I don't know why the woman was disappointed in what she found, I was massively impressed. I know plenty of Western females who treat their men with respect and do not have to believe in something fake to fear behaving otherwise.
It really pisses me off that "Tumblr feminism" has completely sullied the term "feminism" to mean something completely different. What was described was exactly how classical feminism is define--bringing up women to be equal to men.
Luther Elmingham Almost everyone in those countries is born an Orthodox Christian. Some people follow the religion , many don't.The fact that people say about themselves that they are Christian Orthodox doesn't mean anything, especially when they live in a different country. Many keep their religious rituals just as a souvenir of their own culture, trying to conserve something from it but they don't really follow the religious teachings.
... I'm sorry, what is your definition of equality? Because I'm pretty sure it actually means being equal. As in, being able to go to university, the ability to have a career, and NOT to just be a baby-maker who spends her days taking care of her husband.
William Black Uh huh. That whole "in nature" reasoning is bullshit and you know it. Humans aren't like other animals where there is a difference between "in nature" and "in captivity". Also, there are countless animal species where the father cares for the children. Thousands of years ago, most tribal units raised the children in groups - meaning women AND men. And in some tribes, even some today, men are the primary caretakers of children; most notably the African Aka people. So... What was that you were saying about being reasonable?
No, actually, unlike you I'm not pulling that out of my ass. The Aka tribe of Africa is the most famous of those tribes. But go on, keep thinking that way. We like it when men stay ignorant, makes it easier to take control of everything.
Why are you so scared from women becoming "stronger" than men? Is your little fragile masculinity and your delusions of grandeur at risk you little incel? You can burn your book of "how to be a pathetic misogynist". No one wants that anyways. Take your patriarchy and burn that too.
How is child birth a patriarchal goal, is that not a humanity goal? The Ukraine society doesn't look patriarchal at all from what I can tell in this video. A patriarchal society is one like Saudi Arabia, Ukraine seems to be nothing like that. How can women have some much power and it still be called a patriarchal society, it looks like it could be a matriarchal society but these women choose not to abuse their power so they make it a fair society: a society for humanity.
Patriarchy has come to mean literally anything that involves at least one male to western feminists. It's how we know they're actually just a bunch of man haters.
These women have the right idea. They are strong and proud without thinking they are men. I would marry and protect them and they would raise my children to be good and true. This Vice reporter will end up as a depressed 50 year old cat lady with no man or children.
The question isn't whether you would marry those girls. The question is whether they would deign themselves to marry someone who makes stupid RUclips comments and criticizes women for having opinions.
***** well, I'm a white Canadian and I deeply respect my parents and sisters and anybody I meet who doesn't give me reason not to. and maybe you don't abuse and oppress the women of your family, but based on your initial statement I'd say your probably not the greatest toward the ladies. Or maybe you love women, as long as they don't do anything annoying like express themselves or try to accomplish something on their own, for their own personal reasons... or fucking drive. A woman is an individual who defines her own fucking role instead of having some fucking swinging dick douche telling her what to do.
***** okay I didn't expand the comments soooo I kinda feel dickish, although I still find the initial comment suspect I apologize for goin all intense at the end.Snow was dumb. however please don't generalize North Americans. thats mostly inaccurate outside of TV and despite the picture I thought you were a dude so yeah. I do apologize for the outburst and the cursing.
