That armchair and tv - just awesome!
What an amazing place - a photographer’s paradise! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Beautiful. Actually nearly shed a tear watching this. The choice of music doesn't help.
It's just one of those days.
That chair & TV is chef's kiss Paul. Such a beautiful and nostalgic image.
Cheers mate
Great images, beautiful prints, your excitement is infectious. The colours from the M8 sensor are absolutely gorgeous.
Nice colour prints from the M8 - not surprised they are both already sold! Inspired me to get some of my pictures printed, thanks
Good on you!
love the chair with the old tv
Loved the shot of the arm chair and tv. Beautiful tonality and colours. 👏🏻
Thankyou
Those pictures remind me of some scenes in Twilight, it's really beautiful.
The TV and chair is beautiful - love them all.
Thank you!
My favourite is the TV and chair absolutely love the light
Thanks Alan
Great video & images especially the bike print in B&W 👍❤️ & the armchair & tv, just magic 👍👍👍👍👍😎
Thank you
Wow- these are amazing Paul. Of course the prints are sold out. Really inspiring me to go out and shoot. The M8 shots are awesome.
I really love that you show the process of making the photos, selecting and showing the final print. Fantastic work. Cheers.
Thanks Linford
Incredible Paul. Just incredible. Those colours are unreal. I saw the video of the cup and said m8! Fantastic prints
The close up shot of the cup before I show the pictures is actually a photo, the detail and tones are immense
@@PaulCSmithPhotographer super. Unreal colours and tones
Wow, Absolutely in love with the M8 photo of the couch. Every time I get the urge to upgrade From my M8 you always pull me back in haha!
Sorry about that mate lol 😁
Beautiful photography..
The 3 prints are stunning.
Thanks Simon
Wonderful stuff. Enjoyed it immensely.
Excellent video! I love photographing abandoned spaces as well, and you are inspiring me to print more of my images!
Paul, the M8 shot are Magic, so good, thank you for sharing
Thanks Kai
Wonderful photos!
Great video Paul, your lucky over there to have 'intact/preserved' places like this to visit; here in the UK, such places tend to get vandalised/set on fire relatively quickly. Great video and images, I particularly like the piano image at 4:34 and at 8:19, they look very 3 dimensional. The image at 09:43 is also excellent and your emotion when you reveal the print is palpable.
We get a bit of that here too. Fortunately this location is in the back country, so its not easily accessible.
Some really good stuff there, thanks for sharing.
I'm running through your videos and this one reminded me my Pen EE awaiting a bit of TLC and a strip down
This is fantastic.
Paul - you made me so homesick man - beautiful images! After all these years I've been able to book for a month at Xmas to come and see my old dad in Waipukurau. I grew up in Rotorua but have been in Aussie now for over 30 years. I'm so excited and will go nuts with my cameras when I get there. If there is any chance of a catch-up let me know. I'm going to borrow one of his cars and drive up through Taupo and Rotorua (near where you are I think), to see my sister in Tauranga. My cameras are going to be red-hot!
Really nice work…..
Just spend a day there on my own with my wife.. epic place. Thanks for the tip. Only used 28mm and 50mm.
Just wonderful Paul, I know what you mean about the printed result.
amazing photos!
I love the prints. The grain on the bike is gorgeous.
Nice place to explore. Loved the three prints. I liked the muted colour. Crikey, a friend of mine grew up in a house like that. More than anything, it's like a doorway to the past.
Another superb video Paul. Keep it up brother!
Thanks man
Great set of images Paul. Endean's Mill is a really cool place to spend time. I couldn't help but feel the history when I walked through there, having worked in a similar sawmill 40 odd years ago. Used to drive an old Bedford truck like the one there too. The house with the piano yielded one of my favorite images from my visit there as well, but the whole area has photographic treats everywhere.
Incredible. The textures and colors in those shots are amazing.
Thanks Mez
Some nice composition, and some subtle shadows.an interesting shoot !
Love the colours of the interior shots. Great location.
Cheers Tom
Great video & great prints…. as always! Thanks for taking us along on your latest outing!
Thanks Michael
You had me at abandoned , Steller work , loved how those prints turned out
Another fascinating video with some stunning images. Normally, I prefer BW but this time round it’s the colour images I like (so much) the best. The colour and tonality of them is beautiful.
Cheers, the M8 has really shown me another side recently, colours are just mind blowing.
@@PaulCSmithPhotographer Makes me even more pleased that I ditched the DSLR etc and got one. Did you use an IR Cut filter for these shots?
BTW you are going to drive me further into bankruptcy - I couldn’t resist and bought another of the prints. Decided they and the framing will be my Xmas present… to me!
@@PaulCSmithPhotographer Oh, and another thing I was wondering about; given how great the colours are looking on all these images could you maybe do a video on how you process them, if you had time. I bet quite a lot of us, especially. M8 and M9 owners would find that very interesting.
@@kronkite1530 Appreciate it very much!
The images were excellent !! Your vids of moments of exploring the place is sublime. It sinks in softly. Slowly takes the viewer in . No rush. There are many good photographers on RUclips but your art draws me in the most. Partly because it is also a gentle immersion, reflective . Thanks again . Take care
Thanks Izzy
Thank you. This is wonderful! I love old or derelict buildings and this was very inspiring. I have a Leica M8 and I hope I can take some photos nearly as good some day. Love the shots you printed.
