Luka's 73 points is the most efficient 70 plus game in history and the disrespect that this man gets is unreal, if he was American they would be all over his meat...
If Luka took all the shots Kobe did,, Luka would of had 85 points easy, he shot over 75 % , ESPN , Screaming A Smith , Perk , NBA players current and ex, wont give Luka the respect and love he deserves , because he is WHITE guy , nobody in the NBA can D him ( Jokic as well ) and they cant handle that, he's smoking the best athletes in the league , making them look like scrubs at " Their so called game"".If it wasnt for Luka/ Jokic , nobody would be watching the NBA , they turned into a rap video, playground pickup game...EBLM- European Baller lives matter...Haters gonna hate...
Kobe played in an era when players put much more emphasis on defense and the average team scoring was less than 100p. In contrast today's NBA there's literally no defense and the foul calls are stupid, making it so much easier to score thus shooting efficiency goes up. The stats are so inflated nowadays, Luka's 73 is laughable in comparison to Kobe's 81.
Kobe was able to score slightly more contested shots but his FG percentage suffered for it... Luka was able to create space in ways Kobe never did, which made his shots slightly less contested. Which is the better result? In the end, Luka added more rebounds and more assists to the tally, which people seem to disregard, while Kobe was undoubtedly hogging the ball more. Scoring wise, it was a tie, but add the rest of the stats and Luka's game was better.
@dericandkhristy The game is "busted" ever since the shooters became good enough to reliably score 3 points, and the spread of teams on the court increased as a result, which created a lot less crowded space under the rim. Defense did not get worse, it's just that defense can't possibly work as well as it used to, because now they have to cover more ground. In Kobe's time it was easy to have 3 defensive players jump at an offensive player in the paint, because everyone from the offensive team was in there. Now all the offense hovers at the 3 point perimeter, so defense (if they wish to guard their man) has to also stick to the perimeter, and if they double or triple someone coming in with a lay-up, they leave their assigned man wide open for an assist and a 3 from the corner. There is nothing that can be done to change this. You can tweak and change rules (time in the paint, hand checking) but it won't help defense as much as people think it will, because long range is where the game is now - players (not just the superstars) are just so much better at scoring from a distance.
This does not reduce what Luka did though. Shots he took were not uncontested. He had to work for them. And his work BEFORE taking the shot made his shots slightly more open so he had a higher efficiency. Kobe was spectacular at scoring difficult shots and inside difficult defense but was not a playmaker on Luka's level. Luka does the work to create plays where his shots then seem almost lazy in comparison, but he did the work for them, they weren't handed to him.
@@skuripandaburns3489 yes shooters got better, but please consider at least some rule changes eg. The impact of the freedom of movement change... It is a different game
Great video! Luka's scoring and passing was better and more efficient, not necessarily more impressive. The defense of that period was more physical and a lot closer to the body, Kobe's performance was also more of a solo performance, Luka plays smart and use his team. Either way, to be compared with the best players that have ever played the game is amazing and should not be taken for granted.
Though I really love Kobe, it's obvious Luka put much more efford in his 73 game. Watch Kobe's cruising among static guys in red on the beginning...and in the middle and... OK, Luka, congrat!!!
Yeah, I'm thinking over all that Atlanta's defense was a bit better than Toronto's. I'm surprised they won 27 games to be honest. lol More efficient, more rebounds, more assists, and only 8 points less? Gimme Luka on this.
Luka's 73 and nearly a triple double is more impressive to me. He'll score 77 one day! What's really remarkable is that he was trying to include others too,.. Kobe's primary goal was to score in that game.
I don't see anywhere near as big of a difference in the defense as the hating old heads try to make it sound and I saw a few easy barely contested drives just like Luka had. Kobe was one of the best ever at making tough shots with guys right on him while Luka is a genius at creating space to get his shots off because he doesn't have the vertical leap to just jump and shoot over the top of guys. Luka just creates easier looking shots by the way he plays, but it is harder then it looks or other people would be able to do it.
