You had me a steel core brother 🇺🇸

How can you not love steel core? I guess unless your range doesn't allow it, spoil sports.

From buying a case of it myself, I feel like not all have "New Primers". When I compare these rounds to some in my collection, the silver with blue ring primers look identical to my WWII ammo. Don't get me wrong I love this ammo and it works good in my FN-49. I just think while some are "remanufactured" others might just be really nice condition WWII surplus. I have heard rumors this stuff was Austrian Military Surplus which would make sense, with history, not to mention they would take good care of their stuff.

I have wondered that myself when comparing the primers. If some are original I'll say they're certainly very reliable for their age. The "remanufactured" part could be open to interpretation. Thanks for adding your perspective.

I have a review of this stuff too. I’ve shot a good amount more since then, and like you, I’ve always had good experiences personally. I’ve heard of rounds not extracting from friends, and I was out with a friend when a case ruptured.

When I was trying to look into why Fedarms is now FSAAP, I noticed a lot of people speaking badly of this ammunition even though they hadn't used it themselves. So I thought I'd do another video on it now that I've shoot so much of it. A ruptured case is concerning but it does happen occasionally. Fortunately I've not experienced it with this ammunition.

My ammo was bought thru auction on GB, bullet was described as being 197-198 grains but mine aren't they are 178-180 which im fairly certain the ammo I have is loaded with east german 8mm cases and used the S.M.E bullet (aka iron core for ease of materials) my ammo has also recracked a mauser stock on 1 of my rifles and may be starting a crack on another but that is to be found out later. Gonna reload some of these cases with a 40 grain charge most likely and see what they run, i'll also be checking my refrence book on SME german 8mm to see what muzzle velocity they decides on and might work towards that speed for "clone correct" ammo.

Got my ammo from auction, some function great other times no so much and my cases will stick to the point I need a mallet to get the bolt open. Gonna get this ammo directly from fed arms next time. Probably pull my ammo apart and see what the powder weights are.
Quick edit the headstamps on my cases are 59 70.

Being from an auction, I wonder when it was manufactured or remanufactured as it were. That's never a good experience when your bolt is that severely stuck. If you do pick some up directly from them in the future hopefully you don't encounter any problems so severe. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@Alloy211 not a problem, im more than likely going to get Romanian 8mm as well for comparison for bolt sticking and function. I would love to be shooting some OG german 8mm cases as well cause that's just a neat thing to be doing in my book. I must point out some people believe that the lack of inside laquer was the cause for powder to rust, imo its a combination one of factors the biggest is a 8mm cartridge collector book I have noting that it's believed the germans skipped a production process for checmially treating the powder which would prevent the powder rusting itself. Being that late in the war does make sense it was not suppose to last long at all.

@@jacksonthompson7099 At that point rounds down range was probably far more important than shelf life. Given the extent of "simplifications" they were taking at that point to produce arms, that may be the case with ammunition as well. I'd be interested to see how the Romanian functioned comparatively. As I go through this next 500 of the Fedarms we'll see if I encounter issues. If not than when available I'm certainly going to buy more. In the comments on another one of my videos on some Germany S.m.K ammunition someone mentioned that there was some primer issues, I believe, in that ammunition and it was produced prewar. Although I believe they rectified that issue going forward.

@@Alloy211 i've heard that about prewar ammunition as well, not just SMK rounds suffer from that issue it seems all pre war ammo suffers from primers issues, mainly dud primers or noticeable hang fires.

@@Alloy211 chapter 2 reduced lead ammunition S.M.E Patrone. Book is 7.92x57 Mauser ammunition for the collector Volume 1: German WWII second edition by Geremy M. Chubbuck
"An interesting note regarding some steel cased S.M.E rounds is the corrosiveness of the powder on the case. It is believed that the powder used in this loading was either not properly dried or not acid stabilized at the time of manufacture. Over time, the powder attacks the steel casing, causing corrosion from the inside out. It is very common to encounter rusted and crumbling steel cased S.m.E. ammunition where the box itself shows no evidence of exposure to moisture. This phenomenon is not exclusive to S.M.E. as internal rusting can be occasionally be found in other steel cased rounds.

Great looking, fun to run your hands through but not really practical for taking to the range.

It was nice but at this time if you go to their website there's a notification about an on going lawsuit that may see this ammunition go away. Which is unfortunate.
