just wanted you to know your owls were a big hit. i gave them to veterans that i take care of. the smiles were well worth it. they loved them. you cheered up many guys in need of cheering up. thank you
1x1 series is awesome Doug! Would love to see a little frog as part of the series one day.
I really like how you show carving with just a single knife and maybe some paint or oil. It makes getting started much easier without having to take out a loan. Thanks!
I carved it for my mom’s birthday and she loves it! Thank you
You can never have too many owl's 🦉 keep them coming. 🤣🤣🤣
Love them all and thanks again for sharing. 🦉😍🏴
Thank you for this video. Big big help!! My grandpa used to whittle peanuts characters. I was looking for a hobby i remembered my grandpa and i got some gear but totally didn't know where to start. Im also a bird nut and so i really appreciate your video.
One of my favorites. I hope the 1x1 carvings keep coming.
Thanks!
I just want to say thanks for putting these videos up i think it helps plenty of newbies get into carving myself included it was one of your videos that got me carving i love them 👍🏻😊
I was just about to do another dowel owl this morning but now I got to get out the 1x1 and do this version! Great video!
Doug, your 1x1 series are a blast. I know I’m late watching this one, but I’m slowly but surely catching up on the series. All the birds singing in the background are the icing on the cake. 👍🏼
Doug, you are such a great teacher! I enjoy how you show the finished carved piece as you along, it is so helpful in understanding what to do next. I also enjoy your calm demeanor...I could listen to you for hours...
Doug I love your whittles project simple I already done a lighthouse found scraps dowel dumped I used it waste not want not lol 🇮🇹👍🐾🦊🇺🇲
Love the minimalist projects. Simple and easy is a great way to learn and not get discouraged.
Doug hi, well you did it again tickled the creativity in me . I was going to make knife guards , now I can make a Parliament different roles.
Thanks again for being such a great mentor . 👍🇺🇸😇
Teşekkürler.
I think the owls and woodland critters are my favorites. 😃
First time trying to wood carve here in Pennsylvania. Did my first owl. I'm pretty happy. Thanks for your video, Doug. This helped out a lot.
Love those owls, brother! Thanks again for everything you do to keep us motivated!!
Just completed this little owl on a tree trunk and I am very pleased with him. Thanks again for the tutorial Doug.
Thanks for introducing me to this wonderful new hobby!

Thank-you!
Loved every minute of that and now have a class wee owl that lives in Northern Ireland 😁 brilliant tutorial
Thanks for sharing Doug,, you're a great teacher, ❤
thanks Doug for keeping it simple so that even i can follow along! also love Woodcarving Illustrated
You make it look so easy! I haven't cut my self yet! Looks great. Carve on.
Your skill in making wood sculptures is amazing! The wood sculpture is incredibly detailed also the color
Hello Doug, thank you for sharing your skill and wisdom. I really like your teaching style and if nothing more, just like to watch you create carvings. I'm 64 years old but not too old to learn. I made me a knife from an old sawblade that works quite well, but will order a commercially made knife anyway. With the help of your videos, I managed to make some wooden critters that are quite popular for birthdays and holidays. So thank you again! Cheers from Oregon - Peter
Just happened across your Chanel. Blew my mind. Made my day. And I binged a bunch. So peaceful. I was having a bad day and this made me forget everything. Thanks a million
Thanks for yet another awesome video from you Doug. 😁👍😁👍
Always look forward to NEW videos
As always great stuff! I like to make quick carvings that don't require painting and I give them away to the children that come to my workplace. Can you please do more of these minimalist carvings?! I've learned to love carving from your videos so please keep them coming.
Bob Ross of whittling really enjoy watching hoping to start soon
Loving the owls. Another great video. Not only do you get great closeups but you explain the process 👍🏻
Another little gem, I carved two of your old owl carvings and love both of them. Definitely going to try one of these. Thanks so much for this tutorial Doug.
Thanks! Doug, Keep them coming
Love your 1x1 series. I just started carving and definitely finding my limits. Really appreciate you sharing these videos.
Happy Canada Day Doug!! 🇨🇦 Thanks for the great tutorials. I’m loving the 1x1 series
Re-visiting the 1x1 series and enjoying every minute of it - again. Thanks Doug.
So sweet and cute, thank you, Doug.
I LOVE these, always look forward to all your projects!
The original owl carving is one of my grandkids favorites. The really like when I paint them in colorful paint. As part of your 1x1 series is like to see a refresher course on painting them... I've taken lots of notes from your painting videos but it would be nice to see your latest process for these little guys.
This was my 4th carving. Thanks for the instruction, Sir!
Thanks Doug this was enjoyable, and it didn't take forever. 😊
Love the DHK knife and the owl 🙏👍💯🇺🇸
Thanks Doug you’re always thinking of something awesome and have a great day! 👍👍👍🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯
Hi Doug. My phone was lost in my car so I couldn't comment yesterday. I Did see the video on the BIG SCREEN 😂😂 GREAT carving and fantastic video as usual. Thanks and stay safe.

