TechDweeb has the best b-roll shots of all the retro game channels. The camera movement, colored lighting, close ups of the reviewed handheld. By far the most aesthetically pleasing. And his little mellow background tune. Much appreciated TechDweeb.
I agree. Mine is horrendous but im trying to learn
I appreciate you saying so! I love that part about making videos, finding new ways to film and edit. That's the fun stuff for me. And I'm always happy to hear when you dweebs dig it :)
I absolutely agree 💯%!
you absolutely rock man@@TechDweeb 🦾

A wise man once told me “Sometimes turning something good enough, into something more good enough, is good enough for me”
Sounds like a wise guy
As you and Russ both mentioned, this device will come into it's own in 2024. Would love to use a 35XX+ with wifi capable MinUI.
Thanks to your video, I changed my order from Miyoo Mini Plus, to RG35XX. Both seem like solid devices, but the HDMI output made me change my mind.
I got the miyoo plus before I figured this out. Doh. I will say tho, the miyoo plus is just fine. How do you like your rg35xxplus? Does the HDMI work well?
@@dreamleaf6784Yes, it does work well. Hey, don't be disappointed with Miyoo. It's still a solid little device. My coworker bought one and likes it.
I tried the hdmi outout with muOS and it looks bad, it's 480p 4:3 stretched, not worth using until you could control aspect ratio, stock os hdmi output might be different but i haven't tried it.
The only thing keeping me from getting the 35xx was lack of wifi. I'm a sucker for retroachievements, so this is a big upgrade imo
Same. Worth it for that alone for us AchivementMonkies
The miyoo mini plus does have wifi for OTA updates and retroachievements. Also a better custom firmware than GarlicOS I believe the RG35xx can use.
Bought one through your link. Hope the support goes a long way! Thanks for the great content!
Much appreciated!
so excited to see good reviews. just bought mine on amazon and it arrives friday
Niiice! Make sure you try the Koriki firmware if you want to try a new OS :)

I have the MM+ as well as the og RG and I subscribe completely to your review of them.
Yeah, there are awesome features with the RG, however, no matter how good the Garlic OS is, Onion OS is insane with how well it does everything. You just pop in a card with the installer on it and the thing does its job.
Yup. Hard to imagine anything competing with the ease of Onion.
thanks for that honest opinion on the comparison part, that's what im reallly wanting to know. you helped me decide. continue being honest to your comparisons. you gained a subscriber!
Nice, thanks buddy! And welcome!

Another great video my friend. Thanks you.
Aw shucks 😊
@@TechDweeb frfr brother I love your content. You have a style that is not easily replicated. You not only bring information to the viewer but you convey authenticity and every episode is entertaining. Thank you because not only do I consume your content for entertainment but to learn from your creativity.
Great vids as always.
The 35XX was my first portable emularor and it was great. I loved it. I eventually discovered I don't really like vertical handhelds though. So eventually when I upgraded to something else I decided to just give it to my mother. And she liked playing mario on it so hopefully she'll take good care of it.
What did you upgrade to? I got a MM+ this week and i love it, but my hands dont...
Looking at grabbing something a bit nicer to hold wih larger hands that doesnt break the bank, so I'm just looking for suggestions 😊
If you have an MM+ I highly recommend the grip!
@@TechDweeb well like I said I don't really like vertical handhelds. So by upgrade I mean I got the Retroid Pocket 2S. And I do have a grip already just not the official one. I bought one on Etsy thats a clip shield. It can go on the back as a grip and on the front as a shield to protect the screen.
@@KovanNova I was looking at the Retroid Pocket 2S, do you have any regrets?
The RP4 would be nice, but being new to this hobby I don't really want to spend that amount of money just yet.
