I just noticed, the A-wing is power by twin J-77 event horizon engines; I wonder if that's yet another star-wars related 'tip of the hat' to the Germans? The Stuka Dive-bomber of WWII having the actual name Junkers Jumo Ju-87. Just a thought. :)
So could those bombers. Didn't really help though, doubt the Y's would have faired better. Anyway this guy has a good idea way. ruclips.net/video/2g9YfO55n1g/видео.html&t
I always figured it was cuz Y wings were finally just so outdated by the sequel trilogy that they weren't feasible. Remember the Y wing was a Clone Wars ship and the rebels only used them cuz they were cheap and very outdated already lol, it'd be the equivalent to the USA sending MiG-21s into battle
I don't care about the smaller amount of shielding. The A-Wing was and forever will be my favorite Star Wars fighter craft. But then again I've always played a thief or rogue. I prefer fast, nimble, "death by 1000 cuts" to the long windup and covered in so much armor you have no choice but to get hit.
I've always loved the Y-wing. But then, I do like me a tank in any situation. I'd rather be able to soak up damage, and dish out damage. I like the x-wing, don't get me wrong. But if I had my choice, i'd be a Y-wing pilot all the way.
It has a slight lock on with the ion cannon, it will track targets in about a 45 radius in front of the y-wing when you fire it (i think it is the f key if i remember right)
If they ever re-release this came on current-gen consoles, I hope they add the TIE Fighter and TIE Bomber as playable ships. There's certainly plenty of room in the hangar. They could re-use the cockpit interior of the TIE Interceptor for both ships... and with the TIE Bomber, have it armed with Bombs for it's secondary weapon, and Concussion Missiles for it's special ability.
I remember playing this all the time in 2003, mostly over the summer. I acquired and moved on to Star Wars Starfighter later in the year. Haven't played since 2008. I always liked the V wing best because of its rapid fire
For a long time when I played this game, I always thought that the announcer said "peep performance" when talking about the astromech droid in the X-wing. I mean, peeping is exactly what the astromech droids do!
I know it was likely due to it being a secret craft, but I was always disappointed that the Naboo Starfighter didn't get a description like the other ships.
I know! The N1 Starfighter was always my favorite in Rogue Squadron so I was disappointed that they didn’t have a description. Say what you will about Episode 1 (I still loved it) but the N1 is a beautiful ship.
Right?? As a kid I always chalked it up to a technical limitation (which considering the limited space on N64 carts...yeahhh) but the more I think about it, it could equally have been to not spoil anything plot-related from Episode 1. I mean think about it - Rogue Squadron came out in 98, and the cheat for the N1 dropped a year later in 99 before the release of TPM. They had to take precautions to not spoil the movie in case some gamer discovered it in their copy early!
This is a Corellian YT-1300 Freighter... illegally modified with 2 quad-guns... but why are there instead of quad-guns, these other turrets mounted...? bugging me since childhood 😄😅
As great as the Millenium Falcon is, it's a pain trying to get Gold with it. You can't just fire away automatically with the quad guns and expect good results with how shaky the shots can be. At least the 15 homing torpedoes, weapon toggling(it resets the quad gun firing order so top shoots next each time it's pressed), and just plain ramming small targets due to high shielding and armor made it much more viable for that. Also, I believe shots can be a biiiiit more accurate if you go into 1st person... Just remember you're actually sitting on the far right of the ship when you do.
+MrMarket1987 it is more accurate in 1st person, but i'm not sure I would bother using the falcon to get golds on anything but the easier mission (such as the first couple). I always liked the Y-wing the best as it shoots so little that it is by far the most accurate (and if you want a little more firepower you just use the ions) and on Gerrard V you can beat the mission really quickly by taking down the yachts yourself, and use the bombs on those pesky AT-PTs! it also has the best shields and just looks amazing! Downsides are no missiles and its slow speed though :S
Oh, I mean in case someone's going for using it in general; Gotta make the most of your gear. And yeah, I love the Y-Wing the most as is. On the plus side due to the game mechanics, chances are if you can see a target you could lock onto with torpedoes from a distance, you can hit it with your toggled double shot or general auto fire if you aim carefully(and since the Y-Wing is the slowest, you can probably exploit the extra time to keep your distance and snipe at them a bit if you know where to find them). As for the Ion Blaster, it's pretty good for extra firepower and aim in a dogfight, almost acting like a pseudo quad gun shot at full charge, but using it does still count towards the accuracy percentage, so one must be clever with each shot or burst unless you know you can hit a lot of targets at once with Advanced bombs elsewhere. ... I would only disagree on the best shields though. It relies on a droid for recovery, and it doesn't tank quite as much as the Millenium Falcon. Granted it is smaller, so it's easier to avoid certain obstacles at least when laying low for cover.
