For the record Mikan wanted the three point shot because it “will give smaller players a chance to score and open up the defense” he specifically wanted more people to have a role / opportunity in basketball so he made a rule that let people with skill sets other than his own carve out a niche. I just think that’s really cool
Mikan supporting the 3 point shot is like when a dad tells his kid, "ok, if you shoot it from behind this line, I'll give you an extra point", so the kid thinks he has a chance.
George Mikan was also the reason for the shot clock's existance. Teams could and sometimes would stall when they were going against him (not to mention his teams ran very, very slow themselves). So someone suggested the shot clock as a way to force a shot. How they got 24 seconds was dividing the game length by the number of shots they hoped would exist during a game.

The other HUGE Butterfly Effect that many have forgotten about was Nick Anderson's missing the 4 foul shots, that changed the fate of the Orlando-Houston series, helping undermine the Magic's confidence against the Rockets, eventually causing Shaq to leave O-Town and leave for LA...
Bro, the magic didn't lose that series because of Nick. Stop it. The Rockets were a much more experienced team, with an all time great big of their own. Shaq has said it himself, they were a young squad, and didn't have the discipline and maturity to grasp the magnitude of the situation. Shaq was hosting parties every finals game.
@@JonathanWaterbury there is no telling how the series would turn out and maybe the Rockets would have won anyway. But if Nick hits a couple of free throws the Magic win game 1 and aren't swept. That Magic team was young but very talented.
You might be too young to know this but Taco Bell held an actual PPV event putting Hakeem against Shaq in a one-on-one game. The Dream owned not only Shaq but David Robinson, Glenn Robinson, well let’s be honest here mostly all the Big Men in the league at that time. It took MJ retiring for that season and a half and the Bulls losing to Orlando in that second season for Hakeem to get his 2 rings he actually deserved and don’t forget he had the second best shooting guard in Clyde as his ultimate support as well. Barkley came to the team the season after the second Finals win. Then Pippen came after The Bulls second three peat and MJ’s second retirement. So yeah, you probably too young to get that part of it.

Add to the Heat drafting Wade, Michael Jordan longtime trainer Tim Grover received a call from Pat Riley, asking what he thought on D Wade and his intention to draft Chris Kaman. Tim Grover advised to draft D Wade, while Pat Riley argued that they need big man for their team. Which then Tim told Pat to play Wade at center. Those 2 are one of the greatest at what they are doing, and combined both knowledge give them one of the top SG of all time.
All this heat talk reminded me that the heat are really one of the most successful franchises ever when you adjust for length of existence. Like they've been around for only 34 years and have 3 chips and been contenders numerous other years. We all know how well the team is run and it shows
Riley just refuses to do long term tank; heck, it seems like he won’t even throw the remainder of a seemingly lost season these days. I often think it might hold them back from being true contenders but then they did almost win a ring just two years ago. Perhaps if instead of Bam and Dragic getting injured before the finals it had been AD or LeBron they could have actually won it, you never really know. This gonna reach 5 mil i REALLY liked this video and the concept of the butterfly affect and the mic audio quality and edits this was nice as hell! It kinda gave me chills too lol.
I live for this man's video love when he uploads
This was an amazing video my G! Literally took me back in time! Thanks for this, THE NBA SHOULD HIRE YOU!!
This was an absolute great documentary thank you I learned a lot and I hope you continue to do this more often peace
That moment when Jxmy says “hope you all enjoyed” like there’s any chance that we wouldn’t lol
Hey bro I just wanted t say the amount of research and time you spend on these videos really pays off! I love your videos! Keep up the good work, so interesting. Go bulls
I don't usually comment on videos but this was one of the best I've seen,
keep killing it jimmy.
Man I think your series will once be recognised as the “National Geographic of basketball”. Great stuff, keep up.
It should be. Maybe a espn 30 for 30.
Thx for making this video it’s my favourite video of yours
Keep up the great work 😊🫶
The Anthony Carter story? I’m hyped you never fail to surprise me with these stories man🤞🏼
Your content is on another level man… I can only imagine how much work you put into this video.
I've seen your videos before occasionally, but this one got me subscribe. This is by far one of the top 3 RUclips videos I've ever had the immense pleasure of watching! Excellently put together, extremely well researched factual information, just amazing! Thank you for this. I truly appreciate your hard work.
This video was on a whole another level. Like from start to finish I was waiting for the next step of each butterfly effect.
Fun fact: Jimmy used to be a division 1 track player
How is this fun? More on the interesting side.
@@tgphantom1258 it's just a saying bruh, don't need to be so specific
ruclips.net/video/a8SoHzcAbpg/видео.html
“track player”
@@tuckisbad Ay bruh let em have this one 😂
one of your best ones yet. These videos are seriously better than documentaries on ESPN, TNT, whatever.
You should update the championship difficulty chart every year so we know pls 🥺 also let us have your personal opinion on the season
Hi JxmyHighroller! Watching from Philippines!
Jimmy,...thank you. Thank you for these videos. Every time I watch your videos im in love with your craft of storytelling. I don't even watch because of basketball at this point. I watch for all the knowledge that you have and only then do I love the game
This was just amazing no cap. Seriously i be amazed that major networks like ESPN and foxsports cant put out material like this. Honestly i cant think of a bad video you've done, if so it's been so long i don't remember but i doubt it.
This might just be the most amazing video on basketball that I have ever seen. Just brilliant. Amazing.
Wow this video was incredible and thank you George the moments we have gotten from the silly three point line are incredible
This sounds like something Secret Base would do a 3 part series on titled:
*"The one time a role player forgot to sign his contract and changed basketball forever"*
I’m so glad this channel is popping off. I’ve been subbed for a minute and you consistently make the best sports videos on the platform. Keep up the great work!
left me in awe my brother some of the best important NBA work you maybe have EVER did on social media
When you brought up George Mikan, I thought you were gonna mention how he almost signed Kareem to the ABA to play for his hometown New York Nets
Such amazing content. I’m just in shock of how great this was
What a cool and fun video. I get a strong Vsauce vibe from Jxmy, the way his theme is developed, presented and climaxes, and that's a compliment of the highest order.
You do the best video investigations, Jimmy! This was an incredible insight. Thank you.
This was amazing. Thank you for the great content you put out. It is greatly appreciated.
Dude wtf LaVert has ALWAYS been a beast. Injuries had derailed his early career but when he was the court he was ballin. Remember he also had a horrific nearly career ending injury while having a career year and we're all glad to see him bounce back strong!
Come on man
Dude was a fantasy regular in our league for years
Jimmy, you're definitely the GOAT.
Would love for you to do a video on the Dr J trade that had to happen to allow the Nets into the league. NBA at the time couldn't allow that nets team to come in and run through their teams because they didn't want to get embarrassed by a team from the ABA. If I remember correctly the Nets were forced to sell Irving to the 76ers who then became an NBA dynasty with Dr J at the helm
This is one of craziest Butterfly Effects in sports.
This reminds me of the awesome Trade Tree vids that Steve Dangle puts together for SportsNet in their NHL coverage. Awesome stuff!
just found this channel. the story telling and retention ability is top notch. this channel needs to be bigger.
Anyone else do the “Mikan Drill” in HS? Just layups pivoting from right to left hand lay up over and over.
Man for years! It actually trained our muscles to make layups easily, it was so locked in I still did it afterwards when I practiced solo lol
@@dozhadeville444 I still do that drill every game/open gym as one of my warm ups. You hate to see people miss put-back layups. This drill really helps.
Ayy my man George Mikan finally getting some respect I never knew about that three point line thing though thanks for that Jimmy great video