@@mrbrit6746 no I have no regrets at all. Like a lot of people also think this is a really good starter handheld for what you can get running on it for the price it is at. If you're really interested I do have my own review that you can watch if you want but so does techdweeb and I'm positive he did a far better job than I did. I did recently get PS2 running on it and figured out how to get God of War 2 to play at what I would consider to be "playable" it mostly stays at a 100% game speed but the frame rate can still dip sometimes.
The RG35XX is what got me into these retro emulation handhelds to begin with. My current favourites, for reasons, are the R36S and SF-2000. But I am excited for the Retroid Pocket 4 and GKD Pixel!
I have the NON plus 35xx. I have been enjoying it immensely. I was a bit surprised not to find any mario or Zelda games. The shoulder buttons are a tad difficult for my larger hands. I will surely be upgrading to the plus for the Bluetooth connection for tv playability with an external controller. This was a great review
Youll have to find mario and zelda games yourself on the internet for this handheld, ANBERNIC doesnt put them on because of legal issues that Nintendo actually presses on apparantly.
Was wondering when you'd get to this bad boy... But I was confident you would. Great review...
I'm so happy I survived the urge to buy this. My experience with original 35xx wasn't that smooth due to non consistent menu button and shoulder buttons. I love MM+ way more. As for this new rg35xx I would say one would better go for rg353v/vs. A bit more power, great os, analog sticks and loads and loads of great ports.
Now if anbernic makes their clambernic with the same power - I will definately buy one
LOL clambernic
Thanks for the video mate!
Keep the great vids coming
Yes sir! (or madam)
Absolutely crossing my fingers for GarlicOS to impress like it did on the original 35xx, as I am sure it will thanks to Black Seraph, while being able to utilize bluetooth and wifi as well. The miyoo mini + was just not a comfortable device for me, but the 35xx was a joy to actually game on. Until Garlic updates, my 35xx plus sits on my desk...
So you prefer the older 35xx over the miyoo mini?
Why exactly?
I want to buy the 35xx non plus I think.
@@johnmachter40yeah me too. Still looking around and considering to get the non plus rather than the plus. Will I regret it? 😖
@@hafzanakim i bought the non plus. in a year i can buy the plus version if everything has matured for it ;)
I really hope Miyoo upgrades the Mini+ chipset eventually. It would be perfect with that 1gb of ram and a gpu.
Hi TD!! I hope you're having a great day today! Fun as always. That 35xx+ is interesting, and I hope that Garlic gets even better than Onion, but the Miyoo Mini with Onion sure is hard to beat for a nice time 🙂
Agreed. Miyoo + Onion is going to be a hard one to top!
The good hard look segment is truly genius!
Yeah, but now my face hurts.
Love mine, waiting for Onion OS and it will be my new go to handheld!
You mean garlic right?
This definitely looks amazing, but I'm going to wait for developers of Garlic OS and others to make their own OS for this device as this looks damn promising.
You can play NDS and N64 games well on the original RG35XX using Koriki OS which is very pleasing to the eye. PSP work with some tweaks too. Dreamcast also possible but haven't tried. Love the channel btw!
Hi, great review. How would you compare it to the retroid pocket 2s you reviewed some time ago. I am looking for a vertical handle retrogaming console and I was wondering what your thoughts about that? Thank you.
Anbernic have just announced the RG35XX H, which is a horizontal version of this handheld, which also includes dual thumbsticks. Spec wise it's exactly the same although the price is currently unknown at the moment. Those looking at this and wishing that it had thumbsticks or those that prefer the form factor of horizontal handhelds (PSP style), might just be better just waiting it out for a couple more weeks, for that instead.
your my fav tech nerd not in a bad nerd way
Not having Analog Controls is more of a feature than a failure, at least for the Game Boy Form Factor.
I would like a very small one like the one nintendo added in the new 3ds
Ive always said if the RG35XX had the same screen settings as the Miyoo Mini plus i wouldn't even look at the miyoo
and Anbernic delivered with the RG35XX Plus :))).
