That's so weird. I put together a list of top ef-s lenses on the Canon R7 on cfreview, and this was the only lens I included you hadn't reviewed. It would be awesome to see more older lenses on the R7.
Awesome! Been waiting for this re-review! The 60mm + R7 is exactly my setup for beauty shots. Stunning and solid performance at 5.6 I would love to see a 70-200 f/4 (no IS version) lined up with the R7. Thanks Chris!
I'm thinking about upgrading to an R7. I'm currently shooting with a rebel t3i and this 60mm lens... My focus is video and macro primarily - do you have any thoughts or recommendations for me? Super curious about your experience with the R7, especially using the 60mm adapted lens
Thanks for testing old lenses on RF bodies since native offer is limited so far. I would say great sharpness for a lens built when sensors were very much less demanding
Nice Re-review on eos R7. Please Re-review RF 85 F2 on R7 too 😊 Because I think the RF 85 F2 is a spiritual successor of Ef 60 macro in mirrorless realm, we need to know how good it is on the demanding R7 😄
Hey Chris, Love the channel and always enjoy your gentle approach to concise lens reviews. As an R7 owner, I'd love to see a re-review of your re-review of the canon EF-S 17-55 f2.8 on the R7 and perhaps even a show down with its competition. Us canon aps-c owners have been left out to dry a little when it comes to 24-70 equivalent lens's unfortunately. Perhaps you could take it to extreme and include the Sigma 18-35 F1.8 for the fun of it.
Man... I'm in your situation as well. I think I'm gonna copy your comment and put it on his video everytime he uploads until he do the re-review. Hope he'll do it bcoz every apsc owner would like to see the result. Asking for a permission to copy your comment. Thanks
@@JeneralMat-zp2ii By all means go ahead. I recently brought the canon 15-85 and the tamron VC 17-50 2.8... After doing a test wide open on both by upping the ISO on the canon so that i had to shoot the canon at 1/4000 and the tamron at 1/4000 to give similar exposures and then running them both through DXO pureraw 3 the canon easily won.
Hello again man. I'm the above guy but different account. He finally release the review of EF-S 17-55 f2.8. Check it out. Thanks to your comment he finally doing it
Hey Chris, love to see when you put older lenses through their paces on the R7. Shooting R7 as well and use for macros the TAMRON SP 90MM/2,8 DI MACRO 1:1 VC USD. Maybe you wanna check that one out too, one day. Pretty happy with it for macro video, shooting it on f8 regularly. Have a great week and cheers as usual from Germany 👍🏻
I still use my 60mm, on a Fuii X-E3 with Fringer adapter. Works like a native lens. I really love its Macro capabilities, I got my copy for 180€ used. It is better than the Fujis own 60mm f2.4. The mechanic manual override function is so much better than electronic focusing. Image quality is superb. The only issue I have (and this seems to be normal as I have seen it with Ken Rockwells copy as well) is, when wide open, one of the aperture blades can reach slightly into the image so the bokeh is not fully round. When bokeh balls are so big due to close distance focusing it is noticeable. When stopped down to f3.2 its gone and perfectly symmetrical again. Bokeh quality in general is not the strength of this lens, but Macro is!
I have always enjoyed your reviews. I own this lens and I think you nailed it. I do wish you would give effective resolution when you do these reviews.
Chris, you are worth my Patreon support, you prove it every month! Great review, thanks a lot. A second hand is 320 - 340€ here. Since my razor sharp EF-S 17-85 has lost its capability for autofocus (hunting) I'm afraid to buy this 60mm second hand. How does it compare to the RF-S 18-150 do you think?
Thanks for the vid. Hopefully Canon will start making more dedicated RFs lenses including a macro lens. I was wondering if you have tried the EFs 35mm lens on your R7?
Hello Chris and views, small correction: This comes/came with a hood. I got mine here with one that was packaged in (bought 2016). Might be an issue with the 2013 Version. greetings.
Chris, Your findings are similar to mine. But my sense has been that though not stellar, this lens has faired better than other ef-s lens options, though still challenged, as you detail.
For a macro lens, I don't see the use of going brighter than 2.8. Speaking of Canon macro lenses, if you get the chance, could you review the Canon MPE-65?
I inquired Christopher in the past about more Nikon F-mount reviews. He's only made a small handful of videos but unfortunately it's probably too late now.
Warning about these EF-S type lenses. I have sold a lot of used lenses over the years and I have got to the point where I wont buy these types of EF-S lenses to resell. The internal focus motor on lenses that look like this such as the 60mm, 17-85 and 17-55 malfunction and stop working properly. Sometimes they are just dirty because the built sucks and dirt gets in but other times the motor just decides to stop working properly. Not sure why these EF-S lenses are like this when other "cheap" EF lenses from the time were decent. Whatever the case, when buying one of these lenses used, lots of close to infinity focus is needed to be sure it is working right.
That’s absolutely true. I have two of those on my shelf… They’re not reliable at all… I just keep them as decorations. I sent them to a repair shop, but they eventually stopped working after a year or so.
Showing details/cropping on a photo is one of the biggest scams in the modern days. But these days people actually have nothing to do to not read the specs.
Weather sealing is unimportant, if like me you buy lenses and never use them!
😂😂😂😂😂
😂
That works on cameras, too.
I have weather sealing, they are called zip lock bags.