Thanks David
Great stuff ! I too was taken by the shot at 7:15 .... Beautiful light and composition ..... Those prints look amazing !!! .... Cheers
Thanks Jon
A nice day out and a good selection of images. I like to see places like this and we have an abandoned island near me, I often visit it as my father's family are from there, I used to play in the houses as a kid and took a few shots when I first got into photography but now I feel like I'm trespassing.
Don't get me wrong I'm happy to explore abandoned farm houses not on the island but they just feel different and more personal. I know, I'm strange 🙂
Nice pictures Paul, it would be great if you mentioned the "Rules" for visiting a site like that. Biggest rule of all is to be respectful, ask permision if there is anyone to ask and not to touch or move or break or take anything, except your photos. When you leave, only leave behind a foot print or two. Need i say watch out for your safety!
Thanks for that
Great Video, thanks for sharing. I did past that site when I cycled the southern end of the local cycle way! beautiful images, did you have to get permission to photograph there? fantastic subject well captured! Love the image at 04:57 framed by the door an excellent image love it! wow the light in 06:48 is brilliant thanks for sharing
Beautiful work, Paul . I too, was torn between B&W or color for some of those images. But the color is wonderful. I just love photographing old , detoriating structures . Thanks. KB
Thanks Ken
I've shared this video with the Abandoned NZ facebook group. The Pye reference was a bonus...a reminder of the old days of import licensing and tarrifs - makes you think of the factories that must also have been abandoned when the economy was finally opened up in the 80's.
Yea good old PYE, the factory still stands in Waihi
Brilliant mate like I said in reply to
Your comment on my video Photography an incredible window to the past. Awesome place mate one I’ll look into cheers
Look me up if you do will take you over there
@@PaulCSmithPhotographer sounds good mate off south soon so catch up before crimbo unless we get locked up again 📷😂
Damn Paul…. So so good. You really make that Leica m8 work so well and the image at 7:15 is beautiful. Great work mate.
Thank you
Nice video
How cool is that .... wounder what happened their & why it was abandoned / some nice shots mate !
Hey mate, apparently when the industry went to Pine the business died
Insanely good images, Paul. I’m hoping to visit my in-laws in Arrowtown next year. I’ve been several times before but sadly without a photographer’s eye. Looking forward to shooting plenty of film over there.
Keep up the great work mate.
Thanks Rob all the best for your visit
Great job!!!! im coming to Auckland in early Dec for 4 days for a family wedding. First thing I did was look up how far away this spot is. Nobody will notice if I disappear for 6 hours during a wedding right?!?!?!? 😂😂😂 I agree the m8 is amazing. I’ve been doing infrared shooting with it and the images are otherworldly. Love to catch you if possible in Dec.
Look me up I will take you over there if you want
Nice shots, almost like they were taken with a Zorki 4K
😂
This is such a cool video. I really shared in the excitement you felt walking around that place, and seeing the images come back as prints. Exhilerating! I heard you mention in another video that you shoot the DNGs in the M8. Do you have any comments regarding the mono JPGs that the M8 produces, and how they might compare to your experience shooting black and white film?
Thank you Stu I really appreciate the kind words. In the past I have found the Jpeg files a bit "thin" quality wise depending on light. Flipping digital images to black and white seems to me to be a bit of a fake thing, not saying I don't do it, but I don't feel its a true way to shoot black and white. I think if you are going to embrace the restriction of monochrome you should go the whole way and shoot film. Then there is no turning back.
Well seen and captured. Love the use of the modern "classic" M8. Lovely prints. Bummed I missed the old chair and TV one. What paper did you use?
Great video, great images as usual, great subject. Is there a new book coming?
New book just released, cheers Peter
Greetings Paul. What Epson printer do you use for some of your prints.
Gorgeous photos Paul. Would you mind sharing your M8 settings?
Hi Richard I'm just shooting RAW only, however I have noticed a big difference using the M8 on a tripod.
@@PaulCSmithPhotographer Gentleman, thank you. I have thoroughly enjoyed your work over the years. We'll done
Great images, Paul. Which B&W film? If you said, I missed it.
Sorry forgot to mention but it was Ilford Delta 400 Pro, one of my favorites
Great M8 colors 👍🏻 what kind of paper do you use? Is it pearl?
Matt on a Ctype print
What camera do you shoot you videos with?
Mostly the Canon 200D
is this along forgotten highway?
Na mate its just outside a place called Benneydale, central North Island
@@PaulCSmithPhotographer found it, thanks. Will go there in February. Just booked a 4 1/2 month NZ ticket. Got 3 photography projects to work on while hanging with friends and searching for waves.
It’s not a roll of film is it ?
It isn’t a black and white negative !
Great video Paul...Love it! Very mystical place... If it was here in the USA, it would be full of graffiti, gutted, and collapsing. One very big thing about people in my country versus yours how they disrespect abandoned places in most of America. Your images were great! And great call on shooting some color with the M8!
Thanks mate, same problem here, only this place is in the back of nowhere, no people.
