The screen isn't even the coolest thing about it imo and it's still brilliant. Vibrant, colourful games like Zelda, Smash Bros, Pokémon and more look incredible.
@@B727X Heck if I know. I don't know Nintendo's reasoning for going with one screen type over the other. My first guess would be manufacturing costs. Do you know why Sony went from OLED to LED with the PS Vita?
If you only occasionally play on the go and usually play in docked mode then the difference isn't that big. But if you play mostly or only handheld like I do then the Switch pro is a gamechanger! It literally feels like a "switch pro" in terms of increasment in quality, immersion and colors.
@@cartierr7485 what kind of games are you into? I play lots of first person shooter games. I also spend a lot of time playing animal crossing and breath of the wild
BRO, how do you have less than 100k subs...... like your quality and presentation are as good as the best of them instant sub from me. Congrats on hitting the algorithm right with this vid, as it looks like you are getting some recognition for your effort. When switch launched I was scared of it being underpowered and thought my money would be best saved for the first hardware refresh where framerates would be a little smoother. The OLED was a tad underwhelming when announced, but I was finally released of any buyers remorse. So i grabbed the preorder.
The OLED feels like what the launch switch should have always been, polished and refined. Gone are the crappy kick stand and ugly screen bezels, plus there is a beautiful screen. Build quality has been improved a lot in general, and I'm not worried about my plastic vents cracking over time. Not to mention the switch in general fills a niche I have, of wanting to tote a home console to a friends house for couch co-op/party games. I keep the genki covert dock and switch in my backpack at all times. This means that if I grab a bag of controllers on my way out the door I have everything I need for the ultimate game night with the homies.... ON THEIR TV.... TLDR: Your content is awesome, I judged the switch to harshly at launch, OLED fixes problems I feel the og never should have had, switch is great buy one
Thanks dude! Much appreciated. And.yes, I was a bit underwhelmed at first. It wasn't until I had the SWOLED in my hands and in front of me that I really saw it for what it was: a polished and refined iteration of the OG Switch with a beautiful screen. I don't regret buying it.
One thing I really like with the Switch is that if you purchase the physical game card, it does not use the the internal memory of the Switch. I have a PS5 and it is always an issue for me when I purchase the physical game disc but I still need to store 50-100 GB of data to the console as well.
The only time the game uses internal storage is for patches and updates to the base game. The cool thing is that the latest versions of cartridges typically have all the patches and updates on them. Those are the ones that don't take up any internal storage (aside from save data.)
This device is so awesome. There are many portable options out there but the Nintendo Switch OLED, in my opinion, is the standard on how a portable console should be. I love the bluetooth (with Apple airpods pro) and is amazing with their noise cancelling feature. Great review/re-review, natural, organic and very close to how it feels, one year later, this console.
I got the older nintendo switch I don't really care about a oled to be honest this because everyone forgetting we didn't care when we had a gameboy we still played for hours it's all about the nintendo games for me =-)
@@azurekite3870 I could've saved money on a laptop too but I bought Asus ROG Strix Scar 18 intel core i9 13th Gen, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 12GB, 32GB RAM. I don't save bro lol
Thinking of upgrading from my day 1 switch to the OLED, so helpful video! I got a new job where I’ll be traveling a lot more and I think the OLED screen will be a game changer on the go.
Hey! Thanks that! Congrats on the new job. The OLED for travel makes a lot of sense. I travel a lot as well, so the Switch overall was great. The OLED adds that premium feel.
I’ve been debating on getting one. I’ve got the original gray Switch and I don’t usually play it in handheld mode. Seeing as how the dock isn’t updated to perform any differently than the original, I don’t see much of a need in upgrading to the OLED. I also have a hunch that in the near future Nintendo will be announcing the next new and improved Switch console that will also upgrade the dock with the OLED screen. For those reasons I think I’m going to wait. I love the OLED screen, though. I have an LG C1 OLED and I will never be able to play on anything less than that. The image quality and performance enhances it offers is incredible.
Definitely agree. If you're playing mostly docked, then there's no reason to upgrade. I have an LG G1 and I loooooove it for gaming. Never thought I'd enjoy my viewing experience as much as I do with my G1.
@@baldlyrudy I felt the same way. I can never go back to lesser model TVs now. LG is on top of their game, no pun intended, when it comes to their gaming lineup of TVs. I don’t know if any other company can compete with them right now. Do you think having a 4K output on the Switch dock would make that much of a difference in image quality for Nintendo specific IP’s because of the art style they choose to make their games in?
Agreed. Especially since LG is the only OLED manufacturer in the TV space. Samsung does have the QD-OLED TVs, but it's still in it's infancy. It could potentially be better in the future. I think Nintendo should use DLSS with Nvidia's silicon. That would make sense. And 4K technology is pretty old at this point. I'd like to believe that most people have a 4K display. As to whether or not it'll affect Nintendo's games is a whole different thing. I think Nintendo's priority IS the quality of the game (mechanics, ease of entry to games, high skill ceiling, etc.) I think resolution is the last thing on their mind. If anything, I think the next hardware refresh will be 720-1080 handheld/1440-4K docked with DLSS all over it.