+MrMarket1987 Funny In my experience the Y-wing was the tougher, but i could be well be wrong! Y-wing is such as under appreciated fighter/bomber i have high hopes for seeing them again in the new starwars rogue one movie!
It's possible they're just as tough as the other then, or maybe I need to get hit more times again and count each, say... rocket hit within a certain timeframe. The thing about the droid does kinda make me favor the Millenium Falcon over the Y-Wing though, since it never stops regenerating health until it goes down as there is no droid to perma-damage. One thing to note(though I suspect you know more given the enthusiasm for the starship); The Y-Wing participated during quite a few important events to say the least, and it's been in service for a LONG time since it even gets used during the Clone Wars when a team led by Anakin Skywalker cripples General Grievous' new battleship with a bombing run. So... Yeah, I agree, it's a great old reliable ship that gets overshadowed by the fame of others, and as Reiken says: "Not quick or flashy, but it gets the job done."
+TheAirborneRogue Okay, I finally returned home and got to try out the two ships. I went to the Raid on Sullust stage, and no matter how many times I tested, the Millenium Falcon was always roughly able to resist 3 more missiles than the Y-Wing. I even tried to prevent the Y-Wing from being hit as often to let its shields recover a bit while deliberately taking more hits in the MF, and the MF still took more hits to take down in total. So... there you go. This was the N64 version by the way. If they're more similar in any other version, I know nothing of it.
Any chance that you can do or know where we can view commentary for crafts in the later games? I enjoy the commentary on each craft and I'm curious what it said about Slave I and other ships etc. on a side note, I love how long the list is for the Falcon's modifications.
If only the game engine supported the A-Wing to its fullest extent. At least in the expanded lore (no idea if canonized) the cannons can rotate 180⁰ and fire behind it. Could've saved my tail a few times.
I remember seeing one of my freinds playing this on an Emulator on his PC, where he preferred the A-Wing and the Snow Speeder. More specifically, their type of performance. Fast & Agile. And are willing to sacrifice "survivability" for that. I on the other hand, prefer the opposite. (in this case, the Y-Wing) Because I'm confident in my marksmanship. My Piloting Skills on the other hand. (such as flying something fast & "twitchy", while being precise as well...) Besides, having Below Average maneuverability (optimally) makes it easier to line up my shots.
I wonder how the game would have gone with B-wings? I know that at this point they didn't have them (please note I am going by the EU timeline, not the disney canon shit), but a faster, better armed Y-wing would have been interesting
+NeidalRuekk I am not sure how well the b wing would have worked in an N64 game as well, it could have been a game breaker... it would have been cool though, i cant think on many starwars games which have them
TheAirborneRogue A lot have B-wings. D-canon now has a prototype with a death star ish laser. But in Rogue Squadron, how to use them? Heavier armoured, torpedo armed but slower X-wings? Weirdly proportioned, bomb equipped faster Y-wings? To be honest they straddle the line between the two. Go against TIE Interceptors and you'll really struggle
NeidalRuekk B-wings are are slower and less maneuverable than Y-wings. They are very difficult to pilot as well according to EU. Thats why they couldnt completely replace Y wings.
The prototype piloted by Ahsoka in Rebels uses the Death Stars' converging stream laser wherein the four wingtip cannons combine into a large beam but it's only used for shooting down Imperial capital ships such as Star Destroyers.
+The Gaming Kitchen I know! that really makes me angry! I wish they had just remade BF2 and added some new maps or something, would have been 100x better
It's as if the v-wing was created exclusively for this game. I have not seen it anywhere else. The B-wing seems to have taken its place for every other star wars flight simulator since then.
Why can we not add our own captions? Auto-generated is God-awful... But thanks for uploading this. The speech on the V-Wing was driving me CRAZY trying to remember it...
I don't really look at a lot at the youtube features, how does the captioning work? I could change the settings if you want to edit them. Would have been cool to see the v wing in some other games and movies etc, its a cool concept. I like the U wings from the new movie though!