I accept your apology. I would like to point a few things out to you if I may. When I say women should follow their true role, this has nothing to do with man/men. Muslim women strive to please Allah (God) before ANYONE. This is why we dress the way we do. Not because Muslim men say we should, be because it is prescribed to us in the Quran. When you get it in your head that Muslim women must be oppressed by men because of the way we dress, think about Catholic nuns. Up to just a few years ago, they wore their habits (the traditional dress and head covering for Catholic nuns) They dressed the same way Muslim women do. Would you say that nuns were/are oppressed or is the first thing you think of when you see a nun is "wow, that women is really dedicated to God" Why is there such a difference. Think about any historical Christian, Catholic, Jewish art or paintings, and now think about how they are dressed. Just like Muslims..right? Now as far as women not being allowed to drive in certain areas of the world...That has nothing to do with being Muslim. That is a cultural issue, not a religious issue. If you ever look into Islam, I mean really look for yourself and not just go by what others tell you...you will find that Islam gave women a very, very high status, many many rights over men. Have you ever heard a Muslim woman saying she was oppressed by Islam? No. You hear white (sorry, please don't take that as a racist remark, I'm just stating a fact) non-Muslim men saying Muslim women are oppressed. Thank you for your apology. Even if you do not agree with everything, apologizing shows great character.
I just love what these women have created. I wish them every luck and I hope their warrior men and their sons and daughters are happy, healthy and strong in mind and body.
How terribly insensitive and ethnocentric of this reporter to belittle these women and their accomplishments by trying to paint them as victims without any control over themselves, just because they're espousing cultural values she doesn't personally share.
James Bond Nah. Everyone here seems to be ragging on her, but I think she was more disappointed that they spoke as though the only life path a woman "should" have is to have kids and be a homemaker. I think she'd have had at least a somewhat less snippy tone if the Amazonians had said that they were okay with women choosing to pursue families OR careers first. Just my evil, radical feminist take on this.
+Lilac Haze Yes, every women should have children. That's the reason we are on this planet is it not? Your feminist trash in the west has created a society where we don't even have replacement birth rates for our countries. Which means we are dying out as a people. So, when these Ukrainian women look at western women, they see a greedy, selfish, entitled brat whose choice of work is more important than having at least 2 kids. Ohh but don't worry, let's just bring in millions of muslims because women like you want a career instead of raising some kids.
Vice has a tendency to superimpose their own moral frameworks onto their subjects, rather than simply allowing the subjects to tell their own story, free of judgement, and allow the viewer to decide how they feel about the values portrayed. That Milene comes into this with preconceived notions about who and what these women should be based on her own moral values, she does a disservice to the profession of journalism. Sadly, Vice is often style over substance, throwing objectivity to the wolves.
This is what true feminism should be like, not opressing men but at the same time not opressing women either.on the other hand im dissapointed at the the reporter :/ dont believe me? Take look a look at 12:20 Hear what she says.
She totally nailed it! Generally speaking, men would never create a warrior club, just to be a better husband and father. Men would join a club just for themself, for fun, for friendship. She was hoping to find something similar with Amazons. But again, behind their intention is men himself. I hope, that women one day will dare to make something just for themself...world just need this balance, it cannot be only men-centred forever.
"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist'. They think there is this fuzzy middle ground. There is no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." - JOSS WHEDON
the reporter's closing statement was insincere and subjective, female empowerment and gender equality were clearly visible. sorry if reality is not like Marvel comics dear, I guess thats why we have "mythology".
This is awesome, finally feminists who don't hate men who love one another and who believe in bettering themselves through hard work and training. I am so proud to be of Ukrainian descent right now. You go girls.
I love it. Bless these women they are a credit to their people. I hope this movement spreads like wildfire across the Ukraine, and that these women herald in a new age of strong sons and fierce daughters...May the gods of Olympus and Valhalla both watch over them.
Honestly women all over this globe need to rise up and get a hold of everything. All the reason why the world is such a living hell and mess is because males and delusional incels have been falsely given the right to make decisions and cause harm. Also this is really real that women need to realize that it is THEM that grant the permission to boys aka men to be born. This is very important for a woman to understand well.
That was very interesting. The cultural context for this that was revealed towards the end put everything in a whole new light. This is basically a group of women trying to ensure that their country endures and thrives by making the basic unit of society (family) that much stronger. And they have a point. There's been no record of a society where men and women are opposed to one another, largely because it'd be doomed to failure.
what's up with the reporter? Why would she expect the women to hate men? Being a feminist does not mean going against men. That's being sexist, not feminist. Oppression against either gender is bad.
