Great video, I’m working on my 68 cougar I’ve had since ‘93. I always enjoyed your videos you did with WCCC. Great to see another video on your cougar. Mine has a long ways to go to get to the stage yours is at.
@@toomars1301 That is a tough one! On old cars like this, sometimes the letters were etched into the plastic gauge lenses from the back, so you could theoretically re-do the white paint. But on newer cars, you'd have to recreate the graphics in Illustrator or similar, then find someone with a vinyl plotter (sign company?) to cut out the decals, or do a reverse version you can use as a stencil to paint. Since I see you have a Miata, there is a guy who makes those decals. I haven't tried them myself, but check it out: mofaraz.com
It’s not something they make, you are sending them an actual original radio and having it converted. So if you had an original AM/FM you could send that in and have it upgraded, and you’d have the benefit of being able to select AM or FM and use the tuner properly. But with how valuable those radios are, I don’t know that you’d want to modify one. Good question about the 8-track, I’m sure it could be converted, but am unsure how they would handle switching the input to play a tape. I’d ask Gary Tayman about that.
My thought was that if the car already had speakers because it originally had either an AM/FM or AM/8-Track unit if the existing radio could be used, even if some of the controls (like the AM/FM selector switch) perhaps no longer had any functionality. From your answer, it appears so. For me, it would be good enough if I could just slide an old 8 track cartridge in the slot for looks. I am just old enough to remember occasionally seeing factory stereo units in late 1960's Ford products when they were new, although they were sort of rare. Great video!
Ah gotcha. Yes I believe the AM/FM selector switch would still function as original. They retain as many original controls as possible and wire them to the new boards. I looked for a while for a good condition '68 AM/FM, which I would have gotten restored to original spec. But they are very hard to find now, and very expensive when they do surface. In the end, I'm very happy I went this other route as I now have better sound quality and more features. Thanks!

Thanks! It’s a long road for sure. Took me 8 years. My only advice in hindsight is not to get too hung up on perfection.
Nice to see your Cougar. Great choice for your radio replacement. Beautiful car, Andrew.
Thanks Conan!
Great job. That car is a beauty!
Thank you!
Excellent! Thanks for posting! One of my favorite cars!
Thanks; you have good taste!
A semi-related question…how would you go about replacing / refurbishing the small graphics that sometimes appear on radios/dashboards???

Thanks! Ordered an interior set for my ‘91
Ah shoot I'm late to the party! Another fantastic quality video!
Hah, thanks! Better late than never.
You rule. Keep it up!
Dang, thanks for this! I'll try to keep it up 🥲
Nice stealth radio
Thanks! I am definitely enjoying it so far.
Hey, Elvis Costello! Why have you replaced Andrew on the latter part of the video?
Ha! It definitely feels like a different identity.
Do they make a version with an AM/FM Stereo front? Or, an AM 8 Track front?
