Luka has been in top 5 MVP candidates conversations every year, but now, when he truly has the best season of his career he is out. Remember when they both made making triple doubles a routine expectation in a star player (with some stat padding involved). Then the timing of it all... when both player dipped in performance and had mediocre careers for one reason or another, making an impression that making those kinds of numbers dont really make your team special, dont really get you anywhere, dont really make you a real mvp... so those factors made fans wary of ball dominant superstars that put out monster numbers regularly. The precedents and the cautionary tales have all been laid at just the right moment when luka is supposed to begin peaking. Just unfortunate.

I often feel like MVP is more of a team award than an individual award. It shouldn't be, but that's how the voters see it. It's almost impossible to win MVP if your team isn't a 3 seed or higher. I get it. The idea is "if you're the most valuable player your team should be good simply because you're on it," but basketball is a team sport. A team can only be a top 3 seed if the entire team is good. Sometimes the best player happens to be on a really shitty team, and no matter how good that guy is, the team will never be a top 3 seed. Team record should have nothing to do with MVP. What voters should look at is how good the team is with that player on the floor vs when he's on the bench. That's how you judge how "valuable" a player is. 6ers are still decent without Embiid. Celtics are fine without Tatum. Nuggets are solid without Jokic. Just take the Cs for one; they have won NINE more games than the Mavs, so you gotta have a Celtic in there, and Tatum has been consistently a top player for a few years now, as has Luka. Is Luka better than Tatum? Yes, definitely, but until that translates into more wins, he's going to stay where he is.

I don’t want to be misunderstood. Numbers are a component when weighed in relation to all those factors you mentioned but winning is the biggest factor. The most valuable player plays winning basketball. Not just stat stuffing. The MVP should be one of the best on both sides of the ball. Luka is a defensive liability and his opponents go after him. The Mavs are 3 and 5 when his out this season. 30 and 40 for his career when he is out. So he makes a difference for the Mavs but .500 ball clubs don’t have MVPs.

There is a concerted effort by the powers that be “ESPN“ to knock Luka down because they want to promote the black player. Which is why Jokic should have won last year but didn’t.
I often feel like MVP is more of a team award than an individual award. It shouldn't be, but that's how the voters see it. It's almost impossible to win MVP if your team isn't a 3 seed or higher.
I get it. The idea is "if you're the most valuable player your team should be good simply because you're on it," but basketball is a team sport. A team can only be a top 3 seed if the entire team is good. Sometimes the best player happens to be on a really shitty team, and no matter how good that guy is, the team will never be a top 3 seed.
Team record should have nothing to do with MVP. What voters should look at is how good the team is with that player on the floor vs when he's on the bench. That's how you judge how "valuable" a player is.
6ers are still decent without Embiid. Celtics are fine without Tatum. Nuggets are solid without Jokic. But in Luka's case... he is the difference between the Mavs being a playoff team and the Mavs being a bottom 5 team. He is making a huge difference.

For first point let's look at what was going on when he was comming to NBA. Analysts with their NA school system superiority over Euroleague had to fight against idea of Luka being the best prospect in that draft class. Unlike 2 other European stars in NBA he was comming in very hot so they had to put up shit about him to not allow conversation about Euroleague being accualy good. With Joker and Giannis they were not comming hot and they just became ultra hot when in NBA.
So than they were shitting on Luka even before he got drafted talking how he will flop and fail, but here is the kicker ... HE DIDN'T. So what now? They for sure done goofed with their slander and now they have to eat their words right? Wrong, they now get to go on excuses campaign, "Oh yeah he has high points but it is team feeding him ball and they struggle because of him" (lets quickly ignore 10 assists he gets every game), "Och but he has bad deffence" (not true anymore), "But he is slow with his movement" (or they say he is fat or what not).