I mean if you don't mind that most of the switch oled screen has an issue call green tint, that basically makes grey dark areas look green. If you don't mind that, you can get one
The OLED was my first switch and I love it so much I got my kids a V2 Switch so we can play the games we like. Love that it can be played handheld as well as docked.
As a handheld player the Switch OLED was such a big upgrade, it feels better, joycons have yet to experience drift and the screen. Oh my god the screen is so much better, not only do I like the bigger size but the colours are so beautiful. I'm so happy I made the update for relatively cheap. ($220 with TOTK.)
i got my switch oled 1 year after i got my old oringinal switch i should of got it day 1 on the 1st day its out also i just hate the old switch in handheld mode screen size cuz its soo too small and the graphics are so wash out and the sound is garbage with a built in speakers but in gaming moniter or tv mode its looks great and the sound is so much better i like the switch lite for handheld but i dont like the speakers and the screen is still so small like 1 inch bigger then the old o.g. switch
I just picked up the new Zelda OLED, and I think you hit the nail on the head. The difference in screen is really noticeable, not only in quality, vibrancy and blacks, but also in size. The kickstand is an enormous improvement as well. And as for the sound, the audio out of the OLED model speakers was considerably better than the ones out of my OG Switch imo.
Nice! Congrats on the Zelda OLED! That thing looks gorgeous. It's hard to convey how good the screen looks through a video. It's definitely something that has to be seen with the naked eye to be truly appreciated.
I was going to buy Zelda Oled switch but not I’m thinking about buying splatoon switch Oled. I don’t care for the game but the splatoon switch Oled looks beautiful. I really like the colours and pattern on joy cons. But I like the doc of Zelda and I like the back of other Oled more. I decided on splatoon Oled because imho the joycons look the best out of all Oled. While a nice dock like Zelda is great, I prefer to have the Oled with better looking joy cons. I think Sony did the designs on purpose. Making 1 switch have better dock and 1 having better looking joy cons and better design on back, makes people like myself, consider buying both. But no, I’ll buy 1, the splatoon. I’d love to have Zelda dock with splatoon switch lol
I had a similar experience... my original Switch (bought it day 1 :D) is working fine...I didn't feel the need to buy the OLED version, even though the VITA had an OLED screen and it was a great experience. However, it all changed recently when I actually saw the OLED version in a friend's house. When I was at Gamescom, soo many people were playing on the OLED... Soo a few weeks later I bought one I splurged for one too. It's a nice upgrade :D, Nintendo made great choices to enhance the experience haha.
They literally chose to withhold most of the upgrades we actually wanted though. It needs a true next-gen upgrade. I'm just saying, they did the bare minimum if even.
@@kidamnesiak1 yeah, I can agree with that. Probably so that there is no real power difference between the Switch versions... Hopefully they will be a new Switch 2 next year or the year after :).
I saw it at the store and was tempted to buy, then I realized I should be patient and wait for the inevitable "Pro" or whatever the true upgraded version will be called. Its just simply not worth it.
Hey I was thinking of getting the Oled for my son, will all his switch games work on the oled or will I need to repurchase? Also what about the games he's bought and Downloaded can they be transferred to the oled?
I still have the v1 switch. I mostly play docked mode and only play handheld when the tv is being used or I'm outside. Battery was never an issue to me because I don't usually play for longer sessions. Mostly played 2-3 hours just enough how the battery lasts. I never had joycon drift yet maybe because I don't play aggressively. I think I don't need to upgrade for now. Maybe in 2 years i might but for now I'm satisfied with my v1 switch
That's great! Honestly, my V1 is still chugging along. Once my son got interested in gaming, I decided to get myself a new one and give him my V1. It's still going strong, but I did need to change the Joycons and get a new kickstand for it.
@@user-vk7nn1ow5b Right now I'm playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Trying to finish it so I can enjoy Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but I need to finish Torna - The Golden Country first. 😅
burn in is non problem since you actually have to run the same image for a whole year to even make a dent on the screen so basically impossible with normal gameplay
Thank you! Dang! Game crashes are scary for a console. That screen though. 😍 Also, heck yeah the kickstand is amazing! Tabletop mode is actually useable. 😂
Thanks, I just picked up an OLED and Zelda along with Mario car 8. I love the screen the build, the kick stand. Didn't realize though Nintendo took away free to play online for a paid subscription.
You're welcome! The OLED's screen is phenomenal. The kickstand is also a big win in my eyes. Nintendo going to a subscription model for online was odd, but I think it was eventually inevitable.
@@baldlyrudy it would be nice to be able to download game cube games, this system should be able to run them right? I would love to play second sight again.
It's 100% worth the extre 50 bucks over the original. But, it was too expensive to begin with. Especially, with the likes of the Stream Deck only costing an extra 70 over the Oled Model. But, the screen on the Steam Deck doesn't deserve a place in the same room as the switch Oled. Plus, the Steam Deck isn't exactly small.
The Switch joycons weren't cheap to make. There's a lot of tech packed in them. Bluetooth, IR sensor, gyro, accelerometer, hd haptics, rechargeable batteries, nfc reader. Onboard controls are much cheaper, so Valve could put that money into a more powerful SOC. And most people bought the mid tier model. What the Switch lacked in gpu power, it made up for with features, and ways to play. But most people don't see the big picture, especially PC gamers.
