    I don't know why the woman was disappointed in what she found, I was massively impressed. Instead of going against men and hating them irrationally they understand equality, the need to show their weaknesses and open up in a relationship, understanding their own feelings and mostly independence. Feminists who go to the extreme of hating men are blinded by their issues and don't realize how transparent their insecurities really are. Overall from what I have seen and understood the women of Asgarda seem to be heading in the right direction.

      Those kinds of women are not feminists. They're just female versions of the type of misogynist, sexist men they hate.

      Katie Dubbs I say feminism because a lot of modern women who claim to be "feminists," think men are under women. But I do see your point :D

      Michael Rotis They claim it, but just because someone claims to be something, doesn't make it so. I could tell you I am a 6'6 black man but that doesn't make it true. Or obvious.

    I was very impressed by that Asgarda founder/leader, what I liked most was that these women dont hate on men, they just dont like the sexist and abusive men, because those men are indeed weak! I am a man myself but I would not feel uncomfortable in any way not even for one second if I were in the company of all these women being the only guy present!
    Maybe thats because I got a clear conciense, and nothing to hide...and I only welcome and applaude strong women, and I want nothing more myself then equal rights for all women on every level, so I guess that makes me a feminist too! :)

    You cannot train a woman to defend herself (especially against a physically larger and stronger adversary) without training them to be a warrior for combat. She actually needs to be MORE skilled than her larger, stronger adversary. The Asgarda women strike me as having the attitude of "shieldmaidens". Stand behind or beside your man, and if necessary, over him. They didn't seem to hate men. The reporter did.

      When did I say anything about the reporter? I was replying to a comment about Americans making incorrect assumptions about Europe. I would explain in detail what I meant, but I'm guessing your American as well...so I'm going to take the "teach a man to fish" route and let you try and figure it out. Only way we are going to become the smartest people again.

    • @mtnvortex
      @mtnvortex 11 лет назад +3

      jwace
      Not that it really matters, but the reporter is the one who basically referred to the girls as villagers. Therefore, the ignorance is not solely propagated by the Tea Partiers. I am not a "Tea Party Terrorist", as you put it, but the Tea Party doesn't have anything to do with the kind of ignorance shown by this liberal reporter. I don't need to be taught how to "fish" for anything. You just missed my point, that's all. The biggest reason for "American ignorance" is the fact that people watch too much TV, and believe everything the media tells them. Also, for the OP, Milene Larrson is not American(she was born in Stockholm, Sweden) ...so apparently, the "American ignorance" is not limited to America.

    • @mtnvortex
      @mtnvortex 11 лет назад +2

      I try to keep myself well informed, and governed by TRUTH. So there's really no need to spoon feed me, or teach me to fish, in order to overcome my feeble-minded ignorance. Thanks for being so patient and understanding with my simple nature, though. I appreciate the condescension. ;-)

      RevolutionV12 They are Orthodox Christian. Period. I am surrounded by Orthodox Christian Ukrainian women back in Oregon and they are nothing like this at all. They stay at home and watch their soap operas and get their hair and nails done, while their husbands are out slaving away as truckers. I've seen it as I dropped my kid off for a play-day. All of these Christian denominations are deluded, the worst of them being Pentecostals and Orthodox Christians. Close-minded people are not attractive in my book. I know plenty of Western females who treat their men with respect and do not have to believe in something fake to fear behaving otherwise.

    • @Somnivers
      @Somnivers 9 лет назад +1

      Luther Elmingham Almost everyone in those countries is born an Orthodox Christian.Some people follow the religion , many don't.The fact that people say about themselves that they are Christian Orthodox doesn't mean anything, especially when they live in a different country.Many keep their religious rituals just as a souvenir of their own culture, trying to conserve something from it but they don't really follow the religious teachings.

  • @Horizonspace

    • @katiemarie090
      @katiemarie090 11 лет назад +3

      ... I'm sorry, what is your definition of equality? Because I'm pretty sure it actually means being equal. As in, being able to go to university, the ability to have a career, and NOT to just be a baby-maker who spends her days taking care of her husband.

