Hands down you both are the most articulate (so easy to understand), informational, and warmest badminton instructors in RUclips ❤️ God bless you both and keep up the good work.
It's amazing that Chia and Soh can stand like this leaning far forward against the world best. Because it means hitting the shuttle earlier, so their reactions need to be even quicker!
Genuinely, every single one of your videos I have watched help me improve my badminton by so much! Thank you so much! Defence is one of the most important things in badminton, if not, the most important!
That’s great to hear 😀🏸 It sure is!! That’s why we have a whole playlist on it!
Been back playing for the last 9 months after 15 year break. Down 2 stone and finally noticing a difference in how I can cover the court. Love watching the videos to learn tips
I watched your match against the Serbian team the other day. Loved it ! The back hand cross court net shot was wicked!
great video. if you look at zach @0:40, you'll see he is hitting the shuttle close to his body. if you look at greg @2:10, he is striking early and far from his body. the arm action is supination (like backhand-- reverse of pronation). there is not enough space to do that close to your body. so i would add to the pointers here, when lifting strike early and as far in front of your body as possible to maximize power from supination. i very much like jen's point @2.34, where she talks about when you are under pressure from the net, you have to try to make the net player move, dont get hypnotized into hitting right back to them. i would also add that you may need to move back when under pressure to give yourself time to reduce the pressure, but you also need to be able to move forward smoothly to take advantage of any weakness in the reply and regain control
Great video, we are training this all the time when warming up 🙂
Thank you for the advice! I always incorporate your tips into my trainings and games!
You’re very welcome that’s great to hear 😀😀
Really useful information thank you both! What you are doing with this channel is awesome 🤩

You're welcome! 😀 That's great to hear, good luck!
Thank you so much guys
Not directly related to the topic of the video, but just wanted to say that those camera angles are great to show the speed of our sport to people who aren't familiar with it x)
Thanks!

You’re very welcome Judith! Hope it helped 😀 Keep it up 👍🏻

Well, I think I know what I’m working on at training this week 😉 Thanks for the tips and the feature! I’ll have those lifts sorted ASAP 🏆
Haha! Good luck, hope it goes well 😀
One other thing i would add is looking to move your (as in, the defending player) base position forwards in the court when you can, to allow you to drive the shuttle back flatter and help turn defence into attack, or to at least neutralise an attack.
If you watch players like Endo and Watanabe they are often really high up the court when defending and are really good at returning the shuttle quite flat or changing the angle of the defence to half-drive it across court. Chris Langridge was a really good example of this too and his base position was almost exaggerated in how far forwards he would stand in court but you would say his ability to turn defence into attack, or to block to the net and move forwards was right up there with the best in the world
Admittedly you wont always be able to drive the shuttle back, and you have to select to do it at the right moment otherwise you can put yourself under more pressure, but once you start to get the hang of it, it can be such a good weapon to counteract a smash.
Just my 2 pence worth
It's so great to see a left handy show us
this is the best badminton content. thank you so much :)
Thanks Sam that’s great to hear 😀😀
Good video very helpful. I like the 2 shuttle practise technique
Thanks a lot Anand 😀

You’re welcome 😀
As always, great video with detail instruction.
Thanks 😀 Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video guys, thank you! 🙏🏼
Thanks Nayan! You’re very welcome 😀
Great video Greg and Jenny, unlucky in the last tournament I watched you guys live on the bwf channel.
Can you do a video about injuries and recovering from them? I'm 5 weeks into recovery/rehab for a grade 2 sprained ankle and I see too many players having recurring injuries because they won't rest for long enough (this is my first real injury in 6 years so finger crossed there's no more).
Any tips or techniques you've picked up for speeding recovery and rehabilitation would be great as well.
Is that Nathan you borrowed to smash at you in the 2v1 bit? Haha what a legend
Sure is! Nathan Moore - a legend indeed 😀
Another great video Greg and Jenny. Thank you!!
I watched the World Championships live and it was my first time watching international players from such close up. I noticed one thing that many doubles players were doing (especially during the CHOI/SEO (KOR) vs. LEE/WANG (TPE) match). While doing defense they keep their grips relaxed and constantly shake their racquet which gives them the momentum while defending. This is unlike if you have to generate the swing from a static position.
