Caleb - just wanted to express my gratitude for your work and effort your put in to these videos. No bs, no sugar coating or kowtowing to the manufacturers, and easily digestible content. One of my favourite reviewers for sure!
Here in The Netherlands I bought the Sony Bravia 8 a few months ago and here it comes with 2 remote controles, 1 with batteries and a differend lay-out, and the one you showed with a rechargeable battery/accu build in. I am absolutely pleased with the TV.
@averagestudent4358: I bought it online for 1799.- Euro. The best going price was at that moment 1999.- Euro, I asked for the special price they offered and got 200.- Euro off.
My B9 came with two remotes as well - one smaller with bluetooth input and USB-C charging port. The other one is a traditional one. I use the smaller one all the time, it's simple and clean, and it works from the entire apartment.
Caleb, I wanted to extend a compliment to you. Amidst the multitude of RUclips reviewers, many of whom are pretty skilled, you truly stand out with a journalistic approach. While I'm unfamiliar with your background, your experience communicating in front of the camera is clearly evident and sets you apart.
@ Sorta. In fact, Hollywood came to me. I lived in Vancouver, which in the 80s became known as “Hollywood North.” Retirement was for me a process, not an event. But it was pretty much all wrapped up by 2000. I’ve been sayin since then that, “I just got outta that business in time.”
Exactly a month after I got my Bravia 8 55", Caleb releases his review :D Tbh, I upgraded from a 10 year old LG LED TV, so it was a HUGE jump for me. But I'll still watch this video all the way through to see if there's anything I should know about settings etc, and will come back and edit this comment if I need to add something!
The lack of smooth gradation is ridiculous. This was present in prior mid-tier TVs. I don't want to hear rationalizations from an organization about why they're stripping out features in a TV that were present in prior iterations of said TV.
I owned 2 Bravia 8s. Loved the picture, but was plagued by sound issues immediately after receiving sw/fw updates. Despite help from an excellent Sony support guy over the course of almost a month, problems continued. External hookup is identical to the Sony the B8s replaced. Finally, B8s were returned and I bought the LG C4. Set it up identical to the B8 and have had zero issues since. The LG is my first non-Sony TV in 50 years.
@thundersprint2965 I do not know what LG has with Dolby Vision, but I had an old edge lit LG 120htz TV, but watching Dolby Vision? you could NOT see the lines from being edge lit at all, and the colors popped! I just recently bought the TCL QM7 to replace it, and I'm telling you, the LG still looked 3x better in Dolby Vision.
I too had this issue. The audio and video on the Bravia 8 wouldn’t stay synchronized, even when I was just using streaming services built in the tv and output sound via tv speakers. The worst part was that it was not consistent so I couldn’t just add an audio delay with my receiver and blanket fix the problem that way. Had Sony techs remote connect into the tv and they couldn’t fix it either. Had to return it and get the C4 as well for the Dolby vision. The only issue is that the video isn’t as nice on the lg as it was on the Sony so I am sad in that regard.
For sure. I see people in forums talk about how great the Bravia 7 and 9 are. And they are good. But clearly most of these people have never owned an OLED before. I've compared them and there is just no beating an OLED tv at the moment.
Yes, but only at same size.....a larger LCD impresses daily like Caleb told in a prior video. In my case, today with 100 inch LCD>85 inch LCD>77 inch GX OLED, would be great a 100 inch oled. Had the GX after the 85 and allways regreted that.
Yes, this is what I’ve been saying for years now. Still have an LG B7 55”, my first OLED, and the specs are not to different from a C2,3, or 4. Yes the new models are more refined and get a bit brighter, but not a night or day difference.
I've had Digital Trends videos playing on autoplay for the past few hours or so. Past few days actually due to the algorithm when researching TV's. And did not realize this was a new video until halfway in! Surprised you haven't reviewed this one yet. Are you gonna do a Samsung s90D as well?
When I transitioned from a 2008 HD TV to a 4K TV in 2024, the Bravia 8 was one of my possible picks. Everything was leaps ahead of the old HD TV I had, and all this was really overwhelming, to say the least. I held off until late October for a better deal on any TV, and in the end, I ended up buying the Sony A95L for a deal I'd never seen listed online, but I got it in-store by being at the right place on the right day and time. The Bravia 8 is a good-looking TV and way better than my old TV. I was just taken by what the other brands and models offered and, in the end, got what I thought fit my viewing needs, and it looks incredible.
Hi Caleb. Thanks for all the work you do. I really enjoy your videos. I learned a lot from you. I received a Bravia 8 as a replacement TV for my A80L that was having some sound issues. I was happy to see what this TV had in store because my A80L was the perfect TV for me. Everything played beautifully and everything was upscale to an incredible level. I’m one of the unlucky ones that received a Bravia 8 with some defects. One major one is if you’re watching any streaming apps from the internal operating system, especially RUclips, there will be a stutter. And it’s a bad one and it’s really annoying. Also a lot of digital noise on dark scenes. Sony’s engineers try to say that this is an Internet issue. Those of us, and there are many of us out there online talking about this, know, this is not the case. All my other TVs work perfectly and the one solution for this is to use an external streaming device. I purchased a Apple 4K device and once I started using it, everything played perfectly. Again, proving it is not the Internet and it’s a defect in this TV. Not everybody has this problem. We also bought a Bravia eight for the apartment in California And it’s fine. I really hope that enough people bring this to Sony‘s attention so they can do some kind of update that will fix this issue. Right now I really wanna just throw it in the garbage and start over with a different brand. Unfortunately all of my sound systems are Sony and I do like the acoustic center sink feature. I would be curious if you have a Bravia that you could try using the internal apps to see if you have the same issue. Like I said not everybody is having the same issue but a lot of us out there are. Thanks.
