was hoping for more of an upgrade, but really happy with the new screen. My previous switch's screen was getting a little worn and I play mobile primarily so it was something I've been waiting to replace for a while. The lack of air gap on the screen is a big selling feature in my opinion
Coming from a first gen swicth. It surprised me a lot at how much of a difference the OLED screen made for me. I have an OLED TV and I know how good they are. However, I wasn't expecting to much as it is Nintendo you know. But I stand corrected its a small but big upgrade all at the same time. No “backlight bleed” or “halo” around bright objects, and no smearing in fast-paced video games. It gives the impression of a higher res screen, but the reality is that an LCD screen does poor justice to the 720p resolution. And with an upgraded screen, you really start to see how some devs have deliberately avoided any high contrast to compensate. Crysis 2 looks particularly amazing in handheld on this device.

@@ot9523 Entirely up to you, of course, but the reason your 50” OLED 4K TV looks so good is more because it’s OLED, than 4K. You’d know this if you’ve ever owned on of the (very few) 1080p OLED TVs that preceded the 4K models… they looked so much better than 4K LCD! LCD screen tech is vastly inferior to OLED, and doesn’t do the native screen res justice, due to backlight bleed, narrow viewing angle and low contrast ratio making the picture appear blurry and washed out regardless of the native res. This is why the Switch OLED is a better upgrade than you’d think… the screen _looks_ far higher res, simply because OLED gives you such a razor-sharp picture… static images look almost as if they’ve been hand-painted onto the screen.
I have had my OLED for almost a year now and it’s a great upgrade from my Lite (and the V1 Switch I had before that). I almost never even pick up my Lite anymore. Contrary to what other viewers might think, this system has some serious power. I play 90% handheld mode and 10% tabletop as I play sitting in bed due to my disability (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Nintendo Switch Sports and the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition are the games I play in tabletop mode using my Joy Con Wrist Straps or Joy Con Wheel).
If your buying one don’t remove the cover that’s stuck to the screen, it’s not supposed to be removed and can mess up your screen inputs. You can place a screen protector over the top, which is recommended!
I’ve recently just bought myself the Nintendo Switch OLED and I’m over the moon with this console. I’ve been wanting one since release and I’m happy I decided to finally pick it up. Now all I need to do is collect all of the games I’ve been missing out on over the last few years.
I just wish that the switch oled had improved internals. Otherwise, it's still a decent option for those with a switch lite or people who haven't bought a switch yet
Yeah in an ideal world we'd have gotten a Switch "Pro" and from some rumours (which would be backed up by the state of chip shortages) they kinda wanted to do just that, were it not for the whole global pandemic thing fucking up supply chains/availability of computer chips.. Who knows for sure though haha Like if it were a "Pro" I would have picked up Age of Calamity with it today BUT... I can do frame dips like in Link's Awakening/BotW no sweat, but AoC is too far even for me XD All that said, the OLED was a pretty easy upgrade for me. I play in handheld/table-top quite a lot, depending on the month/week anywhere from 40%-90% of the time. I have a launch day Switch with one of the speakers broken; The kick stand has been my least favourite thing about the build since I got it; The 64gb is nice as I don't want to bother with SD cards with the only games I have downloaded being Smash Bros, DLC for Pokemon, and Trivial Pursuit yet my system is already full; I can sell my old Switch to mitigate the cost (which isn't something I see many people bring up). And having had it in my hands for a few hours, just everything about it feels like a notably more premium version of the hardware (as far as build quality/display/sound/etc.) Not a purchase I'm personally likely to regret!! Even if we're (hopefully) only 1 1/2 -2 1/2 years away from a legit Switch upgrade/successor.

