I don't think asking for a concession is the ugly thing, but WotC actually covering it is really awful. Same with Chapin's problem some PTs ago... This kind of things do not make for a good watching
Picture it like this; two countries in the world cup group stages are playing the final game of their group, one team is bottom of the group (Japan) and the other is third (Italy) only two points behind second place (a win is 3 points) It's getting close to the final whistle and the score is currently even, at this point it's clear that the game will end a draw and Italy will not progress to the top 16. Then with minutes left the Italian players begin to beg the Japanese to concede. "You can't make it through anyway, please give us this chance to go on and win the whole thing" they plead. Japan then decides to concede and hand the win to Italy Keep in mind that another team, carrying the hopes of a nation has just lost their place because of an agreement not skillful play What Mengucci did was disgusting, unsporting and selfish He should be ashamed
Idk just watching this now. I get it should have been a draw but come on. Its his teammate and friend and he pretty much had win in hand. People saying its pathetic is such bullshit. Where the fuck where you? Both these players worked hard to get there but no matter who won that game Mengucci was the only one who had a chance of making it. So why not allow the team some glory? So I'm guessing thats why he conceded.
Wow guys seriously, why aren't you showing the cards you're talking about? New Shadows Over Innistrad players have no clue what the cards on the board do unless you show them :/
Fyi, Japanese people do not appreciate all that affection all at once. Honourable man for conceding. Very respectable player, and an amazing match to watch unfold.
What a wholesome moment when Mori concedes to Andrea, epic asf. As a competitive player, i know how it feels to bubble because a friend didnt want to concede lol
He had his opponent beat on board. Asking for a concession like he did mat not have been that pretty, but he needed to get his point across quickly because judge called them on time and they either had to scoop them up and tie, which would have put neither of them in contention for top 8, or concede a spot to someone with better breakers and mengucci had the better breakers.
+Anthony Dominguez its not about the board they are teammates and I felt honestly cheated another guy out of top 8... it was a draw he couldnt of won with 5 more turns with that board
+Germany Smith He didn't "cheat" him out, he begged his teammate to concede and his teammate willingly did. There was no cheating. Also, if they had drew, more than likely, neither would have made the Top 8 that's why they were playing so fast. They knew a draw was equal to a loss in that scenario. Might as well concede to better board presence if you aren't going to get the W in the end anyway.
+thechanpionofyugioh Mori finally ends up with 18th, if he get a draw in Rd16 with Mengucci, i believe Mori will get into Top16, The diffience between USD$2500 and $5000 is not a small amount.....
What a disgusting and embarrassing moment at the end of Mengucci - Mori game. This should be absolutely prohibited. In situations like this, the judge should step in and just decide it is a draw. This match was basically decided by the fact that Mengucci as an Italian is more stubborn and passionate by nature than his Japanese 'friend'. Also, because of this, there is a guy who basically got his top 8 stolen from him by two teammembers.
+Jerome OfMarmite Mengucci had to win to get into the top 8. It would be a draw, so he begged to Mori (his teammate btw) if he could concede. He agreed, and therefore mengucci made it to the top 8.
+Lemur the Playmaker Stuff like this happens at a lot of PTs and nearly every GP. The only thing special about this one is that it happened on camera. It's not against the rules as long as there's no actual deal making involved, and from what happened it looked like Mengucci wouldn't have pushed for the concession if he hadn't had the win in hand. I honestly don't have much of a problem with this.
+Lemur the Playmaker You are allowed to intetionally draw or concede at *any* point, simply because it's pretty much impossible for judges to watch every table and make sure that people don't "accidently" draw/lose. It's not pretty - and in an ideal world, it wouldn't happen - but it is absolutely *legal* in terms of MtG and DCI rules.
It's not fair to the others who had to actually earn the wins to get where they were. This was a draw thus should not be concluded as a win to move forward. Somebody else deserved to move on. This is cheating!
+Jason Wallin This exact scenario is allowed by Wizards, so it's definetly not cheating. There were multiple judges listening to the whole conversation. Whether you like the rule of not is an entirely different point and Wizards would be to blame there, certainly not players who follow the rules. This is not uncommon at the PT, it happens nearly everytime the situation comes up, only that this one was on camera.
Man I don't get tired of watching Shota, he plays so fast and accurate, makes me feel envious. What a master.
Can't wait to see CFB's top 8 LSV top 8s
LSV is a beast. I think I would be spooked to have him across the table from me
but wouldnt you be like ooh i get to see what its like first hand
We've now seen the true weakness of the Goggles deck - Ob Nixilis' ultimate ! xD
I guess Mengucci owes Mori a playset of foil Jace's....
Go LSV

At 55:53, i dont think he could play both those creatures and activate lumbering falls. Duskwatch is dead from tragic arrogance.

Don't watch this if you don't know what's going on.

+thechanpionofyugioh did you mean Chye Yian Hsiang is Japanese? cause he is from Malaysia
No lie? My b then, I think they feel the same way about hugs though xD
+Aaron Westwood he's talking about the concession from Mori to Mengucci later in the video. Mori is Japanese.
^ he gets me. Thank you!

4:34 Spin the wheel, hahaha..
20:45 quality commentary brought to you by Marshall Sutcliffe.
So what's in standard anyways?
+Jesse Lukes Dragons of Tarkir all the way to Shadows over Innistrad.
Cleversided YAS, so happy, can play my allies
55:00
Wow. Is this Mori's redemption?
I'm willing to be the first to forgive.
1:55 Gaby super thirsty 😂
Seth didn't slow play. He just thought about his choices. Silly.
i am surprised at an event like this they let Mengucci get away with that.. Not the worse I've seen but pretty bad

+thechanpionofyugioh understandable but with a flipped Avacyn plus Jace he has a blocker so it could be a legit draw imo

Could you explain what happened exactly?
+Jerome OfMarmite Mengucci had to win to get into the top 8. It would be a draw, so he begged to Mori (his teammate btw) if he could concede. He agreed, and therefore mengucci made it to the top 8.
+Lemur the Playmaker Unless you know both those players I don't think you can accurately say that.
