      That is all Steph. Can you imagine? Steph will probably make maybe $300-400 million in his entire NBA career in salary. Steph gifted Lacob 7 BILLION DOLLARS, 15 times what he spent!?

Same concept for Tim Duncan and the Spurs, Dwayne Wade and the Heat, LeBron and the Cavs and various other franchises after a major dynasty or even just the impact of a single championship and a few good years I.E Bucks before Giannis and Bucks currently.

    Most overlooked thing by owners and GM's is team chemistry/culture. Everyone looks at how a person's stats will counter others, how their defense/3 point shooting will help space the floor or make things hard for the opponent. The great dynasties have culture and a team that's played together for years. Bulls, Spurs, Lakers, GSW. Hell, even take it outside of basketball and look at those years of barcelona with messi, iniesta and xavi. culture wins championships, not pocketbook.

If they want to keep Kuminga, Moody, and Wiseman, they have Klay and Draymond’s deals expiring at exactly the right time to get that done. And who knows, at that point you may be able to bring those two back on significantly cheaper deals as well. They have worked the cap to perfection to set themselves up for a long time.

      Besides that, teams will pay more a player who can carry them even if it's not better than other players in superteams for example. Sometimes your only star will get more than a teams 3rd star even if both win equally or it the other is actually more valuble. And another thing is the pro name. If you playing like 10 years in the league and you are a star even if you didn't win a chip or mvp - fmvp award will get more than "a 2 years in" player with a chip or even mvp. Cause its fact that the long that you are playing the more your contract grows. But what you said its the rule, not going to argue that, just naming some exceptions to make it more clear.

    Fascinating and really well explained video, especially the charts. Honestly it's bullet proof imo. I want to mention for some folks that the Warriors main owner Lacob, is like bottom 5 in wealth for NBA owners. So as explained you can't buy a championship, but you can pay the people that made your team worth billions after you bought it for a few hundred million, and pay them well. Steph is worth it as well as my other boys

Three home-grown All Stars plus Wiggins an All Star because he's on the team. Look at the Nets, look at the results. These guys have earned their contracts and ,yes, they are being punished for smart draft picks and putting together a team first ethos that has not been matched for a while.

    Its a tough situation that the warriors are in rightnow, i think the amount of salary that the big 5 five get is reasonable. Andrew Wiggins is considered underpaid for his performance, Jordan Pooles contract had to be higher than Herro‘s ( as he is the more talented player). Klay‘s contract is still from his pre-injury years( he will prob take a big pay cut) and draymonds contract is also expiring. The Warriors almost drafted all their players, not their fault that they are all good.

    • @BOnYTB
      @BOnYTB Год назад +4

      The salary cap and CBA with the extension rules is already setup to where this isn’t even really possible. There’s a reason you don’t see huge free agency periods anymore with absolute superstars becoming UFA and shopping around and changing teams. The money is SOOOO huge to stay with your team it is just too big of an incentive to stay. You can’t buy a Steph Curry or a Giannis or a Luka etc. You have to draft them. Even the second tier guys like a Zach LaVine. He wasn’t going to leave CHI this summer because they could pay him WAY more money than anyone else, and obviously they did.
      The only way really is to trade for a disgruntled star, and even that is tough. KD wanted out but he’s too good and he is under contract because of course he took the max with BKN. You can maybe trade for a Harden if he really makes a stink and has baggage, maybe can get a Kyrie bc he has baggage. But you’re not buying a Steph or Giannis or Luka.
      The whole being able to buy wins thing is a farce. You need to be able to start well and make savvy moves as a front office to even put yourself in position to have amazing players to pay.
      Jimmy did this video because the NBA is proposing an ACTUAL hard cap. There already a hard cap you can trigger by using the full MLE, BAE, doing a sign and trade blah blah. But I’m talking an actual number you cannot pass no matter what. The NBA basically is saying it’s not fair GSW and teams like LAC can afford to pay so much in luxury tax and they need to be limited or there won’t be any parity.
      They’re dead wrong and there’s some ulterior motive. Plus GSW has some of the least rich owners in the league. DEN is owned by a multi billionaire and is cutting corners (they rly didn’t have to move Monte Morris and they could really use him now, or some good backup PG) to pay less tax. Obviously GSW is in a good market and they make some of the highest revenue in the league…but they’re basically in the red anyway. Meanwhile non tax teams are getting $10, $15M checks bc they get 50% of the total tax penalties the tax teams pay.
      There are probably going to be 10 teams that end up paying the tax this season. Might be 9 but let’s use 10 for simplicity. They’re going to pay some obscene amount of luxury tax, let’s say $600M. 50% of that goes to the NBA. So there’s $300M left. The other $300M gets split between the 20 non tax paying teams. So those 20 teams will all receive a $15M check at the end of the year of pure profit.
      The NBA proposal is a joke, and it’s a pure non starter for the NBPA. Surely the NBA knows this. I think they’re using it as a bargaining chip. Like oh you guys won’t do this, well then at least do this (insert way less extreme thing that benefits the owners) bc that’s how bargaining works.

That distribution is statistically significant to a statistician. Spending a lot of money is often essential but NOT sufficient... its why we play the games.....