I got one a few weeks ago. Looking forward to playing some old school Mario Kart from SNES, N64, and 8 with my daughter. She is 9 months now, but she will love this thing on the road trips.
You won't even notice its 720p, it does look amazing, even retro games like megaman x collection look like never before. It was a good call to maintain good battery life and low price. Swapped my LITE for this one and definitely a great choice. The wobble is eliminated with any hard shell you put on the device.
I got to finally play it when I went to a Best Buy the other day & it looks a lot better than the original model with richer colors & a sharper image which looks greater than 720p. The bigger screen looks nice as well, but I'm sticking with my original model for now as I mostly play mine docked. Will upgrade if a 4K model ever comes out.
I still get a quick laugh when I think about how I bought my docked switch earlier this year after having a lite for a year or so, only for Nintendo to announce the Oled a week later
I preordered this one and it’s also my entryway into the switch, I absolutely love it. My only issue is from what I have seen Nintendo doesn’t lower price for older games
By used from places like marketplace. This way you are not supporting Nintendo's expensive premiums, you are saving the earth from a little more trash ending up in the landfill, and you get a little discount. I'm a casual gamer, just wanted a nintendo console that I could play in bed and sometimes on the tv. Ended up getting the base switch console, and it's just fine for me. The 32gb of base memory isn't an issue, I just purchased a 256gb micro SD card for $50 and I was able to get all my favourite games at the same time. I won't be using the kickstand at the back, and the screen size isn't an issue either. I haven't noticed much or any joy con wobble, and I'm able to connect bluetooth headphones if I want better sound quality. The OLED simply wasn't worth the additional $80 for me.
I might end up doing the same. I have a tv in my room so I'm probably gonna play docked a good bit unless I feel like winding down or going outside to play on summer nights.
I’m definitely someone who bought the OLED as their very first switch, I figured I should get the newer model since it would likely have improvements from the other switch so all worked out I guess. Just gotta build up my game collection now.

I never had a switch. Haven’t had a Nintendo system since SNES, but I’ve really been craving the simplicity of Nintendo games lately. I think I might jump on this for Black Friday
What I'm considered about with the kickstand is that if will wear out over time. It seems like you have to rely on it holding itself in that position, but I feel like over time it will become looser and harder to keep up.
I love the portability of this system, I have a switch light and that's all I need. I owned a switch original and I never played on the TV even though I have a 70 in tv. I enjoy the portability of it and headphones right in my face I get really into the games.
If they had upgraded to 1080p as well, then it would have been more upgrade worthy IMO... If you have a switch, don't bother and wait for Switch Pro whenever it comes...
It really depends on how you plan to use your Switch (e.g. docked vs. handheld). If you're using your Switch as a handheld, the new OLED screen will be a huge upgrade, just for the improved contrast and colors.
@@ROGALLYWORLD I take it that you're ignorant of what an OLED display actually is. Also, there's really no difference between 720p and 1080p on such a small screen. It's only until you scale up to a larger display when docked that the resolutions matter, and aliasing becomes more apparent.

@@ROGALLYWORLD Why the hell are you even playing Doom and The Witcher 3 on a Switch? If you want to play those games, you're better off getting a gaming PC or even a last-gen PS4 or Xbox One X that can handle 1080p. You have to be realistic about the tech, and the type of games that fit a console's targeted demographics. Nintendo has never competed in enthusiast gamer markets, and people buy Nintendo consoles for the first-party titles primarily - that's where the Switch excels. That said, the aliasing on the Switch's screen isn't terrible for its in-house games. It just sounds like you have buyer's remorse, and had unrealistic expectations of your Switch when it comes to multi-platform titles. And I guarantee that if you don't like how your Switch performs now, then you definitely won't like the next-gen Switch, either. As for the OLED screen, it offers full RGB (versus the pentile screen of the normal Switch), improved color accuracy and contrast, improved brightness, and higher viewing angles if you like playing your Switch with the stand. Notwithstanding the increase in price, it's already sold out everywhere.
To me this seems like that second version of the Gameboy SP with the brighter backlight which in my opinion is totally worth it. also that kickstand and speakers seem like a bigger deal than people have made them out to be!

