Alot of money flows out of Africa in general due to loan payments, multinational corporations that profit more so off of the extraction of natural resources than the hosting nation, cheap and subsidized products that flood the market to the point local producers cannot reach economies of scale, climate change, and there's even more than that but I don't want to make this too long.

Owing to inappropriate land use, the original vegetation cover, especially in northern Somalia, has been heavily degraded and in various places even entirely destroyed. This progressive destruction of plant life also has impaired animal habitats and reduced forage, affecting not only Somalia’s greatest resource, its livestock (chiefly goats, sheep, camels, and cattle), but also the wildlife. There are still many species of wild animals throughout the country-especially in the far south: hyenas, foxes, leopards, lions, warthogs, ostriches, small antelopes, and a large variety of birds. Unfortunately, giraffes, zebras, oryx, hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, and, above all, elephants have been decimated (chiefly by ivory poachers). Measures to protect endangered species were taken with the creation of nature reserves and national parks, although those areas have been neglected since the collapse of the central government in 1991.
Somalians are such beautiful people. It hurts to see those kids cry in pain, i was up last night at the ER with my 2 year old that had a severe ear infection brought on by Covid, its emotionally drenching to see your child in pain... i can only imagine with these families are going through. its a real gut punch. i pray this ends soon.
I run to severe ear infections... although it's less painful now, my eardrum is now not healing back up. (Surprise ear pus. Whee!) Anyway, if you apply an ice pack to the little nook behind the earlobe (wrapped in a washcloth, 1 minute on, 1 minute off) using gentle pressure, it may help relieve pressure in the ear. If the kid will let you, b/c kid. But always go straight to the doctor anyway. I can attest, having infection buildup in one's ear is excruciating. Hope kiddo gets better fast. If they keep getting these, please go to an ear/nose/throat specialist.
@@grmpEqweer Thanks for the advice, this is probably his third time within a year, the doc said he may have to have a tube placed in his ear. He was in a tremendous amount of pain, ive never had an ear infection (that i can remember) so its reassuring to hear it from an adult.

The woman who was carrying her grand child for ten days while she herself is starving is amazingly tough. It is heartbreaking that we can watch this happening to her and her grand children but we can't part with any food.
I had Somalian kids as friends, when I was a child. They told me their stories about living in the middle of war and hunger. I’m very sad, that Somalia is still at the same point. Corruption, religious wars, criminals, people not having birth control… I get it, that the droughts are coming back more often, but it’s not that easy to explain. I hope there’s a way for these poor people out of this misery!
They probably wouldn't use birth control even if they had it. Besides, a minimally conscientious person who knows that any future kids they have will face a life of utter destitution and insecurity would find ways not to produce more kids even in the absence of contraceptives. Few people mired in horrible living conditions bother to refrain from reproduction because human beings are for the most part vile savages.
This not only due to climate change but due : a) lack of infrastructure planning. b) lack of investment in domestic agriculture c) Ethiopia damming Somalia's two biggest rivers d) Somalia does not import wheat from Ukraine (that is not an issue) How to fix this: If the UN wanted to help Somalia they could fund desalination plants (Somalia has the largest coast in Africa) Tell the UAE to stop playing God and stop Cloud Seeding Build Dams in the South of Somalia. Build Aquifers in the North and South and Somalia. This will save Somalia and save the west a lot of money I am sick of people blaming the west, the issue is with the NGO's (UN) who profit from this with their low-quality grain trade arbitrage and the low IQ Somali elite that foam at every drought as it = more money for them. Edit: *Somalia is not overpopulated lol anyone who has that idea should be worried, I myself will marry 12 times and give birth to 100+ children* *_Somalia used to have better water infrastructure 400 years ago during the Ajuran Empire, how down bad to we have to be to be worse after 400 years, very shameful_* -Pressure Ethiopia to release water from the dams along with Egypt and Sudan. -Ask for a transparent body to investigate corruption in the government (former Somali President Farmajo sold many state assets to the UAE and Turkey - Ports/ heavy Qatar influence still today) -Import technology from Singapore for vertical farming - more % yield -Import technology from Saudis/Israel (I dont care your opinion, my people are dying) for desalination -Sign an Oil deal with the US so they can tell the Arabs to stop funding extremists - Use blockchain tech to follow the Oil revenue and invest accordingly into infrastructure. It is shameful to see Somalis like this when we have stupid leaders and weak governance.... this is all that is required to solve Somalis issues. The free market - the companies that do this will make $ and then can export it to other places in the world as 'Climate Change gets worse) Or we will be begging again in a couple years. *Edit 2:* -Get all politicians to drop their US+EU passports (they use Somalia as a piggybank, with their children in the west so they never face the consequences. Somalis have made enough prayer we need to start building instead of waiting for God to help us, then he will provide more. This has to be the most despicable we have been in all our history. Because of Western imperialism and neo-colonialism. In order for there to be an excess of wealth and abundance of resources in developed Western nations, third world nations need to be in a perpetual state of unrest in order to be capitalistic ally exploited. This is why the world isn't solving this problem but we have the capacity to send people to the moon.
The thing is, it no longer surprises people when they hear about drought, war or diseases in Africa. Its become "normal" which is horrible but the sad reality. So many countries are in dire need of support, Yemen, Pakistan, Ukraine, Somalia and other places with drought, war and diseases. From a logical perspective with limited funds, who would want to support Somalia/Africa (where help is always needed and seem to have little effect) when Ukraine and Pakistan is also in need and where help potentially have a higher impact.
I wouldn’t look at it as an investment opportunity, but rather with empathy. There is a chain of events (especially from the West) that result in these injustices which we can put economic pressure on to change. Climate catastrophes are result of human activity that disproportionately affects people in the part of the world. We can’t throw our hands up and say, let’s just focus on Ukraine and Pakistan
@@duce392 Yeah so why does Vice showcase the suffering in Somalia, when the real issue is climate change? It is to trigger our brain centers for empathy. @Dracula's Traphouse "Places like this" weren't always like this, and a lot of the issues that Somalia and other African countries face were LARGELY created by the west; examples include colonialism, American intervention during the cold war (the USSR is also to blame here (that's how a lot of these groups got their weapons), and, last but not least, horribly drawn borders by colonizers, which put competing groups and different ethnic groups in the same countries (which ripped apart so many communities and families) so the reason we will "never have peace" is because of the west.

