Totally agree with you. I went on a retreat with Wim in Spain in 2019 and there absolutely no instruction on how to do the technique (just a lot of "hoo-hah!!" yelling). One girl lost her mind and was screaming all night in her cabin...no one helped her from the Wim Hoff team. We climbed a mountain to a church and Wim asked everyone "So how are we going to change the world?", then his new wife called on the cell phone and after he hung up, he called her a "F***ing B**ch" in front of all of us. He and his male teachers would tell disgusting jokes about women during the entire retreat. He was constantly making foul comments to women. And Wim often let us know how much he loved to drink...and he couldn't wait to get down the hill to the tavern below the church so he could get plastered. It was clear to many people on the retreat that Wim and his son are drunk on power and Wim has ZERO respect for women. Thanks for speaking out about this. People will hate you for speaking the truth. I also practice the ice baths and breathing still...but I do not idolize Wim...that's for sure.

They're more efficient at storing and burning brown fat reserves, and since they're _identical_ twins, it's most likely down to genetics. The Wim Hof Method has no lasting effects as far as cold endurance goes, and researchers called his claims nonsensical. They also proved to be dangerous as people have died from WHM since.
After those results became public Wim disappeared from Dutch television, and several years later he popped up again as Hollywood's next new age cult bullsh*tter.

As a Dutchie it was weird and somewhat disheartening to see this admiration pop up, because 15-20 years ago claims he made about his Wim Hof Method (WHM) were quite publicly debunked in a scientific study, after which he disappeared from Dutch media. He has an identical twin brother, Andre, who is just as resistant to cold but has a completely different lifestyle. They're more efficient at storing and burning brown fat reserves, most likely due to some genetic mutations. Yes, they're IRL mutants.
Wim might believe in his own crap but he's a fraud. Yet he keeps peddling his new age nonsense even though people have died practicing WHM. Because he does not care. Massive ego, believes his own lies, no empathy for others. Textbook psychopath.

A point of contention that I have with this is that you've had knowledge of the flaws in this man's teachings as well as the physical and verbal abuse he subjected his family to- yet your books in support of Wim and his method are still readily available, and now not only do you continue to profit from your writings that sing this man's praises, but you are cashing in on his demise speaking about having had knowledge of all this man's flaws and crimes for years (albeit it his wife having confided in you about the domestic violence off the record). Your exposés no doubt draw attention to this man, and translate into interest in you books. Show some real integrity and either have your books removed from sale or donate the proceeds of those publications to an anti-domestic violence organisation mate. Your skills as an investigative journalist have brought you much critical and commercial acclaim- and rightly so - but your integrity is quite frankly extremely questionable.

@@fuzzykyrra I have to agree and it is something I have brought to Scott’s attention. I’m ok with investigative journos having material out there based on their findings at the time, However, Scott tells this great story of how he went on a Hoff expedition with the sole purpose of doing an exposé on Wim, only to find the method worked and helped him with an auto-immune disorder. It is such great back story to the book. So the book gets published and Scott, I assume, made money from the publication- i know it was the only book out at the time about Wim and I know, because I bought the book. And yet, a few years later Scott admits that on that very same trip Hoff was showing signs of being a mad man. Scott tells of how he (Hoff) led the team into danger and then asked people to lie about it. Curious then how that very important insight into Hoff never did make it into the book. More curious that it was written when Hoff was already climbing in popularity. Then as Hoff is on his way down with legal actions against him Scott reveals what else he saw in that trip. That Hoff can and has been dangerous and controlling.
Scott’s biggest reveal is that he has far less integrity than is needed to be a respected journalist. Which is a shame as Scott clearly has talent and people confide in him…oh I don’t know. I’m here aren’t I? so I don’t hate him - but I don’t think he realizes how he is perceived sometimes.

The problem is we only have one side of the story. Often it is somewhere in the middle. Not discounting the violence, but dealing with a psychotic spouse can be nearly impossible to deal with, especially in the 1990's in which psychology and psychiatry was in a very poor and misunderstanding state, was more like psuedoscience at the time and many were also stygmatized by it. However, I am not judge and lawgiver, I'm just a simple civilian trying to live my best and healthiest life.

It takes a certain level of arrogance and maybe a bit of dark triad to think you're a "savior" to people, shout it off the rooftops and have them all follow you. The world is full of people like that, hence social media "influencers" as well. Some people love to have as much influence as possbile and it's rarely the nice, well-meaning humble folk that have that ambition. And too many people like to give the responsibility for their own thoughts and actions away to someone else and these people use that against them. Too many people are standing with stretched out hands, wanting to be saved, willing to throw money at it, whatever it takes (usually whatever it takes, except actually work on themselves, but preferring the miracle from the outside). Anger, ridicule and gaslighting is often the tactic for dissenters and critical thinkers that question the method; if someone disagrees with them it's just because they're too stupid to understand it, etc. Watch out for people who tell you they can solve all your problems if you just do what they say, in general it's a good rule. Don't believe the hype, it's a sequel.