I went for the OLED after my launch switch started to give out. I owned that switch for almost 5 years! it was time to upgrade anyways, and I am very happy with the OLED. I’m hoping Nintendo doesn’t release a pro model for a while lol.
@@baldlyrudy the only part of the process that was inconvenient was the transfer of save data for games that didn’t sync to the cloud. I almost lost ALL of my Pokémon data, which had Pokémon from my original games (since 95!) - I would have been legit devastated if that happened, but I got lucky and accidentally did it. just be weary, you need to manually transfer Pokémon game data since it does not sync to the cloud!
@@baldlyrudy There is absolutely NO drift At all for me. I always make sure mine is cleaned every 2 weeks for dust that can get trapped under the thumb sticks. It also helps to keep it covered when you’re not using it. You won’t get drift if you take very good care of it.

Got the Lite in 2022 and I loved it. But wanted to have the OLED as well so I got it in August 2024. I know the next Switch is close, but I regret nothing. 🫶🏻😅
Hello, I'm thinking of buying a new console, do you think the Nintendo switch oled is ideal for me? Since I like to play FIFA, adventure and car games and also family games.
Still feel this was just another cash grab by Nintendo. Minimal upgrades for 350 bucks. Should have just made the switch pro people have actually been asking for.
Agreed that's why I still haven't gotten one. Plus it can't be jailbroken so imo you're better off getting something equally as portable but with Android.
i bought mine about 2 weeks ago now, never owned a switch, infact last nintendo console i owned was a 3ds, i am in love with the switch oled, its amazing, sure it doesnt run games as good as my PC and sure its 720p but for a handheld console its good enough.
Just wanted to say for how small you are this is amazing video quality and if you keep it up and make sure to promote more whether it be through tiktok or whatever you will def make it. Great video
People freaking out about drift fixed I got my og switch in 2020 and the stick will not click in on one of the sticks but both have never gotten drift and they have been sitting on my shelf collecting dust for 1 year. My other ones that I bought after oled released drifted within 1 month so I whent back to the undrifting broken ones
I just got one a few weeks ago, white one which I had a choice between white and the red and blue OLED to me the white one looks better than the red and blue one no big deal if I want red and blue I order me those joy cons colors or at least the silicone case for them. I'm wondering if the joy cons sold on Ali Express is a good buy but they are knockoffs and there's a worry it might kill my switch somehow.
I never bought an original switch, and I bought an oled 2 months ago as my first Nintendo console since the original wii. I love it. I play it on my TV 90% of the time, and I can grab it and go for my business trips. I got a 2 year no questions asked replacement policy on it for $79, so screw it... I take this baby everywhere on business trips. Nothing like playing 3-man Golden Sun with everyone in the seat row on a 5 hour flight.
That’s what I’ve witnessed with a few of mines. I sent my first model off to Nintendo for repair. I got the same body back but a new screen. Grabbed the Splatoon OLED and it has the same issue over time. Cons I’ve found: It’s a slight heavier than the OG switch. Outdated software, still no 4K. I have several models but I still recommend the Oled model.
@@CoreyDunmore it sounds like it might be a software issue to do with the screen calibration, apple & samsung phones have had this problem in the past but were fixed with updates. let's hope it's the same here.
I honestly love my OLED I’ll be at about a year and a half… roommate has the animal crossing and I can definitely notice an upgrade overall with the OLED. Seems sturdier and screen seems better to me… only thing I don’t like is the cartridge I feel like I have to be careful to not accidentally rip it off while switching games. Definitely worth it in my opinion overall tho!
I recall a covered accessory receiver in the bottom of the original NES; in Japan a variety of controllers supported it but in the USA nothing was really done. The same could happen to the rear receiver of the Switch OLED.
Fortunately I was able to get a oled late last year. Though I have owned almost all of Nintendo's consoles aside from the GameCube I was never into their handhelds which is why I stayed away from the switch. Now I'm glad that I have it especially since I just picked up dread a couple of weeks ago on sale...👍😁
Ooof man. Enjoy Dread. I absolutely loved it. I have every Nintendo console except for the N64. The handhelds were always a big thing growing up, but I fell off with the original DS. I did pick up a 2DS near the end of the 3DS lifecycle. Good times man. Nintendo was innovative there.
Thank you for the review it helped me so much te know more about the oled , i was wondering if it was worth it and now i have positive feeling about buying it .❤
Only thing I don’t like about it is the green tint issue on the left side of my screen. I’ve had 2 of them and they’ve both had the issue. Other than that, the screen is beautiful and big.
