Ha! One of the few times Liz was actually right. You can't force someone to go to college -- waste of time and money. Somewhere down the road, Marianne would become a nurse -- but timing is everything. Love watching these old scenes when the Matthews family was still prominent. I think Pat was on of the few characters I recall actually running a vacuum cleaner. Don't see that these days!
OMG...so true and she was so professional and made sure I always was facing the camera. I didn't continue watching AW after I left. Probably because I was a little hurt they didn't renew my contract and also because I went on to ATWT as Melinda Gray (Spencer). I loved playing with my family members, especially Beverely Penberthy, Pat, my mom.
That's understandable you no longer watched after your contract was renewed, Ariane. I wouldn't either. It sounds like it was a harsh show to work on behind the scenes. Watching these clips of the golden years of AW are enjoyable (& its very rare to see 70s clips of the original Matthews- Randolph family, the only 70s clips that seem to have survived are of Mac & Rachel). However, AW seemed to have the most behind the scenes politics of any of the 70s soaps. 3 long term vets were sacked within a few months in 1975 (actors playing Mary Matthews & Steve & Alice Frame) in high profile axings. It sounded like a harsh regime with Producer Paul Rauch & headwriter Harding Lemay, and Lemay goes into details in his autobiography & is very scathing of many people. Therefore, while these clips are nostalgic and enjoyable to watch, it sounds like behind the scenes at the time it was a different story & not a nice place to work. This is what was reported, I'm not sure if it's true, Ariane - you were there at that time & are probably aware of the facts and how it really was. I'd be interested to hear your views.
@@arianatheearlydays767 Wow! Chalk it up to another bad decision AW made in the 1970s! They left too many good actors go -- and I think that's why the show kept losing viewers. Yes, it made it to the 90s, but centering the show around Mac and Rachel left them without a focus when Douglas Watson died.
Wow. Just when I think there is no possible retro videos left, this comes out the works. I saw Ariana Munker in video before but never did I see this actor who played as Michael Randolph.
Ariana: Very nice job in this scene with a couple of strong AW vets. What was it like to work with Irene Daily and Beverly Penberthy at a relatively young age?
@@arianatheearlydays767 / Glad to hear that. They are two of my favorites from the show, and it's good to know they were good mentors and colleagues. Irene was amazing. She could do cold, hard b*tch, bumbling goofball, well-meaning busybody, loyal friend or a heartrending grief scene and make it all work and look effortless.
Irene was amazing on stage. Saw her with Frank Langella in Strindberg's "The Father" after she was done at AW, and her big scene with him was heartbreaking. She was the original cast of "The Subject Was Roses" on Broadway and the only one not getting to do the film.
Another wonderful video. Thank you so much for sharing. I watched AW from 1964 when it began. I so enjoy these old episodes. Thank you.

He was great to work with as well as when Lionel Johnson replaced him.
Do you know the date of these clips?

@dennis my thoughts exactly, what an awesome surprise! Thank you so much Ariana!

Aunt Liz shortly after she lost Mac to Rachel
that's right!
@@arianatheearlydays767Aunt Liz was after Mac too ?? And in 1991 Aunt Liz's niece Olivia or who ever was after Sam Flower.
Miranda Bishop was after Mac as well.. 😂😂
@@MrCraigblaze Could have done plenty with that character. With Iris in Texas, Rachel needed another rival. Miranda was perfect.

They were both gems and always helped me be just a little better than before. Very professional.