Another banger vid 👌🤟
I bought one of these and it came in today. Damn, I thought it’d be something I could quickly get up and running, but no, I’ve got to reload software, download new roms, scour the internet for tutorials, etc.
my 35XX Plus 3.5mm headphone jack stopped working, here's a question, with bluetooth for controllers why can the device not connect to bluetooth headphones? It is driving me crazy that I can no longer use headphones on a device that has BT due to the 3.5mm failing.
Having a Steam Deck, I got this to play old games in a small form factor even betterer that the previous model.
12:45 The Miyoo Mini (Plus?) has an Ebook reader?!? No way dude! I'm gonna have to look into this more. 🤯
Yup! Built into Onion OS.
Just ordered mine in Black ❤
Build quality is another big consideration. Miyoo Mini's reported fragility and the screen falling out turned me away from it for good. How solid does this one feel?
Miyoo is not Anbernic. Never had an issue with their devices, but i had many issues with PowKiddy devices. The old Miyoo Mini had screen glue issues, too. So you are save buying the Plus.
Build quality seems great here. But I'm just one dweeb. I didn't have any issues with either of my OG Miyoo Mini or my MM+, for what it's worth.
My favorite nerd RUclipsr 🎉 thanks for the great content .
Appreciate it!
Hello and good day to you TechDweeb. The RG35XX plus sounds like a good recommendation. 👍🏾
what a great review as always, Looks like I will go for 35XX H,
I ordered myself a RG405v (Beefy) still in route, but now I want a good Gameboy like Vertical Retro that I can hook up to a TV with HDMI with Wireless controllers any suggestions or options I can go with? I thought the RB35xx+ was the only one, any other makes can do wireless controllers and Bluetooth? Thx, love your videos top notch editing , knowledgeable and very informative. Does controllers with an analog stick work? New Viewer btw lol thx.
Is it going to play the higher end stuff ok using the video out, with two wireless controllers that would be well worth it for me.. great video.
I love it when the port and Jack are called holes
One change I'm not a fan of is the new black bezel on the dmg version. I loved the grey bezel on the 35xx dmg version.
Oh? I'm the opposite!
Finally an honest review with a common sense. It's not good to play DC, PSP, or N64 games in a handheld that's w/o any stick. Cheers Dweeb!
Majority of them are still more than serviceable.
Yeah lots of them play fine, but for those that don't it's a PITA to change the controls on a game-by-game basis. I like what Anbernic did with the PSP update, how you can switch the control from dpad to analog with the push of a button. Hopefully they do something similar with Dreamcast at the very least, maybe even PS1 and N64.
Thinking about getting a device like this for my apocalypse kit 😁
I'm thinking about buying one looks cool.
I have the 35xx and 353vs.. how does the 35xx plus match up against the 353vs?
Hello. If I connect a controller to this device will it pick up the analog stick(s) fairly easy without messing other things up? Thanks
Yup!
The coolest thing is of the game needs an analog stick you use a Bluetooth controller. That’s so cool to me
I bought this today and im excited for it ! hopefully its a very nice console, I'm exciteddd to play GBA games and pokemon hackroms
Another great review from the dweeb. You know, one thing I actually don’t like about the plus model is on the gray DMG version of the original they colored the bezel gray to match the plastic, so it looked like it had no bezels, but on the new one it just has black bezels.
Nice video. I think the Plus looks solid. Yeah custom firmware will bring some helpful stuff, but the original miyoo mini on release was straight trash as well. Not trying to bring whataboutism but as an owner of the mini at launch before Onion was even released to public, thats just the nature of these devices. Not a bad tradeoff to allow people to spend 50 bucks and play thousands of games they dont own, lol.