Whee!)
Anyway, if you apply an ice pack to the little nook behind the earlobe (wrapped in a washcloth, 1 minute on, 1 minute off) using gentle pressure, it may help relieve pressure in the ear. If the kid will let you, b/c kid.
But always go straight to the doctor anyway.
I can attest, having infection buildup in one's ear is excruciating. Hope kiddo gets better fast.

Few people mired in horrible living conditions bother to refrain from reproduction because human beings are for the most part vile savages.
that grandmother is an angel
This not only due to climate change but due :
a) lack of infrastructure planning.
b) lack of investment in domestic agriculture
c) Ethiopia damming Somalia's two biggest rivers
d) Somalia does not import wheat from Ukraine (that is not an issue)
How to fix this:
If the UN wanted to help Somalia they could fund desalination plants (Somalia has the largest coast in Africa)
Tell the UAE to stop playing God and stop Cloud Seeding
Build Dams in the South of Somalia.
Build Aquifers in the North and South and Somalia.
This will save Somalia and save the west a lot of money
I am sick of people blaming the west, the issue is with the NGO's (UN) who profit from this with their low-quality grain trade arbitrage and the low IQ Somali elite that foam at every drought as it = more money for them.
Edit:
*Somalia is not overpopulated lol anyone who has that idea should be worried, I myself will marry 12 times and give birth to 100+ children*
*_Somalia used to have better water infrastructure 400 years ago during the Ajuran Empire, how down bad to we have to be to be worse after 400 years, very shameful_*
-Pressure Ethiopia to release water from the dams along with Egypt and Sudan.
-Ask for a transparent body to investigate corruption in the government (former Somali President Farmajo sold many state assets to the UAE and Turkey - Ports/ heavy Qatar influence still today)
-Import technology from Singapore for vertical farming - more % yield
-Import technology from Saudis/Israel (I dont care your opinion, my people are dying) for desalination
-Sign an Oil deal with the US so they can tell the Arabs to stop funding extremists - Use blockchain tech to follow the Oil revenue and invest accordingly into infrastructure.
It is shameful to see Somalis like this when we have stupid leaders and weak governance.... this is all that is required to solve Somalis issues.

This stuff really reminds me of how blessed I really am.
There are enough dollars and hard resources spread throughout western countries wealthier folks to help all of the groups of people you mentioned.
@@duce392 Yeah so why does Vice showcase the suffering in Somalia, when the real issue is climate change? It is to trigger our brain centers for empathy. They could have used numbers and collections of data, but dying children is far more effective in that regard.
And you say this like we have unlimited money and ressources to help everyone, all the time which is not the case.
The US taxpayers fund terroristic activities in Somalia. Somalia is the testing grounds for the development of drones, directed energy weapons of mass destruction.
@@Michael-jq5pf Yes in theory that is the case. In theory we also know how to solve climate change, just emit less greenhouse gases, plant more trees, recycle, convert every energy source to reliable green energy etc. But reality is often far more complicated and nothing is as simple as it looks.

This is what a country looks like when it doesn't have infrastructure... These people need education. They need to be able to understand when it's time to just stop the nonsense quit fighting and allow countries that have already done it before to do it again
@Ahmed A2 if I don't know, tell me where I'm wrong?... The fighting needs to stop so AID can come in. Those people need to be willing to abandon that way of life and migrate closer to places that benefit them. I live in a desert. It gets to 125°F in the summer time here, we have experienced drought. We drill where water is left and pump it elsewhere, we harvest rain water into reservoirs, we use canals and large culvert systems to move water. We have infrastructure.... That region has lacked infrastructure for years. Sitting and waiting for someone else to fix your problem isn't going to solve it... They already have little, why not have little on more fertile land?...
Imagine carrying your children and your grandchildren on your back across a drought ridden war torn desert for 10 days praying you'll survive in time to reach a camp where theres hopefully food and water to feed your family. Just a nightmare. God help them. These people deserve so much better. And what scares me is knowing this is only going to get worse, for more people than just Somalians. The droughts are only going to get worse from here.
is vice also donating food/ water/ medical supplies/ creating foundations run by those within the community who are experiencing this first hand along with more in the U.S. who will for sure give it all to them…. on their own or just through other peoples donations
What ?
Dear Vice please post a link where we can donate funds that can directly go to these people & the doctors that are helping them
Meanwhile we have so much excess and so much waste here, we throw away so much. I wish there was a better way...nothing is a single issue. So no solution is easy. I cant imagine watching my children starve to death 😔
i can't imagine continuing to have kids i can't afford
