For anyone that doesn't want to use the secret formula, just use the original rg35xx garlic 3-mix template. In media, select 'user provided mix' for the media type and check 'keep image ratio'. works great.

They changed the way Boxart is displayed with the 231205 Firmware... Good Luck. The Font is smaller, the resolution in frame does not fit anymore. They added Apps and Sega CD as a new System.
Where did you get this info? Also this is just for now until we have an easy way to do over Wi-Fi. Also I'm fairly sure this can be changed to whatever they change it to.
@@JaviPlayRetro I downloaded the Firmware and found out that my scraped RG35XX 3-in-1 templated screenshots were now displayed much too small, because of the 640x480 frame and the screenshot within that frame being half the size. It seems that the new firmware scales the screenshots automatically. So you can now go the full 300x400, 640x480 or 800x600 route without a frame anymore. There's no changelog of the firmware, but there is a folder mdcd for Sega CD and we get Apps to change some retroarch settings on the fly.

I'm also curious if the RG35XX Plus might alter and number the game titles on the SD card - it would be frustrating, though I find it hard to believe. So this is what my next project is. Trying to create a prettier image of the stock os. So, i will be trying to swap out all the asset files. So the loading screen, shutdown screen, background images, sound effects, font, everything. Then, when it's done, I'll create an image to share with you guys.
@JaviPlayRetro Nice! I'm eager to see if you find a solution. My understanding is that when there are two different versions of the same game on the card, StockOS adds additional information in brackets, otherwise not (but I could also be wrong about this). I think I saw this on a RUclips video.

Yes, I recommend you flash a new SD card with a blank firmware. Check out my tutorial on that. Then add your own games. So we have something to scrape.

@defendersbjj You can use it plug and play, but at the very least, you should create a backup of that sd card just in case it dies on you. These are generic and know to fail relatively fast. Also, there are backups on the internet already, but I would rather you create your own image and leave it on your computer for safe keeping.
I messed around with it and found that resizing square box art to 500x500 worked pretty well, I have not found a good resize value for vertical box art like NES and MegaDrive though. @@JaviPlayRetro

I don't know if that's due to the latest anbernic firmware update, but I'm using 640x480px PNGS with alpha at the right, bottom and upper (using one of your PNGs of reference) and It's shown very very small on the screen T_T (with this blank space showing on screen instead of being scaled up and with the alpha outside of the screen. I'm working on it in PSD so I'll do further tests

We will see. Im personally not a huge fan of the 405v. But if I can get my hands on a review unit. Ill get that for you. I personally like an app called Console Launcher. Looks better than daijishio but it lacks game shortcuts for roms. It still works really well though. I can tell you from experience. I have an old phone I use for emulation on android with a dedicated controller and thats what I use.
Skraper is gonna take 7 days to do all my systems, so i set to one console at a time and it says its gonna take 15 hours just for gba.... So Im probably gonna use a different route.

Good question! This tutorial is only for the first firmware. Anbernic decided to change the how boxart is governed in later updates so that why it looks tiny unforchunately.
I have firmware 20231212 and I also get tiny box art. The new FW scales down the images which is the reason. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to keep the original aspect ratio. E.g. I prefer square box art for GBA but RG35xxp stretches the images horizontally. Not perfect. I have my own "secret formula" which seems to work better with newer FW: magick mogrify -resize 282x216 -extent 282x216 -gravity West -background none * This is without borders. Note that resize keeps the original aspect ratio, and extent creates an empty background to fit 282x216 so that RG35xxp doesn't need to stretch the image. A square image stays square, hopefully also an image with any other aspect ratio. I am not 100% sure if 282x216 is the optimal size.
Highly doubtful. Sega model 2 and 3 use Windows Emulators e.g. Model 2 emulator. RG35XX can just about do model 1, but this is via MAME 2003 Xtreme. This should (hopefully) be able to do Sega NAOMI through the Flycast core, the same core used for Dreamcast. In some ways yes but no. Onion OS is by far the best custom firmware available for these retro handhelds. RG35XX Plus is better hardware. With a better cpu, 8x RAM, a decent gpu, and Bluetooth and HDMI out, both of which Miyoo Mini Plus lacks. Miyoo also has inferior build quality so there's that as well. Software wise go Miyoo Mini Plus. Hardware RG35XX Plus. But we dont know what will happen in the future. This handheld could get really good CFW too. We'll have to wait and see.

