We had bison in our campsite one night. Our neighbors were complaining that the bison were scaring their children, and the mother insisted that the rangers remove the bison ASAP. When the rangers said that couldn't be done, she became even more confrontational and argumentative lol. I've done Avalanche Peak on a whim, the day after a couple told me I may want to avoid it if I needed a slightly less rigorous hike. I saw a group of international park employees holding a sign saying "Avalanche Peak"... I couldn't help myself and I drove them to the trailhead and proceeded to hike with them. The going was slow, having my service dog helped, and despite how hard it kicked my rear and the fact that thunderclouds were threatening almost the entire time, it was an incredible experience. I would recommend this hike to anyone. Slough Creek is another great hike, as is Dunraven Pass. I have yet to try Electric Peak and Pelican. I'd also love to explore Specimen Ridge.

Barronette is the best in Yellowstone, it was the best hike up any mountain I have done. Maybe it was just the day. Super Sunshine. We did Mount Dana Yosemite on another perfect day. May 31st 10 inches of new snow. Probably 2 feet up top. We started Barronette in ice box canyon, went right up the ridge all the way. Bunches of Sierra Nevada. Wind River. Not much Beartooth but it is in the same locale. Electric is the top of the world on the other end but it ain't overlooking the tooth and across from other mountains.

What was the date of this hike? Going there in late June 2022 and wondering if I need cold weather gear.

@Chris P Hi, I'm coming here in late June as well and I plan to hike it.
Definitely bring a jacket and pants, once you gain elevation it'll get cold. I suggest being ready for walking through some snow.

@@TheJourneyest2016if I may lend some future advice. Please either have it ready to deploy from your belt or attached to your backpack front strap. A grizzly or black bear (a distant cousin in species) can sprint at 35 mph. If you are ever attacked and need to get the pack off and then dig to find the spray, it will most likely be too late.