A good journalists job is to enlighten her audience on the topic from their cultural perspective. This often means asking a lot of awkward and biased questions, but that doesn't mean she's ignorant herself. I think she did a great job at giving the right amount of insight in Ukrainian culture and politics to make this understandable. I don't think a lot of people were aware that feminism in the Ukraine has evolved independently from western feminism because of the iron curtain.
What's funny is that the reporter unintentionally just defined what being a good"feminist"should mean considering these aren't the feminist superheroes she imagined. Taking into account all the qualities you just mentioned, the reporter just basically revealed what true feminist women should look like.....and it's not a pretty sight lol.
The reporter is so westernized she cant even comprehend women being powerful, when she said they had a "patriarchal" view I nearly spit my drink out in laughter
It was very refreshing to see this perspective from another country on American feminism, which in ONLY SOME (hear me out here) cases, does actually act as a counterpoint to chauvinism, going to the other extreme, holding one gender as superior to another. I have met and spoken with people who hold such views. I personally am for the creation of a new "ism," which I would call "equalitism," which would be implicitly an "ism" that is about both genders being treated equally in all cases, be it alimony payments, child custody cases, domestic violence cases, job interviews, etc. etc. Because the feminism vs chauvinism choice is itself a false choice. You don't have to fall into that box put there to wedge us apart and hold one gender as superior. You really don't.
I understand and respect her approach, being strong and being a protector and practitioner of arts to do such for the family, that's a strong woman, truth, women I've had relationship with from other countries but here in the U.S., had more independence and strength, and always was more attractive emotionally and physically
As a man I support Katerinas well thought judgment. She is a great role model for women teaching them to choose men and not have men choose them potentially ending up in a abusive situation with no outlet. I saw nothing disappointing about them they are strong and work together with eachother and eventually with men for the greater good.
Well done you guys, delivered yet again. Would like to have heard more of the sociologist lady. Any chance you could share what didn't make it in the clip?
These women got the right idea my hat's off to Ukraine as a Canadian and I'm sure I speak for Americans I wish North American women well more like these women!!!
Some people want extreme, and an extreme response to oppression is what some movements believe in and practice, but this can just cause the pendulum to swing back and forth and not actually solve the problem. These women seem to me very balanced in this video, which I believe to be a very good response to extremism. Some don't know how to deal with balanced people, they want to put them in one extreme category or another. The previous stories put out about the Asgrada and how they believed they are better than and totally independent from men always kind of put me off, and I was suspicious of the validity of those claims, though still intrigued. It's not that we don't need men or that we do, some women may want a man and some may not, but it is healthier to be able to coexist and not hate one another and believe one to be better than the other. This is how we have an extreme patriarchy in some parts of the world, a matriarchy is not the solution, equality is. And yes many women naturally want to have children. I agree the trainer was out of line saying ALL women needed to do this first. But strong women should also not feel that to have a child and be at home makes them weak either, and this is an image modern feminism has created. It takes a lot of strength to do that work, and fighting should only be for self defense, making a lifestyle of war is not what we want to promote in this world either. This leaves a lot of time for art, music, raising children. It's your choice based on your own desires, don't let anyone tell you what is right for you based on their principal and image they want to see created.
it seems Ukrainian women have a Balance between being strong and independant and being passive and loving enough to cater to their man. Those are great characteristics for a strong woman to have.
Scythian warrior women existed, they helped fuel the myth of Amazons that the Greeks came up with. Though they weren't numerous; the Scythian's had a similar hierarchical warrior culture.
I didn't interpret that comment that way. Obviously weakness is inherent in all of us, men and women. Within a relationship it's important for both sides to show their weaknesses. The problem with that extract is that we were given no context, it could support either of our interpretations. That's the problem with selective editing, it changes the message... Who knows
it would've been cooler if they actually had a sword fighting technique that catered to the female anatomy. obviously we don't really sword fight anymore. but an equally trained 200 pound man would win simply because of strength in strikes. something like a wing chung of swords would be sick. Id love to learn it
I don't understand why you ended on a negative note. Yes it was not what you expected and there are flaws, but generally this is a very good movement and community. Don't let your bias cloud your jounalism. You are looking into a different culture that faces different struggles with different thoughts. You have to view it from their eyes.
