The Yankees, of all teams, should have had the foresight to know that they should never have torn this place down. Wrigley Field has undergone a near complete renovation over the last 5 years. the removed and replaced all the seating areas in the lower and upper decks and bleachers, remodeled the locker rooms, and it looks beautiful. The Yankees could have taken their time and renovated it piece by piece and saved the important historical park. Now they just have a pale imitation of the original. Clean and corporate and a dud.

This video is representative of how corporate thinking has wreaked most of the world of sports. Take something lovely, albeit imperfect or asymmetrical, and let a bunch of suits who know little to nothing about the actual game and it’s history “fix” it. These are the same people who tear down Main Street so they can “fix” a town by adding a Wal-Mart, a Home Depot, and a Starbucks. These are people cut out of HOA molds who abhor neighborhoods with any personality. How is it that Europe can preserve buildings for centuries and we can’t preserve one of the Crown Jewels of our national pastime?

Can any yankee fan tell me why they did this? I always wounder why the Yankees needed a new stadium when there was already so historic. I mean look at the cubs and Red Sox. Both their stadiums are like over 100 years old and they still keep them around for tradition. I can’t think of a more historic stadium than yankee stadium. Why did they tare it down?

It was falling apart, it also lost value after its mid 70’s renovation.
Overall the Yankees just didn’t want to put anymore money in it

Home base ?? Is that what they call "Home Plate" in NY ? I don't think I ever heard it called home base b4 I read it here several times. Maybe that is a east coast term. Sorry if I upset anyone but it's home plate. :-)

Oh why oh why did this stadium have to go!? Going to Yankees games has surely never been the same since, which I used to do every year, but haven't been to a home game since 2011! :(
