I'll be the first to say that the intro is not annoying at all. In fact, we love the before you buy intro. It's a phonetic cue to know that we are in our happy place.
The steam deck cant even play a lot of games. The legion go can though and runs windows natively. Steam deck is a pile of shit for fanboys when there are obviously better choices.
Channel go 7 million subs, I really believe they intro brought them too where they are now… or don’t care about the negative opinion at all say the least… ijs…
As someone who didn't buy the original, I'm definitely buying this one. And honestly not even to play a bunch of my pc games, but to use it as a emulation machine that i can bring to bed with me/on vacation. Excited to get my hands on it
Do it. I've had the original deck since it came out and man I love it so much. Always bring it with me, have 3tbs full of emulation and pc games from cyberpunk 2077, to super Mario, to tons of ps2 games like kingdom hearts and other childhood favorites.
It's epic for emulation, keeps getting better and better, emudeck makes it a breeze, and also is not that hard to set up and run emulators or games directly from steamdeck interface not to mention batocera works great on the deck if u want a dedicated OS I'm thinking on getting OLED for playing modern games and OG deck only for emulation
Just my two cents, but the Before You Buy intro is great, just like everything else you guys do! The consistency and reliability of gameranx takes this channel beyond entertainment and into the category of comfort food and a genuinely enjoyable part of every fans day. Thanks from all of us!
The “Before you buy” videos you guys put out are ALWAYS great! And the intro is a HUGE part of the experience to me and probably lots of other folks as well! Don’t change anything but your t-shirt Jake!
Personally I snagged a refurbished OG model from valve. Was able to get the 512gb for $350. I main my pc but being a parent means I can’t always sit in front of my pc. Now I can ignore my children on the go
lol I'm in the same boat. More wanting a steam deck to stream my PC to our living room so my wife and I can ignore each other together after the kiddos go to sleep.
I think the best decision I made with the Steam Deck was to hold off on buying it because this definitely seems like something I might pick up later on. Love that they just gave us more Steam Deck
I never like being the first to buy tech. I know it will always have issues, so I'd rather wait and let the company get the feedback and then make it better. Hopefully 😂
I got it last year no regrets. I had a great year of mobile gaming and an adventure learning my way around a linux based OS :D I always thought the Steam Deck screen was good - maybe that's because I came from playing the standard Switch..haha
Also I may have mentioned this before. But I need to repeat:I had VERY serious health issues last year. I spent almost 8 months in bed. And thats when I started watching this channel. It helped me so much to deal with my issues. It was an escape and also an uplifting influence on me. THANK YOU!
What people should be mentioning about the OLED is how much more important contrast and saturation are then resolution, especially at smaller sizes. The human eye can't really pick out resolution differences very easily at those sizes but contrast and saturation markedly improve visual quality to the human eye
Oh I still love it- it changed the way I play games. I was primarily a docked gal but I play handheld so much more now because it's just so easy and it's a great experience. I don't feel like I'm squinting to read like I have to when playing my original Switch. The screen is GORGEOUS.
I'm good with my Steam Deck, don't feel like going through the hassle of trying to sell it and I don't play mine enough to even warrant a purchase. It does have me excited, and happy that Valve did such a revision. Its even releasing on my bday!
I can't justify upgrading either, but honestly having a GOOD screen and 30-50% better battery life will put it way more on par with a switch and will hopefully make me use it more
Happy birthday! It’s quite similar for me, I don’t play it very much. But since it’s the steam deck „definitive edition“ - so to speak - i already sold my old one and i‘m getting it. It’s a bit like the vive, it’s an amazing piece of hardware. I never sold the vive, and the steam deck oled won’t be sold, too - as far as i can plan 😉. Can’t wait to game on that thing. I love(d) the original deck, even without much time to play it…
I love my Steam Deck and have zero regrets about my purchase. After researching the updates to the newest version, I'm good sticking with my old system. I'm just waiting to see what the Steam Deck 2 will be like. If it's a major improvement, I'll consider getting one. Till then, I'll stick with my much loved original model.
For me I've had to go for OLED as unfortunately my lcd one has been breaking down and getting worse in about 4 months and haven't even had it that long
I don’t watch Gameranx all the time anymore but I still really trust your guys’ reviews because you’ve always listed everything very openly and without bias. My pc broke a couple months back and I’m saving for a new motherboard, along with literally every other part eventually, and seeing this video in my feed makes me wonder if I should just pick up a steam deck so I can game with most of my library and then pick up a pc next year
Go into it with your expectations pretty low (360-ps3 level graphics) Not that it can't perform better than that. But expect a ceiling like that and you're gonna love it. 😊 I find myself using it over my 3080 rig, PS5 and series x.