Regarding the performance boost though, it still does help the retro systems for anyone that uses resource demanding features like a combination of shaders and filters, runahead to help alleviate latency, etc. Same reason playing snes on an rk3566 device feels bettee than going back to an rk3326 that can also run the games. As far as lack of analog, thats a no go for n64 but theres tons of psp and dreamcast that dont need them. Rpgs and fighting games are some of the most popular genres to revisit on psp and have many of the low resource demand games that this thing could actually play. Dreamcast also has tons of dpad friendly games considering it is partially popular for the excellent arcade ports which all used digital controls. For every Sonic Adventure, you have a Soul Calibur. Miyoo Mini Plus is still great (and oddly enough is the one i own despite my comment here), but i still see value in the rg35xx plus. Just maybe not worth upgrading from the prior.
Do you recommend getting the 128GB or the 64GB?
If you plan on adding your own games and doing OS updates, go for the 64, and then replace it with your own bigger card eventually. If you're sticking with the included games and system go for the 128.
So it's got enough power to run those more advanced systems, but it just doesn't stick 😁
They have announced 35XX H, which will be a horizontal device and will comfortably implement two analog sticks. Which sounded great to me at first - then I figured that H700 and RK3266 are quite evenly matched. What an advancement!
On the other hand, AFAIK Rockchip doesn't really share their sources, Allwinner does and, if the price is right, I'll be interested in that one more. Having enough power for more advanced systems, yet lacking in controller department would annoy the hell out of me.
Haha yeah that's what I thought when I saw the 35XX H. "Hmmm, so, we're getting the 351p again, essentially?"
Thanks for the review. About N64, when you say that most of the games are playable, do you mean at 480p ?
Yup. As long as you use the "Rice" gpu plugin.
This one seems a bit confusing to me honestly. While the extra performance is definitely a nice bonus, it just doesn't make much sense without an analog stick. The Miyoo Mini Plus still seems like the perfect price:performance ratio for the games that you would realistically want to play on that kind of handheld, and it has a very well acclaimed OS. Still feels like that's the budget king for now.
Agreed.
Also agreed. Had the original, liked it, but now I'm happier with the R36S. Its not just for the high-end systems, personally I much prefer the stick for top-down shooters.
I just find it hard to want to play with anything that cramped with a thumbstick in general. I would prefer a horizontal chassis with the left stick on top for those kinds of games, personally.
You still have the option to use analog sticks with a Bluetooth controller though.
Yeah, but that totally defeats the purpose of the device for me. If I'm in a situation where I'm sitting at a table for a while and can use a controller, then I would rather just use my desktop/laptop. Something like the RG35XX or Miyoo Mini would be to take for when I'm in a waiting room or something.
Where do you alter the rice setting? Inlaunch a game and then go into the system menu but cannot see an option to alter the core in use…. They simply don’t show up in game rooms either so I have to launch via retro arch. Thanks for any help!
It's in the retroarch settings. Press the menu button to bring the quick menu settings up while you're in a game, then go down to options>GFX Plugin>Rice. Make sure you then go to the 'overrides' section of the quick menu and select 'save core overrides' so that it is applied to the emulator every time you start it up. You'll need to exit and restart the game for the change to take effect.
Can we have a video on optimization for each game platform. I want to get the most out if my unit, but I am a newb and dont want to mess up... Please.
What bluetooth gamepad would you recomend for this? I would mostly play NES games. Thank you!
I swapped out the original 64 gig card for a 128 samsung card and have been having some latency when moving through menus. Not sure what is going on.
One more amazing vid from Dweeb! I cannot make my eyes see it as the double x plus it makes me think that it is an mmplus
I'm amazed there are so many handhelds. Will you ever run out of handhelds to review?
Also I'm disappointed it didn't come with a HDMI cable. I wish it had the list of preinstalled games. PSone was my favor console of all time.
No, there is even the 35xx H now. A horizontal 35xx. Not yet available but Anbernic has a preview on there YT channel.
best review and best compare that I want
I’ve had it for about 2 months. It keeps freezing on the ANBERNIC start up screen. It’s really annoying and now it won’t charge
I’m always happy to hear about advancement in tech but for this I’d rather go with miyo mini +
I bought the rg35xx plus and regret it. I can’t put the stock os on a new sd card because I have a Mac and not a PC. And the stock sd card won’t work anymore. So I can’t even use it. I’m so glad I still have my miyoo mini plus. Onion OS makes it super easy for Mac.