@@timowthienot everyone has this issue. We have two of them and only one has the issue. I also have some pretty bad digital noise too that cannot be eliminated. I’ve talked to a few other people on different sites and there are quite a few people that have this issue. It is absolutely not the Internet. Both my Roku and Apple TV play perfectly on the same TV. Just the internal apps are the problem
The word "enthusiast" itself implies those people aren't going to be leaning towards a mid-range OLED vs an established flag ship. If that were the intent, they could have just not spent the money to manufacture the 8 in the first place...
That kinda reminds me of the Hisense I got a few years back (U6HF). I thought the only difference between that and the U6H was the firetv instead of Google. But nope. The regular U6H had a more elaborate callibration settings mode. And the HF was very bare bones.
Even though we’ve basically got our tv’s set for the next 5-10 years, I still love these vids. Keep it up, they’re always informative and fun. Happy new year at CES, a show that I worked for years and still gives me nightmares. Yay. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Keep an eye on the audio/video synchronization. I had issues with two Bravia 8s that wouldn’t sync properly on some content… I’d hang on to the packaging for a month if I were you
I just got one to replace my Bravia 9 in my living room. I love my Bravia 9, but was missing some aspects of OLED. My Bravia 9 is going to be my game room TV, because I enjoy gaming much more on that TV. However, my Bravia 8 in my living room is BEAUTIFUL! I watched Gladiator II on it last night and it was a feast for the eyes. It also seems way brighter than I expected it would, and HDR really pops! In the store, to my eyes it actually looked better than the A95L. I know on paper it isn't, but to my eyes it's what looked better to me.
Gadiator II streaming was a feast for your eyes? and then your Bravia 8 was also better than the A95L, again, for your eyes? I suppose it's for your eyes only then....living in a vacuum.
Great Review, many thanks. One question for you: I just bought this Bravia8 55" (instead of the amazing A95L) as it will be placed in my bedroom -- where the lighting conditions are much less than of a living room. If it was aimed for the living room I would definitely go for the A95L. Do you agree?
Thanks Caleb for all of your reviews. Thanks to this channel I have decided for LG G4 month ago and I am overjoyed with decision. All the best wishes in 2025. to you Caleb and your crew, and to all of your Subscribers! Health and happiness, all the rest will follow. Peace!!!
Great review, I’m glad I ended up with the A80L instead. It’ll be interesting to see if they fixed the EOTF issue with the latest firmware update for the Bravia 8. Maybe worth checking out if you still have the set?
Caleb - Great Review.! The Bravia 8 has been beat up in 2024. Yours was the first truly comprehensive review that sought to ask, “why Sony, why?” I absolutely agree. For the whole of the year after calibrating my first Bravia 8 I have classified this model to my clients as “Sony’s Lifestyle TV.” It seems to me Sony sought to produce a TV in this price range with more Boom 💥 and Sizzle 🔥giving its customers a punchier experience. Personally, as a dealer I have steered clients to the Samsung S90D. In the 55” and above size range you get all of the QDOLED goodness 🤩📺 with none of the WOLED drawbacks, 4 2.1 ports and all for less $dollars$ than the Bravia 8. Sure there’s no DOLBY VISION, but there is HDR10+ which isn’t too shabby and even though the Video Processing isn’t on Par with Sony when it comes to low bit rate / low res content, with 4k content it’s gorgeous. Really looking forward to your CES coverage. Thank you for all of your work in 2024. Cheers 🍻
@ Great question. Absolutely, The A80L “was” an exceptional Display in its day. Good Pre-Calibration White Balance accuracy. Exceptional PQEOTF tracking, and approaching reference reflection handling and viewing angle. However it’s still a WOLED, color volume, saturation etc. cannot compete. Not to mention the A80l in my opinion (unless) you’re in a dark room should not be considered if HDR/Dolby Vision content is of importance. It maxes out in the 600NIT range. The S90D nearly doubles this figure, being it can reach nearly 1200 Nits for modest periods. Lastly, as good as the A80L‘s reflection handling and viewing angle are, they’re not in the realm of the S90D. Reflection handling is a result of technological improvement over time and the viewing angle improvement is simply inherent in the simplicity of the design of QDOLED. They’re viewing angles are stellar.
I spent months trying to sell myself on the Sony. I have had a string of Bravias and I tried to find the edge to get the 8 since I wanted Oled... Long story short, I ended up with a C4. My gaming and movie needs were well catered for on the C4. The menu and control on the C4 takes some getting used to.