No "old heads" would ever show you this as an example of what they meant by "tougher defense". This game was in 2006, hand-checking had just been banned along with most contacts. Gotta know what you're comparing...
Oh and Luka wasn't down 20 points with a bunch of teammates that didn't want to shoot..Let's just keep it real bro if you may....Also bro, where is the degree of difficulty on Lukas Buckets??..Did we see the same game?
13 more middies and 4 more free throws for 8 point diff. Not to mention the gap in assists and boards. Pretty clear who had the better performance imo. (Side note, If Lukas teammates could actually hit shots that game it would have been a 73 point triple double)
Honestly the Kobe finishes were all kinda mid, as far as the defensive opposition goes. They were basically just as soft inside as they were against Luka. Lots of easy transition buckets, a couple drives inside where Kobe decelerates for a wide-open tempo buckets where he gets a step of separation, etc. Luka was doing the same stuff, only he wasn't wide-open on the break. He's slower than prime Kobe, so he had to keep the defender on his back hip, and slow-mo it into the paint for the lay. It loos like worse defense because the guy is so close and didn't do anything, but the defender was just as helpless against Luka's technique as Kobe's were on the other side of the court. As far as the decel buckets though, I'd say they were similar difficulty. Luka's were more open because 1, he's bigger than Kobe, so he's always going to get easier shots in the paint, and 2, his decel just goes so much harder. It's like he freezes his body in time for a count, then goes up, where Kobe's is more like .75 speed. More than enough for the bucket, but not the same.
@@elijahbruno2814 No, I wanna talk about their scoring. And no, I'm not biased towards either player. As I explained, I just think it's tougher to guard when a player goes from 45 mph to 0 than it is to guard a player going from 70 to 50. Both are still unstoppable, but Luka gets like 3 feet of separation when he's finishing, so his buckets around the basket look easier. He makes the opposing defender look bad.
Kobe, entertainment, impressive, fun and very detailed skill. Luka, amazing effortless and efficienty. Boring. No sharp corners. Sport especially games are not just results or points scored.
Stop bringing up the Raptor's record as if Kobe wouldn't be able to do the same against a better team. Just a month earlier he scored 62 in 3 quarters outscoring the Mavs who went to the Finals that year and were one of the top defences. It was the only instance of a player outscoring the entire team after three quarters (Kobe also almost did the same against Grizzlies in 2002 with 56). Games today have much higher scores and I don't see something like this happening again. For comparison in the Mavs vs Hawks game both teams had over a 100 points going into the fourth.
Looking at the 3 point shot comparison... Kobe uses a more straigh up lift using his hops to get his shot off over the defender... While Luka uses the step back which creates space between him and his defender, which also may have a greater degree of difficulty?
@stomio6491 no it's not lol. Its just by physics you going to miss more shooting like that, compared to lesser motion shot. Creating space has multiple aspects and then shooting.
@@stomio6491 Why didn't Kobe ever practice Step backs then if it's easier than Jump offs? I find it hard to believe Kobe would rather practice something harder.

@@Vivaildi by far is crazy bro just watch the side by side tape again… Kobe was damn near walking into the paint half the buckets he scored. Just walking right by 2-3 guys in the paint not even contesting his shot
@@Vivaildi Kobe was playing against the worst team in the NBA that didnt play defence . He was Also stat padding and playing for the Record, he got 15 to 20 Points when his team was already secured the win . Basically got his Point in Trash minutes.
@@Vivaildi Luka has great foot work where hes able to make scoring look so easy. Kobe also put up 13 more shots. That's a hell of a lot. He only had 2 assists as well. Sounds like your bias to a child hood idol. I get it. But there's a new boss in town boi. Lukas game was the single greatest offensive game in history by the greatest offensive player in history. Kobe was great too especially when he wasn't raping young women.
The point is KOBE DIDNT NEED A SWITCH. Someone looking to get a weaker defender to score easier is totally different than someone going at the best defenders that they put on you. Thats not more impressive.
