Welcome back to Quick Compare! Sorry about that week off but we are back and ready for more! Today's episode features Star Wars Rogue Squadron PC vs Nintendo 64. Rogue Squadron is a fantastic game that I feel more people should enjoy! the game has seen re release on both Gog and steam in the last couple of years, so the ability to get a hold of the game and actually get it running has never been better! Which version will come out on top?

What are your favorite things about Rogue Squadron?!
Archades Games probably the cheat codes. Being able to fly a Buick Electra, playing the secret missions, unlocking the TIE Fighter and Millennium Falcon.
Like the commentary of the guy explaining the missions
Darian 64 oh the Buick! What a fun time!
Kaiju Jedi Master 88 they were the perfect little mission intros!
Yes yes they were oh the memories
I remember playing it years after it was released, so my PC could handle it quite well. I was instantly amazed by how smooth it was. Back in those days I didn't know about framerate and such, but I could feel it.
Yeah, my PC at the time couldn't handle it either. I am glad the N64 version is finally able to be emulated cuz now you can have the good graphics and the harder difficulty and no camera bug!
I'm trying to see the visual differences between the two versions of the game. But, thanks to the music in the video, I can't even see through my own tears! Is there a memorial service taking place in your house?!
This game is awesome even today. I remember it being super hard.
Andy's Hat it is a good one!
I'll try the PC version, and see if I have a better chance of beating this game.
Well done! I also love this game and I appreciate what you said about the AI on the PC version being off. I was able to get so much farther in the Steam version than on the N64 version. I thought I got better at playing the game lol. I just hate that POV glitch on the PC version. I have an EON Super 64 HDMI adapter hooked up to an HDMI upscaler for my N64 so the visuals look amazing on modern TVs. I also love the N64 version because again I hate that POV glitch on the PC and I love the ease of the plug and play nature of the console version also I love seeing what the N64 was capable of doing.
Thanks, with N64 emulation coming along finally we may soon have the best of all worlds for performance, resolution, and gameplay!
Man I played the hell out of this game on N64! So happy that it FINALLY works on teh Project 64 emulator, all the Factor 5 games are like so hard to emulate! Unfortunately Rogue 2 and 3 on Gamecube are so hard to emulate also!
Idk for me I grew up with the pc version so I'm gonna say the pc version. And this is coming from primarily a console gamer, mainly nowadays I play retro games and modded games on pc and play next gen/current gen games on console either on my PS4 or Xbox One.
BTW: "Flying is for droids."
If you run the PC version on period hardware it runs a lot better aka less buggy then on modern stuff. Might make for an interesting second look.
Are there any way to use a PS4 or Xbox one controller with the pc version of Star Wars Rogue Squadron?
Xbox One controllers have worked fine for me from fresh installs
My favorite part is the one where ice shouts "Where are your aiming!!"
The PC version looks and runs substantially better. I played it right after release in 1998 or 1999, on a Pentium 233 MMX and Voodoo Banshee. I ran it at 1024x768 in Glide back then, and it was very smooth.
What is the music playing in the background?
They really shit the bed, the other two rogue squadrons on GameCube coulda shoulda been released for pc by now. I supposed no body has done an overhaul mod
Yeah, I'd love for this to happen.
I only watched the first level, but is the AI that much easier or is it that flying with better controls makes the game a lot easier? I think TIEs being faster and more maneuverable when you have clunky controls makes the AI seem harder...
A.I. really is that much worse on PC. They don't shoot at things half the time and hard levels like Sullust are a cake walk comparitively. Controls are comparable to me when you have a decent N64 controller.
I am looking for a childhood game not sure if this is the one .. if you hit the ground and Double click space u slip around and u can okay multiplayer?
Please verify
That isn't this game
@@ArchadesGames sigh
Disney is insane not to either remake or make a new rogue squadron.
Pretty much
It ran like sh!t on my P200 with Voodoo Rush. When I saw a stand with N64 in one of the supermarkets with Rogue Squadron and I saw how much better it worked, I felt jealous ;)
It wouldn't even run on my PC back in the day at all 😅
@@ArchadesGames I couldn't get past fourth mission - it was so choppy I could not play at all, I guess single digit FPS :D I love to play it now with xbox controller, feels so good :)
Yeah it is very smooth!
Hey hey on PC which version did you have on steam or origin or which
I have the game on Steam, GOG, and original disk
@@ArchadesGames well done video I subbed however I bought the steam Edition and everything but the controls was great the control specifically let me down severely so I'm just curious if I buy it on Origin if that's better to play with say on Xbox controller
It is the same game no matter where you pick it up.
hi star wars rogue sqaudron time skip de quantos years pra lo filme return of the jedi ???
Ahh, the good ol cartridge melter itself! This game is glorious. Nobody uses it but the first person view Is well integrated and intensely fun. Same can be said about changing the fire rate or using the Ion on Ywings.
The original entry has some good depth to it not found in the later entries!
i love using the first person!
What sbout controls
This is where the fun begins
Pro Gamer May I remind you the odss of successfully navigating an astroid field are...
Guess I must suck cause this game kicks my ass on pc
Djnerdyboy I think I just play it to much 😂
You can never play a good game too much.
No truer words have ever been spoken!
What does your wingman do to crash on Tatooine the same time every time? I always found that puzzling.
Rogue Squadron was [marginally] enhanced for PC no doubt, perhaps enough to be worth checking both versions out depending on whether you have an N64 to begin with. What I think: it was made for N64, that version is full-featured (at least with Expansion Pak), it's sequels are Nintendo-exclusive, therefore I consider it the definitive. For those of us with just Rogue Squadron 3D, though, we still have a very good deal.
I'm actually interested in a slimmer contrast: Battle for Naboo. I do not yet own either version; from what I've read there are one or two slight enhancements for the PC version but nothing standing out that would make it worth owning for anyone who has an N64. But there's reading, then there's seeing & hearing.
Battle for Baboo is nice on PC. No camera bug and everything performs the same as the N64 version but with higher fidelity. Does take some registry tweaking to get it to run on modern systems though.
@@ArchadesGames Naboo and the controls were terrible as far as i remember. I had this really, REALLY crappy pc joystick that lacked sticks. might just be me though
I play it with Xbox One and a Tribute 64 and have 0 complaints personally.
@@ArchadesGames can you invert the controls on the pc version of Rogue squadron?
Yeah
It's the perfect Star Wars game.
Definitely top tier!
Camera bug makes the PC version damn near unplayable. Been waiting for an N64 emulation forever but it's apparently problematic.
It finally works well in N64 emulation! It just needs a really powerful computer though..
Pressing F1 when the camera bug happens, fixes it!
That just changes the view it can still crop back up.
@@ArchadesGames oh, the bug I have is different: the ship goes away from the camera until its veeeery tiny
How does your N64 version look like that? Im playing it right now and its blocky as all hell
This was recorded with a framemeister upscaling it to 1080P
sin duda mi juego favorito es star wars rogue squadron :)
¡Es uno de mis favoritos también!
"Arcade flight sim..." :)
I'm going with pc version.
Thumbs up
Pat O'Malley thank you!
Lol the N64 version run at 15 fps...
FPS isn't everything
I lost the disc for rouge squadron on pc :( but thank Zeus they have it on steam
Ahhh man, that is the worst... I am glad it is on Steam and GOG as well!
Pc master race :v /
Señor Dossier depends on the game really.