If you fancy doing light/medium work on the deck, its essentially a midrange PC for half the price of a midrange laptop. It's not for everybody though but for me, it's been reliable when I'm in a pinch or casual.
Forget what these people are saying, I've lost my love for gaming, and the steam deck rived it fr fr, imagine the fast and easygoing use of a switch with the power of a PS4, which is so good, the only game I ran into problems with, was bg3, and it's because it's badly optimized, and now it runs at a basicly stable 30, it's a great device.... And just hear me out (MRW PORTABLE!)
Honestly the steam deck hasn't been on my radar until this video, as someone without a computer now it's something I may consider looking into. Thanks gameranx ❤️
If you don't have a computer, consider the ROG Ally or the Legion Go. Both can function as PCs with the Legion Go having some extra benefits due to larger screen and plugins and the Ally being older so more stable after months of updates compared to the Legion Go. I'm getting the OLED, but I'm still quite unsure regarding the performance. Either way, having 90Hz is going to feel amazing playing those indies at 90fps!
The deck really surprised me as to what it can run and how well it runs it. I'm not really limited to playing certain things on PC only because of performance. Even things like Borderlands 3 run surprisingly well. Only when I play online with friends I have to be on the PC with my mouse and keyboard. Everything else runs on deck too. And sure, there's a difference because my pc is much more powerful, but the deck does it superb. Only thing I don't like about by (back then) top end deck is the memory. Here in NL we don't have a affordable 2TB M.2 available (€250 on amazon) so that's something I still need. But it's my most used device for gaming for sure even though my pc is much much More powerful
The intro you do is amazing ❤️. I get so happy when a video has you in it. Pretty sure i found this channel primarily through your videos on here. Thanks for all your work :)

This is what has me excited for the OLED model. The improvements are admittedly minor, but they're numerous. It's all the little improvements that add up to a noticeable better experience. I'm selling my LCD model to make up the cost of this, as someone who games on my Deck all the time it's definitely worth it.
@jamesick which is why I am trying to delay adopting devices. As of late, I bought the X-Box series X about a year after its debut. No news on a refresh. I have two Nintendo Switch OLEDs. Never bought the original Switch. I was thinking of getting a PS5 but glad I didn't if these rumors of the PS5 Pro coming out in the next year or two is true.
Got my 256GB model back during the Steam Summer Sale and have really really enjoyed it. I know it's not OLED good but throwing some VibrantDeck on it really makes the LCD screen not half bad. Also, for the games I play, battery life is totally good - a couple hours of vanillla Skyrim is more than good enough for what I need from it. Would I buy the OLED model if I had money YES but at this point I'm just gonna put pennis away and be absolutely ready for the full upgrade of the Steam Deck. Great video gents!
I love the OG Steamdeck. I'm playing on it right now. Brightness and battery life are something to be concerned with but for me, it has been a bit of a blessing. If I play until it needs to charge, I can focus on other things while it does so. The colors pop on my older one. I had no idea that the screen was an issue of contention.
@@yasinkutlu9956 The 800p is nearly imperceptible to 720p in my opinion. But I'm also someone who regularly uses my phone and tablet with a controller to remote play both Steam and PlayStation games.
@@yasinkutlu9956 as far as the games. You have the majority of whatever is on Steam and other game stores. You can cloud game on the Steam Deck but it's not a primary streaming device like those other two devices you mentioned, you buy your games and they are on your device/micro sd. It's a handheld PC that feels like a console. If you want to get streaming services you can. As far as the screen goes, it's a smaller screen. The difference in 800p vs 1080p on this device isn't going to be crazy because of the overall screen size. The games look great on the OG Steam Deck so it's not hard to believe they look better on the revised one.
@@yasinkutlu99561080p is obviously great, but the sacrifice in battery just isn’t worth it in 2023. The DeckHD screen upgrade proved that imo, as well as other handhelds with higher resolutions. They end up having like 30 minutes of battery. Besides, 800p really isn’t that bad on a screen this size. It’s clear, and doesn’t look pixelated at all, so I’m more than fine. Obviously in the future it’d be nice to hit 1080p, but we’re not there yet imo. At least not without massive concessions.