Doncic, and it’s not close. Bryant scored 81, on 28-46 shooting against the 2nd worse defense in the NBA. Embiid scored 70, on 24-41 shooting, against the 3rd worst defense in the NBA. Doncic scored 73, on 25-33 shooting against the 9th worse defense in the NBA. Doncic also just fell short of another triple double. It’s Doncic in this head to head on efficiency, and overall game.
It’s all relative, defense back in Kobe’s day vs Luka’s defense is night and day. Spacing and degree of difficulty and getting those buckets are way different.
@@markalterado88 Also back in Kobe's day offensive players were not bailed out by refs every time they flopped like Luka and the rest of the NBA does today... today defenders don't even contest because any real shot contest is called for a foul... but yeah, let's disrespect the second best scorer of all time (Kobe) some more because it's so cool nowadays to say that Kobe was an "inefficient shot chucker" that only happened to beat every great player in his era and he's nothing comparted to today's "brilliance" of flopping and whining...
The final score in the Kobe game was 122 to 104. The score in Luka's game was 108 to 105 thru 3 quarters. Finished 148 to 143. Kobe scored 66% of his team's points whereas Luka scored 49% of Dallas points for the game. What these guys are doing is less impressive because of the scoring explosion in the league. 60 points in a game used to be a big deal. Between the years 2000 and 2010 there were only 9 games where a player scored 60+. Since 1959 there have only been 15 games a player has scored 70+ and 5 current players are on that list? Only 89 games in NBA history has a player dropped 60+. It's happened 17 times in the last 4 years. No shade to Luka but if another player drops 60 this season it'll make his achievement even less impressive!
What you aren't understanding is, the players today have more knowledge and understanding when it comes to scoring. They are better athletes and they have more skill period. Back in the day, there weren't many great shooters ,hence why the good ones looked so great! Luka is the best ever at creating space, no doubt about it. Luka controls the tempo and has a better Iq. He knows where he's going and he knows the defenders next move. Luka is always double teamed and he's still the best scorer in the league!
@@jamescoldeyes4426 My God I wish could have honesty conversations about this with real hoopers. The length of the game hasn't changed. But teams are averaging 10 more shots per 48 mins. In the Lakers vs Raptors it was 88 to 76 shots. In the Mavs vs Hawks it was 97-85 shots. The Lakers had 9 blocks and 9 steals which leads to transition scoring. Mavs had just 3 steals and 5 blocks. Lakers in Kobe's game shot 23 three pointers vs the Mavs who shot 34 three pointers. Players don't have defenders like Artest, Tony Allen, Raja Bell, Battier, Doug Christie, Ruben Patterson, Bowen. You own description of the game is contradictive. There cannot be more space in the game today and Luka is getting doubled. NBA doesn't ever do hard doubles anymore. 70% of Luka's game is top of the key three point pick and roll. Did you watch the same side by side video. Kobe was catching in elbow side spaces and operating with 6 bodies within arms distance. Luka dribbles up catches a screen at the three point line and puts his defender on his back hip with options to continue the drive, stop and create contact or fake forward momentum and do a step back. I am not saying it's not skilled but it's the Lebron effect. Ball dominate but not championship basketball unless the side kick is almost MVP like Wade, Kyrie or AD. Luka's ball usage is almost 40% where Kobe for his career was under 25%. To be honest Kobe's 65 thru 3 quarters vs champion 2011 Mavs is his best performance.
