Just a thought - a trick I used when going into semi-flooded mine adits - take a 5ft length of rebar with you to prod the ground under the water. It saved me from many nasty, unwanted swims and it can also be used to push debris out of the way.

This is pretty cool to see. Have you considered a diving dry-suit? They're similar to wet-suits but use body-clinging rubber or latex or the like to separate your skin from the water. Should be easier to move around and on top of that they'd come up to your neck so that if the water got really deep you wouldn't have to worry about the water pouring into the top of your waders.

Excellent video! Thanks for sharing. It's sad how they leave historic places of importance to the elements. From the looks of it, it may have flooded every time it rained.

This one and the 1st one on the top level is by far the best video I have seen of yours. I am from the US and I am not near anything like this although I am near an abandon subway system. Yr willingness to go the xtra mile for sake of exploration, curiosity as to what's around that next turn, regardless of what u must go dn, climb over, or navigate across to discover it, makes for some quality armchair adventures on this end. Comforting to know that, no matter how many times I say, "Ew!" out loud, u'll still show me where the funkiest of tunnels leads. Forts often had zig zag and confusing layouts as we learned that from fighting the raja in India where infiltrating enemy unable to work out the layout of a fort could be harried with comparative ease by quite a small force and many a time a successful breach would turn into a decimating rout simply because the layout was unknown. Some of the Indian's forts were nasty and gave Wellington more than just a headache and the "butcher's apron" earned a lot of its red just taking down the various provincial Indian princes redoubts which were some incredibly strong but built in mind of simple cannon at best, the British artillery utilising huge mortars and howitzers were merciless, combined with mines under glacis walls and Cliffe was built with that expertise in mind making it very hard to shell, almost impossible to mine yet allowed vast swathes of kill zones from the protected ramparts. Just the construction alone prob made the French think twice as all along the Thames were similar structures making it almost impossible for the French to land anything remotely near London or the South Coast and in between the forts would be the Deptford and Chatham built Channel Fleet frigates which the French feared more than our ship of the line, our frigates were our secret weapon.