A very late reply but my best guess is related to something he mentioned in his behind the scene of before you buy video. Jake said he really enjoys tech tubers and borrows some things from them, however, he didn't want to fully emulate what they do so to spice things up a bit he'd go out of his way to get b roll footage that you wouldn't expect. An example is from Gameranx Series X review where they filmed the console in the woods. When going into why, Jake said it's cause he figured no one else would
I’ve been waiting to get a Steam Deck until it was really ready for my back-alley over-the-trashcan gaming style. So needless to say I’m pretty stoked over here.
I was getting ready to make a decision on buying a steam deck. Then they just came out with this! Decision is made for me lol, let’s hope it goes on deal this week for the autumn sale.
The intro is iconic. It needs to stay. I'm definitely getting this even though I have an LCD model. I'm a sucker, I know. I just have a hard time playing a game knowing it can be played better. The screen size increase and OLED is perfect. Just struggling to sell my LCD model sadly.
Steam Deck is my most played hardware right now and my most beloved device. So I'll be ordering an OLED model as soon as they go on sale. For me, the amount of time I spend on my Deck makes purchasing an OLED screen more than worth the asking price! All of the additional extras are just the cherry on top. I didn't know they had also improved the D-Pad so I'm really happy to hear that also. Valve are absolutely killing it with this machine and I'm sure I'll be there at Day 1 of the SD2 launch, whenever that may be.
I'm planning on upgrading to the OLED Steam Deck. I've had my LCD unit since August of last year and I absolutely love this device. The OLED panel is a nice buff, but it's all of the little improvements that add up. The higher refresh, the vastly improved battery life being the biggest selling point, and the quieter fan on top of everything else. If you're satisfied with the LCD best to stick with it, but if the extra improvements appeal upgrade. Nintendo and Sony Should take notes. With all of the little improvements that will add to a better experience. The Switch OLED is nice, but other than 64 gb internal, better battery life than the original model, and an Ethernet port on the dock. The PS5 "slim" is even less of an improvement. Smaller is nice since the original console is a giant. Slightly bigger storage and the removable disc drive (which can be a pro or con, considering the future of the hardware.)
@@yasinkutlu9956800p vs 1200p it has a taller aspect ratio so 1080p isn't the same shape if you cut the top and bottom slightly then it's just 720p to 1080p and it looks fine on a 7 inch screen
@@AntonioCunninghamI mean it's probably gonna be mostly the same shape but I'd expect some big design differences for the better whatever they come up with it'll be cool
Really concise breakdown, I’m going to be ready to purchase at launch tomorrow, I was holding off for a while but now the OLED screen changes my decision entirely!
@@Sqaidz4LifeI’m grabbing the mid tier. The unique case and stuff from the top tier is really tempting but I personally prefer the non-etched glass screen
@@CaptainEffort I was curious to get about the etched glass. And then from what I read if you put a screen protector on it it kind of just ruins that anyway.

Jake, would you change to the OLED model from the LCD version? What's your take if the change is worth it to pay the price again? Cheers for this video and all the other quality content you make.
For me its 100% worth it. I was in the first waves of the steam deck release and ive been playing it significantly more than my xbox, switch or PC Its an incredible machine so ill take any upgrades for it. Another reason… is when my switch broke a while ago i decided to get the oled and i was blown away at how pretty the screen looks on a switch to boot. Oled va lcd makes a world of difference.
The original screen to my eyes is absolutely fine especially with the colour flatpak. Can’t imagine how much of an improvement this will be but I guess I’ll find out when I get one😊
Somebody did a test the color space for sdr was extremely low even for modern cheap 4k tvs that arnt reliable and now the sdr color space is maxed out on oled version and the color space for hdr is maxed out also
I ended up buying a 512gb LCD version for 379 EUR (refurbished directly from Steam), I felt that it was a bargain honestly (it was 679 EUR new here in Portugal before the OLED announcement), I never had a steam deck and I'm new ish to PC gaming so I'm quite happy with the purchase
Every handheld is outdated compared to normal desktops day 1, so I can’t get your point. U are getting a handheld to play 3-6h on the go not for AAA experience. @@patogordo1385
OLEDs also have, on average, about double the lifespan of an LCD. Which is actually still kind of weak for being made out of LEDs. So id expect the lifespans of OLEDs to actually keep getting better.
Gameranx is more than your average "top ten" channel pushing out clickbait, at this point we know Jake Baldino the man himself. This is like our video game fireside chats. The intro is tradition.