Although I appreciate you trying to approach this in a neutral position, I heard a lot of excuses for Luka. Don’t get me wrong, compared to the NBA as it is in this day and age, Luka is one of my favorite players, but in terms of comparing the 2 performances, it is not close. First, Kobe did not have even half of the supporting cast that Luka did, and that is even without Kyrie playing. The next leading scorer for the Mavs was Josh Green who went 8-12 from the field with 21 points, while the Lakers 2nd best player on the team that year, Lamar Odom, went 1-7 from the field and the 2nd leading scorer was Chris Mihm, with 12 points and 6 of the Lakers roll players shooting well under 50% with 5 of them shooting under 20%. Tim Hardaway Jr. still scored 13 points while having an off night. Which means it is much easier for Luka to maintain a rhythm throughout the game when your teammates are contributing. Second, I watched both games, and there was no comparing the level of defense each team faced. Luka literally walked right up to the rim for layups time after time and got to each of his spots with almost zero resistance. That was not the case for Kobe who was facing a Raptors team, who you even admitted contested more heavily, and had a 112.7 defensive rating compared to the Hawks who have a defensive rating of 119.8 and the league scoring average being 97.0 ppg compared to todays’ 115.5. That is even with the Hawks who are going to clearly finish with a much better record than the 06 Raptors. Even comparing the scores of the game it is clear which game was the more difficult to score in (TOR 104 - LAL 122 to DAL 148 - ATL 143). And I don’t care which way you guys want to slice it, it is easier to score today than when Kobe played. For further context, the year Kobe scored his 81 point game, there was only 2 60+ point performances the entire year, both by Kobe Bryant. We have had 4 in the passed 11 days. Please do not compare Luka to Kobe.
Luka's isn't getting the same respect because 70 point games have become relatively common. Before Kobe did it, there was a 12 year gap. When Luka did it, there were 4 in the past year. It's not as rare as it used to be. You can argue the reasons it's not, but the fact is that it's much more common to see 70 now.
But Kobe selfishly stat padded to get his points, while Luka did his in flow. From 11;40 remaining in the 4th until the end of the game, 21 out of 22 Lakers possessions ended in either a Kobe Bryant shot (14), Kobe going to the FT line (5x), or a Kobe Turnover (2×). That's some GOAT level ball hogging and stat padding. This style of play really shouldn't be celebrated so much. Luka did it the right way, in the flow.
I really hope Luka wins championships…these ppl we are comparing him 2 played great defense and were champions …like literally I really like Lukas game but he really hasn’t ever led a great team …I want to see Luka average 26,13 and 10 and score 50 when he has 2 rather than scoring 35 just cause he can ..sometimes less is more and I think if he changes his play style his game will be appreciated so much more …I think he is a young legend obviously but I think if he just really taps into his playmaking and really tries to lead league in assists and really run a great offense like magic johnson in his own way …ppl will finally realize how unstoppable he is …like save averaging 35 for the playoffs and use the regular season to get till your teammates confidence up so they’ll be rest when it’s time …already one of my fav players just a opinion that’s all
League average ppg in 2006 (kobes 81) was 98. League average ppg today is 115. Thats why kobe's 81 is more impressive. He scored 82% of league average by himself. With 4 second rule and hand checking. Luka scored 63% of league average by himself in the softest era in nba history. No disrespect to luka but kobe's was better.
If they are both able to get off their regular jumpshot and bot have to fade away etc then how is the 3pt defence relevant? Of they both get off their normal shot then the only difference is how they feel mentally when getting closed in on. Does that make sense?
@@G5_Undisputed The jumpers were contested though... Luka's were all wide open because of this honey boo boo era of flopping and every contested shot becoming a foul through arm flailing... Oh, one more thing... Kobe also played DEFENSE in that game... something that Luka should be fined for for literally letting everyone pass because he doesn't want to play defense...
First, Luka is a great player and definitely doesn't get the respect he deserves. Second, 4 players have scored 70+ in the last calendar year. It cheapens the performance. That isn't because offenses and athletes are ZOMG SO MUCH BETTER OLDHEADS DON'T GET IT. It's because defense is wack today. And here is some evidence - the 2017 Warriors, widely considered the best modern offense ever, had an offensive rating of 115.6. That would put them....18th this year, behind the Kings, Jazz, Cavs, and Nets. Are you really about to take any of those teams in a series against the 2017 Warriors? Defense in the modern NBA is trash. Kobe dropped 81 in 05-06 when teams averaged 97 ppg. Today they average almost 116ppg, the highest since the NBA/ABA merger. It's because of rule changes and referees and Adam Silver being a shithead. Not because athletes are somehow superior than they were...7-8 years ago.
Wilt Chamberlain has entered the chat, and he brings with him a note that says 100. So no, Kobe’s 81 was definitely not the greatest scoring performance ever.