TheAirborneRogue Agreed. To answer your question, I believe the option to enable that can be found somewhere in the Creator's Studio. Go there, click on the video, and it should be under something to the effect of "Audio and subtitles".
@TheAirborneRogue Further to the previous comment, I actually was finally able to look at the settings. In the Creator's Studio, click "Video Manager". Press the "Edit" button under this video. Click "Subtitles and CC" under the "Basic info and settings" tab. The option to allow viewers to contribute subtitles, CC, and translated titles should be a short ways down on the right-hand side.

Where do we sign this petition? I'm interested in what you guys plan on adding. If you intend on expanding the hanger to give us more craft, like the B-wing, and maybe the police cruiser and naboo bomber, and give the N1 cluster seeker missiles, *not saying this is what you'll do but I'm just talking hypothetically* I will sign it, especially if it'll allow it to run on windows 7 without cratering after doing a mission.
TheAirborneRogue Wow, I was just guessing. I had a feeling that I at least listed one detail but I didn't think I'd get that lucky and guess almost all of the plans. Still, thanks for the link. Signing petition now,...., as soon as I figure out if I'll need an account for it and if I already have one for the site. *this seems like an interesting cause, one I'd be willing to join*
Okay, I signed the petition. The next question is, will we be able to get enough people to sign it by the September 30th? If not, can we set it up on a different petition site? *basically, the one it's currently on will shut down September 30th, so make sure those who've signed it are aware so they can copy what they've said and paste it into a new petition if it comes down to it*
1: It's "Naboo", like the planet. 2: Yeah, they never gave it a voiceover. I'm guessing it was a last minute addition since the game was in development around the same time that The Phantom Menace was in production, and they decided to put it in there as a hidden easter egg.
Petition for editor is useless; the most (only?) useful thing that could happen would be if someone from ex-Factor 5 people leaked the source code for the pc version. Anyway, I'm working on extracting the 3D models used in the game. If enough of the structure is figured out, the models can be updated at least; but I'm not that far yet.
You should try and find a guy online who goes by LukA_YJK (he has a youtube channel by that name and a moddb page). he is an expert in RS3D and has worked hard working out the games coding. if you look at one of my videos on editing RS3D with his tools you will find a link to his web page with his extractor etc. The petition was started in 2009 and at the time factor 5 was still about and when we enquired they said if there was enough intrest they would relese the tools (i belive they said about 10,000 people on the petition). that is why i started this page at the time as me and LukA were trying to get intrest but the project never went anywhere
TheAirborneRogue I mail with him now and then. I put up a page at satd.sk/web/rs/ collecting the info about the game workings and update it when I figure new stuff out. We should probably ask again; 10.000 is unrealistic and the game is over 15 years old now, maybe they would reconsider. But given that Factor 5 dissolved, it's hard to say if somebody even has a copy of the code anymore?
imclod Yea, i am not too hopful about getting tools, between 2009-2011 i tried quite hard to get support for the petition, setting up this channel, making videos, messaging large youtubers with RS3D videos (who all appart from one said no to even adding the link to the petition to their video), for whatever reason people don't want to know (which is funny because rs3d vids get a lot of views). we should try see if it is possible though i would love to FINNALY get this sorted!
TheAirborneRogue Uploaded a video of xwing model rendered through a simple model viewer that I made to show how far am I with the reverse-engineering process, and I joined the Lucasforums to share the info. At least some upgrades should be possible even without source code.
Good to hear! i checked out your page and I am quite impressed, there may be hope for this game yet :) You should make a page on moddb and link it to RS3D to gain some intrest
+DavidELD The ion cannon tried (pathetically) to auto aim at enemies in front, but it was pretty useless. It's not really clear if he was speaking about the ion cannon though (if not then no, it was not a thing)

So many memories. I was too poor to get an Xbox when I was little so this was all I had.
Still wondering why they didn't use Y-wings for the bombing run in the Last Jedi. They can take a hit.
Amen, or B-Wings... or K-Wings... or just about anything other than that Old Republic-based piece of crap '¬¬
The bombers they used could carry nearly a thousand bombs. The Y wing can hold 20. They needed that extra fire power.
Cool, but it has even LESS maneuverability than a TIE Bomber, apparently
So could those bombers. Didn't really help though, doubt the Y's would have faired better.