This i feel is similar to the split step jump we take to get into momentum when moving for a shot.
What do you think?
Thank you very much! That’s amazing, hope you enjoyed it 😀 yes a lot of players do! It’s more of a readiness preparation thing yes. All of these guys are very strong so even if they are on their backswing of this small shake they still have enough power to go forward!
Thanks a lot for these valuable information!
You’re welcome 😀
Defense is super important but also really hard cuz I have no reaction time.
It’s not all about reaction time, it’s also about your predictive mechanisms! Have you seen our video on how to improve your reaction times?
Maybe I should watch it.
I really needed this video, thanks
You’re welcome, glad you enjoyed it 😀🙌🏼
Thanks for your tips
You’re welcome 😀🏸
Hi, I really enjoy your training videos, but I noticed that there is almost no information online that clearly and precisely explains how to choose the right grip, how to measure it, what are the different measuring techniques, because I think this is one of the most important components for productive play. It would be great fun if you could show how professionals hold the racquets, what are the gaps between the fingers, what should you pay attention to before buying a racquet with different grips, etc. Thank you :)
You guys, together with Gill Clark, help us improve not just our badminton, but also in getting our badminton terms right (in English). :) That's coming from a non-native English speaker and badminton club player living in an English speaking country (straya - down under). Getting the badminton terms right (in English) helps a lot when communicating with coaches, friends, and tournament partners. No wonder even Zheng Si Wei and He Bing Jao watch your YT content... they're useful for everyone! :D
Haha that’s great to hear! Keep learning in more ways than one 😀
I love your videos they help me out a lot !
Thanks a lot! Hopefully this one helps a lot too 😊
Ik it will
Wow!!! Thank you!!! Can't wait to practice the 2shuttles-crazy-men-everybody-will-laugh-at-us defense practice...😅🤣🤣😂
More seriously: This was soooooo worthfully!!!! I will try to improve with your guidance...😄😃😊 viele Grüße Andreas
Thank you for making this helpful video, I've just back after a year and this will help me a lot ❤
Glad we could help! ☺️
You're welcome! Good luck 😀
Thank you!! Clear explanation))
Glad it was helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Whoa this video is what I wanted today♥️♥️
Yayy 😃😃
Thank you so much!
You’re very welcome Jay 😀
One of ur best tutorials 👌✨️
Thanks 😀😀
I was actually so shocked when I saw you two playing against the Malaysians! I’m half Malaysian myself but born England~ I immediately sent a screenshot of the match to my girlfriend (full Malaysian) asking if she knew who the Malaysian pair were and she was like OF COURSE I DO THEY’RE WC!!!. Good effort guys! I hope to watch you guys again soon
Hi Greg and Jenny!
I've improved my game a lot watching your videos and I have a request.
Please make a video on how to avoid injuries and how to recover from one quickly.
This would really help a lot because I keep twisting and hurting my ankles all the time.
The most underrated aspect that nobody focus on..
That's most likely because you didn't do the correct swings. You need to hire a teacher to correct your moves. Also, I take extra time for warm ups and yoga for cooling down.
wow thanks for the tips
could u pls make a video on how to get a ba id onlien for india
!
oh boy, that re-lift practice with 2 shuttles looks fun :D I'll try that tomorrow!
It is! Hope it goes well 😀
I absolutely love ur videos. They are just so high quality and so easy to understand. I wish I could play this game too.😞😞
Thanks a lot 😀😀 you can!
@@BadmintonInsight that’s the problem I can’t. I don’t have the means to play. 🥹🥹
Thank you omg
You’re welcome! 😀
I really need this
Hope it helps and continues to help into the future 😀🏸
Good stuff thank you 😁
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it 😀
nah but actually though this is the first video i saw when I searched "How to defend in badminton" That shows why this channel is the best
edit: I actually watched this a year ago. Now I am rewatching because I am playing with a state level player and I want to beat him in the coaching I play at. Thank you Badminton Insight!