Not so far. But maybe a software update could fix that. Would be an awesome feature, but they probably want to encourage Sony product purchases (not to mention avoid all the service calls from customers with other soundbars). In the meantime I wish they had an Off setting for the TV speakers to prevent them from occasionally taking over.
No and it will not in the future because they aren't the same company. They will need to synchronize to prevent audio delay. Samsung and LG have this feature with their proprietary soundbar.
Caleb, looking to upgrade from a Sony 950G. Will the Bravia 8 have enough of an HDR impact? Did you see dimming during bright programming like say hockey?
(Watch you on my 120" UST setup, which is just a casual thing now. And didn't cost an arm and a leg. The future is here if not exactly that pictured in "2001"...)
Caleb, I own the Sony A80J 77” that’s a couple years old and am wondering if it’s time to upgrade/update? I am a cinephile and primarily watch films. My surround is the Sony HT-A7000 with SA-SW5 sub and SA-RS5 surrounds. We love the center channel tv audio boost. Help!
@warpathh Nope. Have an a80j / had the a80L and s90c. Kept the s90c QDOLED. The a80L was not a big upgrade - the s90c was/is a nice upgrade for HDR content.
WORD OF WARNING TO PROSPECTIVE SONY BUYERS!!! My 9yo Vizio TV (I know, I know) just died . After watching this glowing review, I beat a path straight to the nearest Costco and bought the Sony Bravia 8. Great picture! Stunning!. TONS OF AUDIO PROBLEMS. 1) My old soundbar, which worked PERFECTLY with any TV connected to it for over a decade, had audio clipping issues when connected to the brand new Bravia 8. Plays sound for 5 seconds, then silence for 1 second, then sound for 5 seconds, then silence for 1 second, repeat, repeat, continuously. No Good. I've tried everything, changing HDMI cables, changing settings, doing a factory reset on the soundbar, doing a reset on the new TV, etc. I even contacted the manufacturer for a firmware update for the soundbar. None available. Nothing fixes the issue. I disconnected the soundbar and tried the TV's built-in speakers... 2) the built-in speakers crackle and buzz LOUDLY at random times. They usually put out correct sound, but the problem randomly returns, regardless of the media source, whether it's internet-based or played back from a local video or sound file on my PC. The built-in speakers sound surprisingly good compared to other modern big screen LED TVs I've heard, but they're still less than desireable, so I've ordered a digital audio optical cable to try to get my excellent soundbar going via a different connection method. Fingers crossed. I do not get the crackling/buzzing sound when listening to bluetooth headphones connected via my PC. Also, my new TV's settings are supposed to notify me of a software update whenever available. After having the TV for about a week, I manually checked for a software update anyways. An update was available (though the TV didn't notify me about that, as programmed) and I applied the update. It did not fix the problem. I've googled around and learned that many, many Sony Bravia customers are experiencing the same issues in recent months and Sony isn't fixing the problem. I've tried to contact Sony tech support, but I'm getting the runaround. So much for Sony being the go-to brand. Their website(s) won't even let me login to a years-old account to register the new TV and won't let me change my password or let me input a verification code to prove I am who I am to let me into my account to get any kind of help. I'm pretty disgusted with Sony right now and am starting to consider returning this POS to Costco. Next step is to contact Costco Tech Support. I hate LG products. I hate Samsung products. If Vizio didn't sell to Walmart, I'd be considering another Vizio right now. You've all been warned.
I have a 50" Bravia 3 in the bedroom, it used to be my living room TV, I have a 55" B 8 in the living room and I absolutely love it! Any movie or show that has HDR and the deep blacks of modern recordings are just amazing, I've never seen a screen that goes this black and when a movie goes to full white out, I watch a Lot of science fiction, it totally blasts and hurts my eyes. I love this TV and I wish I had bought it for the bedroom instead of the 3, but I barely watch TV in there unless I'm sick or in bad pain.
Happy New Year Caleb and digital trends! Can you do another review on the Bravia 9 since a lot of firmware updates have come since your first video. Cheers
Hi Caleb, Thanks for this review. I have been waiting for more coverage of this model. I bought the 77" Bravia 8 Costco model last week over Xmas. I am coming from a 65" A9G Master Series OLED that I have loved, and we needed a 2nd tv. I am a little frustrated with the interface being used to the Android OS. It is not as snappy. I am ok with the few negatives you pointed out because I just don't care for LG TVs after using my parents. So this Bravia 8 comes in significantly cheaper than the A95L or even Bravia 9. We will also be using it quite a bit off angle. Sad to see it not get the glowing review across the board with settings and PQ I was hoping for, but it seems very similar to my A9G so no complaints yet. Also have it hooked up to a newer Sony receiver so lots of synergy there. Thanks for publishing this though!
I would say they are very close. Almost negligible difference since it’s just my eyes, no equipment testing. I would say the bigger difference is my 65” makes less than ideal sources look a little better than blowing them up to 77”. I slightly prefer my A9G overall experience. Also the 77 size is nice but I’m wishing it was even bigger.
