I only ever played the N64 version of this game for a number of years, enjoying this game a lot when it was brand new. Seeing this at such a high resolution and a smooth frame-rate is jaw-dropping to me. 0_0
Liberation of Gerrard V.... that mission haunted the hell out of me as a kid Y wing: "Don't worry, we're not so helpless" the amount of times I failed because all the Y wings got shot down... I BEG TO DIFFER! It was then when Lair was released for the PS3 (Also done by Factor 5) I had to wonder what was their deal with "PROTECTING" things
Yes, it's worth noting that almost all of the Rebel NPCs in this game are useless. This game should really be called "Good Luck Doing Everything Yourself" because the rest of Rogue Squadron certainly isn't going to help. The essence of this game is really in escort/protect stuff, but that's a really common trope among game development, not necessarily out of laziness either, the maps in this game a very small and in most cases very hard to get lost in (except Kile II), likely due to the limitations of the N64. It is curious though, the whole protecting stuff trope carried over heavily into Rogue Squadron 2 and 3, as well as Battle for Naboo, which on all accounts are bigger and more technically impressive games. Something interesting to think about.
Editor's Note: During the premiere of this video, RUclips hadn't finished processing the 4K rendering so it started in 1080p instead. The video will be in 4K after the fact.
What's the camera bug you're talking about? I know of one where the camera will just stay put unitl you change the viewpoint, that's how I "fixed" that. The controls on the other hand, I'll probably need to reinstall and set up everything over again to see if I have any issues myself. The biggest issue I had with the controls was getting the game to reconize and use my Xbox controller. I likely won't be able to do anything today or tomorrow, but I'll see if I can't get back to you on this.
@@MARIOGUY789 i still have my gamecube savefile with all my Ace Medals. I'll try to do it and upload it to youtube, i still remember how to get them, just need 1 or 2 weeks
Wish the game was playable. only a few buttons on controller work, and can't you can't pause the game or change camera. every time on first mission, the X wing becomes the size of an ant and the crosshairs is all I'm left with.
@@axxellrezz That's what i've done, but when you press "Start" (Camera change), all it does is completely nuke the distance. it sends the aircraft so far forward that it doesn't even stop. Left with an Ant sized x-wing and requires a hard reset every time.
Awesome quality! Now we just need an All Platinum Medal walk-through of Star Wars Episode 1: Battle for Naboo in 3D 60fps and, this man will have provided us the best quality we'll ever get these N64 Star Wars games in since we'll never get the kind of legit remakes we want if them... 👌😩🤌

The nostalgia on this is one is hitting like a brick wall
The nostalgia is strong here.
Every time Luke crashes into something and dies, Vader hears about it and gets mad that Obi-wan was a worse pilot than Jedi Master.
Ok 16:10 was 110% ai fault 😂 excellent gameplay!!
Yeah, wasn’t really expecting that.

Raid on Sullust was the hard one for me
I pretended that I was taking a joy flight and didn't know about the battle and had to escape
@@goldenboi7685OMG, Raid on Sullust was a pain in the ass!
I got into a dogfight with a TIE Interceptor with an A-Wing. Damn bastard kept on going vertical on me.
Well, of course, they are the 128th TIE Interceptor Squadron for a reason. Then again, I'm thinking of 'Liberation on Gerrard V'. 😂

2160p not 4k not
Having grown up on the N64 version… this is MIND blowing. I had no idea it was on PC too!
Here's a series that could use a remake or at least a remaster
Please no, they gonna ruin it anyway
Remaster yes, but NO REMAKES!
@@AlexKaneROTN with the right developer it can be done. Besides there's not much to ruin, I didn't play the game for the story after all
Feel the nostalgia
this reminds me of when my dog got bad diarrhea because i accidentally fed her my own diarrhea
???????????
Typical, a random dumbass comment
Okay
Yes I loved this game
For some reason nobody has listed the medal screen jingle anywhere.
Can the game be run in 1080p or 2k? 4k is not necessary to me. High FPS greater than 60 are!
How did you get the game to run so well? Mine has that annoying camera bug and the controls pull all the way to the right making the game unplayable.

Rogue Squadron 2 Gold/Ace Medals are much harder
Indeed they are, which is why I don't have any intentions to do them for a long while, if at all.

Esc pauses and start changes camera, if you're using an Xbox controller on PC. I had the same issues.