@@i8ETwell, that's more of an issue with your ability to do perform basic operations than with this device...
@@sonomute you are basically saying that you were successful in putting the stock os that anbernic provides on their site for the rg35xx plus using a Mac, correct? Can you tell us how to do it please? How do you edit the built in partitions that the stock os flashes to your sd card, using a Mac?
@@sonomute hmmm… looks like you don’t know your basic operations either. What a shame that you just like yapping nonsense.
@@i8ET typical apple sheep lol
The way I see it, the MM+ is the more mature and developed handheld, but this is as good as it's ever going to get for the MM+; no amount of Onion updates will ever improve the hardware it's limited to. From a hardware comparison, the 35XX+ is objectively, unquestionably the superior product. However, right now, the 35XX+ feels like a supbar product, with its stock OS and CFW being in the very early stages; however, this is bound to improve over time, and the 35XX+ will only get better and better with each passing week. In a few months' time, the RG35XX+ will truly be the superior product over the MM+ in virtually every conceivable way. In the future, unless Miyoo releases an even better product further down the line, you'll seem rather silly for choosing to buy the MM+ over the 35XX+. That's my 2 cents, anyway.
Very true. I hope the 35xx Plus becomes all it can be. I'll happily replace my Miyoo Mini with it if the OS can catch up to Onion. For me it's more about the experience using the device, rather than the raw horsepower.
Does this have final fantasy tactics pre installed already in it?
Is this the best/cheapest ambernic for gb, gbc, gba? Also if that's all I want to use it for, do I need the extra 128gb storage?
Just brought one of these ...I sooo can't wait to play all those classic games , couldn't care about Dreamcast onwards ...up to ps1 is perfect for me
Got one myself and its so bad right now, until Garlic is done which should fix issues. No sleep state, bluetooth is spotty, N64 isn't optomized yet. Needs some more time to shine.
Is GarlicOS still the way to go for the RG35xx? It's development stalled and it left some thing desires, especialy performance having become worse with one of the later update. And there's Koriki with active development. Does someone know both and can compare?
I just ordered this and I can’t wait to play MVC2
Same
I have the regular RG35XX and find it too small for my hands. The controls feel crammed for adult hands. gave it to my little nephew who loves playing F-Zero SNES version on it. I'm on the look out for a handheld that has bigger screen and can play gamecube games. Odin and steamdecks are too expensive for me
If you're just looking to play GBA and SNES, is there any performance benefit from getting the Plus over the original?
The only benefit, and it's a big one for some people, myself included, is the addition of Wi-Fi so that we can get retroachievements
Does it come with Pokemon games pre loaded? If not, can you add them somehow? I just ordered one lol
How long do you think it will be until a good update will be available?
Is there a way to get this device with the better OS (Garlic?) already installed? Similar to the video you posted with the Miyoo Mini Plus with Onion OS pre-installed.
Not yet, we don't have a good custom OS for this device yet. Maybe someday!
I went with the Mini+ at the beginning of this year, just for NES/GBA/GBC/PS1 purposes.. BUT i accidentally dropped mine a few night ago.. screen cracked, one half is playable, the other is either white light or black screen... someone really need to start making shock absorb cover for these...
Hello I just want to play mame32 games. Which console do you suggest ? (I would like to load my own games on a sd card).
I got one coning tomorrow i cant wait
Does it charge with a standard USB-C to USB-C cable and power brick?
I just bought rgb30 and owned 35xx. I also have Miyoo mini plus. Should I upgrade to 35xx plus?
