Solo Brake Bleeding: The Genius and Stupidity of the Gunson Eezibleed
The product I'm testing in this video is almost really great. It's a device which allows you to bleed your vehicle's brakes (or hydraulic clutch) by yourself without any fancy shop equipment, aside from maybe a tire inflator. By hooking it up to a spare tire, you can use that air pressure to push old brake fluid and air bubbles through the system while you go around the car to crack open the bleeder screws. No pausing needed, no second person needed to pump the pedal - a really clever idea! It's called the Gunson Eezibleed.
It works great if one of the adapters in the kit fits your vehicle's brake (or clutch) fluid reservoir. I had a successful test on my Volvo 240. In the event that you n...

Mic'd Up: Porsche 911SC - 3.0L Flat 6 - Mountain Drive
Просмотров 2,9 тыс.4 месяца назад
As my time with this 1978 Porsche 911SC was almost up, I was able to sneak in this driving session up my favorite mountain road. With the steering column and shifter linkage sorted out (as seen in my last video), it was much more fun to drive. I rigged up some microphones around the car and 3 cameras to capture the drive and enjoy the sound of the unique 3.0-liter flat 6 air-cooled engine. That...
Much better! Fixing the sloppy steering & shifter on a 911SC.
Просмотров 9 тыс.4 месяца назад
In my last video, I drove a Porsche 911 for the first time and gave my initial impressions of what it was like. The specific car that I got the opportunity to borrow was a 1978 911SC, and while it was very cool to drive an air-cooled 911, it had some issues. The things that spoiled the experience the most were the wobbly steering column and loose shifter. See that video here if you missed it: r...
I think I like my Miata better... first impressions driving an air-cooled Porsche 911 SC
Просмотров 29 тыс.5 месяцев назад
This is my real first experience with a Porsche 911 of any generation. I've always been a bit cynical about them from afar, but naturally intrigued by their huge popularity among car enthusiasts. There must be a reason, right? So I jumped at the chance to experience one for myself when it came up. This particular car is a 1978 Porsche 911SC. It has a air-cooled 3.0 liter 6-cylinder boxer engine...

Halogen or LED? Headlight Bulb Battle - Flosser Rally vs. Auxito Q16

Let's face it, old cars don't have the brightest headlights. The struggle is made worse when you share the road with modern cars with crazy-bright LED headlights. So if you want to upgrade the headlights in your older car, like my 1992 Volvo 240 wagon, what's the best way to go? Higher output halogen bulbs with relays, or modern LED bulbs? That's what I try to find out in this video. It's a que...
Fixing all the broken interior plastics in my daily-driven Volvo 240!

My 1992 Volvo 240 wagon is a trusty old steed. It's my daily driver with over 300k miles. Considering the age and mileage, it's in good shape! In this video, I replace the broken / missing front door pockets, the center console and cubby, and even one of the HT-204 front speaker mounting brackets & grilles. During the...

Cougar Dash Surgery - Clock & Speaker Install - Don't Break Stuff!

After my last video, which involved installing an upgraded stereo in my classic 1968 Mercury Cougar, I was bummed out that my "new-a-few-years-ago" dash speaker was already blown. As much as I enjoy listening to the rumble of my 1968 Mercury Cougar's engine, sometimes I want to listen to actual music. My original Philco AM radio looked the part, but didn't work. Upgrading my Miata's Front Brakes & Hubs for Aesthetic Reasons
Просмотров 2 тыс.Год назад
There wasn't really anything wrong with my brakes. But they were kinda ugly. Therefore, I embarked on a quest to replace, clean up, and paint everything you can see behind the front wheels, because my new shiny wheels were let down by the old crusty calipers. But given that my Miata is a 1991 NA with over 140k miles, some of these things were probably due to be replaced anyway, like the wheel h...

    I really enjoyed all 3 videos. Your comments in the first one on driving impressions had me laughing out loud at times! Great sound on this one and nice finale here. Hey, I'd say it's time you try the 964 & 993 - both contemporaries to your Miata!

  • @panzer-head
    @panzer-head 7 дней назад

    With any vintage Porsche, and yes, the 911SC now qualifies as "vintage", you have to be prepared to put up with things don't exist with other cars. The sloppy steering wheel and shifter are problems, and you've corrected them. However, it would be more accurate to rate a 911 model that is a contemporary to your Miata. If yours is a 90s era Miata, then the 964/993 model would be more appropriate. Based on your views, I'd say you're a 993 guy through and through. The 993 is the easiest to drive, the quietest and most comfortable of the air-cooled era, and it has working A/C. IMHO, it's the nicest air cooled 911 to own, too. Of course, there are maintenance issues with any car, and 911s can be very expensive. But it's by far the most rewarding car I have ever owned.

    “….months go by.” Try DECADES! 😂🤯🤬🫠 Of the WAY TOO DANG MANY restoration projects I’ve taken on, mostly for customers, of those that were for my own classic, vintage or, antique vehicles I’ve owned over the past 4+ decades, as for “restoring” those, was more or less opted for “refurbishment”, over actual full-on “restoration”, as THAT process is SO MUCH MORE EXTENSIVE!!! That said, I’m currently in the process of just that, a full-on restoration, of a customers’ 1966 IH Scout 800. Even with as basic a vehicle as a vintage Scout is, parts-wise, still takes up 4 bays of SPACE for all parts involved! The two other techs, besides myself, are right near ready for complete reassembly of the whole vehicle.. waiting for body sheetmetal parts to finish being painted. I’ve been on the fence of whether or not to take on restoring all of its fasteners, zinc &/or anodized, per whatever the various bits & pieces were originally. Your hardwares’ finished result really does look great! I’ve always been a stickler for detail & do think such a step very much does grab folks’ eyes, when checking out a restored vehicle!!! P.S.: one of my past personally owned project cars, was a 1970 Opel GT 1900!!! Sold that one (regrettably now 😩) to a buyer that had it shipped back to Germany, for a full restoration!

    Hi Andrew, I love the drive through Hope Ranch, the only prettier site, than that SC, seen running though Hope Ranch is Kathy Ireland. As pointed out your base of comparison was a 14 year newer Miata. Just in those 14 years there was enough automotive advancement to make a base model Mazda feel lively in comparison, especially if you don’t know how to drive a 911. Thst said, It was nice to see you began to figure out that 3500 rpm is what the motor should drop to after you up shift no lower. After the car is warm you shouldn’t be below 3500, Your in town driving included. I will say you do get one thing automatically with a Miata you don’t get with a 911, a very colorful rainbow sticker for your bumper.

    I appreciate He Mentioned his height 6'4....more room than I thought in there.... (I'm a professional driver)...Miata is a good benchmark for how a front engined sports car should feel like... The further back the engine, the earlier you need to influence the vehicles center of gravity. All 4 brakes are in front of the engines weight, So the brake bias will be setup differently....So repair the car, then learn to drive..Late 70's produced VW rabbit, Mercedes 190E, updates to the Datsun Z... Don't t forget the world's Baddest rally car before all wheel drive, the non Americas Ford Escort!

      Hi! It does record a single file, but it's a stereo file, meaning left and right are totally separate (thanks to the breakout cable). That way you can split it afterwards in the edit as shown in the later part of the vid.

    • @AndrewDoesCarStuff
      @AndrewDoesCarStuff 27 дней назад

      Hi! Correct, the driveshaft (also known as prop shaft) does need to be shortened, and you also need the yoke from an Automatic car, as the splines on the Getrag output shaft are different from the old 4-speed. Or maybe the yoke from a 5-speed Manta B would work, I'm not positive if the driveshaft size is the same or not.