Love it Doug ..I saw you with Alec talking about this and it looks great ..Thank you for sharing Doug
Thanks Doug, loved it loved it loved it. I carved a bunch of your other owls, loved the chimney and post idea.
I just started carving last week and finding your channel and your 1x1 series have given me lots of great instruction and inspiration, along with achievable projects for a beginner. Thanks for your channel!
Your original owl was my first carving project ever, 3 years ago and it really got me into this awesome hobby. Thanks Dough! I find the new version has a giant beak for an owl 😅 I still love it, and I'm looking forward to many more videos in your 1x1 series, best thing ever!
It’s a caricature -you can do whatever you want to
I played around with the length, made some really short ones, some tall and slender (of the "original" one). The new one is simplified (the steps), if I'm not mistaken, but it looks really cute!
I carved many of your first owl great fun. I struggle with these small ones because of my hands but it just takes me longer and I leave the wood long until I’m done just a lot of fun. Thank you
Thank you so much Doug! I continue to learn from you AND gain confidence with every tutorial you do! Thank you sir…..Happy Cañada day to you!
And happy Canada day to you Mr Linker. Fantastic little owl carving I'll be giving a try this afternoon. many thanks for the video.
Thanks Doug!!!! Great fun! I did a bunch of the first owls you showed us. Looking forward to this little guy. Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦
Loving these 1×1 vids, I have a lot of it and not much else at the moment. 🤣
I quite like using sweet chestnut wood when I can find any thats being trimmed back, makes for easy carving when it's green.
I love your channel. Is a pocket squirrel possible?
A simple thank you Doug.
Just subscribed to your channel and also the magazine. I enjoy your work and I am very new to this carving.thanks
Happy Canada Day, doug . They are absolutely beautiful little owls ❤
Awesome, thanks, Doug.
Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦
🇺🇲 🇨🇦
Love the owl. Happy Canada Day to you!
Wonderful
you are the bob ross of the whittling world brillant.
These are great. Might make some for my neices and nephews. Maybe even my daughter too if she starts behaving.
Happy Canada Day Doug. I caught your One by One bug. I just retired, and now I can't put the knife down. I'm designing all different kinds of subjects. Thanks again for your instruction.
Thanks Doug, It's going to make a great "bottle stopper"
Great video
Thanks for tutorial! Gonna make one of these.
Awesome follow along tutorial. Thanks. I had a hard time seeing the detail at times, I think the focus was off sometimes. I really appreciate how you paused to show the profile in between steps.
Brilliant. Thankyou
Hi Doug, my daughter absolutely loves your 1x1 carving series. Keep up the good work. Could you please tell me the brand of knives you use?
Hi Doug, great video !
Always awesome!
watching it with the sound down with headphones on in silence is great as you are totally focused on the moves not the language, and you concentrate better. I also find that playing COD with the sound down I play better. Call of Duty.
Thank you. Thank you
Love this one.
one of my favorites, easy on the hands....and so cute
different owls 😊
Really cool one! How about a 1 x 1 trout?
Thx Sir Doug. ✌🏻
do you sell your little carvings and how much do you charge I would like to have some of those
Happy Canada Day!!
Good Job. The eyes seem very difficult!!
Love it...thanks
As always your video tutorials are the best.
One question: why doesn't RUclips translate your speech into Italian anymore? I'm glad that you are now also cooperating with WCI.
A thousand thanks
You have to do it yourself. Tap the screen and a little cc in a square will pop up. Tap it. It will give you subtitle options.
@@susanp.collins7834 Thank you, but to some videos this doesn't work...
Gr8 tutorial... as usual. My one complaint is that the majority of the video seems slightly out of focus. Hope that's something that can be corrected in future videos; although it is possible the focus issue might just be my tired old eyes;-). Your manner is so comfortable, yet informative, it makes even the beginner carver feel they can accomplish the task. Thanks for the inspiration!
awesome, what knife do you recommend for a beginner?
🦉👏🦊🧙♂️🐺👏🦉
Awesome!!!
fun fun fun Thanks 🔪
Like it. 👍 👍
Qué madera utilizas?
Can you please link where you bought your knife?
Great job and well done! Have you ever used the carving knives from Warther’s Museum and knife store in Dover, Ohio? Ernest “Mooney” Warther was an amazing master carver and was a genius with the carving knife!
I have the complete set of Warther Knives they are definitely my go to knives
@@danmack56 They are the best! I actually met Mooney when I was on a field trip in the 5th grade.
His carvings are truly masterpieces!
What about general guidelines for starting measurements conversions to convert 1x1 series measurements for 1 1/2x 1 1/2 or 2x2.
Old (83+ arth) hands have problems with size of 1x1.
Greatly enjoy your videos!!
I have another video on the larger owl
What kind of brush do you use ?
What type of ruler is that?
Hey Doug really goofy question, for you. what is the name of the ruler you are using, I've looked around and can't find one. Thanks James
Ain’t it purdy? Lol it’s made by veritas from lee valley -problaby cost more than worth but I love it
@@dougLinker thank you
@@dougLinker yes it is Purdy and I got mine ordered.