@@UniversalGaming11 I don't think it's gonna be a switch pro but an actual next gen console. At this point Nintendo is way behind tech wise so it makes sense for it to be that next step. The switch will be almost 6 years old by the end of 2022 so a new console wouldn't be out of left field tbh
There will be no switch pro. The 4K rumored switch will be the their next gen console. Probably switch 2 or super switch. This is conjecture but it’s also fairly obvious.
@@Patricswift Same here. The next gen Switch would make more sense. Nintendo doesn't go for being better then Xbox/PS hardware wise. But they are a bit behind now, also console cycles are like 8 years. Wouldn't make much sense to release a Switch Pro 2 years or so before the Switch 2 or whatever.

I'm really enjoying my OLED. The colors pop nicely and the screen size actually looks better. You have to experience it in person to understand. These reviews do no justice. Well I'm glad someone finally addressed outdoor visibility, unfortunately that unsold me on it because while a good 95% of my playtime is in handheld, at least 70% of THAT playtime is outside because I spend several hours nearly every day outside smoking cigars after work. It's a nice upgrade for people who want it, and a good jumping off point for people who don't have one, but I was under the impression that the higher lumosity of the screen being touted by Nintendo would increase outdoor visibility and that sadly doesn't seem to be the case. @@happyspaceinvader508 i play on a 50 inch 4K hdr tv so for me i don’t care about upgrading if the oled was 4K then i would but battery life in handheld isn’t that great on any switch i noticed the joy cons last far long battery wise when docked to yes handheld sold me on the switch before it came out but now i don’t really care about it lol
@@ot9523 if you play mostly on tv then yeah don’t upgrade but you do know that even though you have a 4K tv the dock still plays in 1080p right?
@@ot9523 noone cares if you have a 4k tv.. the switch only outputs 1080 anyways, bet ya didnt even realize
I have the GTA trilogy, but it's SO hard to enter cheats!!!!! What is San Andreas without the jetpack?!
If your buying one don’t remove the cover that’s stuck to the screen, it’s not supposed to be removed and can mess up your screen inputs. You can place a screen protector over the top, which is recommended!
Where did you get this information from? Never heard anyone say this tbh

I’ve recently just bought myself the Nintendo Switch OLED and I’m over the moon with this console. I’ve been wanting one since release and I’m happy I decided to finally pick it up. Now all I need to do is collect all of the games I’ve been missing out on over the last few years.
This thing is amazing. Absolutely a game changer for handheld users
Nahhhh that's the Steam Deck u r talking about, that's a game changer for handheld users and handheld in general
@Philip Gregory yea it can with steam sales and emulation XD lmaooo
I just wish that the switch oled had improved internals. Otherwise, it's still a decent option for those with a switch lite or people who haven't bought a switch yet
Yeah, I have a Switch Lite and I’m thinking of getting this
The issue is size you can't more powerful hardware in a small system
Yeah in an ideal world we'd have gotten a Switch "Pro" and from some rumours (which would be backed up by the state of chip shortages) they kinda wanted to do just that, were it not for the whole global pandemic thing fucking up supply chains/availability of computer chips.. Who knows for sure though haha
Like if it were a "Pro" I would have picked up Age of Calamity with it today BUT... I can do frame dips like in Link's Awakening/BotW no sweat, but AoC is too far even for me XD
All that said, the OLED was a pretty easy upgrade for me.
@@gulfcitynd that's what they always say till they actually do it,they never thought they could put ps3\360 class hardware in something as small as the switch but they did, then everyone was like "but it wont play high end games" yet itll pull warframe and now we are about to get a dying light port (wich im super excited for). We just gotta give them time to milk this hardware before they release something new that's all.

It really depends on how you plan to use your Switch (e.g. docked vs. handheld). If you're using your Switch as a handheld, the new OLED screen will be a huge upgrade, just for the improved contrast and colors.
