No click bait, Paul. I've been a professional photographer for nearly forty years (now retired) and I still enjoy following over 300 photographers on RUclips, but your channel is the one I look forward to the most. No BS, down to earth and enjoyable. You could click bait us with a Box Brownie and we would still watch. Cheers from OZ.

Imho we can't understand photography without accepting that the fascination has a lot to do with the gear we use. It's expensive, complicated, heavy aso. Once someone asked if I really knew what all these buttons are for...

@@wilbertvandenberg3158 It was about my Nikon D200 🤣. I own analogue cameras but after using film for decades I hardly feel the need to use anything but digital, especially since film got insanely expensive.

Hey Paul, I have been admire the beauty of your videos for years. Thought I am helplessly distracted by loads of other interests , your channel has always remained on the top of my meaningful photography genre. What I like the most is the film-like video footages, the blue-greenish gray tones (ND filter maybe? ) and SC vintage lens effect (Black Pro-mist Filter ?), not to mention great sound tracks as always. I wish you may doing a episode on Video Taking gears and techniques. Thank you always

Thanks for acknowledging this Paul. The 'clickbait' titles (e.g. 'Leica') are what got me into your channel in the first place, but, paradoxically, they now make me sometimes hesitant to click on your videos - as I see 'clickbait' camera titles for what they are. You should just let your excellent photography and superb videography do the talking here.

Everything you've noted makes sense. The irony of course is that it is very obvious you have the talent to make wonderful images with any decent camera/lens combo. As I've noted before, you're not just a great photographer who happens to make RUclips videos, but also an excellent visual storyteller as can be seen in so many of your videos. In my book you are a step above the more popular RUclips personalities who also happen to be photographers.

Zero shame in what you said Paul - it's just a nasty fact of the internet. I discovered ages ago that photographers are not interested in photography - most are gear fiddlers, so they are more interested in collecting more gear than taking better photos. When I write a blot on my website, it can have stunning images and very interested content on insights into photography and how to increase getting paid gigs (facts from my own experience), but if there is no reference to a camera in the title, I get miserable hits on it. However, a similar missive with specific gear in the title (my Nikon Z6ii or my Fuji X-T3 for example), I literally get ten times the amount of hits. It's a sad fact, because I hate talking about gear, but I always have to somehow weave it into the blog and title, or else it is not worth wasting the time to write it.

I wouldn't switch to another camera to get traffic as my experience is more important than hits ( just as well ! )

Fine with you doing what you need to to grow the viewership, the long and the short is that you’re a great photographer with a nack of pulling in the viewer. A lot of other channels are using the same name drops in titles, but aren’t nearly as proficient, keep it up Paul!

Paul, I don't think there's anything wrong with including the cameras you use in your titles or in your videos. When you are going to all the effort that you do, to make your excellent videos, then if using specific cameras helps you to get exposure, then good luck to you. There is so much more to your videos than just the cameras. I also think cameras for many people, are an integral part of the enjoyment of photography. Another enjoyable video, thank you and keep up the great work.

Another on point video Paul C, chock full of cracking examples of your fine work. The click bait thing bring it on. I have an episode coming soon where after 40 odd years of wanting, I finally got my hands on a Leica, sadly, actually tragically, there won't be much bait very clickable with that camera as after just 14 days of ownership I killed the damn thing. Here's hoping my Insurance is up to the repair cost. Love that 'blad of yours and that location just stunning.

You start out saying that you got more views when you used the Leica and Hasselblad cameras and then you say that gear doesn't matter. Well, that is a very old trope in the photography game and to an extent you are right, gear doesn't matter until it does. When you can't achieve the image or vision you want because of the gear you are using or folks aren't watching your content when you use camera X rather than camera Z, gear does indeed matter. I'm 70 yrs old and have been making images of one sort or another since 1970 and while I've never had someone look at an image and ask why I used the Nikon F with the 50mm f1.4 instead of the Hasselblad with the the 80mm f2.8 I do know which one to use and why I want to use it. So you see gear does matter, just maybe not in the way most people think.

I don't care what camera you use it's your content that I'm interested in, but if you have to use your camera as click bate then do what you think is necessary to get the traffic. I don't watch gear videos for a reason.