@@rudya.hernandez7238 I am using standard box art size and it is automatically cropping. It's fine. If you keep it smaller, it will crop even smaller. So use big size art and it will automatically crop accordingly

By putting them on a SD card and then playing them, in the eyes of the console Pokémon red is the same as radical red and if it loads all good, sometimes you may get a white screen, then something hasn't worked
@@mariannemurdoch I meant more along the lines of if it has any issue playing the roms, they aren't particularly well optimized and tend to be on the heavy size
Manual scraping then and nothing built in, similar to RG35XX non plus :( Nothing on the lines of emulation station DE where the frontend can scrape, or app like SteamGridDB or Batocera. Batocera on RG35XX standard could scrape but was flaky due to requiring a USB NIC adapter. I managed to auto scrape only a couple time on the RG35XX .

Garlic is not yet fully developed. The current alpha build serves as an early preview and is primarily tailored for developers rather than end-users. Currently, StockOS outperforms GarlicOS, which still requires some additional refinement.

You can easily just make the image smaller you can just change 280 to something like 260 or 270 see if that uncovers it

What does he mean prepped SD cards? Do you recommend using your own rom sets versus the preloaded games and SD card?

This tutorial is only for original firmware 20231108. The newer firmware changes how boxart is governed

That setting is just for the gamelist file, which you can just delete. The setting you want is where the boxart is. It says clean up output folder

Make sure the name of the png is the same as the m3u and it should show up. The png must also be inside the folder.

For me these ended up being extremely small
? i have that anbernic, the games that come loaded already have the box art and thats all that youre showing. no proof that this actually works on games we install individually.
nobody uses the games taht comes loaded because that's an unbranded sd card and may have failures, just buy new sd card brnaded Samsung or skandisk
@@joelgrebinsilvestri i have the exact games hes showing. look at the directory of the games hes loading, its all the internal memory, the ones that come default with his and mine.

In some ways yes but no. Onion OS is by far the best custom firmware available for these retro handhelds. RG35XX Plus is better hardware. With a better cpu, 8x RAM, a decent gpu, and Bluetooth and HDMI out, both of which Miyoo Mini Plus lacks. Miyoo also has inferior build quality so there's that as well. Software wise go Miyoo Mini Plus. Hardware RG35XX Plus. But we dont know what will happen in the future. This handheld could get really good CFW too. We'll have to wait and see.

EDIT: I reinstalled (I think a previous version of Magick) and enabled Legacy-something on installation. That fixed it, I think. No more error on the terminal command.

@@rudya.hernandez7238 I am using standard box art size and it is automatically cropping. It's fine. If you keep it smaller, it will crop even smaller. So use big size art and it will automatically crop accordingly
@@dvornikovalexei what standard size is that? 640x480? My previous art is all 640x480 and still goes tiny whether it is that or I make it 282x216 (other art from anbernic)

How does this console play hacked pokemon roms like unbound or RAdical Red?
By putting them on a SD card and then playing them, in the eyes of the console Pokémon red is the same as radical red and if it loads all good, sometimes you may get a white screen, then something hasn't worked
@@mariannemurdoch I meant more along the lines of if it has any issue playing the roms, they aren't particularly well optimized and tend to be on the heavy size

Nothing on the lines of emulation station DE where the frontend can scrape, or app like SteamGridDB or Batocera. Batocera on RG35XX standard could scrape but was flaky due to requiring a USB NIC adapter. I managed to auto scrape only a couple time on the RG35XX .
Hey, we have wifi. We just have to be patient. Im sure someone will make some mod we can use to do this with one click. This is the method I just threw together because I knew it worked.

Garlic is not yet fully developed. The current alpha build serves as an early preview and is primarily tailored for developers rather than end-users. Currently, StockOS outperforms GarlicOS, which still requires some additional refinement.
When Garlic 2.0 is up to standard and I can recommend it, I will make the video.