I just picked a s90d up from Costco yesterday for me it was between the Bravia 8 and s90d. Both were way better looking than the c4. The depth of the Bravia 8 was just gorgeous I loved it but the s90d just beat it in almost every way.. congratulations on your beautiful tv hope it lasts a long time and brings u lots of joy
Caleb, Appreciate you digging into the settings omissions. And even though you were able to get colors within the delta E spec, omission of the smooth gradation control is unacceptable, especially with lower quality content. Users should be able to choose the amount of color banding reduction vs detail preservation. I hope these omissions are not a sign of things to come for 2025 and beyond models.
Lg c9 got burn in towards the end of my extended warranty so I swapped for the Bravia 8, very happy with my decision so far. Way less color banding on the Sony regardless of the weird changes they’ve made to that setting. Considerable improvement to color and brightness in game mode over the lg. dropped the overly blue white point down a hair and everything looks awesome. Has a little green tint off angle on one side like is being reported on the c4’s (same panel) but I use it for gaming and movies in my small bedroom straight on. Currently gaming on ps5 pro but if I ever need more 2.1 ports I will just get a splitter. All and all would recommend for anyone with a similar use case. Update has created an audio issue with sound coming from hdmi ports…people have been reporting it I hope it gets patched soon.
“Dead on balls, that’s an industry term” 😂 Thanks for the review. Spot on. I bought this TV in November ‘24. I fit somewhere between super tech geek and someone who couldn’t care less. Very happy with my purchase. Works wonderfully with my Denon A/V receiver and Apple TV 4K. Do you have a video showing how to properly clean an OLED screen? Thanks
Am about to buy my first Oled tv and am sold on the Bravia 8 due to the sound quality amongst other things, my question is what’s the difference between the 2023 model and the 2024 model apart from the price tag ?
Man the ps5 pro was a huge disappointment for me. Didn’t even upgrade the cpu left the system bottlenecked. I was really impressed with the Bravia 8 tho for the price nice tv not the best for gaming but pretty darn good
Hi Caleb. Just curious with this and your other reviews pertaining to Oleds. How aggressive the ABL is on these panels? I watch hockey and the winter olympics are coming up. It would be good information to include. Love the reviews! Thank you for what you do.
Thank you. Bought the Bravia 8 on the back of this review and others: OLED because of the high viewing angles needed in my room and the contrast. Very pleased with the result: my last TV was the Panasonic Plasma, which still gives good service today. We were shocked by the 4k HDR RUclips content of panning landscapes. Satellite TV was good too, here in the UK, but with totally weird setup requirements (cable splitter to both inputs: wouldn't accept two cables in).
All the reviews seemed to compare the Bravia 7 to the Bravia 9 and I was wondering where the Bravia 8 was since price-wise it sits between the B7 and B9. Excellent review and now due to your comments near the end I am open to the LG C3. Decision time is in 3 months but until then it's research time for me.
I picked up the 65 inch LG G4 for just under 1500 Euros when they were running a special promo couple of months ago. I think nothing beats it at this price point. Hoping for another similar promo to pick up a second G4 XD
Don’t get a second G4 the G5 is gonna render the G4 obsolete. Pretty cool to have 1 mla before they arnt made again but the G5 is gonna blow the G4 away
in my country india the lg c4 costs 2400 usd and bravia 8 3500 usd for the 65 inch. I really like the sony's image processing but is the price difference worth it?
Next step is TV's where you can talk to it and point to specific areas where it's overblown or has no definition in the shadows and it will adjust that spot you point out in real time.
@@timowthie I mean it's your own living room so to me it's just an easier and more specific way of calibrating the tv. There's so many options for screen-wide changes, would be cool to see the TV understand how certain lighting conditions in specific areas of the TV should be interpreted based on the owners preferences
I noticed all these issues when I A-B’d the Bravia 8 against A95L, Bravia 7, A80L. This TV is not great for colour accuracy out of the box and the PQ tracking is also too dark. In addition on max brightness the TV is considerably less bright than the LG C4 and Samsung S90D. Sony is definitely up to something here!! And it’s not good. I suspect cost cutting and you can see it in the picture quality. If I was you and you wanted Sony traditional TV attributes I would get the A80L which has none of these issues and is cheaper or the Bravia 7 or 9 and ofcoarse you could also pony up and get the A95L. Either way this TV is well below par especially for the price. Sorry 😔 but that is the truth.
Agree about the "new" SONY lineup...it's simply weak across the board with the 2023 models ALL being better and cheaper. That's why I bought two A80Ls a few months ago. The "best buy" available now is the 77 inch A80L for about $2200 at Best Buy. That is a steal of a deal and anyone looking for a GREAT TV at a great price should buy one today.
I just got this tv 65" about a month and a half ago. I had a very old 2008 lg plasma. Amd the reason I went with the Sony over the LG was exactly like you said for the sound. And I very much like the Google set up and I don't have any game stations. HOW do I get the best picture out of it with put paying someone to calibrate it? I also have a fairly dark room so I did need the extra brightness of the LG. So far VERY Happy with it, I have put it on professional mode and shut off motion, that has already helped a LOT what else can just a guys who wants a great picture do.
Caleb, is there a special cable needed to use the "tv as center channel", i set this tv up with a Sony receiver using a 3.5 mm mono to bare wires and it did not work, ideas?
