I love those countertops!!! Excellent choice
Thank you!! They turned out even better than expected 🤗
I'm loving this makeover series!!
🤗 it’s been a lot of fun to put together!
We just swapped our cruddy old counters with butcher block about 7/8 months ago. It was so cost effective! $700 all in versus $5000-7000 for stone.
I will say though that they require upkeep. Like a yearly light sanding and recoat of whatever sealant you used.
Yes upkeep is vital to keep them in good condition! But totally worth it
Those counter tops are so beautiful! Everything looks sooo good! ❤❤
Thank you!
Love the way it looks, great job!
Thank you!
Looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing, Megan ❤
Thanks for watching!
@@lovinglifeasmegan you’re so welcome 😉
It turned out amazing! I can’t wait to see how the full kitchen turns out! I bet your friends are so happy 🥰
Now that’s it’s all done & the stress is over they love it!
Your friends are very lucky to have such great friends as you and your husband.
Wow!! Looks so beautiful ❤️
Thank you!
Hi megan everything u work for in the kitchen really came out good and pretty i would love to have a kitchen like that very very pretty 😍🤩 hope u have a great day and weekend
Thank you! Have a good weekend!
Megan, with all these new skills are you and Derek planning to install your new kitchen? I am constantly amazed at how much everyone can do themselves. Installation is always a huge price tag and can be done by the homeowner as you have shown.
We are not planning to do the install for our cabinets or flooring mostly because it’s not recommended from our insurance
Looks very nice!! Now all they need is a tile backsplash! We did our own. It's not too difficult to do. It's like "jewelry" for a kitchen.
They can totally DIY that for themselves lol. I need a break from big diy projects
@@lovinglifeasmegan Yep!!
Omg it look so beautiful! Loved all the tips. I need to start my projects I’ve been procrastinating on😅
Starting is always half the battle 😅
It looks beautiful!!!
Thank you!
Wow how lovely 👏🏼🥰
🥰🥰🥰
This is an amazing transformation, and for a finishing touch I would swapped out the drawer and modern handles to bring the whole kitchen together😊
We updated the drawer pulls by spray painting them
Wow it looks amazing! Would love to do this!
You totally can! It’s a big project but I think anyone could do it if you’ve got the time
Love the color stain you chose, it’s looking so good!👏🏼 also…I never knew staining cloths existed lol I’ve always used an old washcloth 😆
They help a lot with getting an even coverage & soaking up all of the excess!
Happy Fantastic Friday
Happy Friday! 🤗
It looks amazing
Thanks ☺️
Great job! 👍🏾
Thank you!
Oh girl, I think I’m watching to many videos. For the first 10 to 15 minutes I’m watching you getting it,but the whole time thinking, wait a minute, when did they do the island? This whole time wondering if I missed a video. Then when you said Brandy would be so happy to get her kitchen back, that’s when I remembered we were at someone else’s house 😂
You are doing a really really good job and the way you keep your work area clean is awesome.
Take care
Everything else was definitely a mess lol, it was just a mess off camera 🤣
It looks so good 😍
Thank you!
Amazing!!! I. Guessing you will paint the lower cabinets some shade of dark green (not nearly as dark as the black.. will see!
You’ll find out next video 🤗
Muy buen trabajo 👏👏💪 los felicito 👉 desde argentina 🇦🇷💝💞🤗.
Thanks so much for watching!
Brava!
🤗
HAPPY MAR10 DAY COLLECTIONS!!
🤗🤗🤗
Nice 💛💛💛💛
Thank you!
Hello Megan. I have been trying to figure out what to do for YEARS with my small retirement condo kitchen counter and cabinets. I absolutely love what you have done and now have this as my model for DIY cabinet only and hire someone ( no way I can lift the counter top) to do that but her block counter top. I have a hearthy vibe in the condo and that is just perfect. Beautiful job you did. Are you for hire ??? 😊 love love thé final results
I only do this for RUclips, but if I ever go into the kitchen renovation business I’ll give you a call lol 😅
@@lovinglifeasmegan I can not see the description box on my phone but do you remember how many jars of the all in one paint you used ( I realized that you did 4 coatings bc of the black base color) . Recommendation on how about to get a butcher block counter and installer? Thank you so much. A new subscriber 😊
The countertop looks beautiful over from Catherine Elaine
Thank you! 😍
🇿🇦🇦🇺looks fantastic
Thank you 😊
Diy kitchen it turns out good
Thank you!
💙💙💙
❤️❤️❤️
Ohhhh😮nice e na sua casa ?muito bom trabalho parabéns
Thanks so much for watching!
Is there a reason why you did the counter first before painting the bottom cabinets? I've never made over a kitchen before so I have no idea but I am curious! 🙂 I love all of your videos make over or cleaning/decluttering. Best motivation ever and it also helps give me ideas for my own home. I'm excited for part 3 and to see what color they chose for the bottom cabinets!
We didn’t want to ruin the paint job when installing the countertops. It’s a rough process lol
@Loving Life as Megan I can only imagine! Looks very tedious but I'm sure so very worth it especially for saving money in the long run.
This looks awesome !!! Where do you find Butcher Block counter top, and is it expensive?
I have it linked in the description box for you 😊

It turned out really nice but how did you put them together and get them to all turn out? Do you have a second video that shows how to do that. Great Job.
You screw it in place the same as you would any other countertop, and then we used metal brackets underneath to join all of the pieces at their seams.
@@lovinglifeasmeganThanks for getting back to me.
Great job but you forgot something very important. You didn't seal the back which will result in water damage. Gotta seal the back and underneath before the install. Then do the tops and edges. Good luck and hope it all goes well.
There haven’t been any issues so far 😊
I wonder how hard it is to maintain those counter tops especially if you have a couple kids …. As far as spills or cold drinks …. What do you clean them with ?
They have held up great! I don’t clean them because it’s not my house, but there haven’t been any issues
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍😍😍😍
❤️❤️❤️
How have they held up? I wanted to do this but my husband’s fabricator friend was discouraging us using butcher block due to upkeep.
They’ve been great! I do think there is some annual upkeep though
How did you fill in your seams? We Just got new butcher block. Our contractor cannot seem to get the seams filled in.
The butcher block should be cut to fit together snug, and then fill the seams with wood filler & sand down to smooth before staining & sealing!
Did you clamp the countertops seams together?
I addressed that in the video
Best way to tie 2 pieces together is biscuit cut and pocket screws.
What was the budget and final cost and time on this project?
That would vary depending on the size of your kitchen, skill level, and resources available.
For it to be food grade you DO NOT use OIL period. You have to use WATER BASED stains and poly. I hope y'all do your research rather then listen to people!
I did my research. You can clearly see on the can that the product is food safe. Water based doesn’t mean free of chemicals so I’m not sure where you’re getting your information from.
IS your husband a combat vet?
No
@@lovinglifeasmegan I noticed that the gentleman in your video ,had a combat vet hoodie on.That’s why I asked.
Derek isn’t a vet but I am. Did 2 combat tours, 1 in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan. Thank you for noticing my sweatshirt.
@@JRKerchevall My husband and I are in the combat vet’s.That’s why I noticed the logo.
We are in Ky.1/1
I really love the black and white cabinets especially with the butcher block I’m surprised that they didn’t want to keep it that way 🖤🤍😊
They really wanted to brighten everything up & create a more cohesive aesthetic with the rest of the house.
Well I can’t wait to see the end results 😊