Meh, Wilt shot 63 times to get 100 (56%)... Loads of dudes since then could've scored 100 point on 63 damn shots. Luka only had 27 less points on 30 less shots and less FT.
@@imdbtruth There were no 3 pointers back then. No one today has the stamina to even get close to 100 points using only 2 pointers. Wilt was super human and averaged 48.5 minutes one season! I believe it was the same season he scored 100, the one where he averaged 50ppg and 25 rebounds. No way anyone other than Wilt is the greatest scorer, or has the greatest scoring performance. It starts and ends with Wilt.
@@mikaelangeloh2316 Wilt wasn't going to be making any Three-Pointers anyway. Dude only shot 56% in the game, and that's shooting from a few feet away or less most of the time. I also dock Wilt for having another game where he shot 62 times for only 78 points. It's the same with Kobe, if you shoot an obscene amount of shots in enough games, eventually it's going to go well and you can have a "historic night".
@@imdbtruth Just because there was no 3 point line it doesn't mean nobody took shots from further away. Wilt had soft hands, and pretty much invented the fade away. He preferred finesse over brute force,, as his level of force would have injured the rest of the NBA. That wasn't his style. He was a gentle giant. And if it's so easy, why has nobody gotten even close to his 100 points? Wilt wss the most dominant player ever, and could have dominated even more had he not been so gentle.
@@G5_Undisputedin today’s defense in the nba, you guys clearly don’t understand how the nba changed defense from now vs Kobe 81 point game era you can’t be a defender anymore there’s no defense in the league everything gets called as a foul now
I love both of these players and both deserves respect. However, i will say that kobe's performance is so much more aesthetically pleasing. However thats just kobe's gameplay in general. The only one that finishes much more aesthetically pleasing then kobe would probably be Kyrie but i mean he learned so much from kobe anyways.
I think offensive talent has just grown over the years and I'd say luka was just as impressive. The biggest difference i can see in defense played is that hawks don't close out on the 3pt shot quite as close, but it doesn't effect my verdict much
I didn’t like Kobe’s game. Selfish and took contested shot without much movement from himself or the team. Props to Luka for having skill to create open shots for himself and playing the game as it is meant. Also passing to his teammates when necessary
21 out of 23 possessions in the entire 4th quarter ended with the ball in Kobe's hands, in a game the Lakers won by 18. Shameless stat padding! Also what kind of DEFENSE would allow one player to just shoot any time they want for an entire quarter, so he can hang 81 on them in a blowout?
@@imdbtruth It's the name and legacy, Raptors said they were "staring in awe". How stupid is that?! Like basically they gave up at some point and let him have his field day and pad as much at the end.
Its not even close.luka is my favorite player in the n.b.a today but defense today is non exsistent.its not like they just let luka score he made some grest shots but how many time did he get past his man and have an uncontested shot.people who werent around in the 80s 90s or early 2000s dont seem to understand the rule changes and how big an impact they have had on the game.what no one else talks about is defending ones house and by exstention the rim use to be a matter of pride.even in the allstsr game players played defense.even tho they had fun it was a matter of pride.its a generational thing.
I see two different absolute offensive NIGHTMARES on the court. I see two of the greatest to ever play. I don't care about the ring debate when Luka is 24 on a Mavericks team trying their best to make moves to better their chances despite lack of noticeable trade assets or cap room that warrants a high level players interest. It is what it is, but Luka has consistently been a force since his second season 💯
It’s nostalgia. When you’re growing up as a teenager, you remember certain figures and they just had a bigger impact on your view of the game. To this day, I still say, Dan Marino was the greatest quarterback ever even though it’s not true there’s something about being a kid and watching your hero play that they’ll always be the best.
I'm a huge Kobe fan so it hurts what I'm going to say....but Luka was better in the fact his shooting percentage was higher and to go 8 from 9 behind the arc was ridiculous...as for the defence I think Luca is just so smart in getting his shot off he makes the defence look bad.