Bravia 7 has a smooth gradation setting and 20-point white balance so your argument that it's an enthusiast-only/professionals-only feature falls apart a bit. I would argue it's an anti-consumer *upsell* practice but that's just my cynical view of big corporations especially when they give lengthy PR responses and decline to answer certain questions.
So i am okay spending about $2500 to $3 k. Sit about 15 to ,20 ft away. Mostly watch movies and sports. Ice hockey etc. No gaming. Wd have a good quality TV stand. Will probably stick with that. Or do you recommend wall mount? If so why? What is the cost of wall mount ? Thanks
I always recommend people get an external streaming device. Performance is often better and you won't be limited by the TV's OS or remote. And with a soundbar/receiver the tv's speakers are no longer a consideration either. Then the focus can be solely on picture quality.
We had to get ours warranty replaced the first two week after delivery, their customer service was horrendous to work with. But we ended up getting a decent rep after so much back and forth with them. The new tv seems to be fine! But ours would loop and restart and never turn back on, it sometimes would not turn on, and the sound would cut out.
Yesterday I went to an electronics chain showroom floor and did a comparision between the LG G4, not the C4 mentioned here mind you, and the Bravia 8 both in 55". The G4 model was very impressive, but It seemed to be an easy purchase for the Bravia 8 for me. Strange I thought, as the G4 is the 'flagship' and the Bravia 8 is considered mid-tier.
Bravia 8 is more upper-midrange tier OLED. G4 is superior and considered a high end OLED because of the MLA panel and it doesn't have the flaws mentioned in this video. However the Bravia 8 would most likely have superior image processing and perhaps a more tasteful vivid mode (which is what's often used to demo TVs in store) compared to the G4. So it's not unthinkable you'd choose the Bravia 8, it could be considered 'high end' when it comes to TVs in general.
I waited for this review for soooo long! Great video. I just pulled the trigger on the 77 inch LG C4 yesterday. Just before this review came out. I really wanted the Sony Bravia 8 but unfortunatly where i live the bravia is just under 3500 euro and the c4 is on sale for 2600. I just dont think the bravia is 900 euro better than the c4. No one can justify the price difference. Like, the G4 is €3700. Why are sony pricing their tv's like this?
I'm glad you mentioned the screen is actually used as the speaker this time (you completely ignored this when reviewing the A95L). But can you explain why other manufacturers don't offer the same? LG were promising the same tech a few years ago but it never materialised - to me it's a massive plus to use the TV screen as the centre channel in a proper surround setup...
So I’ve had the Bravia 8 and A95L this last week, I had to return the Bravia because it had awful red tint on both sides of the screen in dark grey scenes it was weird so I exchanged for a A95L because I was curious and I can’t notice much of a difference other than it gets little brighter in some scenes other than that I honestly don’t notice much difference. I feel like I wasted $600 more on a A95L. Don’t get me wrong the A95L is great but I could have bought a new sound system or something with the savings.
Caleb....PLEASE 🙏🏿do a Hisense U9N (2024) Review, please sir. Me and a lot of my friends want to buy this TV in a very interested in it. And we want to know the difference between that and the U8 and QM8
I have a bright room with a window behind me. The B8's screens looks more like a black mirror than the B7. I would like to upgrade to OLED but i'm scared to have reflection issues.
Reflection handling on the B8 is worlds better than the B7.. I would know seeing as I returned the B7 for the B8 for that very reason. I also have a window right behind viewing area. Can hardly notice reflection unless REALLY looking for it in dark scenes.
How does it compare to the Samsung S90D? They're the same price on Amazon-give or take - as the Sony is discounted. In other words, The Sony Bravia 8 vs Samsung S90D vs LG C4 all 55 inch. They're all about the same price on Amazon at the moment.
In my opinion it's just little polish stuff. Tv menu nicer, upscaling better, sound better if you don't use a bar, Sony Bravia Core app actually quite cool and never gets talked about, and then little things like voice enhancement features that are much better than LG and Samsung. Generally I'd recommend the c4 for most people but the Sony does have its place I suppose.
@@TheFunnyDictator it's hard to tell sarcasm from MAGAbrain on internet. But a receiver negates the need for more than hdmi port. It has many inputs itself and it outputs to TV. Google it?
My daughter bought the LG and if she watches Netflix or Apple TV, it uses up her bandwidth and she has over 300 Mbps. She doesn’t have that problem streaming RUclips’s.
8:40 Sony doesn’t think the now nearly two year old A95L or the BRAVIA 9 are competitive with the BRAVIA 8’s picture quality so they’re handicapping it to move more of the more expensive units.
Lol, wut? Wouldn't they have just bumped the 8 up to the newest flagship instead? "Oh, we made this TV TOO GOOD, rather than making it our top tier model and pricing it accordingly, let's take the time and money to nerf the settings menu"
@SquawkBox13 if all else was equal, yes, but the profit margins on mini LED TVs are higher than on OLEDs. If they can push you to buy a more expensive BRAVIA 9 they benefit both from a higher price and greater margin. The A95 is an outlier-they’ve already invested in the design, engineering and manufacturing for it so they need to keep selling it until they hit their profit goal-or at least break even if they decide to abandon it. The next natural question is, “why make the BTAVIA 8 at all then?” The answer to that is some consumers are looking specifically for an OLED no matter what, so they keep an OLED in the line for those customers rather than losing a sale to LG. This is pretty standard market optimization, really.
