Love this image and hearing about what it means to you and why you took it. This is the kind of content that really interests me and why I enjoy your channel so much. Good to hear that the new book is coming along nicely, looking forward to it very much.

Thanks Kate yea I genuinely enjoy putting these together, even nicer when you have footage to colour the story.

Such a great composition and a great story. You have an incredible eye, and the added surreal touch of the long exposure feels otherworldly.

Great shot and my kind of thing too, well it's got the sea in it 🙂
Love the line with the markers, sorry, lollypops and the subtle colour.

I would definitely have turned off the road to shoot that too!!!! Gotta listen to that little voice in your gut - even if the picture doesn’t turn out super popular or fantastic you often end up having a lot of fun!

This picture appears on your 'Scenes from the Black Sand' which I purchased from your website on October last. It looks great beside beside the one with the three guys with the surf boards? and the people bathing In the sea 📷👍

Awesome image! It reminds of the title to Jay Maisel’s book ‘Light, Color, Gesture’. I think there are videos somewhere here on YT where he talks about it too. I think the lollipops have ‘gesture’ 😎

A great image; right up my street as well. Despite its minimal style, there is still a lot to see and enjoy. Looking forward to more vlogs about your prints.

One of the great things about minimalism is that there is still plenty to see, its just easier to see it.

Nice video again Paul. I really like the image. I normally lean towards B&W images. The image is very monochromatic with just a couple of small spots of colour. I can totally understand why your eye was drawn to the scene. You did well to see and capture it. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

The more I shoot the more I am enjoying colour. I think if you respect the subtleties of colour it can be very powerful in a "black & white" way.

I agree totally. I absolutely love B&W. And with colour it has to be in your face vibrancy, or very subtle colour. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍

I loved your early videos, and that moment you spotted those markers is a bit like the way I've found some of my favourite locations. I'm glad that you're revisiting the "print" series .... It's great to see what's involved in shots, and how they come about.

Good looking forward to the book 😀, noticed that you were using a hinged matt on one of your shots, do you use this routinely and also bottom weighted mat I like the look of that have done this myself

I’m usually prefer B&W, but I don’t think it would work in this photograph. Also, green and red complement each other. The size and angle of the front lollipop draw the eye right into the scene. Excellent work!

Hi Shawn, I rarely us it. I prefer to get my prints done professionally , PCL in Auckland do my printing.

So is this a double exposure then? If not how in the world are those lollipops so still vs. The long exposure?

    • @PaulCSmithPhotographer
      @PaulCSmithPhotographer  2 года назад

Hi Tim, this was one exposure. Yea I was actually thinking that while I was putting this together. Re watching the video reminded me how huge those winds were. Presuming the pops were well anchored into the sea bed. Looking closely at the markers you will see they are not tack sharp.