@@SkyleonMK7 Damn, I got it too. . I've had it for a year so I doubt that nintendo would do anything. Haven't noticed in gameplay though so I'll prolly just pretend I never found out
Hi BR, I really enjoyed your video. I just bought the OLED Bundle at Costco. Has a lot more goodies included. It's for a gift so I can't play it yet. Good stuff. Thanks! -David
I've the OLED since day one. It was announced about the same time the Steam Deck was as I recall. I was excited and preordered both within the same week. Fast forward a year later... I still love it. The OLED model is a premium purchase, but the chassis is metal, not plastic, so that adds to the overall feel of quality with it. The screen looks fantastic and it's under glass, unlike the ISP screen that is under plastic. There's a few reasons the OLED is a great buy and a good upgrade if you're in the market. The 64gb internal storage upgrade is very nice too. A lot of people are commenting that at this point, the Switch is underpowered and needs a revision. To that I say: the Switch is the same powerful device it was in 2017 and is therefore not underpowered, and those that believe it is, just have self imposed expectations they're driving into a device that has remained unchanged. The Switch is a great platform, form and function. The games library is so massive that I'll likely never finish the games I have, let alone keep up with the games that are constantly pouring out. This is the first video I've seen of this nature, not to say it's the only one. I like what you touched on here. Good review and information that I would have used moving forward, were I in the market. Oh, I went from playing about 60/40 handheld to about 95/5 handheld with the OLED. It's THAT good.
Thanks for the comment! I just recently got a Steam Deck. It targets a completely different audience. The Switch is great, but only with properly optimized and well coded games (looking at the most recent Pokemon game specifically). What a lot of people forget is that the Switch is a handheld that happens to have connectivity to a television. It's never going to be as powerful as a PS4/5 or Xbox.
@@baldlyrudy That is correct. I have an Xbox Series S and I can't find a PS5 or I'd have that. I'm holding off until Christmas, giving my wife an opportunity to get me a Deck. Otherwise, I'll buy one myself. I like to tinker though. I built a RP console to play retro, I enjoy the idea of a handheld PC. For me, I enjoy gaming on the go as I am often on the go. The Deck looks like it can scratch a different itch, and for that I am excited, but I have a hard time believing it could compltely replace my Switch for what that offers me, just like my Xbox with Game Pass and streaming still can't give me everything I want. I'm an old school gamer, going on 40 next year, and I've been gaming my whole life. I have other things that fill my time, but I'd rather game than watch TV mindlessly.
We're in the same boat. I've been gaming since I was 5-ish. The Steam Deck will be perfect for you, especially with the EmuDeck. I've been introducing my son to titles from my childhood on it. Also, kudos on the RP build. I'd like to get my hands on it and mess around with it to see what's possible.
@@baldlyrudy It was my first attempt at coding and working with Linux. The best part about Steam Deck vs a lot of other handheld PCs is the support. The SD is now mainline and a lot of people a lot smarter than me have made it do things and freely offer help in the form of videos. The RP was a stressful few days to get it working right, but like you, I showed my children the cool games I grew up with on that system.
My issue with Switch is game pricing. I have the OLED and I love it, but I've just bought 13 Sentinels on PS5 as it's £19.99 on PS Store, £49.99 on Nintendo Store. This has been repeated over time for just about every game on my wish list. Clannad £49.99, £12 on Steam!!!
I understand that sentiment. Games released on Nintendo consoles, especially first party titles, tend to retain value for a long time. That being said, third party titles all around go down in price relatively quickly. I'm in the US and 13 Sentinels on Switch is going for $29.99 (~£24.99). Just gotta be patient and the sales will be there. www.bestbuy.com/site/13-sentinels-aegis-rim-launch-edition-nintendo-switch/6499552.p?skuId=6499552
Hey, don't know anything about this device, my 9 yr old is up my beep for it for her birthday, do all of them have the capability to hook to a TV? Especially the OLED, Peace, Kris
I have the switch Oled. I couldn't play the Nintendo Switch lite on tv. So I brought myself a B-day gift last month, Nintendo Switch OLED. It's worth every cent. Now waiting on the Nintendo give us a Next-Gen system.
Subbed & shared. I am one of the unfortunate people that jumped on the animal crossing switch believing it would be pretty limited and then before I knew it I wish I would’ve waited 🤦♂️😅 But on the other hand I’ve been enjoying the switch regardless and I don’t play in handheld mode much. I just hate being limited to Wi-Fi only
Thank you! Yes, I feel that 100%. The only reason I got the ACNH switch was because my wife really wanted it. If not, I would've waited too. You can always get the OLED dock to use the Ethernet there. That's always an option.
Hello @baldyrudy.. I just wanted to tell you that it was because of your video.. I ultimately bought a Nintendo Switch OLED... I have had it for a little less then a month and so far I have loved it. It's a great system and fun to play. All of the old Nintendo games and even some of the Sega Genesis library available... talk about nostalgia overload for someone that grew up in the 80's and early 90's. Well worth the purchase price of 449.00 CAD... Thanks again for the informative video.. Much appreciated...!
My first switch was an oled and I haven’t had the opportunity to see the difference in screens until recently and my gosh is the old model so much worse the colors aren’t and good and the bezels wow
I love the size of the OLED screen, but I had to return it because the pixels were so much more noticeable on the bigger screen compared to the smaller one 😢 they should have increased the PPI, but maybe they will for the next gen. That’s what I’m waiting for now
Oh, hell no!!!! I was set on buying Zelda Oled. Then I absolutely decided on splatoon Oled but after your comment, I don’t think I’ll bother now. I did hear others say that pixels are more noticeable on Oled but others said if you have brightness about 60% should be fine. Is it really that bad on all games? Just don’t make sense to release Oled if it looks horrible. So we have brighter screen but worse image? That absolutely sucks. Why isn’t everyone complaining about this? Could it be a panel lottery, with switch Oled? This news sucks😢
You're crazy. People play switch more in docked mode, on 50" tv's. Yet the 0.8 inch difference between the standard and OLED switch display was a deal breaker for you?
