      You said it bro. I love my my 01 Grand Prix so much. I sold it like a fold because I had no idea how or even if I could have done the Cavalier 5-speed swap with the Jeep CV axle with help from a machine shop. I saw it driving around 5 yrs after I sold it. It had perfect compression too. Water out the tale pipes every start up. Only had 85,000 miles when I got her salvaged put like $350 in it after I bought for $850. I sold it at 95,000 miles llike a fool for $1300.

      You’re a 100% right I hate Pontiac started turning into a abandoned brand and starting using other people things they use to be the trend setters back then early 2000s came and they started doing what Dodge does and started taking parts from European brands being lazy and wonder why no one bought them and currently Dodge is turning right back into that old brand about to go out of business rebadging Alfa Romeo crossovers

      💯 I could only imagine the supercharged GTP with a manual and RWD throughout the 90s. Better yet, imagine the Fiero with the Turbo Buick (LC2) engines. GM always makes piss poor decisions.

    I had exactly the same one but it was an 01 Pontiac Grand Prix GT two-door coupe with the 3.8 l V6 200 horsepower I've put a cat back exhaust system on mine when I first bought it and if you really want to open this thing up to make it sound really good you have to put on flowmaster super tens for the mufflers I had to get them customly installed because they wouldn't fit correctly so they have to do some adding this and adding that and cutting a little bit of this for those mufflers to actually work but once they put them on they look great and it only cost me an extra $150 for them to convert those to fit otherwise I would have to return them and then I wouldn't be able to use super tens. It sounded absolutely fantastic I had it on the car for about 6 months but where I lived the neighbors were complaining on how loud it was so unfortunately I have to take the mufflers on and I have to put some quieter flowmasters on it still loud but just not as loud as the super tens . Be prepared flowmaster super 10 mufflers are extremely loud I have a dual exhaust setup of these on my pickup truck. I replace 60% of the exhaust with a flowmaster exhaust system dual exhaust system and that exhaust system had the super 10 muffler 18 horsepower gain on a 5.3 l vortec V8

      I've have had some concern expressed to me about those. It is a 5/8 grade 8 bolt with a thick walled 3 inch aluminum spacer that has a flanged nut on top with the spindle drilled to have a perfectly snug fit for the bolt to go through. I have had no real issues from this as far as flex, bends, or loosening up. I plan to eventually have either custom spindles made or have stock ones modified in the future, but for now I have placed my concerns elsewhere because this solution is holding it's own so far.

The knowledge and experience that I have gained from doing this project has been substantial and I wouldn't have been able to get that from just buying a car. This project was meant to be a platform for learning new things from the very beginning. I also gave the person that put up this video some information on another good potential idea for a project car that is very cheap to buy that can also become a real monster when you fix it up right. It really sucks gm never made one of these with a V8 rwd. I want to do this to mine so badly. Mines in great shape. Perfect dark forest green paint job. No rust underneath. I paid 100$ for it with a blown head gasket with only 105,000 miles on it. I had the heads resurfaced and replaced the head gasket, radiator, water pump, thermostat, and the water reservoir. I flushed the system and put regular coolant in it. Car runs great. Great acceleration for a V6. But, one day I want to make a track car out of it. I could just go get a car that's ready. But, I like sleepers. My plan is to stick an ls engine in it. I don't want to take it to drag races. I want it on a track. I think this will be a good car to do it. Since I've only put 500$ into it. I can get what I need from a junk yard and gut the car. So max money I'll put into it. Would be around what I'd think 6k. I want to turbo the ls engine. Maybe 10k into the project. But, I should end up with a track beast. Suspension will be redone. These cars should've been born with an ls. They're smaller than the Camero and Corvette. Gm sucks for not putting those engines in these cars. Garenteed they would've sold a hella alot more of them if they had.

      I'm hoping to run 3 inch exhaust with an x pipe while being NA and once I can get a turbo on this thing itll be either hood, fender, or bumper exit. The exhaust sound is what I'm most excited for haha

    Trying to build a rwd sunfire, got a couple questions
    Would you suggest dropping a sunfire body onto a ladder frame adjusted to 104.1"
    Or a subframe swap
    Both involve a lot of cutting but which one would be better?

    • @AutoTechTyler
      @AutoTechTyler  4 года назад +1

      It all depends on what you are looking to get out of the car. The number one reason I didn't go with a ladder frame design is because I wanted the car to sit properly and not look like a monster truck like most do when they throw a unibody onto a frame. Now, of course you could always fabricate the frame up into the body of the car, but I find it much easier to just reinforce and build off of what is already there.

    • @TrueCanadianJustice
      @TrueCanadianJustice 4 года назад

      @@AutoTechTyler fair enough, especially considering the amount of work it takes to cut a body down to fit it onto a ladder frame.
      Would I use a subframe from another vehicle to fit the horizontal facing engine or create different mounts and structural supports to weld onto the original frame?

    • @AutoTechTyler
      @AutoTechTyler  4 года назад

      Either way works fine. I personally liked using the k member from an F body because it gave me a good "square" piece to work off of if that makes sense.

    • @AutoTechTyler
      @AutoTechTyler  4 года назад

      I unfortunately had to sell that car before I moved to North Carolina. All I did on that car to make the oil pan work is notch the 3800 pant to clear the subframe. It wasn't bad to do at all. That was a fun little car.