What else do you need her to be? I mean, she has done quite a good job in this video i think.. What else do you need to know about her? Can she cook? Can she play the piano? Does she knows the capital of Botswana? How good is her math?.. I think your comment is quite lame actually :) -- She cant help it there wasnt any more action in Ukrain goin on..
i think you should watch the entire thing. They have pride as women, but they aren't trying to destroy the lives of men in the process. I would kill for women like that in this country. Virtuous, nurturing, physically fit, with a passion for their history, and they'll cut off your balls if you try and hurt them. What more could you want? I'd rather have a child with someone like that than the average American woman, for the sake of the child's upbringing
I fully respect the ideals and the culture that these Ukranian women keep though they are not my own views. I can see how, since the population of men was so low, it has become engrained in their culture to try and help the population of men thrive. I only wish that perhaps they had spoken up for the LGBT community, because most of what the leader said was that it was the woman's job to support the husband, but no where was the possibility of lesbianism addressed. It would have also been good to see how the women plan to raise their female children because they only talked about how they wanted to raise their boys. Again, I have the utmost respect for their culture
"It was all a bit confusing." Are you serious?? The woman made perfect sense. What she said was straight forward and easy to comprehend. So if something is not in line with your feminist view that women are against men and better than men, you need to consult a sociologist to explain it? LOL.
Finally, someone who says something coherent. Feminism means same "status" for women and men in a society, yet lots of ignorants think feminism is all about women supremacy.
So these women remember and respect all of the sacrifices of men's lives that were made to protect them? I didn't think women like this existed any more....
So I am getting mixed signals from this video, from what I can tell the hostess, narrator, journalist went to find a western depiction of modern feminism and project it upon eastern women. The interpretation of what the narrator said was being described vs what the women of asgarda were actually saying was some what being twisted to fit a narrative. pretty much "These ladies dont know any better than supporting the patriarchy" as opposed to the women were not demonizing a gender over a biological difference, but otherwise being equal to in every aspect, including the fragility of males. I feel these ladies are quite aware of the duality of men and women, Yin and Yang. One is strong where the other is weak.
"These girls were Orthodox Christians, and had patriarchal views on women. They weren't quite the feminist superheroes I had hoped the would be" What a pathetic attack of these women who were kind enough to let this reporter cover their amazing story.
The journalist sucked. The values these women uphold and the philosophy of the Asgarda are what feminism should be, not some stupid sexist ideal of men as the target of all our problems. It was great to learn more about them. If I had the time and commitment, I would want to participate in this form of martial arts.
They show a part of what feminism is supposed to be: not hating on men, but allowing further equality. Women can be strong, men can be weak, you should be able to show both weakness and strength with your partner, not just one or the other because of your sex.
Vice can really be the epitome of biased reporting at times.
Kid and a Squid now "at times"
I don't know why the woman was disappointed in what she found, I was massively impressed. Feminists who go to the extreme of hating men are blinded by their issues and don't realize how transparent their insecurities really are. Overall from what I have seen and understood the women of Asgarda seem to be heading in the right direction.
Those kinds of women are not feminists. They're just female versions of the type of misogynist, sexist men they hate.
Katie Dubbs I say feminism because a lot of modern women who claim to be "feminists," think men are under women. But I do see your point :D
Michael Rotis They claim it, but just because someone claims to be something, doesn't make it so. I could tell you I am a 6'6 black man but that doesn't make it true. Or obvious.
Katie Dubbs As I said "I do see your point." I am agreeing with your criticism so no need to further explain :D
I love feminism arguments :D People always disagree ^^
>a woman can choose to be anything she wants to be
>unless we disapprove
Citation needed.