Im getting a switch OLED for christmas and when I looked on the site with my father it said it had 64gb instead of 32gb. I am so excited, seriously, this is only my second nintendo games console. The previous one was the GBA SP. I got the PS Vita instead of 3DS.
Just bought a switch pled a couple a weeks ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made breath of the wild and assassins creed black flag look beautiful and run amazing on it
Is this such a good handheld console that Nintendo can never go back to a conventional console style? 😄 Anyway.. I'm planning on getting one soon, but have been wondering about the rumors on a Pro/Super version coming out sooner than later... Should I wait or no
If I remember correctly, Nintendo themselves said that the Switch form factor could be their last console, but don't take my word for it. I would Google, just to be sure. I still think we're going to get a hardware refresh next year. I go into it here: ruclips.net/video/mxiYedsZ83g/видео.html
@Despicable Al steam Deck an older titles like GTA IV or Fallout 3 / New Vegas get 4 to 5 hours on the Steam Deck with a 40fps lock, no prob. Demanding titles kill the Switch battery very fast too. So it depends what you game and on the settings. Switch for me is still king for travel, due to light weight and form factor.
Hi, sorry to comment everywhere but recently been divided between OLED and life. Considering buying another lite purely for colour reasons. I have as you know the OLED Zelda version and downloading Tears of the kingdom. Not sure what to keep because I love the lite and how it feels and plays but then I like the big screen and dock mode from time to time. When I play games, I don’t often play for hours at a time. It’s always going to be me playing a switch so most games I’ll play will be purely single player. Any advice?
Hmmm... That's a tough one. I prefer my OLED over my Lite. I'd always recommend the OLED in most instances. But people buy Switch consoles for their designs. It wouldn't be foreign.
@@baldlyrudy personally I don’t play a huge amount of one game at any given session. It’s always me playing the switch and I’m more of a tv watcher than a gamer. I’m tempted to get another lite
Hello. Thank you very much for your videos. These are very helpful. I have a kid 7,5 years old. what do you suggest for a present? The Nintendo Switch Oled or the Nintendo Switch Lite. My criteria is how easy is to play - considering the age - and which have the best and ''protective'' screen for Kids' eyes!!. Thank you
Hi! At that age (7.5), I'd recommend a Switch OLED. I think they'd be more careful with the console. But the Switch Lite can take a beating. It's solid and very well built. I would definitely recommend getting a screen protector regardless of which version of the switch you get though.
I have had both the oled and the original v2 model (i think) and i got to say i do like my oled screen, definitely brighter and more colorful. though i hate to admit it, since i got my steam deck, ive rarely touched my switch. but I don't regret upgrading to the oled switch at all, I had it for a couple of years before upgrading.
Newbie question - Do you know if all games for Nintendo Switch require the online membership? Are the games like iPhone games where in order to move forward you have "In app purchases"
Not all games require Nintendo Switch Online to play online with friends, but most do. I believe the box of the game will tell you whether or not you need NSO.
Are u alright in the head? The sound in the oled u can feel moving through the system in ur hands it’s way more clear and loud so much u can feel it wen u hit buttons on the screen
Comparing it side by side, there's very little difference. It's punchier and a bit clearer, but only marginally. I compare all three here when talking about the Lite: ruclips.net/video/DGZfRYnWigQ/видео.html
Just bought a zelda switch with totk, had a previous switch which my family gave to a sibling who was going to college and this video was very reassuring with all of the "switch 2" talk that gets thrown around now Honestly the switch has always picked up in areas most handheld dont those being comfart, ease of use and battery, had a steam deck which i traded for this because it didn't make up in those areas and because of that i would often end up just using my pc anyway
I've been considering replacing my v1 switch with the new Pokemon Scarlet and Violet switch because 1, It's really cute, and 2, I just really want an upgrade from my original switch. I'm not sure if I'll keep my v1 so I can have another island for Animal Crossing, or if I'll sell it/ give it away. The Oled model is definitely an upgrade from the original, however I also know that it's not really too much of an upgrade other than battery life and the look and feel of the console. I'm probably going to ask it for Christmas if I do decide to keep my original switch, however I just wish there was more of an upgraded console. Hopefully we'll get more news about a future console soon :)
Two really great games just got ported to the Switch: Nier Automata and Persona 5 Royal. I guess it depends on what you're into when it comes to games. Most of the time people go to Nintendo for their first party titles. Also, I just got a Steam Deck and have been enjoying myself. Currently working on a video on it. Should be out soon-ish.
@@okthen5566 Never had a game crash or had to tweak any settings to get a good experience. Honestly, that really sounds like something someone would say that can't afford a Steamdeck, son
First thing I noticed when I turned on my new switch a few days ago, like colours and screen light was a bit too much…I would leave it like this but will probably drain more battery right
Hey! There's a variety of games. It depends on what you want to play. Want adventure: go with Metroid or Zelda. Want a Sim: Play Animal Crossing New Horizons Want RPGs? Play Fire Emblem or Xenoblade Chronicles. It all depends on what you want.