Thanks so much for reviewing this lens on the R7
One thing about adapting the EF-S 60mm to an R body is that the IBIS is noticeable and usable. Thanks for the test, interesting results.
01:23 aah the design language of the 50 1.4, 85 1.8 and 100 1.8(or was it f/2?). But that was another era indeed.

Love it. It's a part of my collection. It's little big and heavy for my M6 and m50 but it gives a diffetent perspective from my efm 28mm.

The best macro for that time frame is the Tamron 90 2.8 imo. Honestly wish I didn't sell it or I'd still be using it on Sony
Awsomeee

Hi Chris, many thanks! Could you also test the older Canon EF 2.8/100mm USM (launched in 2000 without IS), please? Best wishes, Ralf
I’d like to see some re-reviews or new reviews of older Nikon F mount lenses.
I inquired Christopher in the past about more Nikon F-mount reviews. He's only made a small handful of videos but unfortunately it's probably too late now.
I still own a 50mm f2.5 macro on a eos r. Well prettywell
How about testing the last release version of the Sigma 50mm macro f2.8 Chris, its super sharp from egde to edge on 20 mega pixel canon dslr cameras.
RF 100mm 2.8L macro, not rf-s
nice
Please Do the EF-S 18-135 USM Nano and Sigma 30 1.4 ART.
Can you please review Olympus cameras and lenses

Whaaaaat, that's a bit of a turn off, I found two for under 200usd too...
Can you please review Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM on R7? Thanks!
Can you also review the Sony 50mm 2.8 macro?
Heya chris, just wanted to ask, with your Nikkor 105mm AF-S Micro review, do you think you got a bad copy or is it really that soft at close ups?
that or the tamron 90mm, for shooting at 16
What is your take on the Tamron SP AF 60mm F/2 Di ll LD IF MACRO 1:1 ( Model G005) for mirrorless compared to the Canon 60mm Macro?
Is this lens your mother-in-laws lens as well?
This will technically also work with an EOS RP, yes?
By having that lens with a cropped sensor camera, when taking a 1:1 image is it still 20 cm away? or does this change?
I was looking on google and it referred me here
Wich macro is best?
Old ef 50 2.8, ef 100mm usm or this efs 60?
Laowa 65mm 2,8 is the better choice
5:36 what on earth is that? Thanks!

@@henk1382 thank you so much! Never saw or heard of that before!
@@Twobarpsi it's a really nice vegetable, kinda similar in taste and texture as cauliflower. Usually available at the end of the year.

not sharp till F4? Why buy it?🙄