TBH, I don't think Atlanta's defense was particularly bad per se; they were just too stubborn to not double Luka for 3 whole quarters, which is a huge no-no. By now, it's simply a given that you can put a DPOY-level defender on Luka (Beverley, Kawhi, Jrue etc.), if he's not doubled, he'll score all night long. Apart from that, the game was mainly a statistical anomaly, which is to be expected. It's far from uncommon for Luka to take 25-30 shots a game and he took 33; also he quite often will shoot 10 to 14 3s, and he shot 13; nothing special about him going to the FT line 16 times either (he just took 21 FTs against the Magic the other day -- that was a much clearer outlier). Sooner or later the guy with a TS% of around 65 will have a 90%+ TS performance, just as he will have some 30% at times. All those guys with crazy volume of shots on a nightly basis should eventually have stellar performances, that has always happened and always will. It would be actually way weirder if they didn't. Apart from that, it's all a matter of playing style and, well, haters gonna hate.
Kobe took tougher shots in terms of being contested, but Luka's were MUCH tougher in terms of degree of difficulty. Kobe was stepping into 3's which is enormously easier, but if a normal person goes to 22' and does a step back from 25', we're not getting anywhere near the basket. It's a skill people have developed so it's not like Luka is reinventing the wheel, but it's certainly more difficult than Kobe's style of shot (even with the hand in his face). I think the area that separates the two performances is the drives. Luka's were much more difficult because of his physical limitations. Kobe exploded past/over players and got easy buckets. Luka had slow drives where the defender was with him every step, but that insane slowdown/Euro thing just messes with their timing. He got layups where you can't even see how he got it due to being surrounded by guys jumping higher than him. Kobe forced defenders on their heels so he could jump over them. So the defense on Kobe was better, but he beat it by being aggressive and athletic. Luka's defenders weren't playing as well, but due to his speed and jumping, they stayed with him better and challenged him to the basket. But midrange was a complete wash. Luka is CLEARLY a better pure shooter than Kobe was and he finds ways to get good looks while Kobe threw up a lot of garbage trying to get to the line and if it went in, that was a bonus. I'd say Kobe's was more impressive due to the challenges, but Luka clearly took the more difficult shots and still had a much better shooting percentage.
These games are equal in my opinion. The extra points kobe scored were equalled by the assists of Luka by helping someone else score. As far as degree of difficulty, they were equal because each man got up the shot that they wanted and were comfortable with. To me and some people, highly contested shots are easier to make because it gives you a more narrow path to shooting at the basket. I personally can't make an open shot to save my life until somebody is draped all over me, narrowing my shotline.
In terms of gamescore, these two are de third and second best games ever, only behind Jordan's 69 vs the Cavs You can't go wrong with any. Spend more time appreciating both than comparing them
Mark Cuban and his FO deserve 1/2 the blame for the Luka hatred for tanking last year and for putting the worst supporting cast around him for 6 years. This year is no different because the starters have played < 50% of the games leaving Luka to play alone again. Cuban should be ashamed.
Kobe's was better. He was the best player on the floor on both ends, and the effort on defense (and the lack of spacing the league had on offense) made scoring like this much more difficult during that era. FG% doesn't tell the whole story about the contribution and value they each gave to their respective games. But of course, in this stat-worship era, FG% is all anyone really looks at.
I think Luka is a very physical player who uses physicality and foot work to create space. All of that is a skillful way of playing the game. Kobe was great at it too. But these are skills that go beyond just shooting or dunking.
