Rest in peace, Shane...I can honestly say that your music and your poetry changed my whole life for the better.
My entire soul has been shaken. His poetry and their music changed and shaped my world as well. I cried watching this video, this youth, this music. I miss being young. Thank you for the music.
Покойся с миром, Шейн.
RIP Shane ❤
I couldn't have said it any better.
RIP
I live in a small town in Italy and Shane and the Pogues, believe me, meant a lot to me when I was in my twenties, even if I didn't perfectly understand the words. Rest in peace.
Grande. Io li ho visti a Milano , primi anni 90. E a Correggio, un paese vicino Reggio Emilia, pochi anni dopo. Grande Shane. Un vero Poeta.
Un abbraccio !!
Maybe you understand being a catholic? Anyways love to you from Ireland 🇮🇪 ☘️
Ups Too Shainr. Wherever you come from,
😂Even if you didn't understand the words is funny and sweet.
There's so many different Celtic dialects I know exactly what you mean, thanks for the laff.
This is the first time I hear of The Pogues and I think they were great.
RIP Shane MacGowen, you were an amazing songwriter and frontman. I am grateful for having had the privilege of seeing The Pogues live in the early '90's. There you were in all your glory, with your bottle of whisky in hand, getting harder and harder to understand as the night wore on, and i loved every second of it. Fly high, sir, away from the pain and troubles of this world, to the next.
Beautifully put ❤
Hinreißend gesagt , wir werden Dich nie vergessen, Shane !

It's great when people ' get him'.

My dad passed away on 9 December. This song is going to be played at his funeral. He loved The Pogues.
God Bless
Sorry to hear that.
He and Shane died nine days apart.
"This land was always ours, was the proud land of our fathers. It belongs to us and them and not to any of the others." Such a proper and most righteous statement for anyone indigenous to land occupied by others.

Until they all get SAG cards and billions in reparations, then it's sort of moot :)
So, Europe?
There are many european and north american nations that need to do what holland and argentina just did. Elect a libertarian , communist hating , economist.

Shane MacGowan. The tradition of wild Irish music might have been lost without him. Thank you for carrying that sacred flame. The bards and balladeers of old Ireland will be there to greet you and they’ll say “well done.”
Fantastic comment!
Such a moving and true comment !
Well said
Really? Will they? Did they tell you? And this is what they'll say too? 😂😂
Just want to drop in and say: The year is 2023 and Shane Macgowan is still alive. I appreciate everything he and the boys have done. Love from Florida.
Edit: RIP to ya Shane. Forever a legend. And everyone saying "didn't age well haha" is that what ya do, go around laughing at people who've died? Fuck off
And even more amazing; his teeth aren't ****ed up any more.

Good man yourself
Merci à M. Shane Macgowan pour l’ensemble de son œuvre. Bonjour à tous de France 🇫🇷
Shane was a musical genius. The concept of mixing punk with traditional Irish music was brilliant. He more than a musician he was a poet.
Yes, Shane Mcgowan eas fantastic. Nothing else to say. 🎶🎵♩🎵🎶
Pogues deserve the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and this is possibly the best song ever written .
They would not give a damn.

The Pogues are Irish punk but they have a huge underlying country vibe. Celtic Country but Country nonetheless.

Shane was no shame, everlasting song for the immortals. Thank you.
I had never heard of Shane until his funeral was posted on RUclips. I find myself captivated by him.
went to see the Pogues years ago and though Shane initially looked like he wasnt even going to be able to make it onto the stage he came on and the performance of the band was perhaps the finest concert i have ever been to- what an amazing group of musicians
I must confess that I cried. RIP great Shane. Love from Lombardy, Italy
There's no band like them, plenty have tried to replicate their sound, all have failed. Possibly one of the greatest live bands of all time. Impossibly catchy music that makes people who can't dance want to get up and dance until they drop. Along with Roy Keane and Guiness they are Irelands greatest export. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you, The Pogues
Damned right!! 👍
the pogues are an English band who play Irish music, they are however, brilliant, and as good as keane is he is no George Best ;) Add Hop House Lager along with guiness
Always liked them. I have Tu.rnesd-a lot of folks on to them wife joyce went to Ireland land a few months back !chuck

A hint of bluegrass in this fantastic Irish tune, Shane the Shaman on the mike, the other lads playing their hearts out, and the crowd bouncing around the floor as one......the only thing I can say is....WHY WASN'T I THERE!!!! Love from the Finger Lakes, NY State.
I think Scots Irish music is where we get bluegrass. We just refined it here in the US
@@michaelmcknight8419 I think Shane took a little of the bluegrass and brought it back across to Old Erin in this one. I love bluegrass, but the problem with American country music is....THEY FORGOT THE FLUTES AND WHISTLES! I think that Calvinist thing made them think that the flute was Satan's instrument......
I think you're right. The flutes and whistles went into drum and bugle/military march tunes, which had a big influence on Celt and prison work songs and blues music. A lot of Scandinavian / Appalachian influence was in country music, too. Shane definitely assembled his influences historically. But god, did that man sing it from the soul and the blood. ❣@@joemarshall4226

I love the Pogues and drank in the same pub as them back in the 1980s but they are not Irish. Almost all of them - including Shane MacGowan - are born in England. Smashing music that's full of Irish influences but they are Plastic Paddies.
When I was between 18 and 21 I use to go to the pub few times a week, I use to leave house between 6 and 7 pm walking downtown for 30min to meet my friends and drink a few beers ( a lot actually )
On the road I always listen to this album, the first tracks make me full of energy and enthusiasm. I indeed stop my music as I was sharing a good moment with my friends, and play the second part of the album as I was goin back home.
For those who know, the second part is not as energic as the begining, there's some balads and sad songs and I was staggering on these sweet last songs on my way back
And every damn time, as I was staggering, I remembered that line from "A Pair of Brown Eyes" when he said "Sometimes crawling, sometimes walking".
Feelin' really concerned back then lmao
Anyway, love this album, maybe a few people will recognize themselfe in my comment, I'll be glad not to be the only one
Now that was a great short...thanks for sharing
It's one of "those" albums. The ones that hit real hard personally...

Which is ironic, because there is some serious lyrical dissonance going on in this song. The tune may be happy, but the words are *sad stuff*.

Beautiful tribute to Ireland!
RIP Shane 🙏🥺... I heard about Pogues when I started to be a rebel girl 😅 and never stopped... Ty guys 🫶🌻🖤
RIP the day is a little darker
What a wonderful music. Listened to this while at college for months. Shane's death brought the wish to listen to it again back and reminded me how good Pogues were.
The Pogues are the best and Shane McGowan’s teeth are part of the legend. Shane’s growly voice has shades of Leonard Cohen and his sound is at times reminiscent of Mongolian chest singing.
Shane got his teeth fixed. They made a documentary of it on bbc4. The lad being a National Treasure and all.
Pogues Mahone!
So long Shane! I hope you rest in peace finally 😢
Lived my whole life in Alabama, saw The Pogues on this tour in Birmingham. Shane was one of the two drunkest performers I ever saw, I guess tied with the first time I saw Paul Westerberg with The Replacements, and yet they both completely delivered great performances. I'm surprised he made it this long. Anyway, an amazing songwriter. Hit every emotional note. This remains one of my all-time favorite albums. I think The Broad Majestic Shannon is my absolute favorite. I would be fine if they played that when I was dying myself, but I doubt anyone will think to do it.
I've just discovered this group (in December 2022). Seems like they didn't get the recognition they deserved since I've never heard of them. Or maybe I've lived under a rock... (Whatever, they're now my fav group! and I absolutely love Shane MacGown and the rest of the band.)