Software really matters so i recently go for miyoo mini plus. rg35xx plus is good if it has analog stick to use full power of the hardware for play higher end system rest and upto ps1 plays the same in both of the system. miyoo mini plus is still the best choice due to onion os and big community of players
Hi! The Amazon shop link you provided doesn’t bring me anywhere but a plain Amazon home page. Can I please have a link for the plus? 😀
I wouldn't bother. I got one and day 2 it suddenly no longer works. I have a upgraded sd etc. It still will not boot games just gest stuck on the games title screen. I'm hoping when garlic come out for it I'll get a fix.
I hope Miyoo comes out with a Miyoo Mini Plus PRO with a better chipset, bluetooth, and HDMI to compete with this RG35XXPlus. I love my MM+.
That would be epic, especially if it supported Onion right out of the box!
@@TechDweeb I assume the Miyoo Flip will have all those features.
I like to believe that T.Dweeb's insurance policy includes full coverage for damage caused by spilled root beer seeping into USB A holes.
No insurance company would be dumb enough to give me coverage for things that are 100% going to happen by the end of the week!
I ordered a Miyoo Mini Plus about a week before the 35xx Plus got released. I nearly cancelled because of the extra power and the Bluetooth (who even has wired headphones anymore?!) But I realised, as you pointed out, the higher end games tend to need analogue sticks, so having the extra power but no analogue stick seems a bit pointless. These devices as this price point really are/should be aimed at the earlier/more basic/retro games that were designed to be played with a D-pad. So for the sake of Bluetooth, I'll stick with the Miyoo Mini Plus and enjoy the better software.
💯
Weirdly enough, if I'm not mistaken, I don't think the Bluetooth functionality on the RG35XX Plus even allows for bluetooth headphones at the moment. But maybe an official update or custom firmware will make that possible in the future.
@@sergio_henrique if that's the case I'm definitely glad I didn't go for it, as I don't have a need/desire to use a Bluetooth controller!
@@chrisrye13Yea im thinking of getting the MM plus, how is it so far?
@@Medoritchie yeah I love it. For its purpose (up to PS1 games) I really can't fault it. If you want PS2 upwards then for a bit more money, a horizontal device with analogue sticks will likely make more sense, but if you want truly retro games with a retro feel, I really don't see how you'd improve the MM+
Is it possible to transfer games over from these devices to a Steam Deck? I still can't decide between these two. Is there a better option with thumbsticks?
Yup! Game roms can easily be transferred between devices.
TechDweeb!! Can you help me or someone else on here? I have been using my modded vita to play retro games and other stuff. I want to upgrade and get something better but not go over 250$. Should i just get the rp4 pro and wait for it or keep looking? Not trying to go over 250$. I do like to have at least around a 5 inch screen. Or maybe get the ayn odin pro?
Got problem with my miyoo mini plus, my sd card missing all files after charging my miyoo, it still says some GB are used, but nothing can be found when I connect it to my pc, how do i fix it?
Sounds like your SD card is corrupted. I'd suggest you get a new card and install Onion OS fresh.
Honestly this would be a completely perfect device if they threw a lil psp slider on it for dreamcast n64 and psp
I'm 100% with you!
can you solve my issue techdweeb? The gba roms are running perfectly performance wise but there is a audio hiccup now and then, how do you fix it? Should I open my unit up?
Sounds like maybe some sort of slowdown in the system. I would try a fresh SD card to rule that out. And try the new updated OS because there might be a random setting that isn't correct. Also you could try the standalone GBA emulator instead of the retroarch emulator (and vice versa).
I cant update the firmware from a macbook, can you please make a video doing it.
How did you make your menu font bigger? I can barely see it. I noticed yours was easy to read at minute 6:52. Thanks for the videos!
First: Retroarch settings > User Interface > Menu > GLUI
Then save retroarch configuration file from main menu and shut down and then restart retroarch
Then:
Retroarch Settings > User Interface > Appearance > Menu Scale Factor
Set the scale to whatever feels comfortable.
Then save Retroarch config from main menu.
Hope this helps!