No one is hating on Luka for taking good shots. But the idea luka is just naturally able to create more space than klobe cause hes better and not acknowledging that the game now is just played with SO MUCH MORE SPACE. Kobe would have to take as many contested shots if they had this kind of spacing in the 2000s. Kobes game is more impressive because of context of the era. Luka scoring 73 isnt crazy cause there have been multiple 70 point games this season alone where as with kobe no one even sniffed 80 especially in that era. This is recency bias at its finest saying luka had a better game cause efficiency is the main thing that matters without taking historical context into account
The defense is not worse in todays game. The offense is just unstoppable. What are you supposed to do against luka when he runs a pnr? He always makes the right pass when he has to and he can score from everywhere. Get used to it, the players are simply more intelligent and combined with the spacing u cant so much
Also Luka makes it look like he is wide open. But he gets the shot for himself. Dude is tall going against shorter guards with a step back it’s almost unguardable. You just have to hope he misses
Don’t worry guys we will look back at Lukas performance with awe after some years because rn people are just scared of new players overshadowing old heads fav
@@markalterado88 I didn’t say his game was against perfect defense. My point is stop hating on all time great performances and appreciate it. Kobes game was magical and is praised but why do people discredit Lukas one? He shot with a higher efficiency while looking for better looks for his teammates. Also stop bringing up the free runway clip. He was double teamed the entire fourth quarter and the hawks tried many different defenders on him. That’s why I hate the modern sport and the media. Creating a false narrative to bend the reality. Ps: before someone says the nba is getting too offensive and I’m just dumb. Yes, I think the offence is getting out of control a little bit. The officiating is inconsistent and dumb fouls are given or travels are overlooked. BUT the nba had its problems in every era.
Luca control tempo he goes slow then fast sometimes in between that is why it looks like they are not gaurding him tgey dont know what to do , kobe was fast pace game all the time thats why everyoone ran around like crazy after him but they both are good at scoring very effective
You kinda glossed over the only real point, or I guess you could say 2 main points - The only person on planet earth who has scored 73 in an NBA is Luka Freakin' Doncic, and there have been thousands of Atlanta games. Even Bird could only manage 60 It's clear from your vid that Kobe's overall degree of difficulty was higher, and he scored more, but Luka's 73 (basically the best game in NBA history) is very very impressive. We'd have to bring back Kobe, Wilton, or Jordan to see something like this ever again
Luka is white so his 73 won't get nearly the love of Kobe's 81. If Luka took 46 shots he could have been close to 100 with the way his night was going.
Both opponents defense were bad. Kobe took 13 more fg attempts and 4 more freethrows to score 8 more points.. Also Luka got doubled in the 4th every time he crossed the half court line and there were times they doubled him before he crossed half court. Also Kobe had at least 27 games where he took 35 shots or more while Luka only had 4 games where he took 33 shots or more and the most was 35 shot attempt he did once. Not hating but Kobe had a lot more chances at scoring 70+ so I think Luka's 73 was more impressive.
Luka had 65 points with 10 minutes left in the 4th.. He only scored 8 points since that point because Hawks doubled him forcing him to give up the ball.
This video clearly shows that Stephen A lied about better defense in Kobe's 81 game. And that's his usual way to manipulate his audience with his fabricated truths I don't understand why so many people who must know his way of lets say-not telling the truth. He was disrespectful to Luka and also to the whole Hawks team...Shame on you, not on Hawks, Stephen A...

Yes, Luka is great at creating space.... But the space is already there and wide open if you pass just one player. It's a different game today
@mtothev4549 Yep. There's a reason why everyone is dropping 50 to 70 points now. Also scoring is at an all-time high this year.
The game is busted.
This was the best offensive performance of all time… People forget that Wilt took the most FG attempts in NBA history to get 100.
In general scoring IS easier nowadays. Kobe scored 81 during a time when the league team was averaging 90+ points
WHY WONT PEOPLE JUST ACCEPT THIS FACT? I put it in all caps because I’m sick of internet people acting like this isn’t a fact
No defense
He also learning from a goat at the same named Kyrie, Luka gonna be a monster, his ability to learn keeps increasing
@@kradoste6268facts Kyrie is the perfect robin for him right now. Kyrie has been a blessing here in Dallas! Hopefully he can stay healthy
Old heads you mean smarter people than you who watch both eras.
Kobe was playing against the worst team in the NBA who didnt play defence either.
Kobe didn't have a step back 3, so he shot over the contest. Luka's skill allows him to get more space to get his shot off.
"His decel goes so much harder" that told me you have bias towards Luka. Wanna talk defense?