I will have a hot shower right before that though since cold in chinese medicine is not good for the energies in the body, cold stagnates the energies. Hot is needed right before and then it's okey. You are so right also, cold baths and breath exercises has existed for a very long time before Wim. He was the one making it mainstream only. Jeez. This brings up a lot.
I was a bit of a lost soul when I stumbled upon the Wim Hof Method in 2015.
I was dealing with chronic headaches, so I gave the breathing exercises a try. They worked wonders for the pain relief. I was hooked.
I even managed to do some contract work for the “Hoffice” for some time as a copywriter and a marketer. I even helped ghost write one of his Ebooks.
I taught breathwork shops for 2 years in Thailand. Then, I stopped doing the breathing exercises in 2019 for good.
Why? My headaches weren’t getting any better.
I think the breathing was just a band-aid. Better than THC or a pill? Sure, but a band-aid nonetheless.
The breathing technique got me high. It was an escape.
It didn’t lead to any lasting shifts, because I wasn’t confronting the root emotional pain.
Since then I’ve been diving deep into my patterns, trauma, etc. It doesn’t feel as good as a breath retention, but the results speak for themselves. I have seen a lot of improvements.
Wim’s method is very extreme. In some eastern traditions, they would scoff at such methods as “healing.”
I am not confident the breathing exercises contribute to longevity.
I suspect it may be adding more stress to the nervous system as a whole.
I have no strong comment on the report.
I feel sick to my stomach to consider some of these accusations. I don’t claim to know who’s telling the truth and what really happened.
I do know that I had plenty of peak experiences while doing wim’s breathing exercises.
Those peak states gave rise to many ungrounded thoughts and beliefs that were more detrimental than generative.
It was easy for me to follow someone who’s charismatic i was getting high off his instructions.
But to be high is not to truly heal. I’m not confident Wim knows the difference.
I don’t have a sound conclusion. Just wanted to share the impact while it’s alive…
Thanks Scott for your dedication to truth. May you be well.

Some 15-20 years ago he was making rounds on Dutch talkshows with his Wim Hof Method (WHM). Wim has an identical twin brother, Andre, who is just as resistant against cold but doesn't practice WHM, and has a completely different life style. They agreed to a scientific study (University of Maastricht if I remember correctly) and to make a long story short; they're mutants. They're more efficient at storing and burning brown fat reserves thanks to what's most likely a genetic mutation. One researcher described the claims made by Wim about WHM as gobbledygook, made up nonsense.
After that result Wim pretty much disappeared from Dutch media. I wasn't all that surprised when several years later he popped up as Hollywood's next new age bullshitter. Sadly enough, people have died from WHM.
So yea, scammer, abuser, cultist almost. Avoid at all costs.

True or not, I appreciate you are bringing this forward because there could be something in there. But pictures, videos or the victim's testimony (by accessing a police report for example) could make your content more reliable and avoid misinformation

That indeed paints a very different picture than the official story. I have to admit, there was a hesitancy in me to even click on your video, since Wim Hof was one of my heroes for a long time and his method did help me a lot over the years. But it is very important work, that you do. Another case in point to never idolize anyone.

I used the WH method for a while, but I've grown skeptical. After hearing about the first wife, the number of children, and the 'guru' status, my alarm bells started ringing early (though I usually avoid following gurus). I think these RUclipsrs and softball podcasters make it too easy to create fake gurus and heroes. It's becoming a real problem for how facts are perceived by a significant portion of the population.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights with the public. People deserve to know the truth. He is in a position of power in the health community and that leaves room for exploration of ones vulnerability. I think it is courageous and I deeply respect what you are doing to bring a voice and an awareness to his abuse against women. I stand with you, we should not further enable these behaviors by allowing him to manipulate others using his guru status..

So in Scott Carney's court you're "Presumed guilty". Jumps to conclusions on circumstantial evidence. And he urges you to not do a proven, mega beneficial practice because of the character of its inventor. Can't seem to hold two related but different concepts I guess. I've never liked Wim Hoff - but Scott Carney is pathetic. Unsubscribed

I do breathing exercises, I do cold training. I never call it the "Wim Hof method" though. It always sounded stupid to me to use someone's name to call some very basic physiological practices. That was already giving guru-vibes.

I think he was involved in the death of his wife because he showed no emotion other than saying she looked good..a psycophat at least.

really wish more men who noticed other men being violent towards women would speak up as it's happening rather than after the fact. DV is always the canary in the coal mine for other severely messed up behaviors, but no one seems to care about it until the person committing it does something to harm other men. it's always been wild that people write off violent behavior against those who these gurus claim to love most (spouses, children) as if it stays compartmentalized rather than is indicative of how a person navigates all other aspects of their life.