That last statement nearly killed it for me. Her arrogance is just too much.
I was very impressed by that Asgarda founder/leader, what I liked most was that these women dont hate on men, they just dont like the sexist and abusive men, because those men are indeed weak! Too bad they just want to support men and not be independent, huh?
"Why are you Spartan women the only ones who can rule men?"
"Because we are also the only ones who give birth to men."
-Gorgo, Queen of Sparta
Spartan women are misrepresented in that film. Actually, everyone is misrepresented in that film.
I hate it when feminists assume all women are idiots, the reporter basically discounted everything these people said just because they weren't part of her ideology.
Seriously... God forbid any women wants to be something other than a man-hating career-first women.
Sorry chump but you misogynists never fail in the test of stupidity since "acting like women are idiots" is what misogynists like you do.
@@blankdice8357 how is he a misogynist? Or is this a lame attempt to call names and shame just because you don't have anything else to add?
The ending did suck...i find it admirable what they are doing. There is nothing wrong with a strong woman wanting a strong man and raising a strong family...they are speaking of morals/family values. That journalist was too biased to report this.
Nope. She (the journalist) was just being 100% correct here.
That was a stupid conclusion to the video.
It's funny how pissed off she sounded at the end of the video.

"village girls"really?I hate that americans think that everything in Europe that is not Paris,Rome or Berlin is just one big rural village.

Yeah, the reporter struck me as an obvious Tea Partier. Good job injecting your nonsense.

Finally a decent perspective of feminism, not to become stronger but to be equal in society. These Asgarda have it right in my books.

Even if you do not agree with everything, apologizing shows great character.
you gotta love the male coach, what a fucking alpha!
he speaks like he knows everything.
So according to the Vice reporter, feminism is suppose to be about hating and fighting men?!
+Lilac Haze So it's true? Feminists hate the "western"/"white" societies and would love for "white" people to die already?............
Where the fuck are you getting that from?
Your point is irrelevant to my statements, regardless of whether you believe it to be true.
That is why "Xena warrior princess" is banned in Iran
Ironically the original warriors were Iranic women
She totally nailed it! Generally speaking, men would never create a warrior club, just to be a better husband and father. Men would join a club just for themself, for fun, for friendship. She was hoping to find something similar with Amazons. But again, behind their intention is men himself. I hope, that women one day will dare to make something just for themself...world just need this balance, it cannot be only men-centred forever.
She has a fixed set of assumptions about men. There's really no talking to someone like that.
"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist'. They think there is this fuzzy middle ground. There is no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." - JOSS WHEDON
a feminist could never hang with these real women.
Wow...Her disappointment was palpable. Her head literally dropped when they told her they didn't hate men.
the reporter's closing statement was insincere and subjective, female empowerment and gender equality were clearly visible. sorry if reality is not like Marvel comics dear, I guess thats why we have "mythology".
These woman show no real warriors spirit just a bunch girls that are camping out like girls scout 😕 oh we'll anything to get attention i guess
@@blankdice8357 Hell no.
She's not american, she's Canadian. They're like Americans but ten times more liberal, talk about a nightmare.
Not liberal, just more left wing
The Carpathian mountains are beautiful! They closely resemble the coast range here in Oregon.
What an appalling conclusion. What you concluded from your research and interviews, bore little resemblance to the footage and what you reported!
Very true and thank you for mentioning Boudicca. I had never heard of her before.
Silly feminist reporter :3
What's funny is that the reporter unintentionally just defined what being a good"feminist"should mean considering these aren't the feminist superheroes she imagined. Taking into account all the qualities you just mentioned, the reporter just basically revealed what true feminist women should look like.....and it's not a pretty sight lol.
so just because they aren't feminazi's the reporter is disappointed, wtf
Over a year late from filming, I wish the headlines would read: "Badass guerrilla Amazon fighters stave off the Russian advance on the eastern front"
here we see real strong independant and awesome women, and a very sexist and stupid reporter
i swear this documentry felt like a comedic sketch
The reporter is so westernized she cant even comprehend women being powerful, when she said they had a "patriarchal" view I nearly spit my drink out in laughter
She had hoped to find an obnoxious tribe of women destined to be bitter cat ladies who blame men for all their problems. She was disappointed.
