      @rotor13 2 года назад +25

      The problem with a flood car, even one thats been as well as this, is that they tend to have the absolute WORSE and untraceable issues to fix. Not only electrical connections, but the computers within the car itself short out or their joints corrode. And replacement parts for a new-ish car like this, are EXPENSIVE.
      The owner was right in parting it out and then crushing it. He probably got a nice little insurance payoff as a total loss, and make a nice profit selling the GOOD parts. Things like fenders, doors, glass etc etc, especially original OEM parts are almost invaluable. Especially the drivetrain

      I kid you not about a year ago I was down by a pretty much obscure river, a tinted suburban pulled up to the gravel path (keep in mind I’m fishing at the time) they were middle aged well kept men with black boxes with shells kept in foam inserts and they used those hand crank spiral hole digging tools and dropped some of the shells into the holes and some of them were thrown in the water and scattered across the sand/gravel/mud bank. They didint see me as I was tucked half into a hollow tree so I could lean on something. A few weeks later I was back down there and a film crew and a older man with sandals and a beard was describing how he located the shells and would extract them. Basically 99% sure half this stuff is made up.

    • @PetrolGator
      @PetrolGator 2 года назад +1

      Did some digging: it’s *very* hard to find Cambrian era shells in Nebraska. Those formations haven’t really been exposed by erosion. They’re likely freshwater shells, per replies to my comment.

    What serious damage can a flood do to a car to make it unusable? I'm not a car person but I wanna know 😳

    • @NinyoTafer
      @NinyoTafer 2 года назад +4

      Electronics. Modern cars run a lot of cables, computers, sensors, etc. everything sensible to corrosion and shorts caused by water in the wrong places. Often these cars could be “fixed” and would work for weeks, even months. But eventually problems will pop up. From small annoyances to potentially lethal issues. Since there are so many parts with potential issues everywhere, and some pretty weird, insurance companies won’t bother with them. Likewise, I don’t know if there are technicians or mechanics that would put a finger on one of those cars for similar reasons: the car becomes a bag of countless problems, extremely difficult to detect and fix.

    First, it was nice to see Brent in front of the camera, this time. Since this was a flood ravaged car, how much could actually be salvaged? You guys did a great job, as usual.

      @dumtree3727 2 года назад

      Depends on how deep it was in the water
      Seeing how bad the interior was, I don’t think there is much that can be saved and probably all the electronics are worthless

    Prep: Buy everything you know you will need in advance. That is full carpet, replacement seats (rear and front) Prep to remove steering wheel, dash, headliner -- basically strip out the entire interior of the car. You are not going to be able to save anything that is made of cloth or leather. If you tried, you would NEVER get that smell out. What you are actually smelling is airborne bacteria and mold spores which is very hazardous to your health.
    • I would dawn the hazmat suit and get the airhose out. I would blow everything off and out.
    • Start removing the panels and seats.
    • Remove headliner
    • Remove carpet.
    • pressurewash the entire car's interior after everything is out
    • Dry everything.
    • Leave it overnight in a warm enclosed area to make sure everything is dried and cleaned.
    • Clean ALL of the panels Most pieces will come apart -- make it easier on yourself and detach them and clean inside the crevasse, snap fitments and seals.
    • Install everything you uninstalled/replaced.

    Ask some of the big insurance companies if the vin number is on their list. From totaled flood cars. They are supposed to be forever out of service. If they find their way back on to the road, they pose a threat to everyone. The insurance companies have a responsibility to make sure that doesn't happen.

    I think there were sea shells in there because it doesn't have to be from a sea to have shells because even here in Minnesota where I am we have little sea shells in our pond just like that and it's just the leeches and snails that live in the pond that could've been pond water or lake water that the Subaru got flood damage from

    I own a 1990 Honda Accord LX and it’s been in 2 floods. Water up to the dash. I didn’t drive it for two weeks after the flood and it fired right up like nothing happened. I did however swap the seats because the original ones were ruined.
    Surprised this Subaru didn’t survive.

    I would buy it and use it as a shell to build a different car. Like to sti swap my wrx. And rebuild this one. I just hate scrapping cars makes me feel bad.
    I think I detailed a flood car last week cause the interior was extremely muddy lol or just a farm car.
    What I did is used a bucket of car soap and a wash mit and washed the interior then dried the soap off with a Microfiver and compressed air. 😄

    I would replace the whole wiring harness and ECU with same model and new one and double check mechanics and what required to replaced check sensors and take it for paint shop hit it with 50 to 58 c temperature before wiring everything so it would be fully dry without any components and then connect all wires and required components with new things and double check it with multiple computer check ... and it would be safe again to drive on roads ...

    Well... I mean you already know it by now but that "seashell" is a snail shell, and not to mention if it was flooded all bodies of water are connected in some way, it's not uncommon for floods to migrate things.

    Hi WD Detailing, Noah here from Texas. having been in the business of flipping cars, i can tell you that some cars get moved around from state to state in auctions. It may be that this car was originally from an area near a beach. best i could do to explain the seashell.