    • @katiemarie090
      @katiemarie090 11 лет назад +3

      William Black Uh huh. That whole "in nature" reasoning is bullshit and you know it. Humans aren't like other animals where there is a difference between "in nature" and "in captivity". Also, there are countless animal species where the father cares for the children. Thousands of years ago, most tribal units raised the children in groups - meaning women AND men. And in some tribes, even some today, men are the primary caretakers of children; most notably the African Aka people.
      So... What was that you were saying about being reasonable?

    • @katiemarie090
      @katiemarie090 11 лет назад +2

      No, actually, unlike you I'm not pulling that out of my ass. The Aka tribe of Africa is the most famous of those tribes. But go on, keep thinking that way. We like it when men stay ignorant, makes it easier to take control of everything.

    • @blankdice8357

      Why are you so scared from women becoming "stronger" than men? Is your little fragile masculinity and your delusions of grandeur at risk you little incel? You can burn your book of "how to be a pathetic misogynist". No one wants that anyways. Take your patriarchy and burn that too.

    How is child birth a patriarchal goal, is that not a humanity goal? The Ukraine society doesn't look patriarchal at all from what I can tell in this video. A patriarchal society is one like Saudi Arabia, Ukraine seems to be nothing like that. How can women have some much power and it still be called a patriarchal society, it looks like it could be a matriarchal society but these women choose not to abuse their power so they make it a fair society: a society for humanity.

Or maybe you love women, as long as they don't do anything annoying like express themselves or try to accomplish something on their own, for their own personal reasons... or fucking drive. A woman is an individual who defines her own fucking role instead of having some fucking swinging dick douche telling her what to do.

    • @fatima4Allah
      @fatima4Allah 11 лет назад

      I accept your apology. I would like to point a few things out to you if I may. When I say women should follow their true role, this has nothing to do with man/men. Muslim women strive to please Allah (God) before ANYONE. This is why we dress the way we do. Not because Muslim men say we should, be because it is prescribed to us in the Quran. When you get it in your head that Muslim women must be oppressed by men because of the way we dress, think about Catholic nuns. Up to just a few years ago, they wore their habits (the traditional dress and head covering for Catholic nuns) They dressed the same way Muslim women do. Would you say that nuns were/are oppressed or is the first thing you think of when you see a nun is "wow, that women is really dedicated to God" Why is there such a difference. Think about any historical Christian, Catholic, Jewish art or paintings, and now think about how they are dressed. Just like Muslims..right? Now as far as women not being allowed to drive in certain areas of the world...That has nothing to do with being Muslim. That is a cultural issue, not a religious issue. If you ever look into Islam, I mean really look for yourself and not just go by what others tell you...you will find that Islam gave women a very, very high status, many many rights over men. Have you ever heard a Muslim woman saying she was oppressed by Islam? No. You hear white (sorry, please don't take that as a racist remark, I'm just stating a fact) non-Muslim men saying Muslim women are oppressed.
      Thank you for your apology. Even if you do not agree with everything, apologizing shows great character.

    Vice has a tendency to superimpose their own moral frameworks onto their subjects, rather than simply allowing the subjects to tell their own story, free of judgement, and allow the viewer to decide how they feel about the values portrayed. That Milene comes into this with preconceived notions about who and what these women should be based on her own moral values, she does a disservice to the profession of journalism. Sadly, Vice is often style over substance, throwing objectivity to the wolves.

    I think she did a great job at giving the right amount of insight in Ukrainian culture and politics to make this understandable. I don't think a lot of people were aware that feminism in the Ukraine has evolved independently from western feminism because of the iron curtain.

    It was very refreshing to see this perspective from another country on American feminism, which in ONLY SOME (hear me out here) cases, does actually act as a counterpoint to chauvinism, going to the other extreme, holding one gender as superior to another. I have met and spoken with people who hold such views. I personally am for the creation of a new "ism," which I would call "equalitism," which would be implicitly an "ism" that is about both genders being treated equally in all cases, be it alimony payments, child custody cases, domestic violence cases, job interviews, etc. etc. Because the feminism vs chauvinism choice is itself a false choice. You don't have to fall into that box put there to wedge us apart and hold one gender as superior. You really don't.