Since I got the original, I've only been playing Yu-gi-oh (a card game - game) Now I'm getting into Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. But those games feels more like something played on dock mode Is it worth the upgrade? I'm really not the graphics type of gamer...
First off, glad to see another Yu-Gi-Oh fan here. The OLED is a "Premium" purchase, IMO. By that I mean that it's not necessary to keep on playing games at the same graphical fidelity. With the OLED you get a bigger screen and a better screen. There are other things there, but they aren't as impactful to the gaming experience. If you mainly play docked, then you don't need the upgrade. If you're more of a handheld player, then the OLED will wow you.
Everything runs on the handheld. You don't need WiFi to play games. It's a great handheld for travelling. It was my main go to for travel until the Steam Deck got released.
To be honest, I'm not sure. The next Switch should be coming out this year (based on rumors.) But we haven't heard anything official from Nintendo. Take it as you will.
@Fedgelovesjaffas no worries man. If your Switch is your main platform, then it might be worth checking out the OLED then. But if you're alright waiting about 7-10 months, then I'd say wait. I really think the next one is coming out soon.
@Fedgelovesjaffas I'm in the same boat. I'm just gonna bite the bullet and get one and assume if there is a new console coming they'll need to work out the kinks and there might not be a large library of games right away. There's still plenty to play between now and whenever those news come, might as well have it look nice~
Does anyone have scratches on the back of the console? I don’t have a case but there are scratches and tiny marks on the back.. I’m also thinking about buying a back plate for my switch oled so I can replace it because it looks scuffed up with all the scratches. I’m guessing it’s the texture or my fingernails..
I'm very interested in getting a Switch OLED this Black Friday but there's a lot of "negative" stuff I heard. The UX itself is slow...from going forward & backward, downloading games via home WiFi and this issues about the controller/joy cons (like not responding well enough or it will lock itself)..Any thoughts please ?
Hey there! UX is not just the Switch OLED, but all Switch Consoles. I wouldn't say it's slow, but rather bare bones. The Wii U and 3DS had a much better and interactive experience when navigating. I've never run into issues of downloading games via home WiFi. JoyCon drift is a thing. It's real, and Nintendo has made it a point to repair Joycons for free if yours start to drift. In terms of them "locking", well I've never heard of that. Also, the original Switch that I've had for most six years still runs fine to this day. I've had to replace a faulty Joycon rail, but that was after five years. They're pretty well built aside from the Joycon drift issue.
Definitely. I'm normally a PS guy myself. But there's something about Nintendo first party titles that just hit differently. For older titles, you're going to need Nintendo Switch Online, and possibly the Expansion Pack if you want N64 games. Overall though, it's worth it.
@@baldlyrudy I'm hesitant on NSO. I mean Nintendo should be doing and offering more than old Sega Saturn and N64 titles. And even so the titles are not a lot. I long to the day that the Nintendo will start offering Wii and Wii U games on the Switch.
Really want to buy an OLED switch, but don't know if it is good idea because of the rumors about switch pro/2 and the main problem isn't that stay for one or two years on outdated console is something unacceptable, the problem is in games, because if it will be no backwards compatibility it will be such a shame
Lack of backwards compatibility would be suck a bad move. The next console/handheld needs it. I'm just afraid of Nintendo doing its own thing and ignoring what people want.
@@baldlyrudy personally, i think that if it will be at the same form factor as switch(and I hope so, because home-only console market divided by Sony and xbox, and there is also no good handheld consoles on the market ) it will have backwards compatibility, but this is just thoughts, I hope that new switch will be released soon, because now i think that if you have no current gen switch the best you can do is wait for newer, because it's almost 6 years old now and on the 6th Nintendo releases it's new consoles
Oh yeah. I get that 100%. If I remember correctly, Nintendo themselves said that they don't see themselves moving away from that form factor. I can't remember where I heard that though, so don't take it at face value. I do like the portability of the console itself. A nice boost in performance would be great.
@@baldlyrudy want to buy switch very much, but then I have understood with wide opened eyes that 2017 was almost 6 years ago, saw Zelda in may 2023, and decided to wait. Although I haven't any Nintendo consoles, I saw in internet that usually their lives start with Zelda, and even DS the most selling console last for 6 years before the update
I LOVE mine, I came from a Seitch Lite so literally everything was a massive upgrade for me and I play exclusively handheld as my kids V1 Switch is plugged into our TV.
I got the switch oled when it was released, but I found out I was sensitive to the refresh-rate flicker. So I sold it 2 weeks after some use and test. I loved it, it was so nice. I wished I could still have it :(

The screen isn't even the coolest thing about it imo and it's still brilliant. Vibrant, colourful games like Zelda, Smash Bros, Pokémon and more look incredible.
@@baldlyrudy Something Sony had in 2011 so why didn’t switch at launch??
@@B727X Heck if I know. I don't know Nintendo's reasoning for going with one screen type over the other. My first guess would be manufacturing costs. Do you know why Sony went from OLED to LED with the PS Vita?
