harsh". He likes when BMW or Audi gives you "Run flats" but doesn't like it in an Infiniti. The interior of Infiniti looks dated, have you seen the interior of a BMW? Audi, I agree has an amazing interior. I also noticed no reviewer comments on long term reliability of cars of different manufacturers and thats almost across the board. I am not sure Audis, Mercedes and BMWs are the most reliable, I don't know if Infiniti is reliable as well, so I am genuinely seeking this information.

    • @elusivellama

    • @serega13
      @serega13 6 лет назад +7

      You can't use consumer reports as reliability indicator, they are mostly focused on how many seniors had issues with using technology in new cars. They should stick to reviewing toasters. Mechanically infiniti is 100 times more reliable than anything out of Germany and no they don't share reliability score with Nissan as an average infiniti shares almkstnno parts with Nissan so nothing of what you said makes any sense, congrats.

      cityking9ne So true. If you look at the inner workings and details of the new 340i's engine, you'll see that it has been excessively engineered for maximum output and other goals, but at the expense of reliability. It'll run awesome for the lease term of 3 years, but after that when things start to break (VANOS, water pumps, heat management module) you'll be frequenting your local shop that is making a killing on all European makes. Ever wonder why there are BMW or Audi specialist shops? That's why.

    It it was between this and the rc350 I'd choose the Lexus, that car is absolutely gorgeous 😍. I currently have a 3.7L v6 infinity g37 and I love my baby but I have to admit I would not think twice about giving her up for a rc350.

    According to Infiniti themselves, the paddle shifters on the 2018 Q50 3.0t Sport and Red Sport 400 are magnesium alloy infinitinews.com/en-US/infiniti/usa/presskits/us-2018-infiniti-q50-press-kit perhaps they will do the same with the 2018 Q60.

    Hey Sofyan, with Genesis' replacement for the old Hyundai Genesis Coupe still completely under wraps, is there any particular short list of features you hope for it to have? Aside from the obvious power/performance.

    • @theredline
      @theredline  7 лет назад +2

      Gangrel115 We can't wait for Genesis to reveal that vehicle but it's still probably 2 years away. We'd like to see it offer AWD, come with the 2.0T and 3.3T engine options, and keep the manual transmission. The manual is probably not going to happen, but it would surprise us if it did. Obviously, this new version is going to be far more upmarket versus the old Genesis Coupe but that's okay, it needs to be. We'd like to see a starting price around $35,000.

      bro g35 has a way better engine then the newer models. That's why i refuse to sell mine. Yes the q60 may be fast but thats because it is turbo charged. The g35 spit 310 hp without any turbos. That's impressive.

  • @EasyTechTrading

    now if they can add the dual clutch transmission from GTR this car would definitely a seller.. the engine has a lot of potential, the infotainment system is ok, (needs a new update) reduce the turbo lag and add a launch control.. now you have a best sports car for a good price. #justsaying.

    Slight correction. Infinity also dropped the magnesium, column mounted paddles on the the latest Q50 Redsport. Dumb decision. I sent my complaints to corporate and they told me that they don't accept "unsolicited" advice, LOL!

    • @blexy350

      I thought it made sense to have them steering wheel mounted?

    • @chigasaki06
      @chigasaki06 7 лет назад

      VQ3713 column shifters replicate F1 race cars...those have them on the column. Some people may like it on the steering wheel. However, its not right in regard to replicating the sportiness of a race car. The demographic targeted in these new q's is different. They are targeting older drivers, not young ones. So it's less sport and more "luxury."

    The only thing I dnt like about the car is the very bottom portion of the front fascia. NISSAN is known to make the beginning of a new model look good but hold back a little then BOOM 3 years into the model they will redesign it and in my opinion make it look sharper and more focused.