Anyway this guy has a good idea way.
ruclips.net/video/2g9YfO55n1g/видео.html&t
I always figured it was cuz Y wings were finally just so outdated by the sequel trilogy that they weren't feasible. Remember the Y wing was a Clone Wars ship and the rebels only used them cuz they were cheap and very outdated already lol, it'd be the equivalent to the USA sending MiG-21s into battle
@ModestDollesin i love the Y wing, its just so cool. the V wing is good if you have the guided missiles but the rapid fire is usless...
Not if you are playing it on PC, it is OP af.
I love the Y wing. My personal fav
Ahh, I see someone is finely cultured! @@Dwayne4007
A pilot after my own heard. Always been an A-Wing guy as well.
This guys voice was better than the other guy in the other two
Excellent fighters. My favorites are the x-wing and y-wing
I've always loved the Y-wing. But then, I do like me a tank in any situation. I'd rather be able to soak up damage, and dish out damage. I like the x-wing, don't get me wrong. But if I had my choice, i'd be a Y-wing pilot all the way.
Same! The ion cannon in this game makes up for a lot of its lack of fire power (but having a turret gunner would be great in a real fight)
where is the computer assisted autofire system
It has a slight lock on with the ion cannon, it will track targets in about a 45 radius in front of the y-wing when you fire it (i think it is the f key if i remember right)
I thought it was hold n release C> ?
If they ever re-release this came on current-gen consoles, I hope they add the TIE Fighter and TIE Bomber as playable ships. There's certainly plenty of room in the hangar. They could re-use the cockpit interior of the TIE Interceptor for both ships... and with the TIE Bomber, have it armed with Bombs for it's secondary weapon, and Concussion Missiles for it's special ability.
Is that Porkins in the cockpit of the V-Wing?
I remember playing this game over 2 decades ago and listening to the descriptions inside the hanger.
I remember playing this all the time in 2003, mostly over the summer. I acquired and moved on to Star Wars Starfighter later in the year. Haven't played since 2008. I always liked the V wing best because of its rapid fire
"Rapid fire mode engaged!"
Y-Wing till i die baby

For a long time when I played this game, I always thought that the announcer said "peep performance" when talking about the astromech droid in the X-wing.
I mean, peeping is exactly what the astromech droids do!
🤣 I never thought of that!
The music is so good. Loved this game so much as a kid.
I wish they'd added the E-Wing in.
Whenever I read something, a book, a newspaper, these comments, ANYTHING. Neil Ross’s voice is how I hear it mentally because of this game.
0:39 Cylon Raider?????
I wanna run this voice through an Ai and script voicelines for star citizen ships
The A-Wing is my personal favorite ship in this game.
Have you crashed it into a Star Destroyer yet?
love this. would have been so cool if they had headhunters.
Well excuuuuuse me for having a starship that killed the Death Star II
X:
Thanks for the insights, Colonel Volgin.
Greatest flight game ever penned

Can’t wait for Star Wars: Squadrons!
This is a Corellian YT-1300 Freighter... illegally modified with 2 quad-guns... but why are there instead of quad-guns, these other turrets mounted...? bugging me since childhood 😄😅
Miss all these ships not being on Star Wars Battle Front deluxe edition and battle front 2 AS D.L.C
this iz my classic asmr n64
Who else remember putting in the cheat code to turn . . . I think it was the V-wing into a car?
Can't do it on PC, but you are right!
I avoided doing it period because it crashes the game when you pause while flying it
The TIE Strike of Rogue-1 resembles a TIE Interceptor with the upper claw panels removed and the lower panels reoriented to lie flat.
This! Was my first N64 game ever. Along with Star Wars Racer.
although this was better :P
Rogue Squadron through-the-ages
Prequel Era (Episodes 1-2-3, The Force Unleashed, Rebels, Rogue One): Naboo N-1, Delta-7 Aethersprite, Eta Actis, Headhunter, Y-Wing, A-Wing, B-Wing, T6 Shuttle, V-Wing Alpha Nimbus
Second Trilogy (Episodes 4-5-6, X-Wing game series, Rogue Squadron, Rebel Assault): A-Wing, B-Wing, X-Wing, Y-Wing, Lambda T-4A Shuttle, YT-1300 Blockade Runner, Skyhopper, Snowspeeder, Buick Electra
Third Trilogy (Episodes 7-8-9, Battlefront): T-70 X-Wing, Resistance Transport, V-Wing Airspeeder
I died a little inside when b-wings weren't included I love everything about them.
