  • We were called out to a fully blocked office building. On investigation we could tell the City Sewer Main outside the building was most likely blocked so called it in.
    Sometime when you pop a full manhole it spews out sewage everywhere & this is why the sucker truck is on station to contain or minimise the spillage.
    Unfortunately the buildings ORG (Overflow Relief Gully) could not cope with the blockage effect on the ground floor of the building & certain parts of the building were flood damaged requiring carpets to be removed for destruction & replaced as well as an extensive clean up.
    The cause of the blockage was around 1-2m into the 225mm (9") pipe on the outlet side of the 2.0m (6' foot) deep manhole. The line was riddled with fat, however the operator thinks there may be a fault in the line & will have the City's CCTV crew inspect the line.

    Reminder: during the "winter" months when you shovel your sidewalks remember to to also shovel away the snow off any storm drains/ sewer holes. It helps drain the melting snow & prevents flooding, puddles & slushy streets making it safer to drive or walk.

      Snow, hopefully not. I think it has snowed once or maybe twice in my time living here.
      I remember having a drain call out & trying to drive without snow chains coming sliding down a hill with only good fortune shining on me that I managed slide the wheels into the gutter & slow the van to a stop.
      I then got out, locked the van & walked 10 Kilometre's home through empty streets as almost all transport had come to a stop.
      With global weather being what it is, who knows?

      Yes, the drainage technician suspected a fault in the drain.

      Big municipal flusher (jetter) that was stolen from a few weeks later & only the truck was recovered.

    Lots of fat in that sewer and that is one powerful jet nozzle

    • @mrdrains2088
      @mrdrains2088  4 года назад +2

      Yes, It spit out about 120 - 150 litres per minute at 2200psi (about 30 - 40 gallons per minute). Unfortunately this truck was stolen from the Council depot & the truck was later found without the tank, pump & hoses. The guy who use to drive the truck is a bit cut up about it from what I hear.

    Curious why you didn’t go down stream and jet up? I assume you couldn’t. It’s always hard find the correct manhole

      Super busy intersection with morning rush hour traffic so they (council) went from in front of the building to get it running & later than night they came back to go upstream from the intersection & CCTV the line.

    I'm guessing here that that there was a shifted joint, or a break in the pipe (aka your anomaly), and the fat built up on it. For a commercial premises, unless they have a cafeteria onsite, a grease block would be unusual. Can you tell me more and did the city ever learn more?

    • @mrdrains2088
      @mrdrains2088  3 года назад +1

      It was a Council sewer main that was blocked causing flooding issues within a large commercial tenancy. The operator said it felt like a join issue & they would get their crew to CCTV the drain.

    Those city guys need to be trained how to properly clean a sewer you should never clean with the flow always against flow

    • @mrdrains2088

      They usually do, but it was rush hour & we would have had to shut down a lane in a major intersection & the job could not wait as a building was being flooded by the blocked line.

    why not just go to the downstream manhole and jet upstream?

    • @mrdrains2088
      @mrdrains2088  4 года назад +4

      It was morning rush hour traffic at one of the busiest intersections in the city & traffic management would need to shut off lanes to access the downstream manhole for anything more than a couple of minutes.

    He has NO IDEA what he is doing! That is not way to use a jetter! You have to work that hose in and out of the drains in the manhole.! It is the only way to break up the chunks!💩💩💩

    • @mrdrains2088
      @mrdrains2088  3 года назад +5

      This is the City Sanitary Department & he certainly knows his business. The is a fault in the drain & he could feel it & we could see how the hose was acting, so he's not going to try ram the Sh'!* out of it & collapse a faulty drain at one of the busiest intersections at peak traffic time. He got the drain flowing & they came back after hours (late after hours) to CCTV'd the drain & repair it.
      But just an FYI, I'd like to see you or anyone for that matter work a 1-1/4' hose pumping out 180lpm (48gpm) & safely work it within 3-5m (10' - 15') of an open manhole... not a chance, it takes skill.
