As a Yankees fan I appreciate you making this video. I love old Yankee Stadium and I miss it dearly. The way the fans felt like they were right on top of the game in the field level box seats and the upper deck created a special intimidation factor for opposing teams. I consider myself lucky to say I saw my first MLB game as there on a beautiful Sunday afternoon with Bob Sheppard announcing “good afternoon and welcome to Yankee Stadium.” Honestly though I wish they had preserved much more of the *original* original Yankee Stadium the way Fenway and Wrigley have been preserved.
But what people don’t realize is that original Yankee Stadium was falling apart. The original stadium was built in less than a year, and the renovations were commissioned by the city of NY and the CBS ownership group. George never really liked the renovated stadium and spent basically his entire tenure as owner trying to get a new one. What they built isn’t the old stadium, but it is a beautiful, more intimate park that feels like Yankee Stadium. my seats in the LF bleachers are no longer a mile away from home plate as they would have been in the old stadium, overall it’s a really nice place to see a game. My only true gripe is monument park being hidden in a dungeon behind the wall. Monument Park should be in a place where it can be seen at all times, we’re the Yankees since when are we modest about our history?

It was incredibly outdated, obsolete, and yes falling apart. Not to mention incredibly crammed.
Having also been to the new one it’s a *lot* better. At least they even preserved some of the old remnants in the new one.
And the original site is now Heritage Field. So even the site got preserved in a way

Also you mentioned the bowl game and how awkward that field is, but not the fact that they try and squeeze an MLS pitch onto the the field for NYCFC?

Honestly--the new YS does have some good points--especially the open concourses. I LOVE being able to roam around the upper deck and grabbing a spot on one of those standing room tables right near the rail to catch an inning or two--that's a really cool feature! BUT....BUT...BUT...the old YS had that gritty, intimidating atmosphere that no other sports venue on earth could ever duplicate!
Look up the video clip of Ruben Sierra and Don Mattingly hitting back to back homers in game 2 of the 95 playoffs against Seattle. When Mattingly went deep the Stadium literally SHOOK! I was there and will never forget that moment for as long as I live! THAT's what the old Stadium was like!! The new YS won't ever have that kind of atmosphere--hate to say it but it will never have that kind of magic!!

I think the stadium is fine. But the problem I have with it is that it's in a different site. It's really not anyone's fault. When I went to the old Yankee stadium, you felt the Aura of greatness that took place there over the years. You look in right field and say to yourself that Babe Ruth actually stood there.
I think it would be the same exact for fans of the Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox if they moved out of their stadiums and got new state of the art ballparks incorporating many aspects of their former homes into it. It may look nicer, but the historical Aura would be gone

    • @stephenm8725

A lot of this is true, but you gotta factor in the mets building a new ballpark. Maybe that was the impetus for Yankees ownership to not be outshined by a new ballpark cross town. Also, while the old Stadium was indeed incredible and historical, it was also literally falling apart and seen better days in some respects. Lines for concessions were long and it was less modern. The Yankees did this thing right though by building a new place well after the dynasty was done and making it a lot like the old yard. I suppose I could go on

I don't love rainouts either (I've been affected by one at the old Stadium), but you shouldn't put one on Yankee Stadium. It's not Yankee tradition and yes the fanbase would be against it to even think of it. I am aware they tried to get a dome. They have money sure, but that doesn't mean they are obligated to get one

I often hear comparisons from the old stadium and the new one. Other than the fact that legendary players played at the old stadium and that so many championship were won, the older stadium was nothing crazy to look at. From its location and aesthetic it was pretty blah and i get it the nostalgia factor plays a big role in opinions, but more times than not the only characteristic I hear in regards to the old stadium is “IT WAS LOUD” nothing more.

I can’t believe they tore down the House That Ruth Built. I mean if all the history that place held doesn’t make something a landmark worth saving then what does? That’s all I’m saying. Even if they took the old girl down to her bare bones they should’ve saved her and be playing on the same field as all the greats. Grateful to be a Cubbie Fan cause we’ll have Wrigley for generations to come.

The original site is now Heritage Field, so at least it got *some* preservation.
And the new one has a history section/ museum .
But the old one was falling apart (many think the fallen concrete incident in 1998 accelerated the need for a new one). Not to mention it was very outdated in the end and crammed (especially the bathrooms).
I also think the structure in Yankee Stadium was different than Wrigley and Fenway

    • @excalipoor

the old one was really bad at the tail end. It was really beat up. It didn't built like fenway or Wrigley field. Everyone loves the concourse for the new one. I did a lot of standing in the ground level to watch the game with others. Can't do that with the old one.

The stadium isn't the problem. The crowd is. You either deal with rude, aggressive, hardcore fans that don't make you feel welcome at all. Or tourists. Or actual New Yorkers who just go to impress their boss or their girlfriend, even though they know nothing about the sport. CitiField please.

Bro keeps trying to say people only dislike it because we hate the Yankees, I live in the area and I’m a Mets fan to be honest, but most of my friends and family that are Yankees fans agree that it’s really not that good, parts of the stadium seem like your in a subway, and no not the parts where you can literally see the trains (kind of like that kind of hate it). A lot of the stadium just has nothing to it besides pipes and concrete.

Why tear down old Yankee Stadium? I'll tell you why. The most evil owner in all of sports history,
    George Von Steingrabber.
The Roman Coliseum still stands for over 2,000 years. "The House That Ruth Built" for less than a hundred. The history not only with the Yankees but the N.Y Giants.
Also great Heavyweight Championship fights with Joe Lewis & Rocky Marciano.
    Makes sense doesn't it?
Let's demolish a stadium that held close to 70,000 & build a baby ballpark that holds only 47,000.
All in a city that has 9 million. Do all this just so his rich friends could have luxury boxes. The destroyer of baseball got his way. Funny, never heard a peep from Yankee fans when the wrecking ball arrived.
