- How to place your Volkswagen Jetta (2010 - 2016) in service position aka service mode, where the front end of the vehicle is moved away from the subframe. The whole front end slides forward and creates space to do work on the front end of the engine. This is the key position to reach before many maintenance procedures can be carried out. I had to do this in order to access my alternator and replace it. It is similar on an Audi, Passat or Golf.

About time someone made a video on this! I’ve been searching for a year. Thank you
I was not even aware of it until I had to replace my alternator. Then I tried to find something, but couldn't. Hopefully this will be helpful!
❤ I wish I would’ve learned this a month or two back when I was changing out the smog pump, secondary air injection pump on a 2.5 L Volkswagen Jetta
It gives you so much more space. Where is your smog pump situated?
Thank you so much for making video. Very descriptive and easy to understand. Great job!!
Thanks for the encouragement Ray! :)
Thanks for the video, a 2015 TDI oil cooler is impossible to get to from the top or bottom. I'm hoping this will work, I was thinking I was going to have to remove the entire front end
You're welcome. I think this will give you the space you need. :)
Nice! Good one with this! Gotta go buy 2 long bolts!
The hassle with working on these engines is the lack of space. It is amazing what a difference the service position makes! :)
Yahoo....what an informative vvideo...hoping it will worl for my 05 passat TDi
Good luck with your project! :)
Did it work out for you and your 05 Passat TDI? Im in the middle of working on mine
Thank you for providing the video. I appreciate this. Does this technique also good for a Passat 2016? I need to replace a water pump hose.
You will have to do your own research, of course, but I think the basic procedure should be similar to this. :)
I'm attempting an AC compressor swap soon. I think I may have enough room just from the bumper removal. I'll find out soon.
You can try and do it from the bottom. Maybe you don't need service position. :)
Excellent video..
In the service mode, is it easy to get to the thermostat assy?
I haven't worked with the thermostat so can't help you there. But, it makes everything on the front bumper side accessible.
Great video a big help thank you, do the air con pipes have to be disconnected?
Hi Chris, no you keep them connected, but you want to take care of them and not extend the front too far from the body. Disconnecting the AC might be quicker than this method, but it takes you in a whole new direction, because you have to empty the AC and then refill it again. :)
What's that last hose that's connected that's keeping you from fully taking the front end off? I'm about to be doing the S3 intercooler upgrade, changing all the piping to alloy and silicone, deleting the DPF/EGR/CAT, and an air intake. So I was figuring doing this might make all that work easier.
Yes, it sure will make your life easier! The hose on the passenger side was the lower radiator hose. Good luck with your project! :)
@Pen-Pusher thanks! I shall need the luck lol my car is always a pain
@@unknownnln9172 But, what a sweet drive! 😊
To fully remove the front bumper the AC needs to be vacuumed out.
Great video! Thanks!
You're welcome! 🙂
You’d think they’d do better in terms of bundling cables and having larger connector junctions so there aren’t so many things to disconnect. This alone could take 30 minutes to an hour. Then again, I suppose it will end up saving hours of work later trying to contort your arms and hands.
Yes, it takes a while doing this. And, yes, it is a PITA.
@@Pen_Pusher I ended up putting it into service position this weekend and while it's a PITA, it definitely improved quality of life working on the front end of the engine when upgrading the oil filter housing on my MK6R to the AKS tuning billet 06a conversion. Thanks for the video! :)
@@weebwagen Glad it helped. Sounds like you made a nice upgrade!
Very detailed👍🏻
Thanks Chad!
No wonder VW charges so much for repairs. Good info but screw this unless I'm working on something right in the front.
Haha They don't make it easy for us home mechanics!
Thank You.
You're welcome!
At this point, why not just take the entire clip off and have all the room?
If you take the entire front end off you will lose all your AC. That creates another problem for you...
Your front bumper removal video you forgot to link in the description. ruclips.net/video/p8BmCsAW9pA/видео.html
Thanks Bat. Sorry about that...
