    The pc version was prolly the first computer game I ever played. I remember putting the cd in and hearing the loud droid beep with the startup menu. My dad even found all the cheat codes for it (including the millennium falcon and at-at “chickenwalker”). I never got far into it but flying around mos eisley using an early 2000’s Logitech controller was awesome.

    I recently played for the first time the Steam version and was amazed with how well it holds up not only in gameplay, but also compatibility, with native controller support. Only thing I didn’t like was the lives/continue system, but it was the standard with most of the games LucasArts made back then. Definitely a worthwhile purchase. Great video as always Kelphelp.

      What I don't get with the lives system is a mission failed resets the whole mission but it counts as a lost life, so if you fail the mission you should always abort the mission rather than continue to reset your lives counter.

    I remember playing a retail version of this game on Windows 98 and I’m pretty sure it didn’t have any camera issues or “bouncing” enemies. These problems started after the Windows XP and sadly they were never fixed.

    • @Kelphelp
      @Kelphelp  3 года назад +1

      Its an oversight in the sense where the game was most likely designed to be played at 30, but at 60fps you seem some of the flaws. Many titles suffer through that. Resident evil 4 is one example

    I´m back and forth between the PC and the N64 Version.
    I have both Versions, and while your Video Series might be not about Emulation, it still worth taking a look.
    On the PC i got that Game successfully working with DxWnd, the Problem is, i never could get any Controller working, despite what some Reviews on Steam say.
    I have an Ultrawide too (3440x1440), and seeing this old Game in this Resolution is really cool.
    On the other hand, i just tried out the N64 Version on an Emulator. And what we got here? Upscaling Resolution without a problem, Controller Support as good as it gets from the start. Of course the Framerate was not better then the PC Version, but it was noticeable better then on an actual N64 Console. On specific Emulators you can even disable the Fog. The only problem i found so far is that the Widescreen Hack makes the sides a little "woobly", i didn´t tested that with 21:9 yet.
    So at this point i don´t really know what to keep at this point.
    There is a second Game in the same Engine called "Battle for Naboo". On PC it has even fewer "Hacks" like Rouge Squadron, so best way to play this Game is on a Emulator.

    • @FloppyFred
      @FloppyFred 2 года назад +2

      @@eshoosca It´s over a year ago, i can´t really remember.
      Sadly to me, there is still no definitive N64 Emulator which you can use and then be completely satisfied with the result.
      I am back and forth between Project64, Mupen, Retroarch.
      But i think i will end up with "Rosalie´s Mupen GUI", which is based on Mupen. So far i get good results with this, but didn´t test a lot with N64 Emulation in general the last year.

    I always played it on PC with a joystick (starting with a super cheap Saitek with four buttons back when I bought the big box version and finishing with my current Gladiator NXT). I thought I should mention this: it is impossible to map the left and right triggers on your Xbox controller for this game. Not sure why, but the game does not register these buttons.
    Luckily, I'm playing on an Elite Series 2 controller and use a program called reWASD. This let's you remap buttons on your controller with keyboard/mouse keys, which adds a ton of utility. With this, I was able to map my trigger buttons. Took some tinkering around to find a button layout that felt comfortable to me but once I did, it was a ton of fun to replay this masterpiece!