I have it since launch. I love how much the oled is better build than the original. It’s more solid, it feels more quality. I just love it.
Yeah. I don't know if it's a placebo affect or what, but it feels way more solid than the original Switch.
Agreed
@@Critical-Defense what games do you recommend on the switch? thinking about getting it for myself
This depends on the game. For example, Doom 2016 downloads about 16 GB of content for Deathmatch, which is not present on the cart.
Thanks! And yes, it's one of the best handheld consoles out there, ATM.

Another very small change that is frequently forgotten is a small bump in storage. From 32 GB to 64 GB.
That is true. The extra storage is nice. I always get an microSD because of how many games I like to have on my Switch.

Took it on vacation for a 5 hour airplane ride playing cuphead and it was great. I love the bigger screen
I upgraded from the v2 to the oled and our family used the oled way more compared to the older one. No regrets
Unreal that you don’t have more subs - really really well made video. Looking forward to what else you’ll upload!
Thank you so much! Hopefully, I'll get more subs as time goes on. I have some videos that I'm currently working on that should be out soon.
Love that it can be played handheld as well as docked.
the subtle hint of hierarchy, lol that said, enjoy playing games with your kids! they will recall those memories someday!
As a handheld player the Switch OLED was such a big upgrade, it feels better, joycons have yet to experience drift and the screen. Oh my god the screen is so much better, not only do I like the bigger size but the colours are so beautiful. I'm so happy I made the update for relatively cheap. ($220 with TOTK.)
i got my switch oled 1 year after i got my old oringinal switch i should of got it day 1 on the 1st day its out
also i just hate the old switch in handheld mode screen size cuz its soo too small and the graphics are so wash out and the sound is garbage with a built in speakers
but in gaming moniter or tv mode its looks great and the sound is so much better
i like the switch lite for handheld but i dont like the speakers and the screen is still so small like 1 inch bigger then the old o.g.
@@baldlyrudy Totally agree. I was trying to get side-by-side shots so my friends could see, but something gets lost in the photo processing.
Think ill get me 1 next month, im a disable vet and this will do well on hospital stays away from my pc. tks
Yeah. It's funny how it all changes when you see it in person with your own eyes. Haha
The most important factor is no drift on the OLED!
Now that you mention it, I have yet to experience drift. Huh...never thought of it.

What was it that justified the purchase for you?
Thanks, I just picked up an OLED and Zelda along with Mario car 8. I love the screen the build, the kick stand. Didn't realize though Nintendo took away free to play online for a paid subscription.
You're welcome! The OLED's screen is phenomenal. The kickstand is also a big win in my eyes. Nintendo going to a subscription model for online was odd, but I think it was eventually inevitable.
@@baldlyrudy it would be nice to be able to download game cube games, this system should be able to run them right? I would love to play second sight again.
Technically, it should be able to play them. The issue is storage, I think. The GameCube games are GBs, where as N64 games are MBs.

Nice! Congrats on the purchase.
And that experience that you give your kids is enough to make it all worth it.
I've just bought one of these to keep me occupied on my next long haul flight. Thanks for your video and info!
Awesomeness! Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated! 🙌

I am one of the unfortunate people that jumped on the animal crossing switch believing it would be pretty limited and then before I knew it I wish I would’ve waited 🤦♂️😅
But on the other hand I’ve been enjoying the switch regardless and I don’t play in handheld mode much.
Yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhh. The older models definitely look worse compared to the OLED models.
I got one just last week and WOW it is beautiful and lot different. It's sounds better, kickstand is better, it's perfect
It's damn good! Can't wait to play Bayonetta 3 on it.
in my country its 120 euro difference between lite and old...
Ouch.
I love the size of the OLED screen, but I had to return it because the pixels were so much more noticeable on the bigger screen compared to the smaller one 😢 they should have increased the PPI, but maybe they will for the next gen. That’s what I’m waiting for now
Yeah. That's why images look so good on the Switch Lite. It's smaller and the overall look seems cleaner. The image being produced is the same though.
Thank you,i thought i was the only one.I prefer my lite over V2 and Oled as the games look so much sharper, the real upgrade would be an oled lite.
You're crazy. People play switch more in docked mode, on 50" tv's. Yet the 0.8 inch difference between the standard and OLED switch display was a deal breaker for you?
@@grahamkelly8662 it’s fine u won’t notice it this guy just critics everything it’s a inch bigger
Im getting a switch OLED for christmas and when I looked on the site with my father it said it had 64gb instead of 32gb. I am so excited, seriously, this is only my second nintendo games console. The previous one was the GBA SP. I got the PS Vita instead of 3DS.
Nice! Congrats! It's an amazing handheld even now.
Just discovered your channel mate...great stuff..👍👊💯♥️
Thanks! Much appreciated! 🙌
Ive had the v2 since 2020! I am going to upgrade today and I can't wait
Did you upgrade it? I got mine today it's a lot better then the 2017 one
Just bought a switch pled a couple a weeks ago and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made breath of the wild and assassins creed black flag look beautiful and run amazing on it
Yes! I love my OLED. It's a great handheld. That screen makes all the difference.