OLED is basically an upgrade in erry possible way, even if it's slight or unnoticeable But in the end, it's still an OLED, so it'll have the 2 OLED issues that typically outweigh all the pros: Burn in and Dead pixels It's certainly better than the OG Deck. Enjoy the few years of use you'll get out of it

Things to note: Upgraded speakers, faster ram (he forgot to mention this is the reason for the higher framerates) & more storage. Up to 1tb.
Also forgot to mention the APU revision. it's not 6nm instead of 7, so that assists with the battery life as well.
The upgraded speakers are a big surprise. The Steam Deck already has the best speakers on any handheld IMO. The new ones must be pretty great.

Would I buy the OLED model if I had money YES but at this point I'm just gonna put pennis away and be absolutely ready for the full upgrade of the Steam Deck. Great video gents!
i heard that, i’ll wait for SD2 too :)
you're gonna put your penis? away?... what?
Yes put the pennis away please, there's children here.
I'm getting my first deck as an OLED tomorrow I can't wait!
@@waffleson45 woohoo, hope you enjoy your deck as much as I do, tho I wasnt able to get the oled, still got my 512 lcd at a bargain price
0:42 Jake playing with it next to trash tells me everything I need to know. Lol 😂😂😂

Very important! The soc has updated and has gone to a smaller die size. This gives better thermals and power to Performance ratios
I was going to comment on this exact thing. very important change since it is way more power efficient.
Really love the shot of you playing the Steam Deck next to a bin Jake.
How is the fact, that I come from logitech G Cloud with GeForce Now. Not many Games as GFN or? How is the comparison betwenn 800p and 1080p? Thanks
@@yasinkutlu9956
The 800p is nearly imperceptible to 720p in my opinion.
@@yasinkutlu9956u won't notice it's 800p on that small screen honestly
Dude the intro is what sets up the before you buy and makes you hyped for it. Never loose that intro!
Why was he gaming next to a trash can?
I thought he was going to chuck the OG model but he continued to game next to the bin
It's the new wave
He was also inside of a brick wall 😂
Why not?
A very late reply but my best guess is related to something he mentioned in his behind the scene of before you buy video. Jake said he really enjoys tech tubers and borrows some things from them, however, he didn't want to fully emulate what they do so to spice things up a bit he'd go out of his way to get b roll footage that you wouldn't expect. An example is from Gameranx Series X review where they filmed the console in the woods. When going into why, Jake said it's cause he figured no one else would
Outstanding work, gameranx. Thank you! 💕
Thank you guys 3:43 , I thought that my monitor had died on me
That was a demonstration of the deep black only OLED screens can provide.
@@hsavietto 🤣
That opening - I thought he was gonna huck into the trash can haha
We all love the intro, its not annoying at all…😊😊😊
How about the PS Portal review?
It’s like the early days of blu-ray, “deeper darks and brighter brights” 😂
Steam Deck is my most played hardware right now and my most beloved device. So I'll be ordering an OLED model as soon as they go on sale. For me, the amount of time I spend on my Deck makes purchasing an OLED screen more than worth the asking price! All of the additional extras are just the cherry on top. I didn't know they had also improved the D-Pad so I'm really happy to hear that also. Valve are absolutely killing it with this machine and I'm sure I'll be there at Day 1 of the SD2 launch, whenever that may be.
One day they will make a handheld where the screen projects into the air like a hologram. Who knows when
instead of showing someone playing the steamdeck on an airplane or something like that, jake decides to game behind a trash can. LOVE IT
Can't wait to get King Kong on Steamdeck OLED 😆
Don't ever change your intros, Ur intros have become a staple for your Chanel, it b like loosing something u never think u needed. Stay OG
I’m so torn between this and the legion Go. Guess I’ll be waiting for awhile to see what updates come to both of these in the future
If you want ease of use and awesome software, go with the steam deck. If you want power/performance, go with the Legion Go. Both are great
Intro is not annoying. Exit line is not annoying. You’re awesome dude don’t stop yourself ❤
How is the fact, that I come from logitech G Cloud with GeForce Now. Not many Games as GFN or? How is the comparison betwenn 800p and 1080p? Thanks
I hope they don't. Revisions *should not* change too much. That's how you alienate your previous customers and Developers
Love the intro actually. The broll playing by the bin was funny
We love Steam for all their innovations and for helping Linux community with games! :D
👍🏼
I am instantly happy when i hear the intro. Like a call to relax with my inner gamer
Would love a before you buy for the Lenovo Legion Go, especially compared to this
Jake we love the intro it is your signature of authenticity!