If they are not soldiers, they are not warriors.

I understand and respect her approach, being strong and being a protector and practitioner of arts to do such for the family, that's a strong woman, truth, women I've had relationship with from other countries but here in the U.S., had more independence and strength, and always was more attractive emotionally and physically
Hey look, actual White Women! haven't seen those in a while
"IT'S NOT FEMALE EMPOWERMENT IF IT'S NOT MY BRAND OF FEMALE EMPOWERMENT!" -- This Journalist, 25 Oct 2013
Anyone else feel like moving to Ukraine now?
Where did the reporter say anything against men? She just pointed out that this group of women is more about nationalism than about feminism.
death by snu snu?
As a man I support Katerinas well thought judgment. She is a great role model for women teaching them to choose men and not have men choose them potentially ending up in a abusive situation with no outlet. I saw nothing disappointing about them they are strong and work together with eachother and eventually with men for the greater good.
I'll make a pilgrimage to Asgarda and show i deserve a wife, then we'd have badass children. That is all.
Well done you guys, delivered yet again. Would like to have heard more of the sociologist lady. Any chance you could share what didn't make it in the clip?
Wow, this is a Die-Hard Feminist's wet dream!!!
These women got the right idea my hat's off to Ukraine as a Canadian and I'm sure I speak for Americans I wish North American women well more like these women!!!
такие дурочки, так ржачно))))
Why do you think that?
4:00 well im glad i made it this far!
Man oh man. I need to get me one of these.
The Warrior Women of Asgarda sounds like it is neat, lovely and very good.
That being said, I really like these women. They are strong but not in the obvious physical sense. They know what they're about, which is admirable.
Full screen on the river and garden scenes with pauses and zooming in, almost every second. Wish they focused on these scenes longer.
it seems Ukrainian women have a Balance between being strong and independant and being passive and loving enough to cater to their man. Those are great characteristics for a strong woman to have.
Scythian warrior women existed, they helped fuel the myth of Amazons that the Greeks came up with. Though they weren't numerous; the Scythian's had a similar hierarchical warrior culture.
you made my morning with that one.
Who knows
awesome. hope they keep it up. It is great thing to do.
How are u doing man?
I sit and play games on the computer all day, and after watching this I know I whoop all their ass's.
it would've been cooler if they actually had a sword fighting technique that catered to the female anatomy. obviously we don't really sword fight anymore. but an equally trained 200 pound man would win simply because of strength in strikes. something like a wing chung of swords would be sick.
I'm sure Katerina will lead the women of Asgarda to be the best mid laners this world has ever seen!
What else do you need her to be?
I mean, she has done quite a good job in this video i think..
What else do you need to know about her? Can she cook? Can she play the piano? Does she knows the capital of Botswana? How good is her math?..
I think your comment is quite lame actually :)
-- She cant help it there wasnt any more action in Ukrain goin on..
Amazing stuff. #inspiring too Africa needs this.
i think you should watch the entire thing.
Thank you, I really enjoyed this video.
Great presentation... How anyone can dislike this is quite odd
A sound journalistic piece. Great job, Vice!
She (the presenter) was disappointed that they didn't share her feminist ideology, I was delighted to see strong women who had their own ideology.
I aspected this sort of reporting because is Vice.
Let him sit all day on the sofa and not do anything as long as he's around.
That is so sweet :')
Yet no woman said that for real ever unless she was insane.
i believe they had a good view on things, being equal is probably best for everyone.
"These girls were Orthodox Christians, and had patriarchal views on women. They weren't quite the feminist superheroes I had hoped the would be" What a pathetic attack of these women who were kind enough to let this reporter cover their amazing story.
Regardless of what you think about the opposite gender, you will need them.