    As a man I support Katerinas well thought judgment. She is a great role model for women teaching them to choose men and not have men choose them potentially ending up in a abusive situation with no outlet. I saw nothing disappointing about them they are strong and work together with eachother and eventually with men for the greater good.

    Some people want extreme, and an extreme response to oppression is what some movements believe in and practice, but this can just cause the pendulum to swing back and forth and not actually solve the problem.
    These women seem to me very balanced in this video, which I believe to be a very good response to extremism. Some don't know how to deal with balanced people, they want to put them in one extreme category or another. The previous stories put out about the Asgrada and how they believed they are better than and totally independent from men always kind of put me off, and I was suspicious of the validity of those claims, though still intrigued.
    It's not that we don't need men or that we do, some women may want a man and some may not, but it is healthier to be able to coexist and not hate one another and believe one to be better than the other. This is how we have an extreme patriarchy in some parts of the world, a matriarchy is not the solution, equality is.
    And yes many women naturally want to have children. I agree the trainer was out of line saying ALL women needed to do this first. But strong women should also not feel that to have a child and be at home makes them weak either, and this is an image modern feminism has created. It takes a lot of strength to do that work, and fighting should only be for self defense, making a lifestyle of war is not what we want to promote in this world either. This leaves a lot of time for art, music, raising children. It's your choice based on your own desires, don't let anyone tell you what is right for you based on their principal and image they want to see created.

    I didn't interpret that comment that way. Obviously weakness is inherent in all of us, men and women. Within a relationship it's important for both sides to show their weaknesses.
    The problem with that extract is that we were given no context, it could support either of our interpretations. That's the problem with selective editing, it changes the message... Who knows

    it would've been cooler if they actually had a sword fighting technique that catered to the female anatomy. obviously we don't really sword fight anymore. but an equally trained 200 pound man would win simply because of strength in strikes. something like a wing chung of swords would be sick. Id love to learn it

    I don't understand why you ended on a negative note. Yes it was not what you expected and there are flaws, but generally this is a very good movement and community. Don't let your bias cloud your jounalism. You are looking into a different culture that faces different struggles with different thoughts. You have to view it from their eyes.

    i think you should watch the entire thing. They have pride as women, but they aren't trying to destroy the lives of men in the process. I would kill for women like that in this country. Virtuous, nurturing, physically fit, with a passion for their history, and they'll cut off your balls if you try and hurt them. What more could you want? I'd rather have a child with someone like that than the average American woman, for the sake of the child's upbringing

    I fully respect the ideals and the culture that these Ukranian women keep though they are not my own views. I can see how, since the population of men was so low, it has become engrained in their culture to try and help the population of men thrive. I only wish that perhaps they had spoken up for the LGBT community, because most of what the leader said was that it was the woman's job to support the husband, but no where was the possibility of lesbianism addressed. It would have also been good to see how the women plan to raise their female children because they only talked about how they wanted to raise their boys. Again, I have the utmost respect for their culture

    "It was all a bit confusing." Are you serious?? The woman made perfect sense. What she said was straight forward and easy to comprehend. So if something is not in line with your feminist view that women are against men and better than men, you need to consult a sociologist to explain it? LOL.

    So I am getting mixed signals from this video, from what I can tell the hostess, narrator, journalist went to find a western depiction of modern feminism and project it upon eastern women. The interpretation of what the narrator said was being described vs what the women of asgarda were actually saying was some what being twisted to fit a narrative. pretty much "These ladies dont know any better than supporting the patriarchy" as opposed to the women were not demonizing a gender over a biological difference, but otherwise being equal to in every aspect, including the fragility of males. I feel these ladies are quite aware of the duality of men and women, Yin and Yang. One is strong where the other is weak.

  • @zeeba3999

    They show a part of what feminism is supposed to be: not hating on men, but allowing further equality. Women can be strong, men can be weak, you should be able to show both weakness and strength with your partner, not just one or the other because of your sex.