Really concise breakdown, I’m going to be ready to purchase at launch tomorrow, I was holding off for a while but now the OLED screen changes my decision entirely!
How is the fact, that I come from logitech G Cloud with GeForce Now. Not many Games as GFN or? How is the comparison betwenn 800p and 1080p? Thanks
What one are you going to get? I'm on the fence. I can't get mine tell after work so hopefully they don't sell out.
@@Sqaidz4LifeI’m grabbing the mid tier. The unique case and stuff from the top tier is really tempting but I personally prefer the non-etched glass screen
@@CaptainEffort I was curious to get about the etched glass. And then from what I read if you put a screen protector on it it kind of just ruins that anyway.
love the back alley shots with the trash cans. classy and classic baby. game on! love your new channel with the move too. take your time moving. always look forward to chill videos like yours. it helps me at night before bed.
Jake, would you change to the OLED model from the LCD version? What's your take if the change is worth it to pay the price again? Cheers for this video and all the other quality content you make.
We love the intro! It’s a staple of the before you buy
Before you buy quest 3? Would love to hear your thoughts on it
Please don't get rid of the intro!! Its GOATED and It deserves to stay!
If this is what Valve calls a revision/refresh, I’m willing to pay whatever they want for Steam Deck 2.
There’s a section there with black broll btw. 3:45
For me its 100% worth it. I was in the first waves of the steam deck release and ive been playing it significantly more than my xbox, switch or PC
Its an incredible machine so ill take any upgrades for it.
Another reason… is when my switch broke a while ago i decided to get the oled and i was blown away at how pretty the screen looks on a switch to boot.
Oled va lcd makes a world of difference.

My pc&switch ps4 collecting dust rn, i was thinking getting the steamdeck but oled suddenly come out 😢
I definitely play my steam deck alot but replace my pc ? Uhh no. I play when I'm out of town but when I'm home I play my pc
I've been lurking for a long time man. You've come a far ways. Always knew you'd blow up. Good job buddy.
The original screen to my eyes is absolutely fine especially with the colour flatpak. Can’t imagine how much of an improvement this will be but I guess I’ll find out when I get one😊
Somebody did a test the color space for sdr was extremely low even for modern cheap 4k tvs that arnt reliable and now the sdr color space is maxed out on oled version and the color space for hdr is maxed out also
We love the intro! It gets me locked in for the great info to come 😅
Get this instead of the POS Portal.
They're not the same thing..like comparing a TV to a monitor.
A damn expensive monitor
1. I love the intro don't change it
2. it was funny watching you play it over the trash can at the very beginning of the review
Never been interested in the Steam Deck…after this revision…I think I might be!
Not a true OG
2 episodes in a row…and no 🍕 for me at the end 😢😢😢. Still love you guys. Keep up the great work!!!!!
Outdated
Every handheld is outdated compared to normal desktops day 1, so I can’t get your point. U are getting a handheld to play 3-6h on the go not for AAA experience. @@patogordo1385
Hey! Don't you trash that sweet beautiful ambrosia of an intro that is "....aaand we're back!". I live for that shit
I upgraded from the original steam deck to the Lenovo go, just don't think anything else is as good.
The shot of Jake just playing the Steam Deck over a trash can made me laugh
OLEDs also have, on average, about double the lifespan of an LCD. Which is actually still kind of weak for being made out of LEDs. So id expect the lifespans of OLEDs to actually keep getting better.
No they dont
Love any time I get to hear Andrew’s voice. Miss hearing his takes on games and hearing him gush about his favorite things.
Is Andrew Falcon or is that someone else?

Once you get Oled you wont go back. Simply the best thing to game on
The most fun part is replacing your device every year due to burn in issues on your display! Oled is simply the best!

Gameranx is more than your average "top ten" channel pushing out clickbait, at this point we know Jake Baldino the man himself. This is like our video game fireside chats. The intro is tradition.
OLED is basically an upgrade in erry possible way, even if it's slight or unnoticeable
But in the end, it's still an OLED, so it'll have the 2 OLED issues that typically outweigh all the pros: Burn in and Dead pixels
It's certainly better than the OG Deck. Enjoy the few years of use you'll get out of it
Bro that intro is ICONIC. If I ever get the privilege of meeting you in person, best believe I'd ask you to say it😂😂😂