Sony needs to concentrate on larger than 77” - 83” OLEDs. They need to start producing OLED panels in the 90+ inch range. Size is now king and many buyers will opt for a 98” TCL LED over a 77” or 83” OLED despite the OLED having a superior picture. Many enthusiasts will pay more money for the bigger OLED but not the smaller OLED when they can get a bigger TCL or Hisense LED TV. My next TV will be a 90-98” Sony OLED.
I know that deep calibration settings on a TV make me feel like I'm failing at setting my display up correctly. It gives me anxiety because I don't know how to set them properly
Meh this year the Bravia 8 has really flunked it over comp this year especially with its higher price tag, the least brightest out of lg and Samsung, darker than reference so dark scenes basically crushing majority of the detail in scenes
yeah, U are RIGHT ON THAT ONE. IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO US, PREFERENCE U SAID SOME TIME AGO. ON THAT NOTE, THANK U. HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE TO U TOO, truth be told

Online or store? Also how much Euros?
@averagestudent4358: I bought it online for 1799.- Euro. The best going price was at that moment 1999.- Euro, I asked for the special price they offered and got 200.- Euro off.
My B9 came with two remotes as well - one smaller with bluetooth input and USB-C charging port. The other one is a traditional one. I use the smaller one all the time, it's simple and clean, and it works from the entire apartment.
Same for my Bravia 7, came with two remotes here in NL. It’s a 75”, if that matters at all.
@@lopeetoom01 Same here in Cyprus
Caleb, I wanted to extend a compliment to you. Amidst the multitude of RUclips reviewers, many of whom are pretty skilled, you truly stand out with a journalistic approach. While I'm unfamiliar with your background, your experience communicating in front of the camera is clearly evident and sets you apart.
Hear hear
I'm a retired cinematographer with Hollywood credits. I got the 65" Bravia 8 last summer ('24) and I'm still gobsmacked at the image.
What did you use for professional monitors? Sounds like you had a very cool job!
Did you work on the film Bird on a wire? I went on IMDB lol
It’s one of my favorite films from back then!
@@petermclennan6781 I was also looking at the OLED soly Bravia and a75l
Did you get the heck out of Hollywood as soon as u retired ???!!!
@ Sorta. In fact, Hollywood came to me. I lived in Vancouver, which in the 80s became known as “Hollywood North.”
Retirement was for me a process, not an event.
OLED is oled
How's your tv doing? Is it good?
I’m not a nit-nerd but never skip ahead 😅
Me neither!😉
Same!
As someone who's currently saving up for their first OLED TV, I liked hearing the story of your friend enjoying their LG C3.
when in the video is that?
My LG C3 77” died 14 months after purchase. Buyer beware.
C4 has outstanding Dolby Vision as well. You made a good choice.
If you start with OLED TV your next buying standard on TV will be so hard
For sure. I see people in forums talk about how great the Bravia 7 and 9 are. And they are good. But clearly most of these people have never owned an OLED before. I've compared them and there is just no beating an OLED tv at the moment.
@@Icebergslim333By the end of the day, Bravia 9 is a LCD and still have every LCD's flaws
Yes, but only at same size.....a larger LCD impresses daily like Caleb told in a prior video. In my case, today with 100 inch LCD>85 inch LCD>77 inch GX OLED, would be great a 100 inch oled. Had the GX after the 85 and allways regreted that.
OLED is the best tv Ive ever own. Love my Sony A95K.
Been waiting for this video - thanks!
Thanks.
I dont have this issue with my bravia 8. You shouldnt have to buy an external device to make your tv work properly
Caleb - Come on, Sony crippled the adjustability to drive enthusiasts to higher end models.
Bingo!
Maybe? Who knows. It's not like Caleb could say that without hard proof, even if he wanted to.
The word "enthusiast" itself implies those people aren't going to be leaning towards a mid-range OLED vs an established flag ship. If that were the intent, they could have just not spent the money to manufacture the 8 in the first place...
Then they need the higher end models in bigger screen sizes
That kinda reminds me of the Hisense I got a few years back (U6HF). I thought the only difference between that and the U6H was the firetv instead of Google. But nope. The regular U6H had a more elaborate callibration settings mode. And the HF was very bare bones.
Even though we’ve basically got our tv’s set for the next 5-10 years, I still love these vids. Keep it up, they’re always informative and fun. Happy new year at CES, a show that I worked for years and still gives me nightmares. Yay. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Bought a new 77" Bravia 8... beautiful picture. No complaints.
same here
Dim 💩
Keep an eye on the audio/video synchronization. I had issues with two Bravia 8s that wouldn’t sync properly on some content… I’d hang on to the packaging for a month if I were you
@@Ragingmetal1 I have not had any issue yet!!
Using Mini LED TV over OLED for gaming and doing the reverse for anything else and worse, in the living room. 🤡
Gadiator II streaming was a feast for your eyes? and then your Bravia 8 was also better than the A95L, again, for your eyes? I suppose it's for your eyes only then....living in a vacuum.