Just buy a Steam Deck, you won't regret it (except maybe for the screen which isn't an oled).
Crazy I just noticed the screen on my note 20 ultra is bigger than the switch screen
@@baldlyrudy Thank you very much for your feedback.
As someone who likes to play games on a TV, and owns an OLED TV, is it worth the extra price?
As someone who has an OLED TV, no. But I've been playing mainly handheld since getting the OLED Switch.
I love my oled! Only thing I hate is I can't open the bit where the games go in!! I ain't got no nails haha
I live my OLED too!
Haha! I know exactly how you feel. It took some getting used to.
@@baldlyrudy Oh ok 👌 As long as online membership isn’t about getting more “lives” to continue game play
@@justwandermaya nope. Not at all. It's mainly for playing online and having access to their retro library.
Just bought a zelda switch with totk, had a previous switch which my family gave to a sibling who was going to college and this video was very reassuring with all of the "switch 2" talk that gets thrown around now
Honestly the switch has always picked up in areas most handheld dont those being comfart, ease of use and battery, had a steam deck which i traded for this because it didn't make up in those areas and because of that i would often end up just using my pc anyway
That's all we can do. Also, the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Switch look amazing!
Im getting the nintendo switch oled in a week to two weeks. Cant wait.
I hope you enjoy it! I absolutely love mine.
Same as ever. A serious lack of good ports and a company charging £50 for 10 year old games. Sold mine and bought the Steamdeck
Tweaking settings to run God of war and crashes people complain about...fuk the dec
@@okthen5566 Never had a game crash or had to tweak any settings to get a good experience. Honestly, that really sounds like something someone would say that can't afford a Steamdeck, son

could you do a video on how you repaired the rails?
This is the video that I watched to learn how to do it. Give it a go.
ruclips.net/video/MwyMjpqPVMk/видео.html
Set the screen to standard not vivid. It’s too overblown on the default setting out of the box.
First thing I noticed when I turned on my new switch a few days ago, like colours and screen light was a bit too much…I would leave it like this but will probably drain more battery right
Hi Hello Good Afternoon from UK. What are the games on Nintendo switch like?
Hey! There's a variety of games. It depends on what you want to play.
Want adventure: go with Metroid or Zelda.
Want a Sim: Play Animal Crossing New Horizons
Want RPGs? Play Fire Emblem or Xenoblade Chronicles.
It all depends on what you want.
Since I got the original, I've only been playing Yu-gi-oh (a card game - game)
Now I'm getting into Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy. But those games feels more like something played on dock mode
Is it worth the upgrade? I'm really not the graphics type of gamer...
First off, glad to see another Yu-Gi-Oh fan here.
The OLED is a "Premium" purchase, IMO. By that I mean that it's not necessary to keep on playing games at the same graphical fidelity. With the OLED you get a bigger screen and a better screen. There are other things there, but they aren't as impactful to the gaming experience. If you mainly play docked, then you don't need the upgrade. If you're more of a handheld player, then the OLED will wow you.
I never had Nintendo before, will these work outside your house like when you are traveling. Or you need a WiFi to work…
Everything runs on the handheld. You don't need WiFi to play games. It's a great handheld for travelling. It was my main go to for travel until the Steam Deck got released.
Is it still worth upgrading to an oled now?
To be honest, I'm not sure. The next Switch should be coming out this year (based on rumors.) But we haven't heard anything official from Nintendo. Take it as you will.
@@baldlyrudy I know. I’m on the fence but struggling on with an OG switch lol. Dunno what to do but thanks for the reply
There's still plenty to play between now and whenever those news come, might as well have it look nice~
are we expecting a switch 2/pro/super/whatever? has nintendo hinted or something?
Nintendo themselves haven't hinted anything, but there are always rumors. I got into the latest stuff here.
ruclips.net/video/mxiYedsZ83g/видео.html
I’ve got a V1 and an oled. The oled is so good for handheld but if you prioritise dock get a v2
Agreed. Though I will say that I've been playing a lot more handheld lately. With the Steam Deck and the OLED, I'm a happy gamer.
Does anyone have scratches on the back of the console? I don’t have a case but there are scratches and tiny marks on the back.. I’m also thinking about buying a back plate for my switch oled so I can replace it because it looks scuffed up with all the scratches. I’m guessing it’s the texture or my fingernails..
i was waiting to hear if the white part got dirty
Nah. It hasn't, but there is some very slight discoloration.
I JUST bought the switch oled. just learned about a switch 2.0 possibly coming early quarter next year, should i have waited?
We'll have to wait and see if those rumors point to that all being real. AFAIK, it's all speculation at this point.
the oled DEFINITELY has improved speaker. a lot more bass and less tingyness in high notes.
I don't know. I never got that feeling from it. It's a bit louder, but that's about it. I still prefer to play with headphones on.
@@baldlyrudy lol valid, try playing a couple music video’s in table top mode. there’s definitely a higher sound profile than the og switch :))

@@baldlyrudy Would you say it's a nice companion when you are into Nintendo (& nostalgia) games? I'm normally a PS4 guy.
Bring back the Virtual Console and I'd be a happy camper.
