    I really like how you show carving with just a single knife and maybe some paint or oil. It makes getting started much easier without having to take out a loan. Thanks!

    Thank you for this video. Big big help!! My grandpa used to whittle peanuts characters. I was looking for a hobby i remembered my grandpa and i got some gear but totally didn't know where to start. Im also a bird nut and so i really appreciate your video.

    Hello Doug, thank you for sharing your skill and wisdom. I really like your teaching style and if nothing more, just like to watch you create carvings. I'm 64 years old but not too old to learn. I made me a knife from an old sawblade that works quite well, but will order a commercially made knife anyway. With the help of your videos, I managed to make some wooden critters that are quite popular for birthdays and holidays. So thank you again! Cheers from Oregon - Peter

    As always great stuff! I like to make quick carvings that don't require painting and I give them away to the children that come to my workplace. Can you please do more of these minimalist carvings?! I've learned to love carving from your videos so please keep them coming.

    The original owl carving is one of my grandkids favorites. The really like when I paint them in colorful paint. As part of your 1x1 series is like to see a refresher course on painting them... I've taken lots of notes from your painting videos but it would be nice to see your latest process for these little guys.

      I played around with the length, made some really short ones, some tall and slender (of the "original" one). The new one is simplified (the steps), if I'm not mistaken, but it looks really cute!

    Loving these 1×1 vids, I have a lot of it and not much else at the moment. 🤣
    I quite like using sweet chestnut wood when I can find any thats being trimmed back, makes for easy carving when it's green.

    watching it with the sound down with headphones on in silence is great as you are totally focused on the moves not the language, and you concentrate better. I also find that playing COD with the sound down I play better. Call of Duty.

      You have to do it yourself. Tap the screen and a little cc in a square will pop up. Tap it. It will give you subtitle options.

    Gr8 tutorial... as usual. My one complaint is that the majority of the video seems slightly out of focus. Hope that's something that can be corrected in future videos; although it is possible the focus issue might just be my tired old eyes;-). Your manner is so comfortable, yet informative, it makes even the beginner carver feel they can accomplish the task. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Great job and well done! Have you ever used the carving knives from Warther’s Museum and knife store in Dover, Ohio? Ernest “Mooney” Warther was an amazing master carver and was a genius with the carving knife!

    What about general guidelines for starting measurements conversions to convert 1x1 series measurements for 1 1/2x 1 1/2 or 2x2.
    Old (83+ arth) hands have problems with size of 1x1.