This man should introduce the new recruits to the fighter they will be flying in the new Rogue Squadron movie.
Yeah... About that...
@@Straswa I know I know….
No Naboo starfighter?
Jorge Reyes it was a Bonus Easter egg and the game came out before episode 1 so it was a little teaser.
@@griz312 the starfighter was so well hidden that the devs came out and said that it was in the game as soon as phantom menace came out.
When Factor 5 put in the Naboo Starfighter in Rogue Squadron, they only had concept art to go off of at the time, so its lore wasn't established yet
More content than Battlefront. A game that came out 17 years later.......
This was the second appearance of the V-wing with the first being the Dark Empire comics.
It’s technically a New Republic vessel
*****
Cool, that should be it now. There is a link so i am not 100% sure you can edit without it being sent to you.
Have a look and if you can't i'll send u it if you need it
Worked like a charm. The subtitles should be in your inbox any moment now.
Huge thanks for allowing me to do this; it really is appreciated so much.
Y-Wing for life.
Yes, Naboo starfighter... it shoots fast
Well you hit 99% of the plan on the head: www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?swrs3d&...
TheAirborneRogue
Wow, I was just guessing.
Anyone else remember the cheat to turn the V-Wing into a flying Cadillac or something?
More games should have someone narrating the descriptions of ships, mechs, cars, guns, ect.
That’s Airen Cracken is t it?
Who is the voice that is announcing each fighter also if you put in the Corvette car he also talks about the Corvette
My top 3 were the Y-wing, X-wing, and Speeder. My least favorite was the A-wing.
i was the opposite, A-wing was my fave to use, then v-wing and x-wing
Which speeder? Technically speaking the v wing is a speeder (not to be confused with the Clone Wars v wings)
I love this game, Y-wing all the way. :)
if you update the game on the PC you get it or if on the N64 you type in 2 cheat codes
Who voiced these lines? I’m looking for an AI tool of this voice for narrations. Love the narrating style.
I looked it up, he was a guy called Terence McGovern. He plays crix madine in the rogue squadron series.
anyone know what emulator for android can play this game? i have mupe but it dosent work
Okay, I signed the petition. The next question is, will we be able to get enough people to sign it by the September 30th? If not, can we set it up on a different petition site? *basically, the one it's currently on will shut down September 30th, so make sure those who've signed it are aware so they can copy what they've said and paste it into a new petition if it comes down to it*
The announcer is Colonel Volgin from Snake Eater lmao
you forgot the taboo starfighter
never got a voice over... guess it was taboo!
Only unlocked with a cheat code, so no surprise.
1: It's "Naboo", like the planet.
2: Yeah, they never gave it a voiceover. I'm guessing it was a last minute addition since the game was in development around the same time that The Phantom Menace was in production, and they decided to put it in there as a hidden easter egg.
i never got the computer assisted auto fire system on the y wing
The auto fire is for the ion cannon, least I think
TheAirborneRogue
I mail with him now and then. I put up a page at satd.sk/web/rs/ collecting the info about the game workings and update it when I figure new stuff out. We should probably ask again; 10.000 is unrealistic and the game is over 15 years old now, maybe they would reconsider. But given that Factor 5 dissolved, it's hard to say if somebody even has a copy of the code anymore?
imclod
Yea, i am not too hopful about getting tools, between 2009-2011 i tried quite hard to get support for the petition, setting up this channel, making videos, messaging large youtubers with RS3D videos (who all appart from one said no to even adding the link to the petition to their video), for whatever reason people don't want to know (which is funny because rs3d vids get a lot of views). we should try see if it is possible though i would love to FINNALY get this sorted!
TheAirborneRogue
Uploaded a video of xwing model rendered through a simple model viewer that I made to show how far am I with the reverse-engineering process, and I joined the Lucasforums to share the info. At least some upgrades should be possible even without source code.
Good to hear! i checked out your page and I am quite impressed, there may be hope for this game yet :) You should make a page on moddb and link it to RS3D to gain some intrest
Wish I had that guy's voice
okay, the auto fire feature for the Y-Wing. That wasn't an actual thing in game right?...
+DavidELD The ion cannon tried (pathetically) to auto aim at enemies in front, but it was pretty useless. It's not really clear if he was speaking about the ion cannon though (if not then no, it was not a thing)