Excellent techniques
Thanks 😀
Dears , your videos are great . It would be good if you guys put some video on how to deal with faster flat returns on serve from opponents in doubles
Okay thanks for the suggestion 💪🏼
yes sir
Love u guyss. And to tty.
Thanks 😀😀
Can you please a video on single's defence? Or is it really the same the doubles one?
Nice 😊
Useful tips 👍👌
👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I struggle in defense in doubles. Thank you for this guide😊
You’re welcome, hope it helps 😀
Hey Greg and Jenny, can you do a video on how to defend your face, your foot, and sides, and what grip. I hope I made some sense 😂 hard to explain though.
Hello, I don't have a Badminton Partner and I practice in front of a wall at close range, just of shortening my reflex time. Would this help me in my defense against hard smashes? Is there any drills I can do with this?
Hi, I am club player who plays with plastic shuttle, does string tension make a difference in the length and height of the lifts with short swing. Pls. guide
Love from Bangladesh ❤
You both do hard work.....
Love from India 🙏
Thanks 😀
1:49 for tapdowns, when the player on the defensive makes really good shots close to the shot and the offensive player is no longer able to hit it in a downwards direction and plays a push/lift, does the offensive player change to defense and vice versa? I do drive practice with my partner which seems similar to the tap down however, we end hitting really close to the hit and when the offensive player cant hit it down they hit it high and it gets killed..
basically should the defense player be hitting good quality shots that are close to the net and hard to kill?
or should they hit it up on purpose to put themselves under pressure?
I am also lefty
Very nice to learn
Thank you
You’re welcome! 😀
I just love it 😍
Thanks 😀🙌🏼
@@BadmintonInsight welcome 😁😂
Ha 2 shuttles! I never seen that, I'll try it this evening..
Good luck! 😀
plzz make a video on how to play between the legs shot
that thumbnail got me dying🤣
Thank you soo much guys , I'm giving too many points to my opponents because of my defence. 🙌
You’re very welcome 😀 Hopefully you’ll give less points now!
@@BadmintonInsight Yupp , will work on that sure .
Have learned a lot from your videos.
🔥
What happens if the shuttle comes to the deep forehand side do you still use your backhand grip?
I feel so good after watching this. Apparently I'm practicing with the mentality of the world ranking players 😂
Nice video
Thanks a lot 😀
Hey Greg and Jenny, So I was playing a match last week with my friend, and we are both pretty good at the sport, but sometimes my friend hits really long clears, long enough where I either can't reach it, and can't move back to the rear court in time, can you give me some tips with this, thank you!❤️
Hello! It’s likely that you need to work on your footwork to the rear court to make it more efficient! We have some videos on this on our channel if you want to check them out 😀
I supposed the constant shuffling of the feet not only put you in a better position faster, but also the snap-reflex action at the heels and ankles that help generate more power in your returns. It's not just arm power after all.
nice dear
You guys are simply giving us fantastic nuggets. The issue I face is lack of partner cooperation as all are happy with amateur game being in 40s. Hope I get someone to help me practice all your tips. Thanks a ton. Can you guys post something on post service positioning in doubles ? Thanks in advance...
How to do good lunge in singles when the shuttles is far or low?
Love from India 🇮🇳✨
Can you do a video about service fault? How does it work?
We already have 😀
cool
Are you guys going to play In the Canada open?
Unfortunately not this year 😥
How about cross court relifts?
What racket u using??
how would u do this on forearn
hi and I like you guys
I'm struggling a little bit with the short transitions where you put a lot of info on the screens. In the vlog video, you showed the twitter profiles of the people you talked to or met and it was so fast I had no time to read it, had to jump back and then pause to be able to read the information. In this video I feel like the transitions where you write the text for the exercises/recap what you talked about disappears in 2 seconds. I would have to read insanely fast in order to be able to read that. Having to go back and then pausing breaks the flow of the video and if I could request something it's that these transitions and information boxes stay on the screen for longer. As an example: at 1:44 the transition starts with the information being presented (meaning all information isn't even on the screen already) and at 1:46 it fades way.
Other than that, great content!