yeah, HAPPY NEW YEAR mate. compliments of the season, take care. truth be told
Happy New Year, everyone!
Given the less accurate EOTF at high luminance, would you recommend getting the A80L instead?
Happy New years to you Caleb and your awesome team.
Caleb - Great Review.!
The Bravia 8 has been beat up in 2024. Yours was the first truly comprehensive review that sought to ask, “why Sony, why?”
I absolutely agree. For the whole of the year after calibrating my first Bravia 8 I have classified this model to my clients as “Sony’s Lifestyle TV.”
It seems to me Sony sought to produce a TV in this price range with more Boom 💥 and Sizzle 🔥giving its customers a punchier experience.
Cheers 🍻
Would you recommend the Samsung S90D over a Sony A80L exclusively to stream movies and shows? Thanks!
@
Great question.
@@SENCORE_ISF I great, thanks for your input!
If you’d use non-Sony soundbar (Sonos/Harman Kardon)4:33 would the TV screen still work as a center channel?
Good question?
Thank you, Caleb. Always enjoy the vids. Happy New Year!
(Watch you on my 120" UST setup, which is just a casual thing now. And didn't cost an arm and a leg. The future is here if not exactly that pictured in "2001"...)
how is this vs the lg C8? I want to upgrade is this or is the a95l worth it taking money into factor.
Happy new year. 🎊
Great review Happy New Year 🎊
I have a 50" Bravia 3 in the bedroom, it used to be my living room TV, I have a 55" B 8 in the living room and I absolutely love it!
You think the B8 is bright? It’s one of the most Dim Oleds they make. The Bravia 3 is an overpriced turd tho
Happy New Year Caleb and digital trends! Can you do another review on the Bravia 9 since a lot of firmware updates have come since your first video. Cheers
I have the Bravia 8,but can’t find any best settings video anywhere.
Me either hopefully someone will post some soon.
Which one is brighter ? B8 or A9G ?
I hope these omissions are not a sign of things to come for 2025 and beyond models.
brought this TV based on your review!!! :)
thanks
the remote it came with is the rechargeable, backlighted version
How do you afford it
Lg c9 got burn in towards the end of my extended warranty so I swapped for the Bravia 8, very happy with my decision so far.
Any update on the sound issue?
“Dead on balls, that’s an industry term” 😂
Thanks for the review. Spot on. I bought this TV in November ‘24. I fit somewhere between super tech geek and someone who couldn’t care less. Very happy with my purchase. Works wonderfully with my Denon A/V receiver and Apple TV 4K. Do you have a video showing how to properly clean an OLED screen? Thanks
Happy New Year Caleb!
Am about to buy my first Oled tv and am sold on the Bravia 8 due to the sound quality amongst other things, my question is what’s the difference between the 2023 model and the 2024 model apart from the price tag ?
Ima Sony Pony 💜 Bravia 8 paired with Ps5 Pro I love it 🥰
Man the ps5 pro was a huge disappointment for me.
Hey Caleb 👋, mind sharing what TV you have in your home or for personal use? I'd like to think you have a favorite model.
Congratulations beautiful tv you got my friend
All the reviews seemed to compare the Bravia 7 to the Bravia 9 and I was wondering where the Bravia 8 was since price-wise it sits between the B7 and B9. Excellent review and now due to your comments near the end I am open to the LG C3. Decision time is in 3 months but until then it's research time for me.
Hi Caleb,
What hardware and software do you use for calibration? I would love a calibration series of videos for this Bravia 8! Subbed!
Thanks!
I think it's calman
I picked up the 65 inch LG G4 for just under 1500 Euros when they were running a special promo couple of months ago. I think nothing beats it at this price point. Hoping for another similar promo to pick up a second G4 XD
Don’t get a second G4 the G5 is gonna render the G4 obsolete. Pretty cool to have 1 mla before they arnt made again but the G5 is gonna blow the G4 away
Are the future remotes rechargeable via usb c?
in my country india the lg c4 costs 2400 usd and bravia 8 3500 usd for the 65 inch. I really like the sony's image processing but is the price difference worth it?
Would you consider reviewing govee products or any other ambient lighting systems?
Next step is TV's where you can talk to it and point to specific areas where it's overblown or has no definition in the shadows and it will adjust that spot you point out in real time.
That would be way to subjective tho
I'm not able to mount my TV and the C4
stand is too friggen low for my soundbar so Bravia 8 for me
With CES here, what do you think is in store for PHOLED and QDEL/NanoLED/QDLED announcements?
When will this tv go down in price?
Stereo mini cable
At least that’s what it says in my Sony Bravia quads manual
Bravia 7 has a smooth gradation setting and 20-point white balance so your argument that it's an enthusiast-only/professionals-only feature falls apart a bit. I would argue it's an anti-consumer *upsell* practice but that's just my cynical view of big corporations especially when they give lengthy PR responses and decline to answer certain questions.
Was wondering what your thoughts were on completing an automatic calibration on this model with the calman app?