@@elijahbruno2814 No, I wanna talk about their scoring. And no, I'm not biased towards either player. As I explained, I just think it's tougher to guard when a player goes from 45 mph to 0 than it is to guard a player going from 70 to 50. Both are still unstoppable, but Luka gets like 3 feet of separation when he's finishing, so his buckets around the basket look easier. He makes the opposing defender look bad.

High key great evaluation. I didn’t even notice that, totally avree
Shooting off a step back is way easier than shooting at the peak of ur jump
@stomio6491 no it's not lol. Its just by physics you going to miss more shooting like that, compared to lesser motion shot. Creating space has multiple aspects and then shooting.
@@stomio6491 if that were true kobe would have practiced step backs, but he didnt, cause there harder lmao

But when Kobe game adjusted to this eras pacing and touches we get????
Doncic, and it’s not close.

@@kramey11thank you for this I really wish people could just understand this smh

Larry would have scored 90 in today's no D NBA.
And he's still going to be snubbed of an MVP
Look at the efficiency, the assists and boards over Kobe
Wilt Chamberlain has entered the chat, and he brings with him a note that says 100.

@@mikaelangeloh2316 Wilt wasn't going to be making any Three-Pointers anyway. Dude only shot 56% in the game, and that's shooting from a few feet away or less most of the time.
In terms of gamescore, these two are de third and second best games ever, only behind Jordan's 69 vs the Cavs
You can't go wrong with any. Spend more time appreciating both than comparing them
I remember when Kobe had his 81...Jordan said something like if he was on the Raptors someone would have put him on his ass lol
This is recency bias at its finest saying luka had a better game cause efficiency is the main thing that matters without taking historical context into account
whoever is matched on Kobe isn't doing much only the set paint finishes are tougher "in the trees" - in transition is like there's no d.
As a Laker fan, I think Kobe’s performance was better, but I do think Luka has what it takes to beat Kobe’s 81. I just hope he does it as a Laker 👍
Luka was good than Kobe.
Kobe went out and got his 81. Luka only got 73. That’s all he had in the tank. Mamba mentality! Period.
Don’t worry guys we will look back at Lukas performance with awe after some years because rn people are just scared of new players overshadowing old heads fav
they literally gave him a runway to the lane? How?
They said the hawks didn’t play defense when has great defense ever stop luka?? 🤔
Not even close, luka had a better performance against a better team, people just love to live in the past
Luca control tempo he goes slow then fast sometimes in between that is why it looks like they are not gaurding him tgey dont know what to do , kobe was fast pace game all the time thats why everyoone ran around like crazy after him but they both are good at scoring very effective
BOTH ARE LEGENDS!!!!
Luka passes the ball and his teammates aren’t afraid of him.
The degree of difficulty is higher for Kobes shots which means the defen e was better back then.
only reason luka got 73 is the ref didnt get the memo to not call fouls for luca.
It is not about hating Luka, it is about when was it easier to get them... And it is obvious that it is way easier to get those numbers today
You kinda glossed over the only real point, or I guess you could say 2 main points - The only person on planet earth who has scored 73 in an NBA is Luka Freakin' Doncic, and there have been thousands of Atlanta games. Even Bird could only manage 60
It's clear from your vid that Kobe's overall degree of difficulty was higher, and he scored more, but Luka's 73 (basically the best game in NBA history) is very very impressive. We'd have to bring back Kobe, Wilton, or Jordan to see something like this ever again
We all know why they treat luka differently
Luka also had 10 boards and 7 assists
Luka Magic
Wilt only took 36 shots in his 100 point game, and there wasn't any 3 points.
So he scored 72 points with 100% efficiency...
Love Kobe but Luka is even better
And that's his usual way to manipulate his audience with his fabricated truths
I don't understand why so many people who must know his way of lets say-not telling the truth.
He was disrespectful to Luka and also to the whole Hawks team...Shame on you, not on Hawks, Stephen A...
There have been 6 45 shot game in the modern era of basketball....kobe has 4 of those
Because 81 is bigger than 73. Kobe had a weak Toronto defense.
Dude, I love Kobe, but the 5 men raptors just stand there...
🤷🏻♂️
Bro how is this even a comparison?
