thanks for making this tutorial. I'm making my first pokemon theme short and i have been stuck on figuring out the animation part for 10 days now. you are a life saver. :D will try this tommorow.
Known OF shape keys for ages. But now is when I finally get around to learning how to make them. Very simple and to-the-point tutorial. Just what I wanted.
Is it possible to use the shape keys even if the body has a armature. Like say I wanna use the shape keys for a cartoon rabbit and I also developed a Armature for the body of the rabbit, will the shape keys still work?
quick thing if u join stuff it doesnt mess up ur shapes! i had a mirror mod on and learned way to late it wont work so i duplicated flipped and joined and it worked as i wanted it to!
Thanks, this was very helpful - bit strange you need to add a basis key first, doesn't the model implicitly have positions? Bit clunky that you need to click + twice for the feature to actually work as expected.
Im making some weird alien-like living plants for my game and this will definitely be the easiest way to animate, thanks. Im so sick of using armature its so tiring.
u can by pass the shape key modifier restriction with SK keeper addon. once u install it object scroll down > apply choose modifier or apply all modifiers.
is it possible to put shape keys on bones/vertex groups? for example, I have vertex groups and bones of each face muscles and I want to make an "A" shape key, I would just need to move the bones instead of each individual vertex
Hello i've been wondering about this for so long, is it possible to create an animated shape key ? For instance, I press the "&" key on my keyboard and it triggers a spinning flower on my avatar's head. Is it doable in blender ?
i also want to know this. i have used an addon to generate character mesh, and during the generation, shape keys were created (by addon). now i want to apply all shape keys, so i can have 'clean' character mesh. thx for sharing, have fun, aum
Is it possible to carry over like the morphs from one part to another. like it's values. I'm doing some model conversion and when trying to for example. Show weapon slider, it affects another material or part of the model
so i did the sin of adding a new vertex after the basis mesh was created - im currently editing an existing premade avatar. is there a way i can create a new basis or update the exishing one? an of course ideally with out having to update all the pre-exisitng shape keys manually. but i will if thats the only option.
Help! I think I've slowly been destroying the eye ball animations on my character because I've been using the 'Relative' button checked for Shape keys but the Blender documentation doesn't explain the 'Relative' button in a way I can understand.
Imagine you make a chain. It's straight, nothing special. You bend it to be a circle. This is your Base shape. Now move the chain parts to get a New shape with the deform modifier. How to apply the New shape?
i found this absolutely useless, you completely fail to explain how to create key frame for shape keys, i dont know what to select from the create keyframe list
To animate a shape key with timings, hover mouse over the value slider on the specific shape key and hit "i" , this adds a keyframe of the shape key on the timeline.

Ooooh this could be fucking awesome for squash & stretch in animation! I gotta use this!
How can I apply a shape key, so that my base mesh is in the shape of the shape key?

@@aumhren3480 you want to apply them ALL? Don't they conflict with each other? You can easily delete shape keys. Did you find a solution?

Thank you!
Thanks mate
Can u use it a shrink wrap modifier. If so, how is it done
So, what do you do when you click mirror shape key and it straight-up refuses to do it?

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my life is changed forever
how you deselect the shape in shape key pannel?
Help! I think I've slowly been destroying the eye ball animations on my character because I've been using the 'Relative' button checked for Shape keys but the Blender documentation doesn't explain the 'Relative' button in a way I can understand.
Thanks
I can't get my fbx to edit in edit mode, it just ends up dragging the fbx around and I cant figure it out
What about ADD REST POSITION?
This is best for easy lip-sync.
and facial expressions as well
Thanks Bro
How can shape keys data made on one object be transferred to another object?
How to export the shape key animation into a fbx file?
Tysm!!!!
mokne deformation

Why can't we extrude/duplicate/make new geometry using shape keys? I tried it and it worked just fine.
it could've been added in newer version.
things went scary when we're about to export it to glb / fbx to sketchfab
I take it this doesn't work in sculpt mode, right? I tried it and nothing happens. Only edit mode?
sculpting works for me
@@jahluu6825 I found it necessary to disable Dynotopo first, then it works

Idk why y'all think Suzanne is the best, seeing deformed skulls and faces is pretty disturbing ngl 😨
Too fast for me speaking wise but thank you. :)