So i am okay spending about $2500 to $3 k. Sit about 15 to ,20 ft away. Mostly watch movies and sports. Ice hockey etc. No gaming. Wd have a good quality TV stand. Will probably stick with that. Or do you recommend wall mount? If so why? What is the cost of wall mount ? Thanks
You should talk about how much the tv dims during sport please.
So what picture mode should a beginner have who doesn’t want to have it professionally calibrated on this tv?
Professional is the most accurate out of the box.
I always recommend people get an external streaming device. Performance is often better and you won't be limited by the TV's OS or remote. And with a soundbar/receiver the tv's speakers are no longer a consideration either. Then the focus can be solely on picture quality.
Were those projected backgrounds behind the TVs at that Sony event? Looks like it but hard to tell at the same time.
How does the x93L compare to the bravia 7?
Sony really isn’t worth the Sony tax anymore. Not sure it ever really was
I'm glad you mentioned the screen is actually used as the speaker this time (you completely ignored this when reviewing the A95L).
But can you explain why other manufacturers don't offer the same? LG were promising the same tech a few years ago but it never materialised - to me it's a massive plus to use the TV screen as the centre channel in a proper surround setup...
Doesnt add too much when you use ht-a9,speakers
So I’ve had the Bravia 8 and A95L this last week, I had to return the Bravia because it had awful red tint on both sides of the screen in dark grey scenes it was weird so I exchanged for a A95L because I was curious and I can’t notice much of a difference other than it gets little brighter in some scenes other than that I honestly don’t notice much difference. I feel like I wasted $600 more on a A95L. Don’t get me wrong the A95L is great but I could have bought a new sound system or something with the savings.
Probably notice it more if you have it calibrated
This Tv is phenomenal only issue is that the motion isn’t a smooth and clean as the LG panels.
Dead on balls = industry term. You had me laughing at that Caleb. Haha
This is A GREAT HONEST REVIEW Thank You
reason the settings are missing is to not cannibalize the more expensive models
Thanks. You are very professional. You mentioned Panasonic. Can you state the Panasonic model. It seems like they are back with a bang.
Bravia8 is the same price as LG GX in my country, ended up getting the GX, nice upgrade over my 2018 Sony A8F
How does it compare to the Samsung S90D? They're the same price on Amazon-give or take - as the Sony is discounted. In other words, The Sony Bravia 8 vs Samsung S90D vs LG C4 all 55 inch. They're all about the same price on Amazon at the moment.
Thank you for considering sony bravia 8 as a good oled tv , because I am already buy it for playing PS5 pro
But what is the added value of getting the BRAVIA 8 over a LG C4?
I don't see anything unique or interesting with the SONY.
@ezra4942
You're right, valid points. But HDR picture wise, I believe the C4 brings better performance.
Intergration with sony sound systems
Do better to choose LG C4 or Samsung S90D. Sony it's not worthy
Still to this day I cannot figure out why Sony screws over its consumers with only 2 hdmi 2.1 ports
Receivers.
@@arno8460What are they?
It's because they don't make their own hdmi chipset. And the only one who makes them is mediatek so they have no choise.
@@TheFunnyDictator it's hard to tell sarcasm from MAGAbrain on internet. But a receiver negates the need for more than hdmi port. It has many inputs itself and it outputs to TV. Google it?
@arno8460 What's a MAGAbrain?
My daughter bought the LG and if she watches Netflix or Apple TV, it uses up her bandwidth and she has over 300 Mbps. She doesn’t have that problem streaming RUclips’s.
Input lag in game mod?
Sony omitted settings to limit the tvs performance to segment it in its lineup. Nothing else to it.
The A95L is two years old?
@@scottsacalasorta? It was a 2023 model but it didn't release until like mid/late October of 2023
@SquawkBox13 if all else was equal, yes, but the profit margins on mini LED TVs are higher than on OLEDs.
@@scottsacala Almost.
My next TV will be a 90-98” Sony OLED.
sony doesn't produce oled panels. they use lg and Samsung
When will Sony make their remotes back lit. It’s beyond me in this day that they still don’t do that. 🤦🏻
At least Costco still offers them with their Sony TVs.
The top of the line models like the A95L come with a backlight remote 👌🏼
Bravia 8 has Backlight remote Just with black design
They do just in the premium displays
I bought the 77” Bravia 8 at Costco, it came with “Premium” backlit & rechargeable remote.
I know that deep calibration settings on a TV make me feel like I'm failing at setting my display up correctly. It gives me anxiety because I don't know how to set them properly
In Europe, Bravia 8 is 50% more than LG C4 and Samsung S90D
Even G4 and S95D is lot cheaper
Surprised after all the picture quality problems it’s still picked by Caleb over the C4…did I miss something?
I guess he mostly prefers google tv much more
Meh this year the Bravia 8 has really flunked it over comp this year especially with its higher price tag, the least brightest out of lg and Samsung, darker than reference so dark scenes basically crushing majority of the detail in scenes
yeah, U are RIGHT ON THAT ONE. IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO US, PREFERENCE U SAID SOME TIME AGO. ON THAT NOTE, THANK U. HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE TO U TOO, truth be told
Much better than the plasma we replaced it with.
